Canadian melodic death metallers Laika have issued a statement regarding last month's ill-fated Laikaruptour 2012 with tech deathers Abhorupt, which saw the band stranded outside Vancouver, BC for several days due to vehicle issues. Vocalist Jordan Dorge comments:
"We are back safe and sound from tour, it was a rocky one but we kept our spirits up. First we would like to thank all the promoters, bands and fans for making this tour possible. We unfortunately only got to complete 3 of the 8 shows we had booked out west. Our van broke down 3 hours outside of Vancouver. We were super crushed as we were looking forward to hitting Vancouver again and the rest of the dates.
We got it towed to a nearby town and they helped us get to Kamloops where we waited for the van to get fixed up. Other than the blown transmission we had a successful tour, showed fans a little taste of new material and got our new guitarist worked into the tour life. We are already making plans as your reading this to make up for the lost dates, so stay tuned. See the tour video below to witness the journey we had!"
Check out that Laikaruptour 2012 video below. Back at home, Laika is preparing to hit the studio with engineer Ryan Forsyth to record the long overdue follow up to 2010's "Crafting the Cataclysm." To help fund the album, entitled "Somnia," Laika has launched an IndieGoGo campaign, which you can go to at this location.

Blackguard is hard at work on pre-production for the band's fourth album "Storm." Vocalist Paul Zinay comments:
"Hey everyone! We are currently hard at work and pre-production is coming along very nice. Everyone here is ecstatic over the material we have. Our new guitarist Louis is a riff machine and working his ass off to help make this the best Blackguard album to date. The writing process this time around is unlike anything we’ve done before. In the past, one or two people would make up the vast majority of material for the album. This time, however, everyone is contributing ideas and music and the results are beyond my expectations.
"We will be heading into studio in September to start tracking and we’re hoping to have the record out in early 2013. Lyrically, I’m taking a step into new territory by trying my hand at writing a concept album. This won’t be as intricate or vast as 'The Emerald Sword saga' or 'The Metal Opera,' but this will be an exciting and new challenge for me nonetheless.
"That’s it for now. We’ll try to update everyone as often as possible. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for some exciting tour news that will be announced in the coming weeks. Cheers!" More...

Today Sky of Rage is premiering a track from debut album "SOR." The song "Countdown" can be streamed here courtesy of Noisecreep. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"In the autumn of 2009 the two old friends Tomas Friberg and Joachim Nordlund were listening to old school heavy metal. After that, they decided to write some songs together. A couple of hours (and beers) later the first song had seen its light.
"After a couple of months a few songs were written and the duo decided that they needed a singer for the project. Both wanted a singer that could both growl and sing with a more clean voice because they thought the songs needed that kind of approach. His name is Staffan Carlsson. Staffan worked with some of the already written songs and started to work with the vocals and lyrics right away. It took a while for Staffan to feel comfortable with this kind of heavy metal, but when he had nailed two or three songs they all knew that they had found a unique sound.
"As the songwriting process continued, guitarist Janne Cederlund (ex. Thalamus), an ambitious was the next to join the band. Finding a bass player seemed to be a bit harder for the band, until one night in the spring of 2011 when Joachim was out he met Mika Itäranta. Mika had left Astral Doors two years ago and now he had the drive to get back into Rock and Roll again. The band was now complete. More...

Ottawa’s own maniacal ‘violent death metal' masters Accursed Spawn have released their first-ever video for the song "Dismember the Informant" from the group's 2010 demo. The video, created by singer Luke Wargasm, features a collage of war footage from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The video can be viewed below. Accursed Spawn also commented:
“We’ve always been a DIY band, so I thought to myself, why the fuck not just make our own video? I thought the war footage was a perfect match, given of course the lyrical content of the song, but also the gritty atmosphere it portrays. All the footage used was filmed by actual soldiers themselves, making it a bit lo-fi, but I think this gives the video a powerful feel. I mean common, the sight of neon green night vision while fireballs light up in the sky over baghdad during a guitar solo? What more could you want!"
The band is currently gearing up for live performances, having spent much of the summer writing new material following the release of "Engendering a Sociopath" in early 2012 during a short stint with New York legends Malignancy.
