American heavy metal band Slough Feg has completed work on the band's follow-up to "Ape Uprising," which is entitled "The Animal Spirits." Vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi comments on the new album: "The title sounds like it could mean plenty of things, but really refers to an Aristotelian theory of perception that was somehow taken seriously until the mid to later 1700's (?!) Why this was I don't know, but it involves these bizarre fluid called ‘animal spirits’ traveling through a person's veins carrying information of what they have perceived, storing it in the heart, and then releasing it again when that thing is remembered. It really a primitive precursor to the idea of neurons firing in a chain, containing ideas. So that's what people will find if they do a little research about the title."
Going further into the themes of the album, Scalzi elaborates: "The content of the record is (subject wise) is not too far from usual SLOUGH FEG material. The first two songs are about Medieval Catholic theology. Then it switches to basic horror themes, a couple of songs about some insane person who thinks he's a vampire, and then a werewolf (inspired by the Gothic soap-opera ‘Dark Shadows’) then there's one of our weird ‘what if Dicky Betts of the Allman Brothers had joined Iron Maiden in 1980’ instrumentals. Then a few more songs about frustration, misery and madness, and a final fast, driving rock/metal number called ‘Tactical Air-War’, which will be sung by Bob Wright of Brocas Helm!”
You can listen to two new MP3s off the album, "The 95 Thesis" and "Free Market Barbarian" at this location. The album is set for a North American release on October 26th via Profound Lore Records. More...

Virgin Steele's David DeFeis has sent over another exclusive studio update (here's the first and the second update) from the recording sessions for the band's new album, "The Black Light Bacchanalia," indicating that they're nearly done recording and will soon be mixing it.
We are currently completing the remaining vocals, stray bits of orchestration and guitar solos....It looks like we will be heading into mix mode quite soon, and will hopefully remain on schedule! I am working non-stop to meet our deadline. New studio gear will be arriving this week and will certainly enhance what we are attempting to achieve. The album as I stated earlier is quite long, and also the bonus disc will also be pretty lengthy, as the spoken bio that I am doing is nearly 30 minutes at the moment...I hope to not simply have the bio sound like a dry dull history or science class assignment. I hope to add bits and pieces of music in there that will connect the various sections. I may use various tracks from the album, like an orchestra section or strings, that you normally would not hear that well, what with all the guitars and drums wailing away...so...it will hopefully prove entertaining.
The cover artwork is nearly ready. As I mentioned we are doing 3 distinct yet related covers. The images I have used here come from my travels in the world of History, Mythology, Anthropology and the Occult. There will be strange wood etchings used on all 3, that depict how the later "new religious" folk saw the earlier Gods & Goddess & their worship...
Anyway...it is a long hot summer here, as there is no air conditioning in the studio...and I am currently gushing water like monsoon season....It is time for one very quick leap into a nearby ocean, and then more black coffee and vocals....I shall switch to wine for the evening...
Thanks for listening and all the absolute best to you ALL!

"Here’s a very short update from Foel Studios in Wales where we are currently hard at work recording what will be our debut album. We’ve been here a few days now and everything is running very smoothly with Chris Fielding at the helm. The studio is well renowned for it's warm production and analogue facilities and has been used in the past by everyone from Porcupine Tree to Primordial, Hawkwind, Napalm Death, The Wildhearts, and many more.
"In total we will spend 2 weeks here putting everything we’ve got into trying to capture on record, the Celtic metal storm, that has become our sound over the past number of years. More updates to come."
Guitarist Stu Marshall of Empires of Eden has checked in with the following update about the band's activity:
"It's time for a blog update on what is happening. And there has been alot going on. Being currently signed and licensed to the label's 7Hard (world) and Rockstar Records (Australia), the newest album 'Reborn in Fire' is now on shelves globally. It's great to hear from people from all over the world, please, keep the messages flowing. In other good news, a few of Europe's most prestigious metal reviewers are saying great things about the album. 7Hard contacted me the other day to say they are repressing the album due to the sales figs and it seems to be reaching metal fans everywhere.
"I can also mention I have been in contact with many of the guests since recording the album, and they are all thrilled with the end result. It's still something I enjoy listening to and there are plans afoot for album #3 next year. Next, we are trying some European and US based promoters to tour this epic, once we get some confirmation we will announce it here of course.
"This year I'll be re-mixing and remastering the debut album. The re-release will include a bonus track from US metal screamer 'Sean Peck' and with critics raving about his song on the new album, we discussed something over the top to include. I am thinking of adding a few new instrumental tracks as bonus' also. More...

Guitarist Mat Bellezza also added: "The song he plays the solo on had this kind of instrumental part in the middle which sounded quite unusual for us because the first half is just with bass and drums and the second half with rhythm guitars too. We needed something different from the other solos on the album, something really distinctive, a solo which could play the lead role once the song gets there. Thanks to Richie now we got it!"
