This week in the "....And Justice For Art" serial in Pure Grain Audio, writer Ramon Martos-Garcia tackles the artwork of Pantera circa the "Vulgar Display of Power" release and the stories behind its significance. The article talks about photographer Brad Guice, who did the imagery of the person being punched on the cover art.
Guice had produced campaign images for Coca Cola, editorials for Harper’s Bazaar, Interview Magazine and for artists like Sting, BB King and Prince, and was well-known for giving his images what he calls "a particular kind of movement" which made him the ideal candidate for the project. Years later during the release of the "Piss" track to the fans, the video paid homage to this cover in its images of fans getting clocked. Check out the full article at this location.

"Founded in 2010 in Iceland, Dynfari can be described as Atmospheric/Post-Black Metal. 'Sem Skugginn' is a highly dynamic and diverse concept album touching on the subject of humanity’s decline and human depravity in relation to the striking contrasts between how humanity is but a brief moment in history compared to the eternity that is the age of the universe.
"The diversity is personified with ambient sounds followed by blast beats, fast tempos by slow tempos, loudness by quiet and melancholy by hope…"

German act But We Try It, which recruited a new drummer earlier this year, has now issued the following announcement about finishing the writing process for a new album:
"Hey everybody, here's the big update from the BWTI headquarter. It was a bit silent the last weeks, but we're working hard. And now we have to announce some very interesting news.
"Last week we finished writing songs for the new album. We're pretty satisfied with the new material. Within the next weeks, we'll hit the studio and record all these tunes. Surely we'll keep you updated about the progress.
"The second great news is that we will play show again at the end of the year. For now we confirmed a show together with The Sorrow in Cologne at 11th of November. But there is more to come. Currently we're planing a Minitour for beginning of November. So this it is for now, but you'll hear from us soon!"

"The band consists of two musicians: Seirios (guitars, drums, production) and Vincent Venoir (keys). Aeonsphere means sphere is the illusion of time, to which we agree. It is the eternal pursuit and struggle with the ticking clock, doomed to failure. A submission to the routine, joining a collective mechanism. Our creation of the Aeonsphere project is, paradoxically, our breaking out of delusions and our way to extract the music without any deadlines, publishers or media promotion and consumerism." More...
Mike, Schmier, and Vaaver from German thrash act Destruction are currently in Gernhart Studios in Troisdorf with engineer Martin Buchwalter to record their new thrash hammer. The thirty year anniversary album will be mixed by Andy Classen. In addition, there have been guest visits from Mr. Tom Angelripper and Gerre from Tankard.
Mastermind Schmier commented: "For this anniversary album we did a really great job, our new drummer VAAVER opens up new possibilities of course. On this album there are no limits. So fast, brutal and yet groovy we haven't ever sounded, probably! Also the guest musicians are very special this time: with Gerre (TANKARD) and Tom Angelripper (SODOM) our old friends and companions are with us, the original 'Mad Butcher/Release from Agony' - line up is doing one song and with Ol Drake (EVILE) we got the hottest young thrash guitarist for a few solos on the album!
"Germany's best extreme metal producer Andy Classen will take care for the brutal and raw production! The album will destroy even more than DOR: fast riffs, double bass attacks and brutal groovy songs, I think this time we found the 100% right mix!
"Also the 'Mad Butcher' returns to the cover. Cool artworks are very important for us; for the new thrash thunderstorm our artist Gyula created a real hammer again! The artwork makes clear immediately where to go - FULL FORCE AHEAD - as it has to be."

Swedish Death Metal act Sorcery has inked a deal with Xtreem Music for the release of a second full length album. Xtreem Music comments:
"Formed back in 1985 and thus being one of the very first Swedish death metal bands, they released three demos in '87, '88 & '89, a 7"EP in '90 and an already classic album in 1991. The band split up in '97 and reformed in '09, recording two more demos before signing to Xtreem Music.
"Sorcery is currently working on a new album, over 20 years after the band's debut. Still untitled, it's being partly recorded with Tomas Skogsberg at Sunlight Studios, the same studio used in 1991 with 'Bloodchilling Tales.' Seven out of the nine songs on the album are brand new, written with the latest line-up consisting of original members Ola Malmström (vocals), Paul Johansson (guitar) and the two new members, John Falk (drums) and Mikael Carlsson (bass). The other two songs, 'Master of the Chains' and 'Maculated Life' were written during the bands earlier days and will perfectly link the old material with the new.
"Cover artwork for the new album is actually being drawn by renowned artist Daniel Devilish while the recording will be finished around November for an expected release in January 2013 on CD with vinyl version later on. In the meantime you can actually listen two new songs featured on the band's 'Warbringer' pre-production demo 2012 which are being re-recorded for the album with better sound, production and arrangements, will serve to hear what's coming!" Progressive extreme metal act Ne Obliviscaris has issued the following announcement about Dan Presland coming on as the band's drummer:
“It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that Dan Presland is returning as the drummer for Ne Obliviscaris.
"We would like to offer a huge thanks to Nelson Barnes, who did an incredible job in all the shows in the 6 months he was playing with Ne Obliviscaris. We’re sure that he’s headed for big things with his band ‘The Schoenberg Automaton’ and wish him all the best into the future. In the end, the decision to bring Dan back was less to do with Nelson and more to do with the fact that we never really wanted to part ways with Dan in the first place and have such great chemistry working together.
"Dan was our drummer from our early days, right up to and including the recording of Portal Of I, (2005-2011), and in the end an incredibly difficult year last year, where the whole future of the band was in doubt with Benji stuck in France and no clear future in sight, took it’s toll on everyone and Dan moving on was one of the results of that.
"For us, this feels a bit like getting back together with your ex-wife. We have such a long history together, so many great memories and much love for each other, and despite some ups and downs, everyone is as determined as ever to make it all work. Dan has already started rehearsing again with the band and will be playing drums on our upcoming Australian tour starting on September 7. We’ve also started writing material for album #2 already, and are incredibly excited about working together again and with the way the new material is coming along thus far. See you on tour!"

After a successful trek through Brazil with Immolition New York's Immolation as well as the European summer festival campaign, death metal pioneers Incantation have returned to the United States to finish work on their long-awaited eighth album.
Guitarist/vocalist John McEntee commented on the recent tour: "I would like to thank everyone on behalf of Incantation for making this festival run our most successful to date. To get the opportunity to play for so many diehard death metal fans was absolutely amazing. We are especially thankful to all our supporters for giving us a warm welcome at all the festivals, you guys were amazing and totally raging every day. Most of all we would like to thank Sam Inzerra [Mortician / Funerus] for doing a phenomenal job filling in for Kyle on drums. Without you this run would probably not be able to happen."
Bassist Chuck Sherwood added: "To the hoards of thousands that littered the fests of this past run. Old friends and new, brothers whom we shared a stage, and the unmatched support of the staff of each fest respectively. It's my hope that our performance reflected the metal rage that you gave us, Hails!'
The band has also revealed that their forthcoming release will be a concept album entitled "Vanquish in Vengeance." The album is expected to drop this November via Listenable Records.
McEntee comments on the album: "The title track is about the massacre of Saxons in the town of Verdun in 782, called on by order of King Charlemagne. As an album title it has a different meaning to me. Vanquish in Vengeance symbolizes the long history of the band. We have fought many battles over the years to keep things going. We have always stayed true to our original vision and have never caved into trends. After a long wait between albums we are back with a vengeance with some of our darkest and heaviest material to date."
