Trapped Within Burning Machinery - Moreno Valley, California's five-piece crushing doom/sludge outfit - is set to play this year's Day Of The Shred Fest on November 1st alongside Red Fang, Weedeater, Windhand, The Shrine, and a whole hell of a lot more.
The band was originally a one-man project started by Zak Esparza (lead guitar/vocalist) in 2007. After recording some demos, Zak recruited close friend Geoff Jones to play drums and Juan Rodriguez to fill in on bass.
The trio wrote and recorded the band’s first demo, "Evolutionary Transmitted Disease," and self-released it in the summer of 2009. In January 2011, the band entered the studio to record a first full-length album, "The Putrid Stench of Decaying Self," this time with new bassist Ernie Ballerz and second guitarist Robert Trujillo. The band released the full-length through Black Voodoo Records on October 5th, 2012.
In early 2014, the group released a limited split tape with LA's Pigeonwing. Trapped Within Burning Machinery has also recently added a third guitarist, James Inglett, to expand its sound. As of April of 2014, TWBM just finished second full-length, "The Filth Element," recorded with renowned producer/engineer John Haddad (Intronaut, Exhumed, Phobia), which will be released via Midnite Collective in the near future.
Day Of The Shred takes place at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California on Novemer 1st. Tickets are available here and the show will feature Red Fang, Weedeater, Windhand Elder, The Shrine, Bongripper, Radio Moscow, Ancestors, Glitter Wizard, Graves At Sea, Danava, Arctic, Hot Lunch, All Them Witches, Goya, (16), Greenbeard, and Trapped Within Burning Machinery. Northern Germany's Mob Rules is back with Steamhammer/SPV - as the band celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, the group signed a new deal and is returning to the record company which already released and distributed five of it's previous studio albums.
"For us it's a great pleasure to have signed with Steamhammer," comments the band. "We're looking forward to the collaboration with Olly Hahn and his team, who supported us in both word and deed in the years between 1999 and 2008 and whose expertise we greatly value."
Steamhammer's product manager Hahn is happy to return this compliment: "Mob Rules have been among the most significant and impressive German melodic metal acts. We're proud to have them back on our roster."
Mob Rules is set to launch the first result of this renewed worldwide cooperation, the 20th anniversary boxed set "Timekeeper," on October 13th, 2014 (Germany: October 10th, US/Canada: October 28th). More...

Recorded with Stu McKay at Studio 6 in London with mixing/mastering by Chris Foster, "Totalitarian Dystopia" hurls forth a thirty-six minute maelstrom of audio wreckage through ten corrosive tales dissecting chaos, corruption, and the imminent collapse of mankind.
The record includes guest appearances from Tom Barber of Lorna Shore, Mendel of Aborted, and Jamie Hanks of I Declare War, and promises to engulf an entire new legion of modern death fanatics worldwide with its surgical execution and relentless brutality. More...

Expect an uplifting and hard-hitting journey through groove-ridden riffing and punching beats."

White Arms Of Athena recently recorded the band's sophomore Prosthetic effort at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou (Every Time I Die, High On Fire, Kvelertak).
The as-yet-untitled album -- expected to be released later this year -- will be mixed by Ballou, engineered and co-produced by Travis Kammeyer (Storm of Light, Generation of Vipers) and mastered by Alan Douches (Baroness, The Dillinger Escape Plan).
White Arms Of Athena's forthcoming album proceeds in a new direction from the 2011 full-length debut "Astrodrama," featuring a mélange of experimental progressive passages with a psychedelic-infused ambience.
The band, which has previously shared the stage with acts including Arsonists Get All The Girls, Katalepsy, Fallujah, The Contortionist, The Ocean, East of the Wall, Holy Grail and Baring Teeth, will release further information on the upcoming release in the coming weeks.
CVLT Nation is streaming Funerary's debut, "Starless Aeon," in its entirety today prior to its August 12 release along with a free download. Check it out below. You can also catch Funerary live on these dates:

Finding solace in dwindling light, the band creates a musical presence that is powerful and progressive in the realm of doom metal by combining what can only be described as cosmic, transcending songs ridden with despair and indignity. Dragonforce will release "Maximum Overload" in the U.S. on August 19th via Metal Blade Records (reviewed here), and the album is available for pre-order through Metal Blade in CD, digital, and limited edition vinyl formats.
The album also features an all time first for Dragonforce: a cover song. Guitarist Sam Totman explained: "Just before the last Australian tour, our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we've always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down 3 songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down 'Ring Of Fire' by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we've Dragonforce-ized it"!
Kentucky’s Xerxes will release new album, "Collision Blonde," on October 21st via No Sleep Records.
Today, the band is streaming the records’s first new track, “Chestnut Street,” which can be heard below thanks to SPIN.com.
Fans can pre-order the album now at iTunes (with an instant download of “Chestnut Street”) and from No Sleep Records here. The label also comments:
"A lot has happened in the last three years since Xerxes' debut LP, Our Home is a Deathbed, both in the contemporary hardcore scene and in the band's personal lives. On Collision Blonde, Calvin Philley vocally delivers feelings on an album he hopes 'touches an aggressive place that I’m not comfortable with. I want it to hurt. I want it to be hard to listen to.' Philley comes across as a frantic mess about the last few years of reaching the heralded young age of 21 in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
"The band's sophomore full length is backed by guitarist Will Allard, bassist Joseph Goode and drummer Ben Sears (who also plays alongside Allard in Whips/Chains). With a new line-up and some years removed from their young, violent hardcore days, Collision Blonde's instrumental prowess sounds less like their elder contemporaries and more a cleaner tone reminiscent of Jesus and Mary Chain and The Cure, yet sharp and uneasy in the vein of Bauhaus’ early gothic post-punk edge. Tracks like 'Knife' and the closing 'Nosedive' are aggressively built up into a cathartic release, alluding to Ceremony, Iceage and mewithoutYou at times. More...

The Italian death metal merchants in Hideous Divinity, who feature within their ranks current and former members of Hour Of Penance and Ghouls, are preparing to unleash their second full-length on October 28th in the U.S. and 31st in Europe.
Titled "Cobra Verde," the offering was recorded at 16th Cellar Studios (House Of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Trifixion, Vomit The Soul) in early 2014 and, in keeping with the tradition laid by former debut, "Obeisance Rising," revolves itself around a movie concept.
Comments the band, "Cobra Verde is no ordinary album. We entered Stefano 'Saul' Morabito's 16th Cellar Studios for the second time, knowing we could get the best only going to the best. We pushed Saul and he did the same with us: we struggled, argued, started from scratch numerous times. The result was hard to reach but in the end no one could say anything but, 'THIS is it.'
"Drums and vocals were entirely performed and recorded in the studio, while guitars were pre-recorded and reamped by Saul using a combination of Peavey Triple XXX and Mesa Dual Rectifier. Bass was also pre-recorded and re-amped. Prepare for the slavery of the human heart." More...

Sweden's Amaranthe, known for fusing melodic metal with elements of EDM, will release their third album "Massice Addictive" via Spinefarm Records on October 21. The album was tracked at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark with Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica) at the helm. It marks the first release for the band's third vocalist Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson, who joined in 2013.
"'Massive Addictive' is true to its title. The band's signature, larger-than-life sound, comprised of kinetic riffing, pulsating beats and celestial, melodic choruses, remains in tact, but the album finds Amaranthe continuing to explore a range of dynamics and with a willingness to push themselves even further."
Guitarist Olaf Mörck (Dragonland) commented: "We have lived and breathed this album every hour and every day the last year, and to know that this music is about to reach everyone's ears is beyond exciting. Following the first leg of The Nexus World Tour, we sat down and agreed that we wanted the next album to be really fresh, new and even to raise a few eyebrows, all while retaining our signature sound."
He continued, "'Massive Addictive' is in every way that huge leap forward we wanted to achieve and the album definitely contain our strongest song writing to date. The press often asks us to 'describe the album with three words'; this time, the answer is simple - it's MASSIVE, it's ADDICTIVE, and most importantly, it's AMARANTHE!"
The track listing for the release is:
2. Drop Dead Cynical
4. Massive Addictive
5. Digital World
8. Over and Done
9. Danger Zone
11. An Ordinary Abnormality
12. Exhale More...
Triptykon premiered the new music video for the track "Aurorae" over at Metal Hammer's website at this location (also in the player below). The song appears on the latest album "Melana Chasmata," which was issued back in April via Century Media Records (see review here).
The clip is an ominous visualisation of "Aurorae," one of the most poignant and personal songs on "Melana Chasmata." It was directed by Philipp Hirsch (who previously collaborated with Triptykon for the group's highly acclaimed "Shatter" video clip), and filmed in Leipzig, Germany, earlier this year. As it was the case with "Shatter", the "Aurorae" clip is based on concepts by Hirsch and Triptykon singer/guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior.
The "Aurorae" clip is to be followed later in 2014 by an EP of the same title, featuring additional unreleased music by the group and released through Century Media Records/Prowling Death Records. Moreover, the end of the year will see Triptykon embark on a major European tour with At The Gates.

Elina Laivera, ex-vocalist of the Greek act Seduce the Heaven, has announced that the debut solo album/project with French keyboardist/composer Viv Lalu will be entitled "Kaleidoscope." The album is targeted for release in late 2015.
The announcement reads:
"Dear friends and fans, after a year of composing music and pouring feelings on paper, it's time to introduce my debut solo album, KALEIDOSCOPE, coming out in late 2015.
"THE ALBUM is exactly what its title orders; a kaleidoscope of sounds and images. Looking through it, each song is a different pattern/scenery. KALEIDOSCOPE is an observation of life and events through my own eyes, stories with their bright and dark shapes and reflections and how these views even change from time to time, just like a kaleidoscopic pattern changes.
"Of course, everyone can see different things in these patterns/songs, looking through the Kaleidoscope; things they can either relate to already or stories that are new to them. What one can see through the Kaleidoscope depends either on their own imagination or former experience or on their ability of perception.
"Hence, KALEIDOSCOPE offers a look into one's soul.
"Dare to have a look?"
More information on the release, including the various guest appearances, is expected soon. More...

In the midst of writing a new album, Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish announced that drummer Jukka Nevalainen is forced to step down and take a break from music activities due to ongoing health concerns. It seems for many years, Nevalainen has been suffering from insomnia. His replacement for the upcoming follow up to "Imaginaerum" will be Wintersun/Swallow the Sun drummer Kai Hahto.
Nevalainen posted a statement and a video (shown below):
"How to begin telling something that you wouldn’t want to have to tell, although you know that the decision you made is the only (at least the only right) one you could make at the moment? I face this dilemma now, and will do my best to find the right words.

"During the last month, it has become evident for me that due to my insomnia, I can’t fulfill my duties as a musician in the way that I’d want and with the precision that the music deserves. Thus I have decided to step aside from my duties as the drummer of Nightwish during the recording of the forthcoming album and the subsequent tour. I will still be involved in managing the day-to-day affairs of the band, but the dearest and the most important thing, playing, is, for the time being, not possible. Time will tell what the future holds.
"On a personal level, my decision obviously feels indescribably sad. Fortunately, looking at it with some distance, it is “just” part of the constant, inevitable ebb and flow of life. The sad things are part of it as well as the beautiful, unforgettable experiences and adventures that I’ve already had the pleasure to experience in spades. Surely, there will still be many adventures ahead, too. More...
