San Diego act Cage is returning to the stage from an 18 month hiatus with an all new lineup. This long running heavy metal band of 21 years re-emerges with original members Sean Peck and Dave Garcia and three new additions.
First is Sean Elg, drummer from So Cal thrasher Nihilist. "This guy doesn’t stop! He is a machine!" says Dave Garcia. "He has played literally thousands of shows and just loves metal. We dig that about him."
Next up is Dwight Magic, bass player from the band Detonated. "He plays a six string fretless bass and has committed his soul to that instrument and the art of metal itself I tell you! He is by far the most skilled guy we have ever had at the position and is a great writer too," says Peck. More...
The 2013 Summer Slaughter tour wraps up in a few days, but Revocation won't be sitting still for long, trekking to Europe in September and then heading out on a tour with Death Angel this coming October.
While Revocation was on the road, the band's new self-titled album officially dropped, and I called up guitarist Dan Gargiulo to see what he had to say about the release.
A transcription of our conversation can be found below, covering the writing and recording process, working with the band's new bassist, and recording a Metallica cover.

Pitch Black Records announces the addition of Norway’s Ghost Avenue (formerly known as Ghost, and not be confused with the Swedish act of the same name which has now changed names to Ghost B.C.) to its roster of artists and the release of the band’s (self-titled) second album. Pitch Black comments:
"Formed in 2002, Ghost Avenue quickly managed to fine-tune their sound and gain a massive fan base after many live shows and some great reviews on their 2010 debut. Offering a unique blend of classic hard rock and 80’s heavy metal and despite the obvious preference for the classics, the band manages to achieve a contemporary sound with music that’s full of melody and catchy tunes.
"The musicianship is excellent throughout the album and there’s no doubt that Ghost Avenue's hard rocking metal sound will make anyone head bang over and over again! The album is superbly mixed and mastered by Vagelis Maranis at Maranis Studios in Germany."
The band commented on signing with Pitch Black Records: "We are stoked to be joining forces with Pitch Black Records and have high hopes for our future relationship. Being a passionate, hardworking, down to earth label with focus on great music without worrying too much about specific genres, Pitch Black seemed like a perfect match for Ghost Avenue. We have got a killer album ready and can’t wait to start working with Pitch Black to get our music out to the masses!”
“Ghost Avenue” will be released worldwide on October 8th, 2013 on CD and digital through Pitch Black Records and a song taken off the album is now available for free download and streaming below: More...

This week, West of Hell buys some special road pies (delicious) and demonstrates the sheer amount of butt sweat that drummer Andrew generates while sitting on his drum stool.
The full tour will run through September 7th back in Vancouver, which will be zombie-themed in celebration of the band’s recent music video for "Water of Sorcery." Marking the band’s only appearance in Vancouver in 2013, the band will perform in full professional zombie make-up with special FX. Remaining dates on the tour include:
8/15 – Red Deer, AB @ The Vat
8/16 - Medicine Hat, AB @ Liquid Night Club

Toronto’s thrash party monsters Fatality are currently on the two-month North American “Towards Disastour” in support of latest album, "Psychonaut."
Vocalist Spencer Le Von checks in again, this time telling us all about reuniting with California’s Zombie Holocaust. Excerpts are available below, or you can check out the full road report via Dead Rhetoric here.
"After our gig in Pensacola, we had a good long drive ahead of us. We were to drive into Houston and pick up our friends in ZH [Zombie Holocaust] the following morning around 11AM because they were to join us in our tour van and play gigs with us for the next 3 weeks (that’s right, 10 dudes in an 11 seat van). They were taking a two day bus ride from sunny California to Texas and that meant in order to meet them at the Greyhound station, we would have to drive all night long to prepare for our gig at the White Swan. We fueled up with some pancakes and hit the Florida highway at around 4AM.
"Night drives are absolutely horrendous and I hate them like I hate being stabbed in the ass with the butt-end of a goalie stick. First of all, it is very uncomfortable to drive while you are tired but it’s also near impossible to get any rest in the bench seats while the tour van cascades towards its destination in the dead of night. So you are damned either way. We made it into town and illegally parked in a lot next to the Houston Greyhound station and waited in red-eyed anticipation in the mid-afternoon sun for our California rock star buddies to pull into town.
"I was relieved when they arrived and looked even worse than we did. They had a dreadful and uncomfortable 48 hours in a bus, all with different sets of stories including almost getting kicked off mid trip with all of their gear on the side of the road. Even though we hadn’t seen each other in 2 years, everyone was dead tired and a little dazed from exhaustion. We went for burritos and blinked at each other in restive stillness for 3 or 4 hours until we were set to play. Despite the mutual fatigue, we both played crushing sets to an enthusiastic crowd of young headbangers. The crowd was so rowdy that a fight even broke out during one of the sets." More...

The biggest, sickest, most debauched party of the summer is just days away! That's right, Slave Pit Inc and your Lords and Masters GWAR are counting down the hours until the 4th Annual GWAR-B-Q.
The mighty GWAR will once again be headlining the event, and will of course feature songs from new album "Battle Maximus." The event will be held Saturday August 17th at Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, VA. The event will be held RAIN OR SHINE. Nothing short of nuclear holocaust can stop GWAR, and even that is highly debatable…the GWAR B-Q is on, NO MATTER WHAT!!!
As a special treat for the human scum, Oderus Urungus has decided to give fans another taste of what they can expect from Battle Maximus. GWAR has teamed up with Vice to drop the next tasty morsel from "Battle Maximus" on your pointy little heads. Check out "Bloodbath" below.
Although he is deep in preparations trying to find enough "crackahol" (Oderus' new favorite drug, a mixture of booze and crack) to get through the weekend, Oderus would never pass up a chance to rant about a new song and the GWAR-B-Q:
"Bloodbath is a catchy little ditty straight from Scumdog City, with a sound reminiscent of past GWAR thrash-ter-pieces like Jack the World or Happy Death Day, yet completely different. It also features a ripping lead from new Scumdog Pustulus Maximus that is sure to melt your eardrums…lyrically it is a rumination on the inevitability of death for you mortals, and how you should not fear this…for death at the hands of GWAR is the most liberating experience you can ever have, especially in our Meat Grinder!" Australia's Death Audio has checked in with the following announcement about splitting with the band's drummer:
"Hey everyone its Will here. It took me a long time to come up with this status, but then I thought it was best to just speak the truth. The reason it took me a while to write this is because Karl has decided to part ways with Death Audio. He was not only a drummer to me, but he was a brother. Someone I would take a bullet for. I do wish the best for Karl, and for him to succeed in his future musical projects. Death Audio will be holding auditions for drummers as of next week. So if you think, you got what it takes, hit me up on email@example.com." More...

Resurrected cult classic act Toxik has announced that Ralph Santolla (ex-Death, Obiturary, Deicide) will now be a part of the band’s ranks. Josh Christian, founding member and lead guitarist comments on Ralph’s addition:
"Ralph was the first choice. I had talked to other friends about tour spots and playing as guests, but the new material is pretty deep arrangement wise and complicated in its layering. We need that second voice on the instrument. Ralph’s experience level is top-shelf, plus he has a very diverse musical approach. Sure he’s played great heavy music with legendary bands and artists but, he also has an amazing ear for melody. The guy can really play! Most of all he’s a brother, Ralph Santolla and I go way back, I can remember Chuck Schulinder [Death] sitting in the lounge at Morrisound watching Ralph and I trading ideas and saying: 'You guys should play together.' So, with Chuck’s blessings I think the next album just took a giant leap for mankind." More...
Floridian psychedelic noise act Orbweaver recently dropped the brain-fraying "Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon" EP upon unsuspecting masses.
Christened "twitchy, trippy tech death" by Invisible Oranges, the five-track "Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon" is a harrowing, multifaceted sound voyage through modulating realities recorded at Miami's Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of Torche and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliot at Mana Recording Studios (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed).
The band has now released a new tripped out video for "Tragic Orbit: A Doomed Cosmic Star Ship." Check it out below.

Everyone loves free music, including Broken Hope! Today, the band is sharing a brand new track with fans, cut from upcoming album "Omen Of Disease," out October 1st on Century Media Records.
The track, entitled "Ghastly," is available for free download now at the official Century Media website here. Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner says:
"I'm really excited to have ‘Ghastly’ released as a free download for the world - our gift to you. I have to say, ‘Ghastly’ is one of my favorite tracks from the Omen Of Disease album! As I wrote the music on this song, I took riffs I'd been saving for a while, combined them with new death metal ideas, and sewed the whole thing together to make for one of our sickest and most relentless musical tracks. Lyrically, I wrote about an unfortunate person who was born so physically repulsive from head-to-toe/inside-and-out, that the mere sight of the hideous form could almost blind and nauseate you. Like a Gorgon, but even more horrific. Hence the line: 'Ghastly...a horrid blight upon the eyes.' With ‘Ghastly’ and ‘The Flesh Mechanic’, I think these tunes will give everyone a good idea of what to expect from the entire Omen of Disease album. Enjoy!" More...
"As To Sail Black Waters," the debut full-length from Oakland, California's six-piece progressive doom ensemble Secrets of the Sky nears release early this Autumn, today the outfit unveils another colossal track from the expansive album through a new lyric video for "Sunrise."
Check it out below. Stated SOTS guitarist/keyboardist Clayton Bartholomew of the track: "We are proud to be releasing the lyric video for the song 'Sunrise.' The video was put together by vocalist Garett Gazay, and he used imagery that he felt best conveyed his lyrical content and theme for the song. We think it turned out nicely and summarizes the metaphorical concepts laid out by the lyrics. Enjoy!"
Secrets of the Sky also recently completed a first official video for the album's crushing "Decline," set for release in the coming days. For now, the audio of the track is playing right here.
Italian metal label Kolony Records will release "To Sail Black Waters" throughout Europe on October 4th and 5th, and in North America on October 8th. More...

Montreal, QC based metal band Dissension is proud to announce the upcoming release of debut album "Of Time And Chronic Disease" digitally worldwide on September 10th through Believe Digital, along with a vinyl version. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Sharing the stage with international heavyweights like Tyr, Threat Signal and Cryptopsy plus performing in front of their hometown crowd at Heavy MTL 2011 along with recently being finalists at Wacken Metal Battle Canada, Dissension's eclectic mix of thrash, black and power metal attacks the darker side of human nature, reaching epic heights and somber depths. Their debut's ten brutal assaulting tracks were produced by Kevin Jardine of Uplift Productions, (Slaves on Dope, What Comes To Life, One) and mastered by Ryan Morey (Arcade Fire, Priestess, Half Moon Run).
Dissension is now streaming their first single off the debut below."
Vocalist / guitarist Nathan Afilalo comments: "Having been a band for about six years, we have long anticipated the great day where we could let our music take flight upon the winds of the world. With that in mind, Of Time and Chronic Disease is a summation of our music since it contains some of our very earliest songs to some of our latest. The album has to be taken as a whole, as the individual songs all represent a different facet of the whole that is our music. It's like a hydra, the beast can only truly be slain if you remove all of its heads and immerse yourself in the dark pools of its blood." More...

It is the perfect marriage of punk angst and metal guitar hooks. If there's one thing the punks and the heshers will agree on in 2013, it's that Toxic Holocaust's Chemistry of Consciousness is a rager of a record destined to top any worthwhile best of 2013 list. After dropping off a U.S. tour due to visa issues, Irish thrashers Gama Bomb have announced details of a headlining U.K. tour for January 2014.
The dates, which kick off in Cardiff on January 28th and end in Brighton on February 2nd, will see Gama Bomb take to the stage with support from Liverpool crossover skate-thrashers SSS.
“It’s been too long since we toured the UK,” says singer Philly Byrne. “I feel like the UK is the place where we earned our stripes as a band, doing tours on public transport and sleeping on floors back in the day. It’s going to be great to come back and catch up with all the ragers there.”
The announcement comes hot on the heels of Gama Bomb’s main stage set at the UK’s Bloodstock Festival last weekend.
“Bloodstock was a real eye-opener for us,” says Byrne. “We were surprised by many people were there to see us, who came to the show and hung out after. So naturally we’re really stoked to have this UK tour coming up so we can do it all again. And we’re doing it with SSS, who we’ve been friends with since way back. It’ll be nice to tour with people who share our interest in dodgy films and desserts.” More...

Paradise Lost's Aaron Aedy (guitar) comments: "The years surrounding our formation in the 20th century would have earmarked this as a B-sides collection. These were the songs that were left over from an album recording session you couldn't fit on to the sound quality restrictive, optimal length of both sides of a vinyl LP. You then usually used these for the flip side of your single as a nice extra for fans and also perhaps, as an incentive for the collectors to purchase to help any important charting or sales which could facilitate radio airplay, the best and most important way for your band to heard at that time. Yes my friends, it's hard to imagine now, there was a time before the internet! More...

The upcoming Rommelrock festival, which was to take place Friday and Saturday in Maasmechelen, Belgium, was cancelled. According to the promoters, the mayor of the town enforced a decision made back in May, in which he refused to issue a permit on the grounds that that the festival would cause unsafe conditions.
The announcement reads: "To our greatest regret, Rommelrock is forced to cancel the whole event. Seven years of intense labour, the spotless reputation, legal terms and liberties, in vain... Two court sessions made little difference... [The] mayor steps in to enforce the prohibition to organize Rommelrock, refuses to issue a license to permit Rommelrock 2013... such an improbable tale, as the decision of the Maasmechelen mayor made on May 13, 2013, is maintained, on so-called grounds of safety and public order... A boiling cauldron that spawned the anti-rommelrock story!
"Despite all the efforts taken and the fact we have the law and justice at our side according to the law and the constitution itself, the struggle ended in the worst possible way, forcing us to pull the plug out of this year's Rommelrock.
"We wish to express our deepest respect to all that supported us, and we apologize in the same time to all that suffered because of all this, despite all perseverance and tenacity.
We never wanted to see Rommelrock 2013, a special edition with exclusive shows and such, to end in this way."
Among the acts that were scheduled to perform: Therion, Civil War, Haggard, Morton, Tokyo Blade, Furyon, Dragonsfire, Sound Storm, Pursuing the End, Lord Volture, Iron Fate, Black Widow and Weeping Silence. More...

"From Adelaide, Australia! In the Burial one of the few new additions to the PRC label! This is extreme and I know, not for everybody! This song is taken from the band's first album coming out sometime in October and is not showcasing the new and final mix which is a monster. Be on the look out for all the details about the album very soon!"
