Aborted Drops Off The Goregrowler's Ball 2011

Belgium's ABORTED had to cancel their appearance at Goregrowler's Ball 2011 festival. They opted to take a European tour that travels through the dates of the festival, and could not have performed at the fest as a result. Instead, Aborted will be part of the Decimation of Europe Tour with Decapitated, Decrepit Birth and more.

Aborted released this statement regarding their cancellation of The Goregrowler's Ball appearance:

"We are terribly sorry to have to cancel our appearance to the GGB this year, we were very excited to finally get back to the US since our last US appearance was back in 2008 with Carcass and Suffocation, alas we have been presented a tour offer in europe which we could not turn down. We are really sad to not be playing this festival, but we hope to see all our fans soon! This said I am sure the GGB guys will find a worthy replacement and we promise we will be over there sooner than you think in 2012 in support of our upcoming album GLOBAL FLATLINE! Destroy everything, Kill everyone!"

Replacing Aborted will be Brutal Truth, who will now headline on Saturday, November 19th.

Castrofate Announces New Album Details

New York old-school thrash metal band Castrofate will release their fourth album, "Systematic Suicide," on October 2, 2011 via Cataclysmic Metal Records. As with 2009's "iHuman," "Systematic Suicide" was also produced by the same production team of Dan Castro, Vin Cin, & Ryan Parks with Vin Cin engineering, and the album also features once again cover art by Eliran Kantor (Testament) who also did the cover of 2009's "iHuman."

The same line-up from 2008's "Cataclysmic Insanity" & 2009's "iHuman," which consists of Dan Castro performing everything except the drums, and Dmitriy Shnaydman on the drums, is once again the line-up of "Systematic Suicide," only this time there are no additional guest guitar solos. 7 out of 12 of the new songs are streaming at the top of the player on the band's Myspace page.

The band is now taking pre-orders via Paypal ID castrofate@aol.com.

Just For Fun

A Tribute To "Pussy"

It was two years ago today that Rammstein created a stir with their music video for the single "Pussy", off the album "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da." Between the song's name, lyrics, and explicit music video, the video instantly went viral and made for Metalunderground.com's most read article ever in just a few months (now topping 400,000 views), thanks to the thousands of Internet searches turning up our article as a result. Imagine that: searches for "pussy" would trump other metal-related searches on the 'net. Gasp!

The band debuted the uncensored version of the video on a porn site and had multiple versions of the video banned from YouTube before finally blurring entire scenes containing the offensive images beyond recognition.

As a viral hit and with such a title and subject, as well as being both funny and explicit at the same time, the song has predictably become one to cover (or remix) just to prove a band of any sort to be edgy or maybe in some perverse sense of fun. Let's take a look at a few such covers and parodies:

Just last month Daveyboyz (also known for Heavy Metal Farmer) released a video parody of Rammstein's "Pussy" music video, entitled "Cookie." Despite the change, you can't help but think of the original lyrics when watching this disturbing parody:

ProgPower USA XII: Day One

Friday began early in the day for the ProgPower crowd when US-based Creation’s End took the stage at around 2:40. Italian Guitarist Marco Sfogli got the crowd warmed up with some serious movement on his fretboard. Rhythm guitarist Rudy Albert and bassist Joe Black pulled on their best game faces for the early crowd. Vocalist Mike DiMeo had a nice stage presence and belted it out there. The set was a bit short, but as an opener, it had to be. Nevertheless, the band opened the day well without a hitch.

After the band wrapped its set, the reunited US band Sanctuary, featuring Warrell Dane and Jim Sheppard from Nevermore, was immediately in the lobby for a signing. Unfortunately, the band schedule and the signing schedule (both published in the very cool ProgPower program book given to attendees) did not see eye to eye. The bands reached a half-hour to forty-five minutes behind schedule throughout the day, so the signing sessions often took place during a band’s set. This made for tough decisions like: “Do I stay through the end of Voyager’s set or do I go get Ihsahn’s autograph?”

Darkwater had taken the stage shortly after. The Swedish group was well-received and performed their variety of progressive melodic metal to a crowd that obviously appreciated, judging by their reaction to Evergrey the night before. The band had an aesthetic that begged to be watched closely as the purple lights fell on them for certain songs. Just after, I met with Red Circuit’s keyboardist, Marcus Teske, for an interview in the adjacent club, Vinyl. For the ProgPower show, Vinyl was converted into a merchandise room with everything a progressive fan could want. I was to go broke a few hours later because of this. More...
