Nachtmystium Signs With Prophecy

Well, it finally happened. A label with an apparent total lack of pattern recognition has signed the reactivated Nachtmystium. Good luck Prophecy Productions -- you're going to need it. Prophecy issued this statement:

"The group has completed work on a new EP titled 'Resilient,' which was recorded at Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisconsin with engineer Chris Djuric. Additional recording sessions also occurred in Norway, Germany, and the band's home base of California before tracking from all contributing members was complete. 'Resilient' is slated for an early 2018 release date via Prophecy.

"Now sober, Judd continues to rebuild his life, both personally and professionally. As part of Nachtmystium joining the Prophecy Productions family of artists, the band will release future recordings through the label, who will also reissue much of the group's extensive back catalog. The new union supersedes the band's previously-announced deal with Earache Records."

Guitarist / vocalist Blake Judd comments: "Nachtmystium is extremely honored to be working with Prophecy Productions. It is a true pleasure for me to have been able to develop a personal relationship with the Prophecy label staff in Southern California. We are able to meet face-to-face regularly and work together at creating the best possible environment for Nachtmystium to begin to rebuild it's way back into the metal community after some very dark years and times that I have spent the majority of the last two years cleaning up the debris from.

"With past misdoings being corrected, new bridges built (and some old bridges rebuilt), and a few exclusive 2017 live performances under our belts, we feel as though the band has taken massive strides forward in recovering from its damaged state after my seven year run with severe heroin addiction. Those dark days are now behind me, the band and all whose lives we effect in one way or another. Onward and upward is the attitude and goal here, as Nachtmystium's ascension returns to its past form. Expect to hear a lot of new music and news from our camp in 2018." More...

At The Gates Announces New Guitarist, Album

Swedish melodic death metal group At The Gates is now in the final stages of preparation for an upcoming new album, following 2014’s comeback release, “At War With Reality” (reviewed here).

After the departure of founding guitarist Anders Björler in March, the group is not only ready to give a comprehensive update on the new album’s status, but can also now announce the newest addition to the At The Gates line-up. The Swedes comment:

“We have finally decided on a new guitar player, and we are ready to rip again! Actually he was our first choice, and we are happy to have him on board. Jonas Stålhammar has been a friend since the late eighties (Tomas used to tape trade with him back then!), and our paths have crossed many times during our careers.

"We were looking for someone who had the same reference points as we do, someone from the same path, so to say, who understand the greatness of both Autopsy and King Crimson. Of course it was essential that our new member could fill the shoes of Anders' performance-wise as well, but that was never an issue with Jonas. We were looking for someone with a deep understanding of what At The Gates are about, someone who could contribute creatively to the band.

"Jonas Stålhammar will be a full member from day one, and will play on the upcoming full length album, scheduled for recording in November 2017 – January 2018. We currently have 11 songs ready for said album, and are more inspired than perhaps ever before. You can expect a full-on At The Gates record with all the classic elements of the band. It is by far the most comprehensive album of the band to date, and will span all the way across the different elements of the band's sound. We are super-excited for 2018. It will be a good year for At The Gates, and our fans, for sure.”

Jonas Björler – Bass

Wolves In The Throne Room Posts New Song

We are now a mere weeks away from the release of the sixth Wolves In The Throne Room LP "Thrice Woven," and today another track from the 5-track collection has been revealed. “Mother Owl, Father Ocean” offers a lull from the album’s Cascadian black metal lean thanks to a lush wall of ambient noise and gauzy vocals from Norwegian singer Anna von Hausswolff.

The band comments: “Making music with Anna Von Hausswolff was a true gift. When I close my eyes and listen to Anna’s Voice I see the cold grey oceans of the north. It reminds me of the saltwater near my beloved home, and the cold oceans everywhere. Hail to the Icy Waters of this Earth! Hail Anna!”

Bloodway Posts New Video

Romania's Bloodway will release a new album on November 3rd, 2017 and today a new video comes online heralding that release. Check out "Midnight Scout" -- the first single from "A Fragile Riddle Crypting Clues" -- in the YouTube player below.

Bloodway cements an ongoing relationship with I, Voidhanger Records with this album, closing chapter of a trilogy that started in 2014 with the “Sunstone Voyager And The Clandestine Horizon” EP and continued the following year with the band's first full-length album, “Mapping The Moment With The Logic Of Dreams."

Led by artist Costin Chioreanu, Bloodway blends black metal, progressive metal, heavy rock and psychedelia in equal parts, forging a very peculiar style that revolves around deep emotions and dark inner visions.

“In this new chapter the same character from the previous albums returns to the world of humans, but with a different and larger perspective, animated by his experiences and mental transformations,” Chioreanu explains. “The world is nothing but a prison, with virtual walls risen from the controlled collective intellect, where all the prisoners are locked in by themselves. Everyone is free to go and live outside the so-called system, but nobody really wants to leave the
cells for the unknown.”

Traitors Debuts New Song "Lashing Out"

Florida outfit Traitors has officially reunited and debuts a new song entitled "Lashing Out". Comments vocalist Tyler Shelton of it: "Nothing has me more excited than to be making music for all of our incredible fans again. ‘Lashing Out’ represents the emotion of reclusion. It’s about the person that you become if you give yourself too much time to think, and you bottle up all of your hate because you’ve got too much pride.

These past six months have been nothing but thinking for me. Thinking of you guys was a bittersweet feeling. We will continue to create music and as always, it’s coming from the heart. I am eager to show you all what’s been stuck so deeply inside of my mind on our upcoming record. We will travel to very dark depths, unraveling what happens to the human mind when you do nothing with yourself every day. I hope to see you all at our upcoming tour dates."
