Currently celebrating ten years of blackened metal, Skeletonwitch is proud to unveil details about the band's most venomous release yet - "Serpents Unleashed."
Set for release in North America on October 29th (October 28th EU/UK, October 25th Germany), the follow-up to 2011's "Forever Abomination" (reviewed here) was recorded earlier this year at GodCity Studio with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Trap Them, High on Fire).
"Serpents Unleashed" features cover artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak), who returns to the fold for the first time since 2007's "Beyond The Permafrost." The album's track listing is as follows: More...
Cult of Luna has announced the September 17th, 2013 release of "Vertikal II" on Density Records. The 4-track release contains over 30 minutes of music and is available to pre-order today through the Workhorse Music store.
The Swedish rock band released sixth full-length album "Vertikal" in January and recently announced a fall co-headlining tour with Katatonia that begins in Boston, Massachusetts on September 23rd, 2013.
"Vertikal II is the continuation of our journey into the harshness of the monotone city landscape," commented Johannes Persson. "The songs were written during the Vertikal-session and we always intended them to be released close to the album. Justin Broadrick's remix was not a part of the original plan but since it came out phenomenally good we thought that it would fit perfectly as closer of the whole Vertikal-project. With Verikal II we complete and end a chapter that, for the last few years, have been a big part of our lives. Now we leave the inner city and look up into the vast void above."
The track listing is as follows:
1. O R O
2. Light Chaser
3. Shun the Mask?
4. Vicarious Redemption (Justin K. Broadrick remix)
Cult of Luna will return to North America for the first time in eight years this fall for a co-headlining twelve-date tour with Katatonia with support from TesseracT and Intronaut. "After the release of Vertikal and the massive progress we feel we have made over the last couple of years - both as a live act and in the studio - the timing couldn't be better for us to return to US soil,” said Johannes Persson. “Cult of Luna is a live act above all else and we are looking forward to connecting again with the US audience that treated us so well in 2005." This autumn, Ufomammut will head out on the Magickal Mastery Tour, a journey through fifteen years of music, performing songs from "Godlike Snake" through "ORO" in a new light, as thanksgiving to audiences worldwide for their support and devotion.
In a collective statement Ufomammut commented: "We are very excited to come out and play material from across our album catalog. Whereas the recent focus has been on ORO, an album which we are most proud of, we are looking forward to playing older material also, as it's been a while! This marks the last tour we shall do for a period, whilst we concentrate on writing a new album."

Gothenburg's Bombus has completed a second video for the band's Century Media debut album, "The Poet and the Parrot."
The video for "Enter The Night" was created by former bass player, Ulf Lundèn, who is now in charge of all the band's artwork. The band has teamed up with Metal Hammer to premiere the video, which can be viewed below.
Bombus comments: "'Enter the Night' is, obviously since we're using it as a video track, one of our favorites on the album. The song pretty much sums up what we're about as it starts out as an aggressive rocker and ends on a more barren note. Behind the video is ex Bombus bass player Ulf - who totally has outdone himself with this video - where he lets Bombus enter and travel through his version of the night. Enjoy and buckle up!"
New album "The Poet and the Parrot" will be in stores September 17th and will be available as a limited edition digipak with 2 additional bonus tracks, as a standard CD, and as a gatefold vinyl (180 gram on black or dark green wax). More...

Hard rock band SOiL is gearing up for the release for sixth studio album, "Whole," with a brand new track called "The Hate Song" available today courtesy of RevolverMag.com. Check out the track below.
"Whole" is scheduled for release on August 20th via Pavement Entertainment/AFRM Records and can be pre-ordered now at iTunes, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com.
“It was funny how the song came about,” singer Ryan McCombs says of the new single. “Adam was doodling on his guitar making this super annoying sound when he caught me staring at him with a WTF look. He apologized but I responded that 'No. That annoying fucking sound would be perfect for this song about Hate I had an idea for.' The sound itself makes me want to knock holes in the wall.”
SOiL’s sixth studio album, "Whole," marks singer Ryan McCombs’ return to the band for the first time since 2004’s "Re.De.Fine," after spending six years as the vocalist for Drowning Pool. SOiL will hit the road this week on 3 month long tour that includes headlining shows, festivals, and a month long trek with Dope. Dates are available after the jump. More...
Mesopotamian black/thrash pioneers Melechesh are hard at work on pre-productions for a new album, the successor to "The Epigenesis" (reviewed here).
Furthermore, the band has parted ways with long time guitarist and close friend Moloch and drummer Xul. Moloch had officially been out of Melechesh for 8 months prior as his role in the band was no longer active due to focusing on his academic career.
While it is still to be announced who will be filling the drumming position, Moloch will be replaced by new guitarist Sirius. Ashmedi and bass player/backing vocalist Scorpiros will debut the new line up on the stage late fall early winter 2013 during the band's North American tour.
Commented Ashmedi: "I talked with Moloch and asked him maybe it is better he is no longer a part of Melechesh because we needed to have an active guitar player, he fully agreed and was thinking the exact same thing. He is one of my best friends but this has to do with Melechesh and music - nothing else. In fact we will be hanging out soon in Jerusalem and catching up. He is always welcome to come jam or do a guest appearance - like I said, this man is one of the closest people to me personally. We are literally family, I wish the best of luck for his new and interesting Journey. More...
To mark today's release of the Old Wounds/Trenchfoot split seven-inch on Melotov Records, New Noise Magazine presents a stream of the entire record. Check it out below.
Currently in the midst of a U.S. tour that included a slot on this year's The Power of the Riff Festival in LA, road dogs Old Wounds hail from New Jersey and play a searing brand of metallic hardcore that recalls 90s scene definers like Turmoil and Disembodied. A recent review on Pitchfork referred to Old Wounds as "furious hardcore" and praised the band's "concision and power."
From upstate New York, Trenchfoot churn out an even darker shade of hardcore, evoking the epic, depressive laments of Cursed and Tragedy.
Both bands' material for the split was recorded by Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations (Pulling Teeth, Full of Hell). More...

The infinitely mysterious yet irrefutably heralded underworld musical entity known to its devout cult following as The Ruins of Beverast will unveil its massive fourth LP late this Summer.
Ahead of its release, Pitchfork has hosted an exclusive listen to the album's expansive second movement, "Daemon." Unleash the beast right here. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"The solo project of one Meilenwald, the infamously devastating drummer and one of the chief songwriters for now defunct legion Nagelfar, in addition to drummer for Truppensturm, Abusus, Verdunkeln and more, The Ruins of Beverast originated in 2003, and with each release has pummeled underground audiences with an epic, wholly original style of massive, mesmerizing, and malicious black metal artistry.
"With an incredible tact for keeping his hymns continually entertaining, each of TROB's full-length releases boast well over an hour of exceptionally high-quality blackened craft with not a moment of filler and each album showing more progression than the previous, not only musically, but artistically and conceptually. The art of 2004's debut Unlock The Shrine was taken to even darker and cryptic levels with the 2006 follow-up Rain Upon The Impure, and with the release 2009's grand Foulest Semen Of A Sheltered Elite the word 'epic' should have been wiped out of the dictionary, the album showcasing Meilenwald's most intriguing tunes to date. Until Now.
"After a four-year wait, and celebrating the act's ten-year mark in 2013, the newest works from The Ruins of Beverast are nearing public availability with the pending release of Blood Vaults -- The Blazing Gospel Of Heinrich Kramer (Cryptae Sanguinum -- Evangelium Flagrans Henrici Institoris). Cyprus metal act Blynd has checked in with the following announcement about dropping off the band's planned tour with Nile, which was to kick off at the end of the month:
"Some good things end before they even start! Due to some unfortunate last minute circumstances and personal/professional obligations beyond our control, we were forced to drop out of the Nile tour. We did our best to work around it, but it proved to be impossible.
"We would like to thank Massive Music for the offer and we are sure that we will meet again in the future. Instead, we will continue working on our new album, you can be sure it's going to be something very special. See you all soon, HORNS UP!!"
You can also check out three tracks off Blynd's "Punishment Unfolds" album over at this location.
Darren Cruickshank of Entrosolet has posted the following message online about the band calling it quits:
"First off, I want to say sorry that this has taken so long to be relayed to you guys. Unfortunately I've decided to leave this band and it looks like for the forseeable future that Entrosolet isn't going to be making anymore music. This was an extremely hard decision for me, but I feel that it's for the best.
"This is mainly due to feeling hung up on the same old material and being unable to move on with my writing. No one is really to blame, it's just worked out that way.
"However this doesn't mean I will stop making music. I'm going to be releasing some of the old stuff and write new songs for Bleeding Skies.
"Also I have a new project in the works that is looking extremely promising, so keep an eye out for that.
"I love you guys, thanks for all the huge support you've shown this band over the years, you've waited a long time for the album, I'm extremely sorry that it was never released as promised.
"Luckily no money was given to us in a kickstarter or anything like that haha. Feel free to support me through purchasing some of my solo music on Bleeding Skies. Keep an eye out for that new project which will be coming together soon with some friends of mine. If you liked Entrosolet, You'll like it.
"I wish the rest of the band well with whatever they go on to do! I know they'll do extremely well. We all ended on good terms and still have strong friendships outside of the band.
"I'm really sorry again to everyone, and thanks for everything." More...

Thrash act Toxic Waltz will be releasing an as-yet-untitled album later this year. The following press release was issued about the band:
"In the beginning of 2009, Toxic Waltz was founded by lead guitarist Jimi and ex-drummer Tim.
Bass guitar player Rahman, vocalist Angelo and rhythm guitarist Alex joined the band soon to form a thrash metal ensemble that is clearly affected by the U.S. Bay Area style (e.g. Exodus, Heathen, Dark Angel), neither leaving out influences from other genres nor lacking recognition value.
"Toxic Waltz is delivering aggressive, but artistically demanding thrash, characterized by diversified songwriting. The band's unique style and live experience, originated with many smaller gigs, earned them bigger venues soon.
"Toxic Waltz shared the stage with well-known bands like Six Feet Under, Alpha Tiger, and Debauchery. In the near future the debut full-length record 'tba' is ready to be released through a record company. The band is fully ambitious to reach the maximum success for them and the label!" More...

You'll find nods to Converge, Gojira, Isis, Ion Dissonance, 90s Florida death metal, Swedish melodic death and modern deathcore (the good kind, if thats such a thing). Independent.ie and several other news outlets are reporting that Ian Watkins of Lostprophets, who has been in jail awaiting trial on several sex crimes charges, has been placed on suicide watch. An excerpt from the article follows:
Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins is on suicide watch five times an hour as he prepares to stand trial in Wales accused of raping a baby.
A clinical psychologist suggested the singer receive anti-psychotic medication, and recommended he be moved from Parc prison in Bridgend to a psychiatric hospital.
Watkins denies 24 sex offences, including raping a baby and possessing an extreme image of a person having sex with an animal.
His co-accused, two females who cannot be named for legal reasons, also appeared in court today.
While one of the women, a 24-year-old, denies all charges against her, the other, a 20-year-old, has admitted sexually touching a child and taking and distributing indecent images of it.
All three were remanded in custody as Judge Eleri Rees adjourned the hearing until 14 October.
His trial is set to start on November 25th, 2013. There has been no official statement from the band at this point, although the LostProphets" Facebook profile remains online. Further details will be announced as they come available.

New York’s malignant noise instigators and recent Seventh Rule signees, Gnaw, will unleash the diseased fruit of sonic discontent this October.
"Horrible Chamber" will be unleashed via Seventh Rule Recordings on October 15th, 2013. Preorder details to be unveiled in the coming weeks. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Gnaw is the maniacal anti-creation of Alan Dubin (Khanate, Old, O.L.D.), Carter Thornton (Enos Slaughter), Jun Mizumachi (Ike Yard), Brian Beatrice and Eric Neuser. Together they’ve manifested a terrifyingly claustrophobic, seven-track journey of sound where the collective sentiments of fear, trauma, rage and repugnance collide into a cathartic state of brooding, audio disease. Fittingly titled, Horrible Chamber, the follow-up to 2009’s This Face, which Exclaim! proclaimed 'noisy, demented and twistedly glorious,' and The Obelisk crowned 'extreme, experimental and sonically unpleasant,' was recorded at Seizures Palace by Jason LaFarge (Swans, Akron/Family, Khanate, Angels Of Light) and mixed by Brian Beatrice at audioEngine and mastered by James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Khanate, Khlyst etc), with additional elements recorded by Beatrice, Dubin, Thornton, and Mizumachi in various chambers." Vincent Cavanagh, frontman for heralded atmospheric rock band Anathema, has commented on the group's impending North American tour with co-headliner Alcest and special guest Mamiffer.
"I can't wait," said the talented vocalist/guitarist. "Such a cool line up - three bands that move in different spheres while sharing the intent to create music that is honest, forward-thinking and uninhibited.
"I first met Stéphane from Alcest last year, discussing '90's shoegaze bands in a forest in Lithuania! He is someone for whom I have great respect. Their music is melodic and soulful, full of dream-like imagery.
"Mamiffer are true artists. The dynamic mix of stark piano, crushing melancholic textures and choral reverie is something to behold. Exactly the kind of thing I'm into, so I'm really looking forward to it."
Anathema has only performed twice as a full band in North America, at the infamous Milwaukee Metal Fest in 2000 and 2001, as well as supporting a few dates of Blackfield's 2011 tour as an acoustic duo. The fall 2013 co-headlining tour will see the band play many cities in both the U.S. and Canada for the first time, beginning September 12th in Philadelphia, Pa. More...
