Cradle Of Filth Announces Livestream Show

Despite the extremely difficult situation for musicians and concerts all over the world, Vampyric Masters of Extreme Metal, Cradle Of Filth, continue to appease their salivating fans by celebrating All Hallow's Eve in style, even in 2020, the official year of the plague.

This time the band, draped around lead singer Dani Filth, take it to the next far-flung tower by announcing a live stream concert from St. Mary's Church, Colchester Art Centre, England for the auspicious date of October, 30th.

Dani Filth states: “As a band Cradle Of Filth are over-the-moon to be performing again and in such an iconic location close to Dani's home county of Suffolk here in England.

"It will be a celebration of not only Halloween and all it’s ghoulish accoutrements, but also of the new Cradle album being completed, a process that helped neutralise the banality of the lockdown, gifting the band with a deadline-free (and thus stress-free) studio session.

"And thus helping make the new album the best the band have written, period. More...

Necrophobic Releases New Music Video

Swedish blackened death metal legends, Necrophobic, have released the second single, “The Infernal Depths Of Eternity”, from their undoubtedly most diverse and elaborated album to date, Dawn Of The Damned, which will be released on October 9 via Century Media Records worldwide. The stunning video for the track was created by Costin Chioreanu. You can check it out below.

The band comments: "Necrophobic and Costin Chioreanu have worked together to bring out the very essence of the new album 'Dawn Of The Damned.' We wanted to visualise the phases of the opening of the third eye. The serpent's awakening and the traveller’s shift from flesh to soul. The song 'The Infernal Depths Of Eternity' is the continuation of 'Mirror Black.' Where the album‘s first video is about the gateway to the other side, this second video is about when we make contact with the spirit realm through the devil's crown. We could not be happier with the result. Costin's video art matches the vision we had when writing the songs just perfectly!" More...

Michael Schenker Unveils New Album Artwork

Michael Schenker has completed the recording of a brand new MSG album, which is set to be released on Nuclear Blast on January 8th, 2021. The album title will be "Immortal," a perfect statement to describe Michael Schenker's legacy and to celebrate his 50th anniversary as a musician.

Today, Michael Schenker reveals the cover artwork of "Immortal," created by Zsofia Dankova (Powerwolf, Elvenking, Fifth Angel etc.) which you can see below.

The album was predominantly recorded at the Kidroom Studio in Germany, with Michael's long time partner Michael Voss who co-produced the album and also sings on two tracks. "It is always a pleasure to work with Michael Voss, who works around the clock and is a phenomenal musician and producer. He was composing the melody and lyrics for a power ballad I had written the music for, and he ended up singing along. It turned out so amazing, I did not think anyone else could have done a better job for this song. Truly great." More...

Insidious Disease Reveals New Album Details

Norwegian death metal horde Insidious Disease, featuring current/former members from Dimmu Borgir, Morgoth, Nile, Susperia and Napalm Death, have announced their first album in a decade, "After Death," will be released on October 30th with Nuclear Blast. Pre-orders are available now and the band has just unleashed a lyric video for a skull-crushing new track titled "Betrayer," which you can check out below.

Commenting on the new track, vocalist Marc Grewe says, "'Betrayer' kicks in straight away and has a quite remarkable hookline and a riffing that kicks you right into the balls. We can’t wait to play that song live again, which we did already a couple of times, and even if fans didn’t know the song yet, it always got a great response and people freaked/moshed out to it! Lyrically, it deals with stuff everybody has experienced: Getting fucked over/ betrayed by people you actually once trusted/loved to the fullest... this can be girlfriends/boyfriends, bandmates, friends or even family... It was a good cathartic event for me when writing these lyrics... from that feeling of total disappointment into anger and finally to expressing it via a song, that channelled all those negativity into something positive!" Ihsahn Posts A-Ha Cover Online

Shapeshifting progressive metal pioneer Ihsahn has once again pushed the boundaries of unconstrained creation, with the release of his striking single/video tribute to Norwegian pop pioneers A-HA. "Manhattan Skyline" is taken from his new EP "Pharos," out 11th September on Candlelight Records, and features the phenomenal vocal talents of Einar Solberg (Leprous).

"Manhattan Skyline" was originally released in 1986 by A-HA and reached number 13 in the UK Singles Chart. With a refresh for 2020 Ihsahn has produced a delicate but true-to-the-original tribute, combining a soft ballad-like verse that explodes into a bombastic rock chorus featuring all of the melodramatic grandeur of the original.

Directed and filmed by Troll Toftenes, the video sees Ihsahn at his most passionate and embracing. With the breathtaking landscape of Norway as the backdrop, Ihsahn plays his Aristides T/0 Lilac Pearl Satin Guitar atop Gaustatoppen, the highest mountain in Norway, at sunset whilst Einar Solberg's (Leprous) earnest and emotional vocals soar to other worldly levels of brilliance. The spectacle never relinquishes its hold on the viewer.

Ihsahn admits that his love of A-HA is not new, revealing: "There are some hints of A-HA even on the second Emperor album!"

This may frustrate followers of the orthodoxy present within extreme music, but for IHSAHN, he has never worried about being confined to certain expectations.

"I never wanted to be as one-dimensional as this black metal image. When I turned 40, I stopped caring but if you start out playing black metal when you're 16, it's hardly because you want to be everybody's favourite." More...

Enslaved Posts "Urjotun" Music Video Online

Norway's premier progressive black metallers Enslaved have today released third single "Urjotun" from their upcoming studio album "Utgard" - out 2nd October via Nuclear Blast. The single, one of their most experimental yet, is accompanied by a psychedelic video detailing dark visions and a journey to the outer reaches of the subconscious.

Vocalist Grutle Kjellson commented:
"The lyrical idea for Urjotun had been spinning around in the chaos in the back of my head for quite a while, when Ivar sent me the riff-demo last autumn. I knew instantly that this was it, the very soundtrack of the rise of the primeval giant, the Urjotun! Our mutual love and fascination for that early krautrock scene and for bands like Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, finally fully ascended in an Enslaved song, almost 30 years after we picked up those legendary kraut-albums. It’s funny, that in Germany they referred to this kind of music as “Kosmische Musik”, cosmic music! And, that is exactly what this song is about; cosmic chaos. On top of this, director David Hall, made a perfect projection and visualization of our troubled minds." More...

Defecto Uploads New Music Video

Defecto get up a head of steam with their second single release from the upcoming album "Duality."

The new track is best described as the boogie riff from hell. A relentless onslaught of adrenaline, "All For You" comes in like a whirlwind, throws you around a bunch, and then leaves you wondering what the hell just happened. And no, it is not a love song!

The Danish metal acts dive into the metal scene has been both successful and hectic. Just a year after the release of their debut, they were offered supporting slots for both Metallica and Rammstein. Calyces Reveals Debut Album Details

Not many things are as exciting as new beginnings. Enter Calyces, the brand new Greek prog metal band, who have today released their single "The Great Void," taken from forthcoming debut LP "Impulse to Soar" (due for release 16th October.)

Fronted by ex-Tardive Dyskinesia vocalist Manthos Stergiou, Calyces are a new force on the Greek metal scene.

The soon-to-be-released "Impulse to Soar" blends prog metal in the way it was shaped through the 00’s, with the finest elements of classic progressive rock from the 70’s, but all with a very 2020 twist. Low-tuned heavy riffs meld with a barrage of polyrhythmic attacks, atmospheric passages, and full-on groove, melody, and energy. An enervating and invigorating first step on to the scene - a record that will add to the collections of all supporters of modern-age Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Intronaut, King Crimson, Baroness, Tool, Gojira.

Additional flair and artistry was provided by Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) with a saxophone solo on "Unfair Labour" and of Chrysa Tsaltampasi (Spineless, Bella Fuzz) with vocals on "Beyond Sight." Mastered by Grammy award-winning engineer, Alan Douches (Mastodon, Kvelertak, The Dillinger Escape Plan etc) "Impulse to Soar" was recorded in various studios around Athens with these carefully selected collaborators in order to achieve the band's desired natural, organic sound. Human substance intertwines with artistic complexity to create a thrilling and exhilaratingly impressive debut full-length.

A new vehicle has formed; a metaphor for rebirth and new shape of life. Calyces - the sepals that form a protective layer around a budding flower - is a fitting name for this most exquisite and yet powerful of groups. Forming in 2018, the quartet are made up of well-known Greek musicians, beyond Manthos: Alexis Stavropoulos (drums), Giannis Golfis (guitar) and Stelios Tragos (bass), all of them already key members in the bands Insect Radio and Revenge Of The Giant Face.

The stunning artwork for Impulse to Soar was painted by Maria Stergiou, the vocalist's sister. More...

Devin Townsend Posts New Live Video Online

Devin Townsend will release "Order Of Magnitude – Empath Live Volume 1" on the 23rd October 2020, a document of his Winter 2019 European tour that saw him taking on possibly his most ambitious live show to date.

Today sees the launch of the first clip from the release, and you can watch Devin and the Empath Volume 1 live band performing the track "Genesis" below.

Devin comments: "Here is the first song we’ve chosen to release from the upcoming DVD concert, ‘Order Of Magnitude’ which was the first volume of my Empath touring band cycle.

"This particular band consisted of ten people onstage, all without click tracks or backing tracks, with the aim of reproducing my work in a new and creative way. A lot of what I’ve done in the past has been very structured, and the opportunity to interpret the music with high degrees of improvisation and flow was a fantastic experience.

"This song, ‘Genesis’ from my latest album ‘Empath’ seemed an appropriate way to introduce this concert to the audience. It’s kind of an example of ‘musical anarchy’ in some ways- as the song is all over the place structurally to begin with. But to have a chaotic piece of music, played by these extraordinary musicians I had the honour of being with, in a no-holds-barred production, was really cathartic. It was about being free to do whatever we wanted in a time where rigid ideas of what is acceptable or not are stronger than ever.

"I hope you enjoy it. Volume 2 is next, and is in a lot of ways the polar opposite to this, but on my journey of musical exploration, I am grateful for all of it, so thanks again for the support." More...
