This was a mutual decision and there are no hard feelings towards each other. We will still continue to work with Norm's graphic design company, NME Studios. We wish you all the best with your future endeavors Norm; much love and respect. So now the drummer search begins! We're looking for someone preferably with touring experience, but if not, that's fine. We have quite a bit of dates coming up in October and November through out North America and Europe, so we're looking for someone that can really nail these songs quick and hit the road."

The following statement was posted here on the official Mike Portnoy forum and website discussing Mike Portnoy's recent departure from Dream Theater, the band he founded.
The statement reads as follows:
"Before I write this, understand that this is MY statement. Mike might kill me for speaking up, but I just can't sit by quietly. I guess I'm like Mike in that way. PLEASE stop reading between the lines with this whole situation. There is no hidden meaning in all of this (is there ever with Mike? The guy is an open book with his fans!!). Everything Mike said in his interview with Eddie Trunk, in his press release or otherwise is everything he has been saying to me for the past year, at least. He LOVES the other (DT) guys and their families. They have grown up together, married women that were (and are) best friends, have raised their kids as best friends. They are family. This was not an easy decision for him as a drummer, founding band member (and band leader) or person.
"Let's put 25 years into perspective. I am 40. I met John and John when I was 15. How many friends do I still have that I have had to live AND work with for the past 25 years? Not a single one. I can't imagine looking at the same group of people for that many years and being able to come up with new, fun ideas (that will then be judged the world over). My friends and I get stuck on doing the same things on random weekend gatherings! Remember, this is strictly my perspective here...
"You'd think that being a rock star would be 100% fun 100% of the time. But I know that Mike works extremely hard and takes every bit of this experience to heart. You might think you know, but you have no idea (to borrow a line from Behind the Music). It is a part of who he is as a person, it is definitely not just a job. He's been running at a pace (WITH DREAM THEATER) most people couldn't keep up for a few months, much less 25 years. He just wants a break. He wants to have the chance to play with other musicians and be reminded of how special this all is. He wants to have fun and not be in charge of every detail for a bit. (And for those of you thinking he should just let others take the reins in DT, all I'll say is that you have no idea what you are talking about.) The way I see it, it's not a matter of Mike not wanting to be in DT (Remember, he DOES want to be in DT... he NEVER wanted or planned to leave the band). Giving up Dream Theater must be like giving up a child for him. I know it's been horribly painful. But I am extremely proud of him for recognizing that he needs to be reinvigorated and for doing what he needs to do to make that happen. You know Mike. He does not do anything half-assed. He wants every drop of music that Dream Theater releases to be perfect and fulfilling for everyone. Right now, he is guaranteeing that he can't do that. Maybe (apparently) the other guys don't feel the same about this situation, I can't speak to that, but he knows that he needs a break to be able to bring the best of himself to the table. There is no alterier motive. He genuinely just needs a break. He needs a break that allows him to find new inspiration and have some down time. When he has done his other side projects, if you think he was not also working on DT stuff, you'd be incredibly mistaken. I guess I got a bit long-winded there... sorry, but it's torture to sit back and watch my brother getting ripped apart or criticized for making this incredibly INCREDIBLY hard choice. And for those of you who are supporting/understanding of his decision, I want you to know HOW MUCH it is appreciated."

Eveningstar.co.uk is reporting that vocalist Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth is currently among the top 10 nominees in a vote for people to identify Suffolk area icons:
When Suffolk residents were asked to identify their icons of the county, most people expected traditional favourites such as the Suffolk Punch, the Heritage Coast and Adnams and Greene King beers to feature prominently.
As expected, all of these have been put forward to the Suffolk Icons website, but also in the current top 10 is an extremely unlikely icon – the self-styled “crypt-crawling” frontman of “death metal” rock band, Cradle of Filth. According to Suffolk folk, the one-time Hadleigh-based rocker Mr Dani Filth is a true icon of the county.More...

Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. For my first article I’m going to be looking at three very distinct styles, but all artists that are on the verge of blowing up.
Nova Scotia, with its small population and many rural areas, might not be considered the hotbed of metal, but when you look into the underground you see a very different story. With all styles of metal being accepted and embraced, the underground is growing each and every late night.
The Worshyp currently consists of Marz Nova (vocals/guitar), Thor Rune (guitar), Mig Diablo (bass), and KK Devina (drums). It wasn’t always like this though. The heart and soul of the band founder Marz Nova had being playing in cover bands and I’m sure realized that the true rewards are from singing music from your soul, not the Top 40 Rock countdown. Marz being from a small town in Nova Scotia he knew he had to dump the tributes and move to a larger market to make his dreams come true. Hence moving to Toronto.
What it is today is a powerhouse band that blends very classic melodies, with very hard driven guitar riffs. With the new members on board Marz and the boys have almost completed their first full length CD and released their first single “Under Surveillance” to radio stations and ITunes. You can check out “Under Surveillance” and some other great songs on their MySpace page or Reverb Nation. More...

Rabbitsrecently finished recording for their Relapse debut album. Release date and additional album details will be announced shortly."
The band also commented on the signing: "We are putting the final grimy touches on our new record, ten unhinged punk-sludge-thrash nature-crushes-man anthems. We are thrilled that our first long-player will be unleashed by the mighty Relapse--our new, seemingly fearless label--so that we may forever damage the ears and psyches of people all over the world, just as we have done for the last six years to basement dwellers and bar flies all over Portland. We will not stop until we reach the very bottom."

Hard rock veterans Whitesnake has announced that they have parted ways with keyboard player Timothy Drury, who has decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career. A message from Drury reads as follows:
"For over seven years now I have been fortunate enough to travel the world, to play and sing my heart out and to share the stage with David Coverdale as a part of Whitesnake. During that time I have been inspired and filled with such a great sense of the beauty that the world has to offer and also with the joy that music can bring to an audience. More than ever, I see the value of what I can express as a composer and producer, photographer, songwriter, singer... as an artist. That is why I must now say my goodbyes to you all and take my leave to pursue some very important creative projects that have been brewing for some time now.
"For those of you who have gone to my sites and commented on my work as a visual artist and as a composer, I hope you have sensed how deliberate and passionate I am about interpreting what I see and feel. There are some great new opportunities for me to do that now and the time has come to focus on using my gifts to the fullest extent possible.
"Of course I would love to continue to experience the world with Whitesnake and I will miss DC and the guys and the venues and audiences terribly, but I think I would be remiss if I didn't follow my instincts and my heart at this moment. More...

Megadeth band assistant Rikki Cameron has checked in with the following recap of Megadeth's "American Carnage" and "Canadian Carnage" tours:
"And at long last, we finally get a little bit of rest! Canadian Carnage and now American Carnage has ended and Megadeth and their crew is taking a much deserved rest for a couple of weeks before we head back out for the Jagermeister Music Tour to kick your butts all over again. It feels like we've been going non-stop since we started touring in March, the very first of the Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary shows. And certainly since the return of our beloved David Ellefson.
"Thankfully, we were able to chronicle that first leg of the Rust In Peace tour by putting out a DVD- Megadeth Rust In Peace Live from the Hollywood Palladium show on March 31, 2010. The DVD and CD were released this week, so definitely make sure you pick it up! I had not seen any of the footage from the filming before this was released and after days of searching to buy it, I finally got my hands on a copy yesterday. Thank you Hot Topic for carrying it, Best Buy was all sold out!! I must say, those of you who have seen the backstage footage will know what I'm talking about, I am incredibly humbled and borderline speechless at the appreciation shown for my hard work by Mr. Mustaine. I love my job, I love what I do, I love the people I work for and with and all of their families. I'm truly blessed to have found a 'family' who not only takes me for what I am, but appreciates me for it and isn't afraid to say so. More...

Norway's Sworn has issued the following statement about the band's upcoming third full-length album:
"First of all, we want to thank all contest participants, winners will be contacted during September. Also check out our brand new myspace design! Regarding our third album, we're making a lot of progress. The song writing is pretty much finished, same goes for lyrics. Also the album title is set, but we will not reveal it at this point - so stay tuned for that!
"Some words about the material so far: Earlier there's been a mix between very melodic/atmospheric tracks and straight forward almost thrash-like tracks on our albums. We do this because we have a passion for both styles, and love to incorporate them into the Sworn sound.
"What we've done on this third album is to make each song represent our sound alot more, with both melodic and hard-hitting parts, while still being unique in themselves. This defines us alot more, and the preproductions so far sounds killer to say the least. Also, we're happy to announce that Sworn is now endorsed by Engl Amps!"
Canada's Agassiz, which was formerly known as Kuldakaust, has issued the following update about new live shows and recording a new album:
"Hello, we are Agassiz. A metal band that infuses 90's black metal with heavy doom. We were once known as Kuldakaust but later through line up changes and a more defined sound we changed our name to Agassiz which resembles where we are from as well as can be tied in with out music.
"We are currently playing a show this upcoming Tuesday at the zoo with Split Lip Grin, We Found The Body and Silence for the Fallen. We also have a show coming up in Brandon on Oct. 30th. It should be a great show. More details will be announced later.
"Now recording. We've decided to push recording our full length back until October. The reasoning is so that we can really take the time to fix all the bugs, be prepared and know what we want to do when we record. In the end we'll have great quality songs which will make our album worth getting. More...

Maryland's Tribunal has checked in with the following update recording new material and recruiting a new lead vocalist:
"Hello again brothers and sisters of metal, time for another update from Tribunal. Since the amount of mail regarding what the band was up to was overwhelming, we decided to post some of the new tracks without the vocals. A lead vocalist HAS been chosen and will be laying his tracks to the songs very, very soon. In a few weeks we will be making the formal announcement to whom the lead vocalist is as well as our new drummer. Several record labels have already been aggressively pursuing Tribunal so once this recording is complete we are very confident it will be picked up and released by one of the labels.
"As well as the 10 songs on the CD we recorded some covers songs as well... one of which we will post on the page in an instrumental version within the next few weeks. Once the entire recording sessions are totally wrapped up and the drummer has been chosen, the band will enter the rehearsal studio for preparation to tour in support of the release which will be titled 'Judgment.' Several showcase shows will be booked, with any remaining local shows being in support of larger national acts only or festivals.... We will post another update prior to making the announcement of the new members. Thanks for the support and Stay Metal!"
Tomasz “Orion” Wroblewski is best known as the bassist for extreme metal icons Behemoth. He is also the leader of symphonic black metal band Vesania, but his most unique side-project is the stoner/black n’ roll Black River. Fans of Orion’s other projects will definitely be surprised by how much groove the music has, and he seems to fit in just as well with this as he does with the more rambunctious Behemoth. Also featuring drummer Dariusz "Daray" Brzozowski of Dimmu Borgir and Vader fame, the band has just released their second album, “Black'n'Roll,” which is also the first look many in the U.S will get of the band. I recently had the chance to speak to Orion about Black River's new album, the current situation with Nergal, and what the future holds for Orion while he plays the waiting game with both Black River and Behemoth. A Perfect Circle has returned from their self-imposed hiatus. The band, led by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer) and Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide), will embark on a five-city tour this fall (dates and ticket on-sale information will be announced shortly).
Shows in Phoenix (Marquee Theatre), Los Angeles (Avalon), Seattle (Showbox at The Market) and San Francisco (The Fillmore) will be three-night stops with each night featuring one of A Perfect Circle’s three albums in its entirety (Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step and eMOTIVe). Howerdel went on to form Ashes Divide who released their debut album, Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright, in 2008.
