Virgin Steele's Frank Gilchriest has written in to clarify some comments he made in the past about "fake drummers" and the abuse of digital technologies, which apparently resulted in his quotes being used out of context and with the intended sarcasm lost. Here's what he has to say about it now:
I am writing this because I want to retract the statements that I made regarding the abuse of digital technology in a 2006 interview. Unfortunately, that was the one and only “interview” I’ve ever given for Virgin Steele and it misrepresents me. It’s been bothering me ever since it was first published. At the time, I was given the impression that I was having an informal conversation with a Virgin Steele fan club. I was not made aware that it was a formal interview intended for world wide distribution. I had no intention of “slamming fake drummers.” I was slamming the use of technology to misrepresent an individuals true abilities on any instrument. After years of seeing this “interview” pop up on the internet, I decided to set the record straight for anyone who cares.
First of all, I have no problem with digital technology or drum triggers. In fact, I occasionally use triggers myself. Many of my favorite drummers use them as well. Secondly, around that time I was being accused by some of our fans of programming and not actually playing my drum parts in the studio. When given the chance, I responded sarcastically and provocatively to those accusations to have some fun and to clear up the confusion. I was unaware that my words would wind up plastered all over the internet. I would have never granted permission for that if I had any control over it. I’ve asked our manager to remove my remarks from the official Virgin Steele website many times because it misrepresents my thoughts.
I want to apologize if any of the remarks I made in a sarcastic and informal context offended anyone especially my fellow drummers. I am a huge fan of many incredible drummers in Metal who record using digital technology and triggers. Many of whose skill levels far exceed my own.
I never do interviews for Virgin Steele. I regret that what I thought was an informal conversation I might have over a beer was taken out of context and that my good natured sarcasm was misrepresented. But I guess “slamming fake drummers” makes a good headline.

"Hey everyone, We just wanted to give you a quick update on what is going on with us, as well as new things that you guys can be excited about with a lot more in store shortly down the road. We are currently recording an updated EP with Neil Engle (Dance Gavin Dance, Alesana, Johnny Craig, American Me, Emarosa, Between The Buried And Me) and will be releasing it in the next month. When we release it, everything will be updated on the Myspace with a brand new layout by PhillM and a sick photoshoot from Darren Gilden. Recording the EP has been amazing so far, we are recording drums with a few kits that Geoff (Truth Drums) was able to provide and the tones are incredible. Drums are all being tracked at Rain City Records Studios and sound amazing so far. The updated release will feature 2 songs that you guys are familiar with (A Crusade For The Broken and Forgotten) that will be revamped and more intense. We have been doing pre-production for the last 5 months and we are happy with the results of more polished instrumental, burly harmonies and a lot more thought and method put into the vocal placement and production. We will also be releasing two new songs that we are incredibly excited to show everyone that are going to bring a much more developed and intense side of Call Us Forgotten that you guys have yet to hear. We have been keeping it under wraps and feel like it is finally ready. We really appreciate all of your support and everyone helping us make Call Us Forgotten what it is, and helping us get to where we are and hopefully farther every day. Another exciting announcement is that Call Us Forgotten will be on RockBand by the in January or February so keep your eyes peeled for that. Download it when it comes out and tell everyone you know. We are also sponsored by Truth Custom Drums and will have our kit finished by December. I am sure Kory will update the Myspace with pictures for anyone who wants to take a look at it. We really appreciate your continued support and just being epic all the way around. If you guys have any questions, feel free to message us and we look forward to bringing you all the stuff mentioned in this blog and more. Keep checking in with us, this is just getting rolling."

Still, opening up the next chapter is really exciting because Dream Theater is full of ideas and energy about the future. Mike is the ultimate rock drummer and I know he will be successful at whatever he does. Meanwhile, Dream Theater is moving forward quickly and looking forward to creating some great new music. Everyone is asking me to comment on my thoughts about Mike Portnoy leaving Dream Theater and this huge change that has happened in all of our lives. "The very first show we played after recording Show Your Colors was a secret gig at Helsinki's On the Rocks. This show (played under the moniker Gold Johnson Big Band) was also the very first time we played live with Ari. So what better way to wrap up the touring for SYC than to return to that very same place for one more show before we start concentrating on putting the finishing touches to the new material! This gig on saturday, October 23rd is gonna be a special "an evening with" -party, as we're gonna fuck around with the setlist a lot, with unusual tunes from our back catalogue, as well as throwing in some odd cover songs. And who knows, you just might hear some new material for the very first time...
"So, mark your calendars: Amoral @ On the Rocks, Helsinki, saturday 23rd of October. See you there!"

The preachers of religious vomit shall be ridiculed and seen for what they are. And their lies shall be declared, for they are human excrement. All hail to our evil sickness......for we are the true and righteous. In blood..... Abalam."
The new song "My Curse is Your Curse" can be heard via the band's MySpace profile.
Portland, Oregon's DarkBlack has checked in with the following update about releasing a new EP and scheduling new tour dates:
"We'll never lay down our axes! Although we are currently drummer-less, we have a new 5-song EP coming out on Stormspell Records in mid-November. We're more than happy to be working with Iordan again seeing as though he goes out of his way to help the bands on his fine label. As well as being our finest material to date, it's also our greatest sounding output.
"Also, we are scheduled to tour the West Coast during the first week of December. Our old friend and original drummer, Carl will be joining us on drums once again! And we'll be playing with some great friends and bands along the way and we're stoked! More info on the way!"

New York's Wrath of the Weak has issued the following announcement about calling it quits after releasing the new album "Solace:"
"So as you might have noticed, I put a new track up from 'Solace.' yep, no more mysterious crap with the new album. But I make this transfer of bits with a heavy heart, because not only have I parted ways with Profound Lore, but 'Solace' will mark the end of Wrath of the Weak.
"At this point in time, I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed with actually releasing the album. I've toyed with the idea of just putting 'Solace' up for download for a few bucks, maybe with a nice little retrospective e-book. but at the same time, I figure if it'll be WOTW's last hurrah then I ought to see that it gets a nice physical release. it's a pretty fantastic album, and you don't get half-paragraph reviews in mainstream metal magazines by just putting your shit on Bandcamp. of course, it's not like the two paths are mutually exclusive, either. Nevertheless, keep your eyes peeled for whatever the hell I decide to do."
Tegucigalpa, Honduras based metal act Thy Providence has uploaded a new song sample titled "Shelter," which can be heard via the band's MySpace profile. Thy Providence also issued the following brief comment about the new track: "Hi friends.....thanks for visiting our MySpace and listening to our new sample ....Shelter! Thanks for your support!"
While most people will tell you that heavy metal was born in Great Britain, the same people will tell you that metal's home is in Germany. Germany has several large festivals dedicated to the genre, and has produced some of the best bands ever to pick up a guitar, including the Teutonic Thrash Scene, the only thrash metal movement than can be seen as a legitimate rival to the American scene. Most of the bands from the Teutonic thrash era will explain however, that they may never have found their sound, without the influence of a band from Solingen named Accept.
Accept was originally formed in 1968 by vocalist Udo Dirkschneider and guitarist Michael Wagener under the name Band X and performed at an amateur level for around eight years before being offered a spot on the Rock am Rhein bill. The performance at the festival was impressive and led to the band receiving a record deal shortly after. They released a self-titled album in 1979 but found little success with the record and as a result, guitarist Gerhard Wahl and drummer Frank Friedrich, being replaced by Stefan Kaufmann and Jörg Fischer respectively. Accept would find greater rewards with their next album, "I'm A Rebel" however, resulting in their first televised performance, with even more success coming the next year when the band released, "Breaker," which earned them a spot supporting Judas Priest on their "Point Of Entry" tour. The group began evolving their sound somewhat with their next album, "Restless And Willd," which would prove to have a profound effect on the speed metal genre. More...
APE will be releasing a new 3 song EP very soon, possibly within the month. The band will be releasing material they recorded back in April and May of this year. The band comments on recent events:
" has been more of a struggle for APE both internally and externally. While waiting months for some of the shit to settle, APE's two founding and only remaining members; Everett Mason and Galen Weir will release the bands new CD soon. A release date has not yet been set but it is expected the new CD will be pressed within a month. With no APE shows booked and with no timetable on when APE will take the stage again their have been rumblings about Galen and Everett embarking on side projects during the bands downtime."
