41 news articles posted on this day.
Scottish band Winters will be issuing its second full-length album "Berlin Occult Bureau" on Vän Records August 31st. Below is an upload of the track "Auslander" from the album. Winters got together in 2005, releasing the "Satellites" EP. Three years later the band issued the debut full-length "Black Clouds in Twin Galaxies" on Rise Above Records. Winters describes its sound as 'Ace Frehley on downers.'
Wrexham, United Kingdom druid drone band Mother Of Six has issued a follow up to April's "The Integer" in the form of a new four-song EP that clocks in at almost thirty minutes of ambient drone. A sampler for the EP, "Eadem Mutata Resurgo," has been posted over on YouTube, plus you may view an upload of the new Mother Of Six track "A Fo Ben Bid Bont" below. The band recently got back from playing the Llangollen Fringe Festival.
Athens, Georgia doom/death band Woccon recently issued its second EP "The Wither Fields," which has made its way over to YouTube as a series of four uploads. Below is the track "Failing Devotion," which features Lili Le Bullet of Drakkara. Before releasing "The Wither Fields," Woccon was the project of multi-instrumentalist Tim Rowland (Sholfrost, ex-Peregrine), who released "Through Ancestral Fires," which featured guest vocals by Ryan Morgan of Misery Signals. On this EP, both guitarist Tiler Kuykendall and drummer Wade Jones entered the band to embark on a more melodic direction of doom death.
Hailing from eastern Poland is the stoner band Dopelord who formed back in 2010. Just recently the band issued a seven-song offering titled "Magick Rites," which is streaming on Bandcamp. Dopelord put this album out as the first ever release on the Polish label I Can't Tell You Records. The band, which is heavily influenced by 70's music, magic herbs and old movies, had Miodek and Tomasz Gornicki create the artwork for "Magick Rites." Stream it in its entirety below.
St. Louis act In The Midst of Lions has posted the following announcement online about deciding to call it a day:
"Hello everyone! We are so so sorry for how long it has taken us to update you all on the situation with the band.
"After our last tour in November of 2011 ended we came home with intentions of resting up and heading back out on the road on the 'Kingdom Days' tour in April of 2012. Unfortunately, the long break from tour along with some other opportunities for a couple of the band members meant that 2 of our members were leaving the band. This caused us to cancel our April tour for the remaining members to decide what our next step was.
"After a few months of no decisions and lack of motivation to catch 2 new members up to speed we decided to call it quits and see where the Lord would take us in our own lives individually.
"We are truly sorry that we took so long I update you all. If we have any farewell tour shows or even a tour in the future we will update you all immediately.
"God bless you all and thank you for the support through the years! We truly appreciate all your support!"
You can still check out the band's music over at the In The Midst of Lions Facebook profile here.

Ephel Duath had the pleasure of working with producer and studio owner Erik Rutan (also guitarist in Hate Eternal / ex-Morbid Angel) behind the mixing board of "On Death and Cosmos." As a result of this cooperation, Erik Rutan has prepared a video in which he discusses his own view on the new EP and talks about working with the band.

The following press release was also issued about the band: "Whether chopping a riff into pieces, reversing it, cutting it short, or messing with the tempo, Car Bomb’s unique style of progressive metal is the product of dissecting ideas and beating them to death. The result is equivalent to a jet engine propelling gravel into your skull. Car Bomb combines the polyrhythmic and mathematical madness of Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape Plan with the rage and energetic fury of Coalesce and Converge. Though their songs are musically challenging, Car Bomb refuse to dilute their ruthless execution. Their intent is to assault the listener in any and every way possible – compositionally, sonically, and lyrically."

Sweden’s Shining has today announced that the band's new album will be called “Redefining Darkness.” Unlike all previous Shining albums, “Redefining Darkness,” which will be the band’s eighth full-length release, will not preface its title with a number.
According to founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth “The use of numbers to describe our albums is no longer something that Shining is interested in doing. The new album is without a doubt the darkest thing I have ever done or heard. People will be upset for sure – and hopefully its divine genius will destroy the lives of thousands."

The band's publicist also issued the following press release about the album:
"It is said that great art has the power to take us outside of ourselves and bring us closer to ourselves simultaneously. Few bands have accomplished this rare feat on a more profound and consistent basis than Neurosis. For nearly three decades, their music has touched the hearts and minds of young men and women seeking contact with something beyond the physical world, something intangible, something that expresses the inner tumult of the human condition in a way that transcends time and space. Something that not only provokes questions but maybe even hints at answers.
"Since 1985 this matchless force has surpassed the boundaries of any genre, never ceasing to mutate and progress their songwriting and sonic delivery, and never failing to mesmerize audiences both in the studio and onstage. And as the anticipation from their diehard fanbase reaches a boiling point, this week NEUROSIS unveil the title of their eleventh full-length studio creation, which will manifest itself as Honor Found In Decay. A great big thanks to our amazing crew who did a fantastic job - to say this in (correct) 'Wacken' terms: the band was good but the crew were brilliant!

"As we said on our press conference at Wacken, we are looking at a release date in February. Every week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we take a look at three quality bands that haven't gotten as much exposure yet as they should. This week, we'll be taking a slightly different approach to the article and focusing on hardcore music instead, specifically hardcore music in the United Kingdom.
The history of hardcore in Great Britain dates back a long way, beginning with what would become known as the "UK82" scene (also called "No future punk" and "UK Hardcore" amongst other things,) which featured massively influential bands such as The Exploited and the socially concsious, Discharge, who were so influential that they had a sub-genre named after them called D-Beat (similar to hardcore, only even faster,) which featured other high quality British hardcore acts like The Varukers.
Discharge - "Never Again"
The Varukers - "Soldier Boy"
Cypriot power metal act Arrayan Path posted the first in studio videos for the recordings of the band's new LP "IV: Stigmata." The album has no release date as of yet, due to new arrivals in several band members families (including vocalist Nicholas Leptos).
In the first video, drummer Stefan Dittrich lays down the drum tracks for the album. Check it out here:
Amaranthe, featuring Dragonland, Dreamland, Nightrage, Mercenary members and fronted by Elize Ryd (Kamelot (live)), are set to record the band's sophomore full length release. The band will enter the studio on September 24th to record the as of yet unnamed LP and follow up to the 2011 self-titled release for Spinefarm Records. The band will work again with producer Jacob Hansen in his Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark. The album is set for a tentative early 2013 release.
Guitarist Olof Mörck had the following comments:
"So it is finally revelation time! In between our constant and never-ending touring we have tirelessly been working on our next album, which is really starting to come together. We have lived and breathed the same 12 songs from the first album every day for a year now, and to introduce a number of completely fresh tracks will really lift Amaranthe to the next level! The theme and atmosphere of the album is futuristic and ultra modern, something underlined by the first teaser poster. The music itself will be instantly recognisable as Amaranthe, but there is definitely a new and unique twist to the songs. People often ask us if there is a big pressure to follow up such a successful album, and always say 'no, not one bit'. Not when you sit down and listen to new tracks such as 'Invincible', 'Burn with Me' and 'Stardust'. We simply cannot wait to hit the road all over the world with these new babies!"
Amaranthe will make its U.S. live debut at ProgPower USA in Atlanta next month.
