Taiwanese black metallers Chthonic has posted a 1-minute promo of the Judas Priest cover, "Painkiller" on YouTube. The cover was released as a new single, with bonus "Bloody Waves of Sorrow," on September 13, 2010, via Spinefarm Records UK.
The idea to record a cover has been discussed within the Chthonic ranks since the beginning of the year; the band considered songs from all of their favourite metal bands, the likes of Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, but once drummer Dani Wang had worked out the drum demo for "Painkiller," the decision to go with the Judas Priest classic was an easy one.
One-time Chthonic keyboardist Sandra Lee plus Hena player Su-nong are also involved in the recording, helping the core musicians to unleash the full weight of their Taiwanese metal power!

Metal Mind Productions has issued the following announcement about re-releasing the debut album from Tapping the Vein:
"There’s not really that many bands around that you could call original. Sure, once in a while you encounter something that sounds incredibly fresh but for most of the times, it’s just the same ideas played over and over again. But then you stumble upon a band like Tapping The Vein. At first you think to yourself: 'I’ve heard it all before' but after a while you realize that you’re listening to something completely new. While Tapping The Vein indeed have some very clear inspirations, the music found on their debut album 'The Damage' has a truly significant character. And this is something that not many bands can brag about…
"This exclusive reissue of their stellar debut 'The Damage' brings back one of the most intriguing rock albums of the new millennium. The new digipak edition of 'The Damage' is limited to 2000 copies. Remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc. Code For Silence has checked in with the following update about the band's activity:
"Greetings from CFS Music Camp, debut album D.M.O.N. is now available at Spotify and iTunes and where else... Don't actually even know but i was told it's on sale at several mp3 stores around the world. So chop-chop go and buy it, listen it, enjoy it, borrow it, trade it or even steal it if you have to but only thing that matters is that you share the musical experience with all of your friends who are not familiar with CFS yet.
"But now boyz n' gals and everything between, it's time to crack the curtain a bit to let ya know what's happening in a masculine (yeah right) maternity of CFS. We've produced a shitload of demo versions of songs that will form a successor for D.M.O.N. I'll guess it's something like 13 or 14 songs but naturally we wanna create a solid entity. But it's totally possible that every single song will end up on album, we'll see. And oh yeah, we've planned to hit the studio by the end of the year! New songs represent something old and something new.
"There's of course some fist-to-the-face attitude stuff, some gloomy but yet beautiful atmospheres, quite progressive elements, a lot of groove and something that...don't know how to describe it but the particular track I'm talking 'bout will include an featured musician with instrument we haven't used before in our songs. But no, I don't mean maracas. Basically I would say that we've added more everything to our songs and tried to extend our sound. More...
The organizers of Wacken Open Air have issued the following announcement about Mayhem appearing at the 2011 edition of the festival:
"It's getting dark at Wacken. There are only few bands existing which are entwined around by such lots of rumors like this band. After their last bloody show at Wacken 2004, Norwegian black metal icon Mayhem returns to Wacken. The band is fronted again by former vocalist Atilla Csihar who replaced Maniac in the end of 2004. This will be their only festival show in 2011."
Norway's Virus has issued the following announcement about streaming another unmastered sample online from the band's upcoming album:
"The album is approaching status finito, and as promised, here's another preview for you die-hards. We won't allow you to get tired of the material, so we'll remove the title-track that has been up for awhile, and replace it with one of the most radical songs on the album; Chromium Sun.
"It might be hard to chew. The harmonies might hurt, and the rythms might send you into an involuntary twitching dance, like Parkinsons. Pay attention to the lyrics. Written by Joe Amniotik. BTW: This song is very un-mastered. It'll really come to life after mastering, but it's enjoyable anyway. Cheers! And thanks for all feedback, critics and praisers alike."

Washington melodic death metal band Shaded Enmity has issued the following update regarding the departure of bassist Zach Palmer:
"For the past 9 months or so, Zach has been kind enough to lend his talents to Shaded Enmity for both our new album recording, and for several live shows. We all knew Zach had commitments prior to joining our band, and he did great session work for us, but at this point in time, we have all decided mutually to go our separate ways as we are seeking someone who can be a permanent member to our lineup. We wish Zach the best with Skelator and his future endeavors.
That being said, if you believe you fit the following requirements, drop me an email at email@example.com"
"www.myspace.com/shadedenmity for song samples or check us out on YouTube."
"1. Must have your own gear.

8. We play in E standard, and most of our songs require the use of a 5 string as you will be supplying a lot of the low notes."
In a recent interview with Tomb Of The Opinionated, Obituary singer John Tardy confirmed the rumour that the band has parted ways with bass player Frank Watkins, who has been performing with the latest incarnation of Gorgoroth.
Tardy states: "Frank is no longer in the band and Terry Butler (Six Feet Under) will be doing all the shows that he can with us. Right now we are happy with that and if Terry’s schedule does not allow him to play with us we can always lean on Stever DiGiorgio (Sadus) or Kenny Andrews."
He also gave an update on the band's next studio album, which will be the first to be recorded without Watkins since 1989's, "Slowly We Rot.": "We have been doing so much traveling that is has been hard to get much done but, we have managed to get some songs started. We now have some time set aside to get some writing done so we will know more in the next couple of months. We are in no hurry and are going to take our time and enjoy the writing and recording process!"

Bazillion Points Publishing has announced details regarding its forthcoming release of Jeff Wagner's progressive metal book, titled "Mean Deviation." "Mean Deviation" includes a forward written by progressive rock mastermind and founder of Porcupine Tree Steven Wilson.
Author Jeff Wagner commented by saying:
"'Mean Deviation' highlights many impossibly scattered bands and movements that widened the scope of the heavy metal genre. To some, progressive metal starts with Dream Theater and ends with an interminable stream of bands that sound like Dream Theater. By my interpretation, the term ‘progressive metal’ allows for consideration of cosmic post-black metal band In the Woods, avant-garde metal surrealists Thought Industry, and those obscure purveyors of corrupted Swedish death metal, Carbonized-along with more obvious entries such as Fates Warning, Opeth, and, of course, Dream Theater."
