In 2011, Australia’s Dragonsclaw made its mark on the traditional metal scene with the debut release “Prophecy.” However, coming from near geographic isolation, the band has faced an uphill climb to make a name for itself, even in the band’s own country. Through all the adversity, the band launched an internet campaign to release “Prophecy” and has seen steady worldwide attention since. Now, they are set to release an extended single this fall (“Judgement Day”) and a following up with the sophomore full length release in 2013.
Your author was afforded the opportunity to hear the demos for the upcoming EP and what they present is a more mature and progressive sound that builds on the successes of the first release. Singer Giles Lavery still hits the rafters, but introduces a lower end that really shows the true range of his vocals. The songs are longer, more progressive, but never lose sight of the band’s overall sound of traditional metal. Where “Judgement Day” retains the direction of “Prophecy,” “Eternally” and “Fear” are the most complete songs the band has written, incorporating keyboard work and epic themes giving the band an early Crimson Glory feel.
Vocalist Giles Lavery spoke with Metal Underground.com to unveil some of the details of what is in store for Dragonsclaw this fall and in 2013. The band is ready to dig in its claws, determined to leave a bigger impression on the metal scene. More...
When your band's initials are T.H.C. and you've got an album named "Rollin," it's pretty clear what direction your music is heading towards. But no one could mistake front man Bid Dad Ritch and his Texas Hippie Coalition as actually being a hippie commune out to spread the love, as new album "Peacemaker" is just as much about being an outlaw as it is about the sex and drugs - but more importantly, it's about the rock and roll!
Whether you want to call it "red dirt metal," "Southern fried Texas rock," or just "something to listen to while smoking up," T.H.C. combines a little of everything for a rock/metal melting pot that garners fans from across the musical spectrum. To find out more about the new album, what T.H.C. will be doing to celebrate the month of April 2020, and the band's "rough" process for writing new songs, check out the full interview with Big Dad Ritch below. As I Lay Dying just completed a video for the new single "A Greater Foundation." The group teamed with director Drew Russ (A Day To Remember, Falling In Reverse) and producer Robby Starbuck for the performance-based clip, which was shot on location in Los Angeles. "We were all impressed with Drew's ability to capture the intensity of live band performances in his videos, and 'A Greater Foundation' is no exception, explains bassist Josh Gilbert. " Drew's technique, along with the all-day participation of some of our diehard fans in Los Angeles, definitely accentuated the energy of the song and makes for an exciting and dynamic video. We can't wait to unveil it!"

“The cover is something completely different than the last cover,” states the band. “Our goal was that both the title and the cover would sum up the feeling of the album. And just to make things clear, Lights Out is not a reference to either UFO or Entombed… even though both are excellent bands.” More...
Footage has been posted online, courtesy of YouTube user Livebands2010, of Randy Blythe from Lamb of God joining Prong for a cover of the Misfits track "London Dungeon." The video, available below, was recorded at the Knotfest in Somerset, Wisconsin. As Randy Blythe puts it, "this song is about being in prison in a foreign country."
Blythe was recently released from the Czech Republic after being held for over a month due to charges of manslaughter. The charges stem from a 2010 incident when a 19 year old fan was allegedly pushed off the stage and subsequently died several weeks later. At this point it is not yet clear if Randy will have to stand trail and when that trial might be held.

After tasting blood at the local date of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival earlier this season, underground metal monsters A Band of Orcs have succeeded in storming the gates of the last date of the Summer Slaughter Tour on August 25th at the Grove of Anaheim. Also playing are Cannibal Corpse, Between The Buried And Me, The Faceless, Periphery, Veil Of Maya, Job For A Cowboy, Goatwhore, Exhumed, and Cerebral Bore.
This represents a step forward for the orcs in their attempt to bring about the Domination, the orc-style ear-drum apocalypse of your frail human realm. Southern California metalheads who want to attend the show should plan on showing up early to catch A Band of Orcs (1:30pm PST) as they claw their way to the top of the metal heap while adding more heads to the pile.
Following up on 2007's "WarChiefs of the Apocalypse" EP (reviewed here), A Band of Orcs has a new full-length album due out soon, with the release date now pushed back to the end of September. When asked about the delay, bass player and shaman for the band, Gronk!, had this to say, "Us get put behind when us decided to join battle for Mayhem and play some other dates in July. Us live for live raids! But Gogog and us finish brutal vocals last week. Now, audio sorcerer need time to mix magic. All powerful sorcery take time. Hail Gzoroth!!!"
By audio sorcerer, Gronk! means engineer/producer Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios in Pacheco, CA whose most recent credits include chart-busting albums like Machine Head's "Unto the Locust" and Testament's "Dark Roots of the Earth."
The A Band of Orcs Summer Slaughter set will include several tracks from the forthcoming album
"Adding Heads to the Pile," including the latest single released through Itchy Metal Entertainment entitled "In the Keeper's Chamber."

Toronto's Mastery has issued the following announcement about lineup changes within the band and releasing a new album:
"To many this may come as a surprise. Unfortunately we were forced to go through some major line-up changes in the past few months.
"We simply exhausted our efforts to make the long distance relationship in band between Mike and I who live in Canada and Billy, Tank and Kelly, who are in Texas, work. It was just logistically not feasible anymore. But the absolute amazing result that comes out of the collaboration of all of us is the new album 'IN THE KEY OF KILL.'
"And yes... we’re still waiting on specifics as to when this album will finally see the light of day…so please hang in there, you won’t be disappointed!!!
"In the meantime we want to take the opportunity to introduce the new members with Anthony Tuttolomondo on vocals and Oscar Rangel on bass guitar. But what’s even more exiting is that we decided not to wait any longer and start with live shows ASAP! We’re booking Southern Ontario right now, so keep checking back for dates!!"

Yonkers, New York-based technical death/grind legends Malignancy are pleased to unleash their latest slab of sonic bestiality in the form of "Eugenics." Set to be unearthed in North America on October 9th, 2012 through Willowtip Records, "Eugenics" was recorded throughout 2010 - 2011 by Eliot Gellar at the Gellar Cellar Studio in Mahopac, New York, mixed and mastered by Luca Minieri at Dissonant Studio in Aosta, Italy and features the cover art of Justin Osbourn of Slasher Designs.
Loosely based around the concept of eugenics — defined as “the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, especially by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics)” — the band’s third full-length hurls forth 10 mercilessly brutal hymns of technically proficient audio carnage.
Elaborates the band in a collective statement: “Eugenics is a culmination of Malignancy past and present with a hint of what's to come in the future. Recording the new tunes with a click track was a totally new experience.”

Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week, we'll weigh in on the scene around Boston, Massachusetts.
Boston has been my home all my life. Back in 2006 when I first started Nefarious Realm Productions, I worked with local bands, promoting and booking shows. It set the foundation of what NRP is today. Boston has an unbelievable scene spanning all genres. Most people only think of the heavy weights like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, fast-rising Revocation, etc., but there lies a wealth of bands that are just mind-blowing. Lunglust, Ramming Speed, Sexcrement, The Summoned, Abnormality, Dysentery, Phantom Glue, Give Zombies The Vote, Morne, Sonic Pulse... I could go on and on but Metal Underground.com has limited me to three, and I'm going to span the sub-genres here. Hang on to your pants, you're going for a ride!
This "dance metal" outfit is sure to get you moving, that be breaking' faces or shakin' your booty. Each member brings distinct influences to the table, fusing elements of death metal, groove metal, hardcore, and electronica. Think of Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Bury Your Dead, and The Browning all smashed together.
The five-piece brings quite a live show with their stage antics and their "have fun" attitude. Widow Sunday just recently released a new EP earlier this summer and are already writing for a followup full length to their 2010 debut, 'In These Rusted Veins.' Below is a video for "Blood Money" from 'ITRV' and a live clip of "The Wave" which appears on the new EP, 'Dance Metal." For more on the band, check out their Facebook.
