The Path Less Traveled Records will release "Tomb of Feathers," the debut album from crusty bay area blackened noise doomsters Abstracter September 18th on digital format. The CD and vinyl versions will be released in early 2013, while a cassette tape version of the album will be available for sale in fall of 2012 through the band's own imprint Anti-Everything Laboratories.
Consisting of three tracks spanning 40 minutes, "Tomb of Feathers" was entirely self-produced and self-funded by the band and was recorded live in three days (one track per day), directly to 22-track, 2-inch analog tape mounted on 30-minute reels processed by a mid-80's Akai tape recorder, by sound engineer Josh Garcia (Depeche Mode, Melvins, Dwarves).
The recordings were then passed on to Greg Wilkinson at Hearhammer Studios for mixing, and were then shipped to Philadelphia to be mastered by James Plotkin (Isis, Sunn O))), Old, Khanate, etc.). Stream all three tracks over at Bandcamp or below in the widget.
For the first time in years, the debut from Italian tech-minded brutalists Septycal Gorge, "Growing Seeds of Decay," is being made available worldwide. The entire tracklisting follows below.

3. Abominated Hierarchy
4. Waltz of Desperation
5. Ultima Lucida Follia

German progressive death metal titans Obscura have announced their first ever Latin American appearance this December in Mexico City. This special one-off show will take place on December 8th at Circo Volador with Portugal’s Moonspell. Guitarist/Vocalist Steffen Kummerer commented on the upcoming appearance:
"We are proud to announce our very first show in Mexico City after almost 10 years of playing Death Metal! This is the first show in Latin America for Obscura and our fan base in Mexico is just incredible. Since there were rumors spread about this single show we receive every day more and more messages from fans if this is going to be true. We can confirm the concert with Portugal's finest, Moonspell, and make this a special show for everyone. We are looking forward to playing for you!"
Additionally, Obscura is about to celebrate the band's 10th anniversary with a string of shows in Germany. More details will be announced shortly. The band is also currently streaming 2011’s "Omnivium" (reviewed here) in the bandcamp player below. More...
Rogue Records America is very proud to announce the label has inked a deal with The Korea, with releases to be distributed through Century Media Distro.
"I'm a huge fan of The Korea so when they agreed to join our growing family it was like getting Christmas early," said label owner Dean Martinetti. "We couldn't be happier with how fast the label is growing and having another powerhouse band like this in the lineup just shows how serious we are about our metal."
The Korea was formed in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, in 2003 and in the summer of 2011 the band entered the studio to record third long player "The Chariots Of The Gods." The Korea commented on the new collaboration:
"We are very glad for our creative union with Rogue Records America! It is a great honor and a big step for us and we hope that our music will be greatly appreciated outside of our country! We would like to thank the guys from Rogue Records America for letting us join their big family! We hope that our work together will be successful and we can bring to our fans many awesome songs! Thank you for support and see you at the concerts, friends!"
The first album out the gate is a re-issue Digipack for "Chariots of the Gods," which will be offered with a free t-shirt. The album will also be sold digitally through the label's bandcamp page with a free digital booklet. The next album "Saturnus" is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2013.
Sylencer is the brainchild of vocalist/lead guitarist Markus Johansson, who spent almost six years working on the band’s debut album, “A Lethal Dose Of Truth.” Some of that time was spent gathering an enormous list of guest appearances, including the likes of Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory), and Sean Reinert (Cynic, Death). All together, there are over a dozen recognizable musicians who guest throughout the 16 songs on “A Lethal Dose Of Truth.”
However, there’s much more to the album than just stacked-up guest spots. The music goes everywhere from power metal to progressive metal, not sticking to one style for a long period. Though the names will bring in interest, the music will keep people around after the names are mentioned. I had the opportunity to speak to Johansson about getting all these noteworthy musicians involved, and translating this album to a live setting. More...
In the second of eight installments, Enslaved bassist/vocalist/lyricist Grutle Kjellson and rhythm guitarist/songwriter/lyricist Ivar Bjørnson offer song commentaries on their trademarked Norwegian strain of progressive extreme metal that will be unveiled with their twelfth studio album, "RIITIIR." The album is due out in Europe on September 28th and in North America on October 9th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Kjellson comments on “Death In The Eyes Of Dawn:"
“It is impossible for a band like ENSLAVED not to be inspired by Bathory! And we somehow always end up paying a little tribute to Quorthon on each album. Bathory is our musical roots, maybe more than any other band. On Axioma Ethica Odini, the song ‘Singular’ became ‘the Bathory song,’ and this time it was ‘Death In The Eyes Of Dawn’ that got that honor! The song changed a whole lot from the first sketches, partly because of mine and Herbrand’s vocal arrangements and partly because of co-producer Iver Sandøy´s crazy idea that the second theme in the song sounded very Beatles-like and thus we had to develop that theme in a more Beatles-like direction! We did so, and ended up sounding nothing like the Beatles whatsoever! Maybe the bass guitar does, but I doubt that Macca [McCartney] ever sounded like I do vocally… not even on the demos for Magical Mystery Tour. The lyrics are inspired by the idea of self-destruction and the final judgment (Ragnarok in the Norse Mythology). You can find in several of the different mythologies around the globe: the mutual fear of the ‘dark’ forces in cosmos.” More...

Taste the blood of track one, “Conjuring The Fire Plagues,” at the group’s official bandcamp page.
When asked to talk about the upcoming new material, the band said in a collective statement: “We wish not to elaborate too much and allow the music that we will be putting out in the near future to do the talking."

In regards to this upcoming trek, the band comments: "We're beyond excited to hit the road in support of our EP and recent signing to Century Media. "Hailing from the small town of Plaistow, New Hampshire, Vattnet Viskar is anything but small. Formed in the fall of 2010, the band has quickly risen amongst the ranks of US black metal acts with their self-titled EP (available at their Bandcamp page) that has been met with praise from both fans and the press alike.
"Not content to keep their blackened-doom alchemy confined to the studio, however, they back it up with a thundering live performance. To witness Vattnet Viskar's live show for yourself, check the tour dates below to see if they'll be coming to a city near you (more tour dates to come!)."

Portuguese death metal denizens Undersave recently released their debut full-length "Now...Submit Your Flesh To The Master's Imagination" over on Bandcamp. Stream all seven songs from the album below. The album was recorded with Paulo Vieira at Brugo Sound Studios and Moshpit Studios during the end of 2011. The cover art on it was by André Coelho and it was released worldwide by War Producitions. Solid State Records is excited to announce the latest addition to its roster of artists: Pennsylvania metallers My Heart To Fear, which is wasting no time in announcing the November 20th release of debut EP, "Lost Between Brilliance and Insanity." Solid State Records commented:
"The EP follows up several DIY releases that showcased the band’s penchant for technical riffs, swaggering vocals and sky-high choruses, elements that helped them build the fervent fanbase that supports them today.
"The Williamsport, PA-based act hails from the same geographic region and musical circles that spawned a number of metalcore successes in recent years - most notably genre giants August Burns Red, in addition to the likes of Texas In July (Equal Vision) and This Or The Apocalypse (eOne Entertainment). While a less confident band may look to steal a page or two out of those artists’ playbooks, My Heart To Fear are intent on forging their own sound."
“When we write music we don't stick to any one formula,” explains vocalist Trevor Pool. “We don't write to please a certain group of people or to fit into specific genres. Nor do we sit down with a preconceived idea of what a song should or should not sound like. Instead we allow the music itself to reveal subconscious and spiritual paths. Rather than deriving inspiration solely from music, we find influence in the world around us and aim to transpose these non-musical entities into the musical aspects of a song.”
“Signing with Solid State is a huge step for us,” says Pool. “It is almost surreal to look back at all of the literal blood, sweat, and tears of our journey and to wonder what we would have thought at each phase if we could have seen, just for a moment, where we are now. We love the family-centered mentality of the Solid State staff and artists and hope to strengthen the family in whatever way possible!”
“We want to encourage everyone to not just shoot for their dreams, but to fight relentlessly for them,” Pool goes on to say. “We could not have made it this far in our journey without the endless support of those around us.”
Heavy metal dark horse Thy Will Be Done will be releasing a new 6-song EP entitled "Temple" on September 25th. Today Absolute Punk has premiered a new song from "Temple." The track "The Great Rebuilding"

Housecore Records thrashers Warbeast are set to head out on tour with Down next week. The band will join the U.S. tour on September 18th in its hometown of Fort Worth, TX and will travel with Down and label mates haarp, along with a few shows with special guests Pentagram and Saint Vitus and othersm until October 2nd in Charlotte, NC.
The band is also pleased to announce upcoming European tour dates with Down. The group will then continue the tour in November with several stops in Germany. Down vocalist Philip Anselmo had some words to add about bringing Warbeast on the road.
“I am extremely pleased we (Down) are bringing the band Warbeast with us to Europe. They are what I'd call 'pure' thrash metal, in a classic Dallas/Ft. Worth style,” states Anselmo. “These guys are tailor made for our brothers and sisters across the pond, and I expect them to fucking kick some almighty ass, and gain a shitload of new fans.”
“This has been a goal for each one of us from our earliest bands and from the inception Warbeast,” states Warbeast vocalist Bruce Corbitt. “Here in the USA, many of us are envious of the European metal scene. So going on a European Tour with our bro's in DOWN is even better than a dream-come-true for us. It honestly feels unreal and surreal that this is actually going to happen. Special thanks to our label Houscecore Records for believing in us in the first place!” More...

Al Mu'min (guitars) states: “Our debut album is an amalgamation of many influences across the spectrum and lyrically addresses many of the socioeconomic and political issues in our society today. We hope it will open doors for listeners and broaden their musical horizons as well as spark an interest in areas that dictate our lives, but are swept under the rug to maintain the status quo and keep the populace aloof to the sick capitalist venture of the big money cartels.
"We feel very fortunate to be in this position and wish to use this opportunity to spread the word on social change via the application of the scientific method for the betterment of humankind. There IS an alternative to the un-sane society we live in and it is our duty to this planet and all its inhabitants to awaken the sleepers. We can no longer ignore the writings on the wall. The time for change is now.” More...

Aaron Turner of Hydra Head Records has issued the following announcement about deciding to call it a day:
"Hydra Head Records has never been a smooth-running operation. We've spent the majority of our existence excitedly scrambling from one thing to the next, taking on more than we could ever possibly hope to achieve, and never quite finding solid footing in the midst of our self-induced whirlwind of chaos. Though not every second of doing this label has been enjoyable, it has been a very rewarding and meaningful project for me, and I hope for many of the other lives to which it has been directly connected. The fact that it has lasted close to two decades at this point is astonishing, and much has changed during that time - the lives of those directly involved with running the label, the bands and artists we've worked with, and the nature of the music industry itself. Though many of these changes have been positive, or at least illuminating, the impact of our history and current industry circumstances are culminating into a slow and somewhat painful death for the label. It certainly isn't an entirely unforeseen event, but we didn't think it would come quite so abruptly, or (perhaps naively) ever.
"The decision to pull the plug has not been an easy one, and in some ways is a not a choice at all. The simple fact of the matter is we've been running on empty for a while now and cannot afford to keep our doors open for much longer. Years of imbalance between creative ideals and financial realities, personal problems amongst the label operators, an unwillingness to compromise our aesthetic standards, a tendency towards releasing challenging (i.e. unmarketable) artists, and the steady decline of the music industry in general, are amongst the chief reasons for our inability to continue. It is a harsh but undeniable reality, and one which we are attempting to confront with as much integrity and grace as is afforded by the circumstances. More...
Dutch death metal mongers Centurian are finishing their new album entitled "Contra Rationem," which is set for a Winter release on Listenable Records. Centurian's Rob Oorthuis comments:
"'Contra Rationem' is an adversive record in the broadest sense of the word. It lacks all the ethics of contemporary productions. Leaving only the dynamic range of decay and rats exploring your skeleton. Through the rattle of bones...One might even hear flesh on instruments.
"We keep our death metal underproduced. All songs were nailed with conviction, without hesitation. In one take. Guided only by tongues of fire descending upon our heads. Uncorrected. As real as we are not."
For more info on Centurian, head over to the band's official Facebook profile here.

Brighton act From Afar has issued the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Mat Taylor:
"This week has definitely been one of the most tumultuous in terms of events for our band and we feel that we owe you the courtesy of keeping all of you in the loop because of the support you have shown us.
"A parting of ways has been decided between our drummer, Mat, and the rest of the band. It is with tremendous pain that we announce the departure of one of the founding members of the band, however this decision has been reached with no animosity as people's interest and priorities lay in different places.
"Mat will be playing with us for a last couple of shows at the end of this month and we wish him the absolute best in whatever direction he decides to go in. We are still working on new material and we will be conducting auditions to find a new drummer soon.

You can also hear the previously posted song "Shallows" at this location. The following press release was issued about the band and the upcoming EP:
"The Afterimage serves up progressive metal with hardcore attitude and the ‘Formless EP’ is an addictive taster of the exciting things to come from this young band. Intertwining guitar lines, tight riffage, scatty rhythms and big breakdowns lay the foundation for the guttural growls and technical leads taking centre stage, and combined with euphoric melodies and atmospheric synths, they create a ferocious and stimulating barrage of sound. Following upcoming tours in Canada, the band hopes to come to Europe mid-2013 to support their as yet unreleased debut album." More...

Sick Drummer Magazine has issued an update entitled "The Current Situation Surrounding The Death To All Tour" pertaining to online rumors and talk surrounding the tour. The Death To All tour was a five-city tour featuring a majority of DEATH’s musicians, as well as special guests to celebrate the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as to raise awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund – a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems. Here's what Sick Drummer had to say:
We have seen everything online regarding the Death To All Tour and the negative light being shined upon us. There are always two sides to every story and we assure you that we did nothing more than tried to the best of our abilities to put on a great tour for all involved. The tour was (from what we understand) one of the best shows the majority of those who attended have ever seen, but unfortunately the tour just did not make as much money as originally projected.
As for the talk of VIP merch orders not being filled or money from merch orders being held, we never held that money at all, as it was collected by a third party and all the post-tour orders have shipped. We personally made replies on the DTA facebook regarding the post-tour merch orders and when they all shipped, but are no longer able to post on that page as we have been removed, even though we created it. Regarding the CD/LP for the VIP package holders, if our recordings are never able to be released, we have another exclusive item to make it up to all of you.
The Atlanta and Dallas dates that were postponed were changed to cancelled so that general admission/VIP ticket holders could get their refunds if they wanted them, rather than wait for new dates. We always had the intent of making up those shows. If you have not received a VIP package refund for those dates, please send us a message and we will take care of you in short order.
We can assure you that everyone on the tour has received full or partial payment and we have entered into individual agreements to resolve all payments remaining. As far as Sweet Relief is concerned, they will receive the full amount that was originally pledged, based on the agreement we have in place with them. We are the only ones to walk away from this tour making nothing and that's fine with us. We lost money on the tour and to imply otherwise is simply false.
We have spent the last 4 years promoting music for next to nothing and know our true fans understand our dedication, loyalty and sacrifice. Seeing recent posts on facebook pages and other websites that have garnered physical threats of violence against us, is both shocking and sad. Were there mistakes made? yes, there are mistakes made on most tours. Do tours fail on a regular basis? yes. Was this a huge tour to put together? yes. Do we deserve to have violent threats made against us? absolutely not.
In the end we are still happy and honored to have been the ones to conceive, create and bring this tour to all the fans that were able to see it. We stand by all of our commitments/responsibilities and have never ventured from that ground.
To this, Eric Greif commented on Death's official Facebook page:
OK - I guess I shall now do a press release of my own on what actually happened with Sick Drummer Magazine and the DEATH TO ALL Tour (tomorrow). Stuff like the fact they never gave the charity Sweet Relief ONE PENNY, despite claiming that 20% of ticket sales & merch would go straight to Sweet Relief - they owe close to $30K and think a promise to pay somehow puts them in the clear! Or that they gave a bit of cash to the musicians and then handed them all bouncing checks in Orlando. Or that they never paid a nickel to us (the Schuldiners). Or that they haven't given ten cents to the booking agency. Oh, and they owe the crew money, too. They refused to relinquish their 'claim' on the name DEATH TO ALL. How mega pathetic - and all in Chuck's name. This has been an awful time.
