Guitarist Mark "M.E". Edwards of the New Jersey metal band Overlorde, has posted video footage of his solo performance from ProgPower USA XII. The video showcases his song, "Blinder." The video was filmed on September 16th, 2011.
The footage is of M.E.'s "One Man Show," where he performs to sequenced backing tracks that he programmed using a Roland R-70 in the 1990's.

Avantasia has issued the following announcement about working on a new album to see release next year:
"What many have recently been speculating about we're now happy to confirm. Tobias is indeed working on a new Avantasia epic that is planned to be released in spring 2013. Concept wise the album will be a classic Rock-Opera / Metal Opera. It's going to be a timeless fairytale, that despite its fantasy appeal, was inspired by happenings of our modern age and society. You‘ll find plenty of further details at our website in the near future.
"Originally Tobias wanted to lay Avantasia to rest after the release of its live DVD 'Flying Opera' in April 2011, which topped the charts in Germany, Austria and Sweden and went Top 10 all over Europe, respectively after its headliner appearance at Wacken Open Air 2011 in front of more than 100,000 fans."
About the surprising return of Avantasia, Tobias Sammet says: "Even though I love to record and tour with Edguy, I didn‘t foresee how much I need Avantasia when I decided to finish this chapter of my life in 2011. I didn't know if there would be another Avantasia album one day, but I didn‘t feel like doing it. After the worldwide success of the latest studio releases, an arena world tour that was sold out pretty much everywhere, collaborations with childhood heroes like Alice Cooper, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Eric Singer of Kiss etc. I 'knew' that I had said everything I could possibly say in the name of Avantasia. But that's not what Avantasia is all about. I wanna create more great music, I wanna create more fantasy-worlds, the bigger and the more epic, the better. And listening to the material that I have created for this forthcoming chapter in the history of Avantasia, I know there is no way, I am not going to do it! I have got the feeling and the certainty, that this is absolutely meant to happen and to be! - Cheerz, Tobi."
There’s a whole lotta metal out there, spanning dozens to possibly hundreds of sub-genres, and it can be difficult to find new music to match your tastes if you don’t know where to start looking. Every Monday we unearth three lesser known or unsigned metal bands within specific genres or geographical areas that deserve to be heard by a bigger audience.
With metal’s roots firmly rooted in thrash, and with styles like power metal dominating a big portion of the playing field, heavy music is generally thought of as something fast and furious played while lightning fast fingers work up and down the fretboard. While this is often the case, there’s a large section of metal that likes to take a nice leisurely stroll down aural destruction avenue.
Today we’ll put the spotlight on three acts that have a seriously sludgy component to their music. Sludge, stoner, doom, drone: these genre tags and more all get lumped together and frequently intersect at varying points, so there may be some crossover and any given listener may decide these bands are more one than the other. My only qualification here is that they utterly annihilate musically, usually in slow motion and with a fair share of drawn out notes, like a low speed avalanche of crushing molten metal.
This California act is a bit of a dream for fans of sludge or funeral doom. Formerly called Bewilderbiest before dropping a proper release, Bereft is still very much an unknown in the overall metal scene, even though it features names that will be familiar to fans of extreme metal, including Derek Rydquist (The Faceless) and Charles Elliot (Abysmal Dawn). Moving away from their normal modes of operation, these musicians are producing a more primal, less technical form of extreme metal that’s a disturbing look into the hate and despair humanity is capable of feeling.
Bereft has now released debut album “Leichenhaus” (reviewed here), and while tracks from the release are unfortunately sparse online, there are a few ways to check out the music. A live performance video of two songs off the album can be heard below, or you can check out the full album version of “Withered Efflorescence” via Facebook. Noisecreep is also currently hosting a stream of the track “Ethereal Dispersal” at this location.
Legendary U.S. doom act Coven (also known as Coven 13) has been confirmed to appear at Germany's Hammer Of Doom Festival on November 10th at Posthalle in Würzburg. The festival begins on November 9th for Epic Night at which Ross The Boss will headline. Coven will join Pentagram, The Skull, Solstice and others in performing the next day, appropriately called 'Doomsday.' Shadow Kingdom Records reissued Coven's legendary 1987 album "Worship New Gods" on July 31st of this year. Visit the Facebook Hammer Of Doom Festival page for more information on the event and an updated list of bands that have confirmed.
Slaughter By The Water 3 is pleased to announce the addition of the almighty Exodus as this year’s main stage headliner. The main stage will also include performances by Philm, Severed Fifth, Absu, Witchaven, Impaled, Autopsy, Fog of War, and Abysmal Dawn.
The Pier stage will include performances by Enemy In Peril, Desecrator, Necrosin, Hemotoxin, Ulysses, Siren, Scars of Envy and ZH. A video of Bay Area thrash legends Testament announcing Exodus as the headliners is online now and can be viewed below.
The third annual Slaughter By The Water event will take place on August 25th, 2012 on the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier in Alameda, CA. Sponsored by Monster Energy Drink, Lock & Shock, Rock The Bike, Bay Area Rocks, Scion, Native American Health Center, Dunlop, Anchor Bay Tattoos, Ustream, and Expressions College, the event is hosted by Testament’s Chuck Billy, who recently sat down and recorded an intro video which can be viewed here.
Advance tickets for the main stage performances (general admission) are on sale now and are just $35.00. Tickets cost $45.00 at the door. Tickets are available at this location. Main stage performances begin at 5pm and go until 12:30am aboard the USS Hornet. More...

This or the Apocalypse has announced the brand new album "Dead Years" will be released on September 25th, 2012. "'Dead Years' is full of some of the most painfully honest material we've ever written," says front man Ricky Armellino.
This will be the band's first release since "Haunt What's Left," produced by Josh Wilbur and Lamb Of God's own Chris Adler in 2010. "Dead Years" was produced by Kevin Lankford and engineered by Andreas Magnusson. "The album features both some of the saddest, most melodic songs we've ever played and it also holds some of the angriest."
When asked what fans can expect, Armellino concludes: "It's about war and family, how we're really never unaffected by the world around us, no matter how hard we try to get away from it. We're very proud to finally get the opportunity to release it." More...

Cleveland post-hardcore act Inhale Exhale are pleased to announce an October 9th release date for "Movement," the band's fourth album and first with new label Red Cord Records.
"Movement" marks the band’s first new material since a brief hiatus following the release of 2009’s "Bury Me Alive." The following press release was also issued about the release: "It’s an album that finds the tightly knit quartet further perfecting the feral riffs and dynamic anthems they’ve become known for, one that shows the band haven’t 'moved' away from their signature sound. Which isn’t to say that Movement sounds rehashed or recycled, but rather like a band reinvigorated."
“I think Movement comes from the same vein as Bury Me Alive, but it's definitely a more aggressive and technical album all around,” says guitarist John LaRussa. “It has an old school feel to it. It doesn't let up too much, but it's really balanced with melody. Ultimately we've never tried to sound like anyone. We have always just wanted to make well crafted songs.”
Watch the teaser trailer for "Movement" at this location. The track listing is:
2) Party Drama
3) A Poise for Poson
4) Mirage In The Middle of Summer
5) The Collectors
7) Carpe Diem

NBC News is reporting that Wade Michael Page, the alleged gunman who is believed to have shot and killed at least six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin this weekend, was also apparently the front man for a white supremacist punk rock/metal band called End Apathy.
End Apathy's MySpace music page is currently still active and still has several songs for streaming with titles like "Self Destruct," "Submission," and "Useful Idiots." The band's bio reads that "End Apathy began in 2005 with roots in old school hardcore punk and metal influences. The music is a sad commentary on our sick society and the problems that prevent true progress."
Wade was reportedly discharged from the Army in 1998, and no clear motive for his alleged shooting has been announced at this time. According to reports, Page himself was shot dead by a police officer at the scene of the crime.
An interview Deadline Live conducted with Wade Page from 2010 is also still available online at this location.

Finnish act Noumena has issued the following statement about gearing up to record a new full-length album:
"Hello darklings! Almost six years has passed since the release of 'Anatomy of Life.' There have been lots of things in our lives in recent years, but the fervour for the music hasn't died. We have played gigs, written new songs and recorded some of them during past 3-4 years. Unfortunatelly, we weren't able to release the material.
"Now, we have decided to enter studio in October to record our next album, which will be released in the beginning of 2013. There are great songs we want to deliver and chilling moments we want to share! We feel that we owe it to our wonderful fans.
"So, there's going to be lots of blood, sweat and tears during following weeks as we have to grind and rehearse the songs. We shall report to you about the process and offer some pictures and sounds in some sort of diary or blog. Stay tuned!"

The second installment of Ufomammut's two-part ORO album series -- "ORO: Opus Alter" -- has been previously confirmed for North American release on September 18th via Neurot Recordings, and today more details on this gargantuan LP have arrived. Today the full track listing for this new chapter has been released, as well as the cover art brought to you once again by the Malleus Art Collective.
Additionally the band has continued the tradition of visually presenting each track from the ORO series for fans, and today has unveiled the album's second hymn, "Luxon" in full video style. Check out the song below, and the full track listing is:
The following press release was also issued about the album:
"As with all previous Ufomammut albums, the concepts behind ORO are expansive and multi-faceted, mutating the Italian palindrome which translates to 'gold' with the Latin translation of 'I prey.' ORO explores the concept of knowledge and its power; the magical stream controlled by the human mind to gain control of every single particle of the world surrounding us. ORO is the alchemical process to transform the human fears into pure essence; into Gold. Although ORO's two chapters will be released months apart from each other, they must be considered as a single track in which the musical themes and the sounds appear and reappear, mutate and evolve, progressively culminating in the crushing final movement. ORO is an alchemic laboratory in which substances are flowing, dividing and blending themselves in ten increments from the alembics and stills, culminating into the creation of Gold. More...
The Safety Fire released debut album "Grind The Ocean" at the beginning of April this year through InsideOut Music. The band recently finished a UK tour with French metal titans Gojira, which followed a show at this year's Download Festival at Donington Park. The band documented these dates and have created a live video for the track "DMB (FDP)." Dez explains a bit more about how the video was made and why they picked this track in particular:
"'DMB (FDP)' is one of our favourite songs to play live and was an obvious choice for this video. We love touring, and wanted to give a wider audience a glimpse into what our live show is all about. We filmed over several UK dates, including our performance at Download and our recent run with GOJIRA. We were lucky enough to have our good friend Jamie Carter produce the video, whose eclectic credits include RISE TO REMAIN, CONOR MAYNARD, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND and PROFESSOR GREEN to name a few. Other filming duties were handled by our friends and crew including our brü Adam Nolly Getgood, who recently joined PERIPHERY. More importantly this video will help spread the message of #FDP. Lamb of God's Randy Blythe, who spent over a month in a Prague prison while awaiting bail over charges of manslaughter, has now finally issued the following official statement:
"Greetings. This is D. Randall Blythe, checking in from my beloved hometown of Richmond, VA, United States of America. I was recently released on bail from Pankrác Prison in Prague, Czech Republic, after over a month of incarceration. Now that I am out for the moment, I would like to say a few things.
"1. While in prison, I had minimal knowledge of how my case was viewed anywhere but the Czech Republic. I was told by my attorney that I had a lot support from peers in the music industry, my hometown, fans, and of course my family. I cannot express how emotional it made me upon my release to read about even a fraction of the voices that were raised on my behalf. From legends in my music community, to fans across the world, and even people who were previously unaware of my existence but sympathized with my plight- I am truly humbled. I cannot thank you enough for your thoughts and prayers. I would especially like to thank the people of Richmond, VA, for standing by me. In the 48 hours I have been home, many people I have never met before have stopped me on the street, waved and smiled as I passed by, or said hello in a restaurant. All have said 'We are glad you are home, Randy.' You all make me proud and grateful that I call Richmond home.
"2. I would like state that I suffered no abuse, from either authorities or inmates, during my incarceration in Pankrác. I received no special treatment, and was in general population with everyone else - make no mistake, it was prison, not some celebrity rehab tv show. But I was treated fairly by the guards and kindly by my fellow inmates. People are dying of starvation all over the world. Men and women are losing their lives daily in the Middle East and other war torn regions. I had food, clothes, shelter, and no one was trying to kill me. I cannot complain over a short stay in prison while many people elsewhere fight to survive on a daily basis. More...
