Lifeforce Records has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Finnish dark metal act Hanging Garden:
"Wait, another Finnish band on Lifeforce Records!? - Well, yeah... what should I say... it just came together, Hanging Garden could have been from any other part of the world, at the end it was the music that convinced me 300%!!
"I'm in touch with Jussi Hämäläinen (who's other band THE CHANT just recently released it's critically acclaimed Lifeforce Records debut 'A Healing Place') and Jussi forwarded me some rough mixes of their new tracks, which totally blew me away already... by the time he sent me the full album I was sold! It combines so many influences ranging from Cult Of Luna to Sisters Of Mercy, Sigur Ros to Dark Tranquillity in a such great way I simply couldn't resist!
"The idea of a band playing slow, doomy metal was born between singer Ari Nieminen and bassist Matti Reinola in 2004. Soon after, drummer Janne Jukarainen and guitarists Mikko Kolari and Saku Manninen join the band. After hard song writing and rehearsing, recordings of the first promo-CD start. The band was named Hanging Garden and the promo was finished just in time before Finnish Metal Expo in February 2006. One promo ended up in the hands of Sami from Spikefarm Records, and eventually Hanging Garden inked a deal with the label.
"In fall 2006, Hanging Garden traveled to northern Finland to record their debut album at the legendary Tico Tico Studios. Dutch death metal tribunal Grand Supreme Blood Court will release debut album, "Bow Down Before The Blood Court," via Century Media Records on November 12th in Europe and November 20th in North America.
The band has now revealed the album's cover artwork, which was created by Axel Hermann (Asphyx, Grave, etc.). GSBC's main songwriters are former Asphyx-axeman Eric Daniels and current Asphyx-bassist Alwin Zuur (who plays guitar in GSBC), whereas vocal duties are being handled by Martin van Drunen. The tribunal is rounded off by Bob Bagchus on drums and bassist Theo van Eekelen (Hail of Bullets). The new album was mixed by none other than Dan Swanö.
Grand Registrar Zuur adds: "Finally, the Blood Court has become a real and totally devastating band! While some might sneer at the similarities with the Asphyx ine-up, as soon as you listen to this beast of an album you will realize that with Eric and me on guitar, GSBC musically takes another route and offers a different kind of riffing and some sick yet harmonic, epic pieces. No matter if you're into Asphyx or any of the other bands related to the Blood Court, we invested enough blood, spirit and energy into this record to know that it will not disappoint anyone into straight-forward, face-melting death metal. No compromises."
The tribunal is:
Grand Magistrate Bagchus -- firing squad commander and coffin drummings
Grand Judge Daniels -- axe wielding beheader guitar
Grand Prosecutor van Drunen -- verdicts, sentences and tormented howls
Grand Registrar Zuur -- blood runes and flesh-saw guitar
Grand Executioner van Eekelen -- torture instruments and slaying bass More...
Prophecy Productions is proud to present the first video clip of Dordeduh for the song "Dojana," taken from the band's debut album "Dar De Duh," due out out November 13th in North America. The song was visualized by the musicians and director Costin Chioreanu inimitably, and the end result can be viewed below. The band also comments:
"Finally, the first video of Dordeduh is out. For the setting, we chose an old, quite unknown Dacian fortress, placed deep into the Apuseni mountains. The place is surrounded by an unusual forest, called locally 'the forest without a face'. This place was the subject of many mysterious stories of people disappearing into the forest without a trace. Fortunately, during the shootings, nothing unusual happened. We are very happy with the final result, and Costin Chioreanu did a great job. Enough describing - we let you to enjoy it!"

A kind of metalhead Mecca, the ProgPower USA festival at Center Stage in Atlanta is back in session for its 13th year today and tomorrow. In the kickoff of their US tour, Nightwish and Kamelot tag-teamed for two nights before the official ProgPower festivities got going. To add to the enormity of the occasion, Jon Oliva of the mighty Savatage gave a songwriting workshop before the show in the smaller venue next to Center Stage. For attendees, this was going to be a night to remember, as well as a completely sold-out show.
Backstage before the show, I caught up with Nightwish bassist Marco Hietala for an interview. We ended up rehashing Nightwish's legendary USA debut at ProgPower 4 back in 2003, along with talking about new plans for his other band, Tarot, and the "Imaginaerum" movie. Tonight, Nightwish was going to be doing a special 2nd show with a few songs that were different from the night before. Many fans had come out for both nights, and it was soon clear to them that whatever sound and jet-lag issues were grating on the performance last night were taken care of for this second night.
