Progressive drone project Blackwolfgoat is the solo vessel of guitarist Darryl Shepard (Black Pyramid, The Scimitar, Hackman, Milligram, Roadsaw) specializing in looped guitar movements, building and layering upon each other to create compositions of dense distortion and delicate lines, as well as purely ambient pieces.
Shepard’s Blackwolfgoat will unleash a brand new full-length entitled "Drone Maintenance" on August 26th via Small Stone. As a precursor to its unveiling, Cvlt Nation is currently streaming second track, “Notausgang.” Give it a listen below.
Comments Shepard: “‘Notausgang’ is a psychedelic guitar freak-out, definitely different from anything Blackwolfgoat has done before. It was inspired by bands like Guru Guru and Ash Ra Tempel, German bands from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s who had lots of crazy guitar stuff going on in their songs. And Jimi Hendrix too, there’s definitely some Hendrix influence in there as well. It’s basically just a straight up guitar freak-out.” More...

As Philadelphia's hypershred-grinders in Die Choking prep their second 7" for public infiltration this September 29th, today Noisey.Vice.com breaks off the first chunk off of the EP and rams it into humanity's collective jugular.
Choke on "Non-Yielder" below. The track leads of the "II" EP and was created in retaliation to mankind's self-serving, egocentric ways, as an outcry to never give up against the suffocating amount of bullshit we're dealt each day.
The fifty-one second destroyer features guest vocals by Steve Jansson from Trench Rot/Unrest, and just like its lyrical intent, yields for absolutely nothing. You can also catch the band live on these dates:

Six-headed death machine Aversions Crown has signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment for the release of "Tyrant."
Formed in 2010 in Queensland’s Brisbane, Aversions Crown developed a pummeling blend of mechanized brutality and haunting atmospherics by utilizing three guitarists brandishing 8-string guitars.
"Tyrant," the follow-up to the band’s 2011 debut "Servitude," was created in the oppressive heat of Brisbane’s summer with Thy Art Is Murder'ss Andy Marsh producing and Mark Lewis of Audio Hammer mixing.
With a thematic fixation on dystopian nightmares and hostile extraterrestrial encounters, the relentless barrage Aversions Crown churns out across these ten songs will soundtrack either a solid Halo session or a coming invasion. The striking artwork was created by Pär Olofsson.
Commented guitarist Chris Cougan on the band’s union with Nuclear Blast Entertainment: “A nuclear blast is pretty much what happened to my mind when I found out the label was interested in Aversions Crown. Nuclear Blast are the pinnacle of metal labels. We couldn’t be more stoked.”
The late 2014 impact of "Tyrant" will follow the viral success of the album’s first video "Hollow Planet," which was originally self-released as a stand-alone single and can be seen below. More...
After reuniting last year, California hardcore/thrash metal crossover act Excel has since teamed up with Southern Lord for a forthcoming reissue of the debut album, "Split Image."
Originally released in 1987 through Suicidal and Caroline Records, "Split Image" was produced by Randy Burns (Death, Possessed, Megadeth, Kreator, Suicidal Tendencies). The reissue of the album will now be officially re-released in North America on September 30th.
Remastered by Brad Boatright (Bl'ast!, Sleep, Obituary, Black Breath) the Southern Lord issue of "Split Image" comes with a massive amount of bonus material including the "Welcome to Venice" comp tracks, "Personal Onslaught" demo, and the "Refuse to Quit" demo.

The CD contains bonus demo material, including the "Personal Onslaught" and "Refuse to Quit" demos, as well as a booklet with many rare and unseen photos. The track listing is: More...
Machine Head will release eighth full-length album and Nuclear Blast Entertainment debut "Bloodstone & Diamonds" this Fall.
The record was once again produced by Robb Flynn himself and Juan Urteaga, and like the last 7 out of 8 albums, was mixed by Colin Richardson. Additional tracking, editing, and mixing was done with heavy metal legend Andy Sneap and Steve Lagudi.
“I cannot even begin to tell you how proud we are of this album,” comments frontman Robb Flynn. “It's been a heck of a ride. It looked like it might not ever happen again at one point, but man, this album is a milestone for us. You're going to love it Head Cases.
“Without getting too philosophical on ya, bloodstone and diamonds represent two of the hardest materials on earth, it is also a lyric from the opening track of the album ‘Now We Die’. In many cultures the bloodstone has been used as an amulet to protect against evil, and is the symbol of justice. Diamonds and are hardest natural material on earth (which is how we feel about our music), and it also represents the diamond logo I drew 22 years ago (in my wife's apartment on Dover St. in Oakland) that has become the symbol for the band.”
The track listing is as follows:
1. Now We Die
2. Killers & Kings
3. Ghosts Will Haunt My Bones
4. Night Of Long Knives
5. Sail Into The Black
6. Eyes Of The Dead
7. Beneath The Silt
8. In Comes The Flood
9. Damage Inside
10. Game Over
11. Imaginal Cells (instrumental)

Having shattered legs and various other limbs with a pioneering style of slam since the early '90s, New York death metal band Internal Bleeding is preparing to initiate it's latest offensive with the release of "Imperium" on September 30th (the band's first release in nearly a decade).
"Imperium" was produced by the band alongside Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studio (Suffocation, Dehumanized, Mortal Decay) in Ronkonkoma, New York. As a precursor to it's unveiling, today Metal Injection premieres a new video for the album's closing bruiser, "Castigo Corpus Meum."
Loosely meaning "I punish my body," this smoldering clip serves as the band's first official music video in it's entire twenty-plus year career. Comments drummer Bill Tolley, "We chose 'Castigo' because it contains everything you'd expect from us - the spine crushing slams, the dramatic tempo changes and heavy grooves - plus it has a bit of a surprise twist at the end that we think makes the song interesting and a bit different than what you'd expect from us."
Check out the video below, and you can also catch the band live on the Carnival of Death tour in October. Dates are available after the jump. More...

Pierce the Veil has been sequestered at Dan Korneff's Sonic Deris Recording Studio in New York, writing and recording a brand new album due for a January 2015 release on Fearless Records.
As yet untitled, the release is being produced by Korneff (A Day To Remember, Paramore) who worked with the band on previous album "Collide."
Vocalist Vic Fuentes began working on ideas as early as late last year and began writing new material in earnest this Spring. He and the band - Mike Fuentes (drums), Tony Perry (guitar), and Jaime Preciado (bass) - started pre-production in May in their newly-renovated San Diego home studio.
In June, with 11 songs written, the band headed to New York to begin recording; nine of those songs are earmarked for the new album, and the band has written two more since.
Said Vic about the sessions, "We try to stay focused on writing and recording songs that we're happy with, that we like, songs that will be fun to play live and that our fans will want to sing along with, songs that offer a little something different, but are all still very much PTV songs." More...

Northern Oak, the South Yorkshire folk metal group, today reveals a lyric video for "Nerthus," which serves as a first taste of forthcoming album "Of Roots And Flesh" (due out October 4th).
"Nerthus" is a song that describes the worship ritual for an ancient pagan goddess of the same name. Guitarist Chris Mole elaborates:
"A statue of the goddess would be carted around the island where she was worshiped to receive offerings from her followers. The statue would be taken to a sacred pool to be cleansed by a group of slaves, who would then be slaughtered, as touching the goddess and looking upon her face was considered too divine for mortals to survive.
"Martin's lyrics tell the story of one slave who willingly offers himself up for this duty, seeing it as an honour and a way to atone for the worthlessness of his former life.
“We think ‘Nerthus’ is one of the strongest songs on the album, both lyrically and musically - Martin's lyrics are really emotive, and the song has some really powerful riffs and a solo which I really love playing.” More...

With the classic line-up from "Slaughter Of The Soul" (1995), At The Gates held the recording sessions for "At War With Reality" with Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman and then proceeded to mix the material with Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios.
At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg checked in with a report as follows: "We are very excited to finally have finished this new album. An album that we've been working on for over a year now. It's by far the most challenging record that we have made, but it's an honest album and I think that you will feel that it is faithful to the legacy of At The Gates.
"We have, through the process of creating it, been true to ourselves and our art. From hearing the first demos that Anders presented to the band last summer, through the extensive stages of songwriting, pre-production, rehearsals, recording and mixing, we now finally got the finished album in our hands.

Boston death thrashers Revocation revealed details of the upcoming fifth full length studio release, and first with Metal Blade Records, "Deathless." The album is set for an October 14th release and the artwork and track list have bee unveiled. "Deathless" will be available in CD, 2LP and digital formats. The title track can be heard streaming in the player below and pre-orders can be made at this location.
"Deathless" was recorded with acclaimed producer Zeuss at Planet Z studios in Massachusetts. The album is ten tracks of "ambitious, catchy, and undeniably heavy material." Musically, cuts like "Madness Opus" showcase a more deliberate REVOCATION - restrained, if even moderately so, to deliver a slow, near-dirge like track. Alternatively, the title track highlights the diversity of Davidson's vocals with a catchy chorus. It's an earworm the likes of which the band had only previously hinted. The rest of the album offers a refreshing variety of music and truly feels like an "album", rather than a collection of similar tracks. This is a refinement, achieved only through years of focusing on their craft.
Davidson adds, "Collectively, we feel that "Deathless" is our finest offering yet. The songs are incredibly varied and each one showcases a different element of the band. Technically, everyone is in top form on this record, as well, and we really pushed ourselves to deliver the best performances possible on all fronts. This is a new chapter and a new beginning for the band; we can't wait for this record to be unleashed in October!"
Lyrically, "Deathless" addresses life on the road and the band's commitment to touring, followed by even more touring. Davidson discusses the track "Madness Opus," which debuted on the recent tour with DevilDriver: "The crowd response for that tune has been overwhelmingly positive. It's one of the heaviest songs we've ever written, hands down, and has been a blast to play live. Lyrically, it's about one of my favorite HP Lovecraft stories, 'The Music Of Erich Zann.' Fans of unnamable cosmic horror and punishing death metal will not be disappointed!"
Revocation begins touring in support of "Deathless" in September with Crowbar in North America, followed by a full European tour with new label mates Cannibal Corpse and Aeon. Dates and venues can be found below.
The track listing for the album is:
1. A Debt Owed to the Grave
3. Labyrinth of Eyes
4. Madness Opus
5. Scorched Earth Policy
6. The Blackest Reaches
7. The Fix
8. United in Helotry

Sweden's Scar Symmetry posted details on the band's upcoming new release "The Singularity (Phase I: Neohumanity)." The album is the first in a trilogy concept album series and is set for release on October 3rd (EU), October 6th (UK & France) and October 14th (US) via Nuclear Blast Records.
Guitarist/keyboardist/composer Per Nilsson explains how the idea came about: "Last year, Henrik [Ohlsson, drums] approached me with this super cool lyrical concept, that was so complex and vast in scope that we realized it was a story that couldn't be told in just one album. So, the decision was made: instead of writing a new album, we started working on a trilogy of albums - the most ambitious project of our career.
Nilsson goes on to explain the concept: "In the coming decades we will see the rise of artificial intelligence and transhumanism. Humanity will build artilects (artificial intellects) with mental capacities far above the human level of thought. By the year 2030, one of the world's biggest industries will be "artificial brains," used to control artilects that will be genuinely intelligent and useful. Millions of people will be prepared to spend more money on an artilect than on a car.
"So in about a decade there will be a thriving artificial brain industry, and nearly everyone will have an artilect which will be upgraded every two or three years. Each new artilect generation will be smarter and more useful than the previous generation, so that as the gap between the human intelligence level and the artificial intelligence level gets smaller every year, the species dominance debate will increase. There will be those who embrace the new technology and those who oppose it. There will also be those who add artilectual components to their own bodies, aiming to become artilect gods themselves.
"The rise of the artilects and cyborgs will be disruptive to human culture, creating alienation and hatred. Children infused with artilectual nanotechnology and components will become dead to their parents as they see their offspring turn into cyborgs because they are no longer human, but an artilect in human disguise. Those who oppose the cyborgs and artilects will have to strike early in the oncoming conflict or they will be overthrown by the superior artificial species.
"Add to this the advances in cryonics and cloning where minds can be downloaded and uploaded into eternal physical life and we see a very different reality emerge on earth.
"The singularity is here, technocalypse and cybergeddon emerges!" More...
