Frontman Tony Foresta of Richmond, VA's Municipal Waste has issued the following update about the band's activity:
"Greetings from Richmond! A lot of people have been asking what's been going on with the Waste lately and here is a quick update. Our summer at home is starting to come to an end and for a great summer ender our Best Friends Day gig was outstanding and probably was my favorite shows of the year. It was so much fun playing such a rowdy and energetic show in our hometown with so many amazing people and bands. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported it.
"We are really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things after having the majority of the summer off (which we haven't had in years). You can see our video for 'Acid Sentence' on youtube, myspace and the familiar places. It was produced by the great people at Fangoria. We have some really cool gigs coming up in the near future starting with us Headlining the Tankcrimes Brainsqueeze Fest in Oakland California on OCT 9th with our good friends Ghoul, Direct Control and Vitamin X and tons more. We haven't been out west in a long time and we are not sure when we will make it back so DONT MISS IT! Then back on the East Coast on Halloween weekend we are heading down to The Fest in Gainesville Florida. Halloween gigs are really special for us because we always dress up for the occasion and our costumes are usually pretty offensive/ridiculous and this year should be no exception. You have been warned. More...

"Darkside's line-up is completing, featuring the exiting talents of Bernd Brodträger on guitars, a young guitar hero from Darkside's hometown Wiener Neustadt, who is involved in projects such as Bled Dry, Pereat and Vienna´s melodic deathers Devanic, Janos Murri, extraordinary Italian guitar wizard from the ranks of Demolition and Priority and Andrea Rabuini on drums, formerly of Infernal Poetry and Ephel Duath. Vocals are being handled by Wolf. The band is still looking for a bass player, so everyone who feels in grade to fill the vacant spot and has a passion for progressive death metal can leave his mark under email@example.com under the moniker of 'deepdownmadness.' Drummer Antoine Guertin of Aeternam has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's bassist and keyboardist:
"It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the departure of Jonathan Lapointe and Samuel Dubois from Aeternam, both due to personal/private reasons. We would like to thank them for their great work with the band, and truly wish them success in their upcoming projects, be it in life or in music. It seemed obvious to us that only one guy could take the bass in replacement of Jonathan, and that's Southern Cross's bassist and long time friend Jean-François Boudreault. He has helped us on some occasions so it was only natural to bring him into the fold. We now officially welcome him in the band.
"We're gonna use backing tracks to replace keyboards, and we feel no need to fill the position with a 5th member : Aeternam is by now a 4 piece band. We know that some people might disagree with our choice, but we think it's just the way it has to be. Expect huge choirs and orchestra samples, you won't be disappointed. More...

DevilDriver guitarist Mike Spreitzer has checked in from the road with the following report:
"Today we have a day off and I'm sitting here on the bus in Lincoln, NE watching episode after episode of The Sopranos and drinking a whole lotta coffee. This show is terribly addicting......or is it the coffee that's addicting and I'm just using the show as an excuse? Some of the guys went to the movies to see Machete for the second time and tried to get me to go but I can't peal myself away from my computer, hence another one of my addictions.....my computer. The tour is coming to an end.
"Only one more week and we have 6 weeks off before we head back to Europe with 36 Crazyfists. Then we head back to Australia for the Soundwave Festival in late February, once again with 36 Crazyfists. Which is fine by me. Any tour with those guys ends up being about 40% more fun. Keep an eye out for more updates. There are a lot of exciting things coming up for DevilDriver in 2011. The new album is coming, we have a extensive touring schedule in the works, and there are a few other goodies that I can't disclose just yet. Enough said, The Sopranos is back on."
Guitarist Shaun Glass of Dirge Within has checked in with the following update about the band writing new material:
"We just wanted to give a brief update. We are knee deep in writing new music, and the tunes are coming together nice! It's to early to fully give more details - but hang tight! We will keep ya all posted as the creations come to life. So what does a band do when working on there new album do? Two shows? Why not?! Especially when offered two killer gigs First stop: Greenbay, Wi for Savage Fest October 8th-line up soon to be announced.
"Then its back to the Rave in Milwaukee,wi supporting the wicked Five Finger Death Punch. Note our first show ever was @ the Rave-so we feel it is our second home. Next... on Sept 14th Itunes will have a digital ep, which will have the rare track 'Eulogy.' Also a new re-recorded version of an old demo song 'Ties That Bind.' As always thanks to all our fans for being the best!"
Pennsylvania's Ethereal Collapse is currently gearing up to enter the studio to record an upcoming as-yet-untitled album. Newly joined drummer Kris Huber commented on the album:
"Well I've been filling in for them for years and I was always a big fan of the music the band made. So it was easy for me to get excited about doing new material with the group. And let me tell you, it's by far some of my favorite stuff yet. Not just because I'm involved, but I'm proud of how the band has grown. The elements of the past stuff is still there in full force, but there's been a lot of growing and creativity with the new line-up.
"Everybody bringing in their personal influences and incorporating them into the band has made the material much more diverse but still true to it's form. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to work my ass off to bring the fans everything they deserve and more. We're going full steam ahead and hopefully we'll turn some heads on the way."

“Folk music is definitely more ambient, pure, and beautiful. Metal is intense, raunchy, and driving. The use of both in songs, combined with dynamic contouring, has the ability to take the listener on the kind of journey that rises to mountain peaks and descends into valleys, in a sonic sort of way,” comments vocalist / guitarist Dave Khan.

25 year Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy recently announced his departure from the band's ranks. Dream Theater's James LaBrie has now issued the following statement about the situation:
"Hi Everyone, Thought I would give you time to digest the news of Mike's departure. Mike stated that he was burnt out with the DT world and needed a break. We have to respect where he is at and where this will lead him at this particular point in time. With that being said, we are more than pumped to continue the legacy of DT and jump full on into the next chapter. Rest assured it will be great. You can count on it.
"On another positive note. Matt and I are psyched with the reaction and reviews 'Static Impulse is receiving around the world. We can't wait until everyone can get their hands on the complete disc. and hear it the way it was intended. I will be around more often to see how you're all doing and to fill you with any and all news. Take care and not long now until the 27th or 28th depending on where you live. Kick it up a notch."
John Petrucci also added: "Obviously you've all heard the news of Mike's departure from Dream Theater by now. I felt it important to open up a line of communication in an effort to kill any rumors and to promote clarity. I love Mike and really hope he's happy and successful in whatever he does. I realize that Mike was always the one to actively stay in touch with our fans, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to try to be at least a bit more present on both mine and DT's websites and to let you all know that I am here. Davide Tiso of Ephel Duath has announced a new project titled Manuscripts Don't Burn, which will see its first release in October via Aural Music. Tiso issued the following statement about the new project:
"I thought about a one man band since my Black Metal days back in the ’90s. The idea of taking care of every aspect of the creative process has always been something I’ve been into (see Ephel Duath), but with Manuscripts Don't Burn I take this to a new limit: not involving anyone in the performing and recording process too. A year ago I started to compose for the Karyn Crisis solo album. I wrote a lot of songs, probably too many and with too much going on: there was no space for vocals.
"The songs were ready and done, without her voice. I restarted to compose for her from scratch, in the meantime I remained with enough material to start the solo adventure of above. I’m totally absorbed by this new direction, there’s something magic about these songs, an extremely positive vibe surrounds them. They have been composed without any kind of effort, like they were already existing and ready to be caught on tape. There’s something that needs to be spread through these songs: genuine compassionate feelings towards whomever wants to deal with this music. This is what I’m proudly doing now, hoping that this new palette will become an important part of my career and last the test of fire (you people) like those manuscripts Bulgakov was talking about."
Sweden's Scarpoint has issued the following announcement about donating the profits from the release of a new song to an anti-bullying campaign for Swedish schools:
"Hey fuckers! So finally we can give you the news we've waiting for to give you for over a year now. When we recorded the album we also recorded a song with a bunch of our friends on it. Why?
"It all begun back in 2008 when we read an article about a young boy from Örebro, Sweden, who was repeatedly physically bullied at school, receiving hits to both his head and his face. He came up with the idea to pay other pupils with his own toys for protection. The school tried to put a stop to it but to no avail and as a result the boys suffered from difficult psychological problems. When we read this, our hearts was shattered into thousands of pieces. We could not imagine that a Swedish school would fail to this degree in regards to protecting this young boy.
"This is just one of many examples that further confirm that the lack of sufficient anti-bullying programs in schools negatively effects our future generations. Not content to just sit around and do nothing, we, Scarpoint, decided to take action and call some of our friends and try to give something back to the kids that listening to our style of music. We also decided that every single Krona/ Pound/ Dollar/ Euro/ Yen/ Franc/ Peso/ Rupee/ Ruble/ Lira, whatever, that is generated by sales of this song that would normally (hopefully) find their way to us will go directly to an anti bullying campaign for Swedish schools. This project has been fully funded by us, Scarpoint, along with the generous assistance of all the people involved who gave their valuable time, knowledge and talents to the project, so there is no money needed to be recouped, and it all goes to the cause. Judgement Day has just headed out on a run of live dates. The band comments from the road:
"We're on tour! It's been great so far. In Portland, we played with our good friends in Cull for their Welcome-Home-From-Tour show, which was very special. In Seattle we had a great time playing and hanging out with Gladiators Eat Fire and we also had some awesome sneak attacks on the street outside of PAX 2010, a gigantic video game expo which our friend who told us about it called 'the biggest nerd convention in the United States.' They loved us! In Corvallis we played an extra long set complete with prizes and fire dancers. In Olympia we played a house show to an extremely interesting and diverse crowd which included a handful of anarchist punks, two clean-cut Iraq war veterans and two Judgement Day fans who hitchhiked to the show from California!"

We met some really cool people, some talented bassists, but in the end Joe Zahareais was the man for the job. We're very excited to have bass back in the band."
