Last updated on March 3, 2015 at 2:16 AM ET
We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
36 news articles posted on this day.
Grind, slam, death, black: metal has its share of extreme bands that revel in pulverizing an audience with unrelenting brutality or smothering out all hope with ceaseless darkness. Today we’ll move away from that side of metal however, to enjoy the more melodic sounds heavy bands have to offer.
Every week we unearth three bands you may not have heard of from the more underground corners of the scene, and this week’s all about the melody! If you dig power, prog, classic metal, or any combination of the three, these are all bands that are well worth your time.
Kicking off our latest look at less extreme bands is Finland’s Cardiant, which leans significantly more towards power metal, but with a dash of traditional and prog metal thrown in for good measure. The band has a lot going on across that spectrum, so don’t be surprised if you hear a variety of piano and keyboard segments, along with some choruses of clean singing that even bring to mind Devin Townsend’s “Epicloud.”
While there are a scattered handful of darker moments, overall Cardiant is melodic and upbeat through and through. The band’s latest album “Verge” is out now through Inverse Records, which follows the previous two full-lengths “Tomorrow’s Daylight” and “Midday Moon.” Get acquainted with the outfit through two tracks off “Verge” below.
Norwegian grindcore innovators Beaten To Death have set October 4th as the release date for their second album "Dødsfest!," coming out via Mas-Kina Recordings.
Here’s what drummer Christian "Bartender" Svendsen had to say about the recording process of the new album: "I think we gain more than we lose when we record live. It's far from perfect but it sounds ten times more authentic than your typical metal record."
Vocalist Anders Bakke complements, "The guitars sound like a shotgun marriage between The Troggs and Big Black, and oddly enough it blends perfectly with the brutality of the rhythm section, like warm poo with hard snow."
Meanwhile, the band has launched a brief YouTube teaser for the album, check it out below. The track listing is as follows:
1. Vulpes Vulpes, Mustela Lutreola, Praedium
2. The Egg Thrower
4. True Norwegian Internet Metal Warrior

Lexington, KY's Beyond the Shore, which recently returned from The Blackest Hearts Tour with Bermuda, is pleased to announce Jonathon Pugh as the group's new full-time drummer.

The band comments: "All of us in Beyond the Shore are very excited to announce that we've brought in Jonathon Pugh to be our new full-time drummer. We all met him in North Carolina while recording our current release Ghostwatcher and had stayed in touch since. Here we are almost later and we couldn't be happier to have him sitting behind the kit for us. Jonathan's a very talented drummer, but more importantly he fits well with us as dudes and that's invaluable when making music and touring together." More...
Bloody Disgusting has premiered Bermuda's new music video for the track "Process of Drowning", which can be seen below.
The song comes from the band's album "The Wandering," which is available in stores and online now from Mediaskare Records. Vocalist Corey Bennet describes the video process:
"The video was shot in Birmingham, Alabama in the span of three days (one for our performance shots and two for Abbey’s story shots) with local director Alan Collins. We had a great time shooting it (though as any band will tell you, lip syncing to your own music and acting as though you’re playing is awkward) and learned a lot from the experience.
"We knew we wanted a story to the video, and wanted there to be meaning to it rather than just a bland performance video. Thus the idea of our heroine being kidnapped, tortured and drowned (signifying being taken advantage of, used, hurt, or betrayed by individuals) by a faceless assailant, who mistakenly walks away from his victim and thereby becomes the victim himself. We are beyond proud of the final product, and hope you all enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed creating it. Our biggest thanks go out to Alan and his crew, as well as our actress Abbey, for their gracious involvement!" More...

"Broken Leaves and Haunted Streets was actually written back when I was seventeen years old and completely new to the songwriting process. I’d been a drummer all my life, and had more recently been experimenting at the time with guitar, bass, and piano.
"As a birthday and Christmas were approaching, my parents knew that I was in search of a new drum set, but instead opted to get me a different kind of gift in the shape of a four track recorder. They thought it would be a better investment down the line if I knew how to record and capture my own creativity, but I was reluctant to accept this idea and barely touched the device for the first year owning it. You'll notice many Riot lyrical and song references here, this is of course deliberate, even down to the title of this track. In the Riot song 'Metal Soldiers' the lyrics say: 'Let me hear your battle cry...' They also speak of 'Metal Soldiers, marching through the night.' Well this is our reply to that...our lyric is 'Marching through the night... WE HEAR YOUR BATTLE CRY!' Indeed we did...R.I.P. Mark."
