Orchestrated Misery Recordings has officially released "Disgust" from Indiana's Yellowtooth. "Disgust" is the product of a veteran trio of 40-somethings that have done time in Chronic Disorder, Sea Of Tranquility, Shades Of Grey, Skullview, Noctural Torment, and Invasion. To celebrate the album's release, The Obelisk is offering an exclusive stream of the song "Burning Daylight." Visit this location to listen.
As the new Cryptopsy album "Cryptopsy" drops today digitially, the Montreal band is streaming a couple more songs over at Bandcamp, "Two Pound Torch" and "Red Skinned Scapegoat." "Cryptopsy" will see a U.S. release on November 20th via Cryptopsy/Defen Society in association with Revolution Harmony/Candlelight Records. "Malediction," the new album from Norwegian black metallers Ragnarok will be released on the 30th of October in Europe and on the 6th of November in North America. Agonia Records commented:
"When it comes to Norwegian black metal, Ragnarok is one of the outstanding examples of what integrity and perseverance can bring to the genre. Since their inception at the beginning of 1994, the band has outlasted a multitude of variations and trends within the metal community that sought to influence the black metal genre. Eschewing avant-garde, nu-metal and even hardcore influences, the band remained true to themselves and to the traditions of Black Metal, whilst at the same time growing as writers and performers and refusing to become stale. Today, after 18 years in the business, Ragnarok still play black metal in the classical style, and continue to significantly increase their fan base, having become internationally recognised exponents of the genre with six albums and high profile festivals and tours under their belts. With their seventh full-length album the group deliver the best there is in terms of dark and aggressive music. Ragnarok does not need to re-invent the wheel – they just improve it.
"Malediction was recorded, mixed and mastered by Devo of Marduk's fame at Endarker Studios.
The new album will be available as jewelcase CD, digital download and limited vinyl with exclusive bonus track. First 100 copies will be available on a handnumbered brown vinyl. It can be pre-ordered at this location. More...
Lambgoat has posted "En Route to Meat Land," a song off Hivesmasher's new album, "Gutter Choir," which is due out October 23rd on Black Market Activities. Check out the track at this location.
Of "En Route to Meat Land," frontman Aaron Heinold says, "The song is about a past friend of ours who couldn't cope with the fact that he didn't get everything he wanted in life. Thusly he decided that everyone around him was the cause of his own inability to make the changes needed to find happiness. This resulted in constant threats of violence toward the people he knew and toward himself. The only instances where he actually fulfilled his threats were toward people who would never stand up to him. The song is about his expulsion from everything he knew and loved, simply because his cowardice consumed everything we loved about him."
From Massachusetts, Hivesmasher represents "a giant middle finger waved in the world's general direction," in the band's own words. The band was recently covered in the Boston edition of our "Unearthing the Metal Underground" column. The following press release was also issued about Hivesmasher: More...
Geoff Tate will release his sophomore solo album on November 6th, 2012 in North America. Titled "Kings & Thieves," this will be Tate's first solo album in more than a decade and his debut release for InsideOut Music since splitting with Queensrÿche.
"My goal with this record was to make a solid rock album," says Tate. "I wanted it to be an album that I could play live that would be both satisfying and fun, because, as a singer, you need to create a show that has a lot of dynamics to it and takes people on a ride." Turbid North possesses many facets that make them an attractive concert prospect. The group plays a style of extreme metal that is mellow and malevolent at the same time. They have released two albums, and now they’re backed by Unearth’s Trevor Phipps’ Ironclad Records. Turbid North’s story is of interest, too. Their members migrated from Alaska and England to north Texas. Still, the group expressed their concern about packing clubs in unknown markets.
I reassured bassist, Chris O’Toole that their performance at Head Hunters would be a success because the opening, local bands would help pack the house. This is exactly what happened. Patrons came out to see Turbid North, but the large bill of bands playing on two stages resulted in nearly filling the couple-hundred capacity inside Head Hunters. Bands such as Whore of Bethlehem and Vex feature members with a long history in the Austin metal scene, so they brought their share of fans. More...
