Baltimore-based audio/visual duo Darsombra will proudly play a free show this Saturday, August 24th, in full gratitude to the local scene for helping the band recover a huge arsenal of stolen equipment.
Following a recent break-in burglary of the Darsombra abode -- the thieves getting away with guitars, computers, amps, visual equipment and more -- the word made it to the proper parties in time and citizens/musicians/friends of the band helped track down and recover nearly all of the lost gear.
In a recent band newsletter, the members simply stated: "Watch out, world!!! This show is FREE because WE LOVE YOU and wanna say THANK YOU for all the love we received after our home was burglarized. So come on out and let us say it in person."
If you're in the area, please come celebrate the duo celebrate and give thanks. Darsombra will perform at Windup Space and will be joined by friends Yeveto, Height, and The Immortal Jellyfish.

Chicago's Of Glaciers has posted the following announcement online about deciding to call it quits:
"This is something I had no idea that I'd be typing this soon in my life. Yesterday the band came to a group decision that Of Glaciers has ran its course.
"Its not something we decided lightly or without a clear mindset. Members have decided to move on with their lives leaving multiple holes that cannot possibly be filled.
"I just want to take the time to personally thank all the fans, bands we've played with, people who have let us sleep on their floor, fed us, and let our music into their lives. Every single one of you have made this experience a life changing one. One we will never forget. So thank you."
Iron Bonehead Productions has announced October 1st as the release date for Crucifer's vinyl "Coffins Through Time...A Mourning in Nazareth." The following press release was issued:
"At long last, the entirety of Crucifer's recorded work during the dark, epochal 1990s is collected on double-LP vinyl. Entitled Coffins Through Time...A Mourning in Nazareth, this 2LP collection comprises Crucifer's four demos - Humans Are Such Easy Prey ('91), Crown of Thorns ('92), Unparalleled Majesty ('93), and By Disgrace of God ('93) - alongside their Powerless Against tape from '96 and the 'Trafficking With the Dead' split with Nunslaughter from '99.
"Long-running and well-respected in the metal underground, Crucifer perfected a twisted and morbid sort of death metal that maintained a blasphemous, blackened edge that band leader/founder Cazz Grant would then expand upon in UG legends Grand Belial's Key. Crucifer's lineups may have always been shifting, but their commitment to dark, deathly arts always remained firm, which can be heard in all evilness across Coffins Through Time...A Mourning in Nazareth, all of which has been powerfully remastered by P. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. Featuring a 16-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes, old photos, and flyers as well as an A2 poster and quintessential Chris Moyen cover art, this is the ultimate Crucifer collection and a tribute to ancient times."

"Having truly mastered the art of crafting sharp and incredibly loud dynamic noise, OvO's sound veers from bellyache sludge to simmering and shimmering compositions that ooze rock 'n' roll from punk-stained pores.
"Stay tuned for further OvO details in the coming weeks."
Loudwire is hosting a new track from "Vermis," the pending new album from Auckland, New Zealand's Ulcerate. Listen to the track below.
The fourth of the album's nine cataclysmic hymns, the volatile "Weight Of Emptiness" is its lengthiest, inundating the listener with over seven-and-a-half minutes of purely contorted, dissonant and suffocating death metal.

Sirius XM Radio announced today that Metallica will perform at Harlem’s Apollo Theater for the first time at a special invitation-only concert for SiriusXM subscribers on Saturday, September 21st at 8:30 pm ET.
Metallica will perform songs from the band's 30-plus year career, and the concert will air live nationwide on the band’s limited-run SiriusXM channel, Mandatory Metallica, days before the release of the upcoming 3D feature film "Metallica Through The Never," which will be released exclusively in IMAX theaters in North America on September 27th and wide on October 4th.
"With historic performances from James Brown to B.B. King to Ray Charles and all that came before us, this will definitely be a memorable night for Metallica, our fans and those listening on SiriusXM," said guitarist Kirk Hammett.
Bassist Robert Trujillo added, "With its rich musical history the Apollo Theater and its legacy are totally unparalleled and we can't wait to perform there this September."
“Metallica is a band of unquestioned influence, whose body of work spans decades and whose musical style is literally a music genre unto itself,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “We are so excited to bring this private performance only to our subscribers nationwide. Listeners will also have access to Mandatory Metallica, the channel we’ve created with the band to showcase their iconic music.” More...
Houston power rock/metal act Six Minute Century will release the new album "Wasting Time" on October 15th via Nightmare Records. Formed in the summer of 2004, the band has become one of the top power/prog bands in the area. Lead by guitarist Don LaFon (Krucible/Mystic Cross/Logan), the band fuses interesting rhythms with the grooves of more southern style metal and the soaring vocal melodies of Chuck Williams. Which in the end give you something sounding in the vein of Savatage/Dio/Kamelot, with the vocal style of Fates Warning/Dream Theater/TNT.
While all members of S.M.C. are technically proficient, the band does not fit the category of a band trying to impress with how many notes they can play. Rather Six Minute Century prefers to write songs with melody and most of all passion! Which has helped them garner a wider audience than many of today’s prog-metal bands. More...

The Death line up will consist of Sean Reinert (Cynic) - drums, Paul Masvidal (Cynic) - guitar, Steve DiGiorgio (Autopsy, Testament, Iced Earth) - bass, and Max Phelps (Cynic) - guitar & vocals. The set list will feature most of the songs from the "Human" album plus other Death classics.
In 1998, "The Sound Of Perseverance," the very last studio album of progressive death metal icons Death from Florida, saw the light of day. In 2001 charismatic band leader, guitar god, and sound pioneer Chuck Schuldiner tragically passed away. Many years later, the towering monolith of Chuck and Death's testimony hasn't even faintly started to crumble.
Direct support will come from German tech death heroes Obscura, who's singer/guitarist Steffen Kummerer was asked to be vocalist on the first Death-tribute shows in 2012, but couldn't take the job due to visa issues. Also on the tour will be Darkrise. More...
Good things come to those who wait, and those in Latin America have waited long enough. Nuclear Blast issued the following announcement about upcoming live shows from Meshuggah:
"Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in their career, Meshuggah headed to México and South America – home to some of the most passionate metal fans known to humanity. Exactly how passionate? Oh, you know… the kinds of fans who forsake eating and save their money for three months to buy one single concert ticket; the kind who sing guitar solos en mass out loud; the kind who rip out their own hair and leave it on the venue floor as offerings to the bands they love.
"What we’ve got here is what the National Weather Service states are the three necessary ingredients for a 'perfect storm:'
A) A flow of cool & dry air generated by a high-pressure system from one direction (i.e. MESHUGGAH)
B) A flow of warm air from a low-pressure system from another direction (i.e. México & South America)
C) Tropical moisture (i.e. the blood, sweat, and tears of joy courtesy of MESHUGGAH fans)
"Get ready for the experience of a lifetime. Following this landmark tour, Africa and Antarctica will be the only two remaining continents as-yet-physically-untouched by a live Meshuggah concert."

Check out the band's new music video for the track "Machine" after the jump, which was filmed live at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival in Detroit, MI.
Lee McKinney (guitars) states: “Wow, we recently wrapped up the RockStar Energy Mayhem Festival tour and this was one of the best summers of my life and easily my favorite tour we've ever done. Everything about the festival is so smooth and relaxed. We got to play to bigger crowds than ever, make new fans that wouldn't normally get to see us and we were out there playing new music from our new record. The whole summer just had so much excitement to it. The new material was going over insanely well, most of the time even better than our old material.
"The new disc, Tomorrow We Die Alive, to me is the record that we always should have put out. It has such a fresh and alive feeling to it. We had the live atmosphere in mind when we were writing it, too. I think for that reason this is gonna be the first record where people can come see us and hear a ton of new music. This record is just straight heavy beginning to end with some of my favorite melodic parts, and some of my favorite moods/atmospheres. I also really love what Ronnie and Joe are doing vocally with this one, it's been another great way to pack in as much melody and feeling as possible. We're getting ready for our CD release show at Reggie's in Chicago and it's impossible to decide which songs we are going to play off the new record because we want to play them all.
“Please go pick-up Tomorrow We Die Alive as we have never been more proud of anything we've created. We can't wait to hear what you all think of it and thanks for all of your continued support. See you all very soon." More...

We have so much to prove as a band! There's not just a chip on our shoulders; there's a giant cavity of pissed off emotions ready to snap at any moment. We are going to go out every single night and put it all on the line! If there is only the staff and the bands watching us, or if the show is sold out, we don't care! Every show is being played like it is our last chance of making our rock 'n' roll dreams come true. This tour is the first of many tours and the first of many large middle fingers to all of you that doubt Armed For Apocalypse! We are on a mission and the mission starts in Chico September 10th! See you on the road!" More...

With just under a month until Reading metalcore unit Her Dying Regret unleash "Legacy" to the world, the band has posted a track by track teaser. Check it out below.
Following debut EP "The Siren," the new release "Legacy" was recorded at Avenue Studios, Camberley with producer Daniel Kerr. “We want that to be a distant memory and for ‘Legacy’ to be what we're remembered for,” comments the band. "On ‘Legacy’ the lyrical content and vocal style is very different as we have two vocalists providing a new dynamic that allows us to be more creative and versatile, we've also taken some elements out of different sub genres of metal to fuse it with our own sound to create something different."
The album's track listing is as follows:
Tasmanian technical death metal legion Mephistopheles is pleased to unveil new track "Silver Doors" via Decibel Magazine. Check it out below.
Called "vicious, artful, and sonically different," the latest hell hymn comes by way of the band's forthcoming new full-length, "Sounds of the End," due out October 1st, 2013 via Willowtip Records.
Notes vocalist Matthew "Chalky" Chalk (formerly of Psycroptic) in anticipation of Sounds of the End: "I cannot wait to know what people think of this album. It's been ten fucking years since Psycroptic's Scepter of the Ancients, and this is my first album on which I've been lead vocalist since then. This is a very exciting time for me, the birth of a new era, and I think what Mephistopheles have achieved is every bit as fresh and compelling as SotA seemingly was back in 2003. The riffs, the instrumentation, the sound -- it's all fluent and multi-dimensional, and just waiting to bust its way out of some speakers and into the lives of as many metal loving maniacs as possible! It's our personal soundtrack to the Apocalypse. But it's not all doom and gloom. This is should probably be called Party of the End because musically, it's pretty upbeat."

Rhode Island doom disciples Pilgrim will enter the studio next month to record the follow-up to "Misery Wizard" (reviewed here), and the band will also return to Europe in November for a full tour with Windhand. Comments vocalist/guitarist The Wizard:
"THIS IS GOING TO BE A TOUR WORTHY OF SONG AND LEGEND. Not only is it our first lengthy European venture, but we get to share it with our incredibly talented friends WINDHAND (whose music we worship). This is honestly a dream come true for us. We are will be featuring a new bass player for the excursion, whose identity shall remain a mystery for the moment.

After months of announcements revealing guest appearances and teasers, Belgian based band Epysode has announced that the sophomore LP will be entitled "Fantasmagoria." The album drops on October 11th via AFM Records.
The successor to “Obsessions” was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen studio in Denmark. Beside band leader Samuel Arkan, the following vocalists and musicians have contributed to “Fantasmagoria”:
Tom S. Englund (Evergrey)
Henning Basse (Melium, Uli Jon Roth)
Ida Haukland (Triosphere)
Matt Marinelli (Borealis)
Tezzi Persson (Between The Silence)
Mike LePond (Symphony X)
Léo Margarit (Pain Of Salvation)
Julien Spreutels (Ethernity)
Simone Mularoni (DGM)
The unusual thing is that all these guests personally came to Noise Factory studio (Belgium) to record and track their own parts. As with many other projects, no one recorded his/her parts at home.
Arkan expalins: "I wanted the whole thing to get a real 'band' feeling, therefore having all vocalists and musicians here was very important to me. We got to know each other better and better while spending time together. The new material sounds very fresh, dark, heavy, modern and 'true' with 'straight in the face' guitar riffs, intense voices and melodies, massive work on progressive atmospheres and orchestral parts. All the artists who participated in this album gave their soul to it, gave their best, they travelled deeper into sensitivity and sincerity. That's probably the best words which define 'Fantasmagoria'... sincerity & spontaneity ! This album comes from the heart of each musician and vocalist who worked on it, and you can feel it when you listen to this new EPYSODE album.” More...

Brimming with confidence and justifiable pride legendary Dutch hard rock band Vengeance has announced the release of their latest album "Piece Of Cake." The album will be issued on October 25th (Germany), October 28th (EU) and November 5th (North America) via SPV/Steamhammer.
Gutarist Timo Somers (Delain) explains: "People can expect what to my ears is the best Vengeance album to date. The songs are a nice blend of old school Vengeance (think 'Arabia') and some more modern sounding songs. This time the instrumental side of the band is really outspoken, it features a lot of nice intros, solos and instrumental pieces. And to top it off, Leon sounds better than ever."
Somers promises eleven gripping new compositions: "'Raintime' is the fastest song on the album. The song kind of sounds like a Malmsteen song with Leon on vocals. Double bass, big chorus and a fast guitar solo are the keywords."
The most typical song is the title track "Piece Of Cake." Somers again: "We needed a party song for the album and we wrote this together in about an hour in the studio. It`s this typical AC/DC thing with Leon going nuts and some Van Halen like guitars."
As for the album's most unusual song "Back To Square One," a blues rock ballad in the vein of Gary Moore, Somers says: "I don't think a lot of people know this side of Vengeance, but it showcases our more soulful side." More...

Volturyon has checked in with the following announcement about recruiting a new bassist:
"We are happy to announce that Tim Scott is Volturyon's new bass player. Tim has been a friend of the band for many years and we're very glad to have him onboard.
"Tim grew up in Northern California and the Bay Area thrash scene. By the age of 16 Tim had already played in various hardrock/metal bands before moving to the New York City area. There Tim found a thrash band Parasyte and quickly made contacts in the New York/ New Jersey underground metal scene including Henry Veggian and John MacEntee of Revenant. In 1987 Tim was asked to join Revenant and the then new started death metal revolution.
"Over the years with Revenant, Tim played shows with and toured with such bands as Morbid Angel, Gorefest, Napalm Death and Cannibal Corpse to name only a few. Revenant disband in 1994 and Tim decided to take his bass to Florida and the then exploding South Florida death scene, there he teamed up with Phil Faciana (Malevolent Creation ) and Rob Barret (Cannibal Corpse) creating a Grind band called HatePlow. In 1999 Tim left HatePlow and moved to Sweden.
"In Sweden Tim has kept himself involved with the music scene as promoter and metal disc jockey. The addiction of playing music has never left him and in 2011 Tim started Margrave with friends Torbjörn Bryndel(Insision) and Henke Östensson (The Ugly) , that culminated in an EP 'Acid Spell' TBR 2013/14 on Bifrost records.
"Tim is also trying his hand as vocalist in Methane. A venture with Jimi Masterbo (Hell Patrol) that is testing new demensions of the Southern Metal / Groove metal genre."
