A few weeks back Halycon Way checked in with us to share a Pit Story about a massive wall of death at a Lamb of God show, and now the Atlanta prog metal group is back for another tale of pit shenanigans.
This week the group shares a tale of an unwanted pit failing to erupt at the NAMM convention. Halcyon Way had this to say about the event:
So, it's the Winter NAMM show in January of 2013. I'm at the Grove in Anaheim for an industry-only show there, and it's Exodus, Prong, and Jeff Loomis playing. I'm with a group of friends - other musicians, manufacturers, our producer Lasse Lammert is there, it's a good group. The Grove is a good sized venue, and it's probably about half full, so there's a pretty fair amount of room in the crowd area too, because the venue's floor is kinda segmented, with 20 foot sections going up from the stage. Basically, you have a 15-20 foot deep section the width of the venue, then there's a couple of steps up and a short wall, and there's another level a couple feet higher. I think there's 3-4 total. Keep in mind that this is an industry-only event, and that the general public was not allowed in. You had to get a pass from Dean Guitars in the NAMM show at the convention center.
So, during Prong's set there's a small pit breaking out in the lowest level, and that's cool. The people that didn't want to pit were up higher watching the show....until some drunk numbnuts decides he's going to start one 2 levels up. And the douche didn't even know how to really do a pit, he just decided to drunkenly stagger from one side of the venue to the other, and ram into as many people as he could. Women? Sure. Dudes? Of course. Mom with baby? He would have if there were one there. The guy was being a complete toolbag, just ramming into anyone at random, hitting them from behind, etc.More...

What better way to let them go than by sharing my demons with the world."

Get This Right Records today confirms the September release of a new self-titled EP from Wilmington, North Carolina-based hardcore outfit Society Sucker. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Delivering their own slamming brand of NYHC-influenced East Coast hardcore, Society Sucker takes lessons from classic bands like Subzero, Next Step Up and Merauder, delivered in a brutal delivery akin to contemporary powerhouses Trapped Under Ice, Incendiary and Suburban Scum. Having quickly surged to the forefront of the quickly growing North Carolina hardcore scene since forming in the Summer of 2013, the band has performed heavily regionally along the East Coast with an extensive list of local and internationally touring acts.
"Following their debut demo dropped last year, the Summer of 2014 will bring forth the first official release from Society Sucker, having recently hooked up with Get This Right Records for the unleashing of the self-titled EP.
"With five enraged tracks loaded with more brutal hooks than a fleet of whalers, Society Sucker was recorded in February of this year at The Skylight Studio with Vince Ratti and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and bears bold cover art by Steven Kulesza. Society Sucker is a band committed to keeping hardcore hard. This is the proof." More...

Surviving GWAR members Mike Derks (Balsac) and Brad Roberts (Jizmak) guested on this week’s episode of the Metal Sucks podcast to talk about the future of GWAR, their long and storied history with Dave Brockie, and their perspectives on both Brockie's addictions and untimely death earlier this year.
In the 40-minute interview, the GWAR guitarist and drummer discuss how there will be multiple new GWAR characters gracing the stage starting this Fall. Derks and Roberts also discuss this weekend's Gwar-B-Q, the upcoming opening of the Gwar Bar in Richmond, Virginia, and their upcoming touring plans. According to the band: "We take one dumb idea and couple it on another stupid idea and it becomes genius."
Before closing a main stage show at Bloodstock Festival last weekend, unsigned U.K. melodic extreme metal band Bloodshot Dawn made a very special announcement.
Frontman Josh McMorran informed the crowd that a new album, entitled "Demons," would be released in the UK on the 26th of October (rest of the world TBA).
"Demons" is the second Bloodshot Dawn album and was funded by fans in a Kickstarter campaign which achieved it's goal in just 4 days. The album will also be the first recording with new drummer Janne Jaloma (also of Gothenburg death metal outfit Deals Death).
"Demons" spans 43 minutes and includes guest musicians such as Sven De Caluwé (Aborted, System Divide), Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry), Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun), Andy James (ex-Sacred Mother Tongue) and Chris Amott (Armageddon, ex-Arch Enemy).
Speaking of "Demons" in relation to the band's self-titled debut, which was released in 2012, Josh comments: “From a musical perspective it has been a completely natural progression. We have not become more melodic or more brutal but rather we’ve enhanced all aspects of the sound we had built up on the first album! This album is a huge step up in technical ability and song writing prowess without changing the music enough to alienate our current fans!
“The title ‘Demons’, which is also the name of one of the tracks, perfectly represents the lyrical content within the album. It also ties in with the amazing new artwork. The song's lyrical content is about demons on both a personal and a wider social scale, explaining our views on modern society and the struggles within the mind. The album is all about beating your demons and making something of the time you have on the earth whilst battling the ever lasting struggles and trials that come with being human.”
The artwork was masterminded by Swedish artist Par Olofoson and the track listing will be as follows:
1. Smoke and Mirrors
2. Consequence Complex
5. Black Hole Infinity
6. Human Void
7. The Image Faded
8. Demons More...

Xtreem Music has released the following announcement about re-issuing the Trascëndental discography:
"One of Spain's most underrated death metal bands from 90's are Trascëndental, a band formed back in 1991 that released a first demo in '95 entitled 'Uncertain Future' that would become their debut album 'Behind...' one year later. Then in '98 a second and last album entitled 'Dimensions' was released and the band disbanded right after that.
"Both albums were released on a very limited self-financed way thus getting no promotion and distribution at all, resulting on this previously called 'underrated' status, since basically nobody, specially outside of Spain, knew about the existence of this band, and only a small circle of death metal freaks knew about Trascëndental.
"Now, nearly 2 decades after the recording of their first album, the band sees their discography re-issued under the title of 'Nothingness' with remastered sound and improved artwork featuring both original album covers, lyrics and tons of photos and flyers from back in the days. The style of Trascëndental is a classic Death Metal near to bands like Death ('Leprosy' era), early Pestilence, early Gorguts, Polluted Inheritance, and the likes. A slightly technical stuff later developed by his mainman Armando García on his later band From Nowhere.
"The release date for 'Nothingness' is set for September 1st and in the meantime don't waste a second to check out one song from their debut album 'Behind...' below." More...

Kaine recently self-released new album "The Waystone" (which is available at Bandcamp here), and the band has now posted this message online to fans explaining why the group has turned down offers from record labels:
"Kaine has been negotiating with a number of established European record labels over the past month and despite having firm offers the band has decided to decline these deals.
"This is due to a number of reasons ranging from the labels wanting a high % of merch sales taken at gigs, total control over digital income to little or no income on any records sold and for the lack of any real plan, investment or advantage over releasing our material ourselves.
"The band funded 'The Waystone' entirely, to be essentially offered 50-100 free CDs to sell from these labels (we can produce our own CDs reasonably with Cram Duplication anyway) in return for the rights over our album with little or no % of sales offered to the band we didn’t believe these were fair or realistic offers. The album was a significant cost to the band and our objective is to break even on this cost, none of these offers would have allowed this to happen and would have resulted in a loss while essentially allowing them to make a small profit from our hard work.
"Our own CDs are selling well presently and we take 100% of the income minus a little for selling through bandcamp/CD Baby. We also retain 100% of our digital and merch income. This puts us in a very strong position moving forward.
"Kaine recently managed to negotiate a decent deal with a label in America which saw a fair % of return for sales and would have even lead to the album being released on vinyl, but this has also fallen through with them not being able to commit to their end of the agreement. We are very disappointed that this deal did not work out.
"The band has not been disheartened by this process, we have had bad experiences with labels in the past and are keen not to return to a loss making situation once more. As stated we are in a very strong position and while we may lack the investment to buy our way onto major festivals, supports and tours and into the established magazine we will continue to work hard, playing every show we can and try and buck the trend and be a success through hard work in what is a dying 'Metal' industry. We will continue to be 100% honest about what’s happening with the band and the challenges we face within the 'industry.'" More...

Russian progressive death metal act Tantal has signed on with Italy's Bakerteam Records. The band is set to release the sophomore album "Expectancy" on October 28th.
Formed in 2004 in Moscow, Tantal attracted critical acclaim with the release of the debut album "The Beginning Of The End" in 2009, which was described as "an addictive mix of progressive, death, thrash and modern metal enriched by gloomy conceptual lyrics and plenty of attitude." While touring relentlessly in support of that album, the band saw their fan base grow exponentially, with videos broadcast on national television and songs featured on the most important metal radio shows.
In 2013, Tantal announced the addition of talented female vocalist Milana Solovitskaya to the lineup and a new album, "Expectancy," which redefines the sound as "way more diverse and mature than its predecessor." The new release is said to feature "beautiful catchy melodies, powerful riffs, expressive guitar solos and a groovy rhythm section, including one song in their native Russian language and an acoustic version of one song from the previous album as a bonus tracks, especially recorded for this release."
The album's artwork (shown below) was conceived by renowned Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Morbid Angel, Firewind, Cryptopsy, Amaranthe). The band previously posted a lyric video for the track "Nothing," which can be viewed at this location. More...
Brazilian power metal act Kattah signed with Italy's Bakerteam Records for the release of the new album "Lapis Lazuli" on October 28th. Formed in 2006 in Brazil, the band is known for a unique approach to music, mixing heavy metal with Arabian, Eastern European, Brazilian and many other musical styles, atmospheres and rhythms.
The debut album "Eyes Of Sand" (2010) saw positive reviews from all over the world, and it came to no surprise when fellow Brazilian act Angra invited them to open their 2011 European tour, a great opportunity for Kattah to display their powerful live show and consolidate their name among thousands of heavy metal fans. "Lapis Lazuli" sees the band taking things to a whole new level, with stronger melodies, classier arrangements, outstanding performances and a production team which includes some of the best professionals in the business: Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Sepultura, Helloween) and Andy Haller (Ozzy Osbourne, System Of A Down).
