Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick has issued the following update about his decision to not participate in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra winter tour this year:
"It’s been nearly ten years since my first TSO Winter Tour. Each year it’s been an incredible experience, traveling from arena to arena being an important part of the largest symphonic rock production in history. This year, however, I’ve decided to make the difficult decision of stepping out of the spotlight (and lasers, fog, fire and snow) and embarking upon new adventures.
"The reasons for this are twofold. As one might imagine, the TSO winter tour is a demanding one- with long days and an action packed show that calls for no less than 200% of yourself, often twice a day from the mid-October rehearsals to the final show in January. While the awesome response from fans and the collaboration with fellow performers make it beyond worth it, there comes a point, after so many years of annual grueling intensity, for some of us to draw upon that quarter of a year’s worth of time and energy in order to launch a renewed focus on our own visions.
"In my case, this process begins with the release of a brand new album (Alex Skolnick trio ‘Veritas’ Due October 15) to be followed by heavy touring, including winter dates in support of RodrigoYGabriela. There are many other endeavors in the works, the information of which will be continually updated on-line at www.alexskolnick.com. Furthermore, as someone who has been on tour with multiple projects and running on all cylinders during the entire calendar year since 2006, reclaiming this three month period will open up the option to take breaks once in a while, remember what home looks like, lessen the constant separation from friends and loved ones and recharge my own batteries as needed.
"I’m really looking forward to sharing all the new projects with everyone. Updated info can always be found at www.alexskolnick.com and you can follow me on Twitter: www.twitter.com/alexskolnick.
"Of course, I’ll miss doing the TSO tour. The stage time, friendships and overall experience has been invaluable. I’m grateful to Paul O’Neil and Nightcastle Mgmt for the opportunity, to all the musicians and singers for the good times and to all the fans for the unyielding support, you guys are the best! I look forward to seeing many of you out there in different configurations."

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week vocalist Brett Hoffman and guitarist Phil Fasciana of the legendary death metal band Malevolent Creation talk about an incident at one of their first shows involving an unbelievable oral amputation.

As was previously reported, Father Befouled has inked a deal with Relapse Records. The band has now commented on the signing:
"After many months of silence, we feel extremely glorified to announce that we have signed with Relapse Records for the CD release of our new album, 'Morbid Destitution of Covenant.' It goes without saying, given the sound we craft, we could be none more honored to be part of the Relapse roster, and firmly rooted in the history of American death metal. Without the existence of Relapse there quite simply would not be a Father Befouled, and more importantly there would not be so many bands that the label spawned. We feel extremely confident in our decision to work with one of the labels that helped this sound ooze from the primordial.
"Recorded May 23rd – May 30th, 2010, this is the first album recorded as a fully functioning unit. We are also proud to announce the full time involvement of drummer Wayne Sarantopoulus. Without his inclusion and input, this record would never have happened following the death of our original drummer, Antichristus.
"Set for a mid-summer release, 'Morbid Destitution of Covenant' is a venomous excursion into the depths of the ethereal: serpentine riffing, discordant and eerie melodies, thunderous, abysmal vocals, and a deafening drum roar. We feel we have crafted the ultimate unholy sum of our parts. There is no comparison to the Father Befouled of the past; with 'Morbid Destitution of Covenant' we have found Father Befouled. The husk has been shed and a new being shall stand arisen. However, there shall be no speak of a sound changed, yet purely the cancer has metastasized into a hewn, black nexus of our own oblivion."
Gaia Epicus has checked in with the following update about canceling the previously scheduled U.K. tour dates with Killing Machine:

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine has checked in with the following statement about meet and greet signings for his new autobiography:
"Droogies, well, I got the first official American in-store meet ‘n greet for my autobiography done today at the Book Revue bookstore in Huntington, New York and the group of about 300 Droogies that were there were fantastic.
"Of course there were the 'usuals' there that tried to be 'special' but the bookstore took care of things so that it would be cool for everybody and so we could take care of everybody. I just gotta laugh though, watching these bookworms get all bowed up, especially when the 'usuals' are trying to be all 'rebellious' and but I guess even a library has one or two dickweeds to deal with over the course of time.
"I really can't get over how much I enjoyed myself today doing all of the press and promotion around this book. I had just a great, great day today. I look forward to the signing tomorrow again, and if you didn't get a chance to meet me earlier today there in Long Island, please come to the in-store tomorrow. More...

New Hampshire black metal act Vintage Flesh has checked in with the following update about recording new material:
"Well, two weeks have passed. We felt that not much was done the Sunday of two weeks ago so we skipped a blog. The Sunday two weeks ago was bogged down with technical problems and bad timing. We introduced magic mushrooms into the creative program but when we peeked we were still fucking around with equipment. Some keys were applied and I laid vocal to two songs. I had already crashed by that point and felt I had little vigor left to do them justice. By the next week we listened to the results and it turns out they can be used.
"I thought I may have spied a tear in the Geminis eye when it was played back. Lol! Much more was accomplished this past Sunday. We planned on correcting mistakes before hand. We finished all the instrument recordings but one guitar part which will conclude all the instrumentation and allow us to begin on the road to vocals. We consumed mushrooms again and I ended up throwing up and passing out on the ground outside the studio with a big gash in my head. I just remember how fearless I was even though I had lost control and watched as my body shut down. It felt gooood! Like as if I had died it wouldn't be a problem at all. Though I'm sure once I crossed over and regained my senses I would have been extremely pissed for not hanging around long enough to complete the album. No one had witnessed this episode thankfully.
