Chilean metal band Naioth, hailing from the town of Vina Del Mar, has released its debut album "Dance of Light" for free download via Digmetalworld Records. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by the members of the band between 2010 and 2011. Naioth's "Dance of Light" is a fusion of Latin American based rhythms with the emergent sound of djent. Commented vocalist Ignacio Figueroa: "The results of the first Naioth album "Dance of Light" are one of kind for a Chilean Recording, because it is the very first one of its type." Stream the whole album over on Digmetalworld, or listen to it all below.
Former Crown The Lost guitarist Joe Bonaddio has a new band under the name No Reason to Live. The band has posted a new demo track, entitled "Rest In Pain," on their bandcamp page, where you can hear or download it (pay what you want, including free).
Crown the Lost released three albums over six years. Joe Bonaddio left Crown the Lost last summer (2011).
The overall realm of metal is an incredibly expansive and diverse place, with many different styles and sub-genres all vying for your attention. To help our readers navigate the metallic landscape we unearth three underground or unsigned metal bands every Monday that deserve to be heard.
Awhile back we covered bands that combine different genres or simply ignore genre trends, and on a similar note this week we’re uncovering three bands that drastically changed either sound or lyrical theme from the early works to their modern releases. There are plenty of more well-known (in the extreme metal community anyway) acts that have gone through such a transformation: Samael’s change from black metal to electronica, Katatonia’s move from harsh growls to a cleaner rock sound, Amorphis switching gears with “Am Universum,” Ulver changing things up on pretty much every album, and so on. Instead of rehashing those bigger names that everyone knows about, instead we’ll cover three lesser known acts that have essentially become different bands over time.
Ereb Altor’s underground days are very quickly waning, with the band now releasing new album “Gastrike” through Napalm Records, but there was a time not long ago when nobody knew about Ereb Altor, and it is a side project of an already unknown band, so we’re going to slip this one in here.
The Swedish duo’s debut album “By Honour” (reviewed here) definitely wanted its audience to take the scenic route and enjoy the ride, with slow moving, Viking-style doom metal that took some clear cues from Bathory. Things started to change a bit and the songs become shorter on the follow-up release “The End,” which as the title suggests, was intended to be the demise of the project. Ereb Altor just wouldn’t die however, and now with third album “Gastrike” (review coming soon) the band has radically shifted gears into mid-paced black metal, with only a few underlying doom and Viking metal moments.
To hear the change, check the title track “By Honour” below, and then listen to either of the two songs from “Gastrike.” With the exception of the atmospheric intros, we’re dealing with two completely different genres between these songs.
Lovecraftian funeral doom act Innzmouth has signed with Satanarsa Records to release debut album "Lovecraft’s Dreams." The cover artwork for the album can be viewed below, or you can listen to the title track at this location. The track listing is as follows:
1. Estoric Order of Dagon
2. Lovecraft's Dreams
3. The Voyage
5. Dreams in the Witch House More...
Converge and Napalm Death have come together for a split release, bridging the worlds of personal and politically driven extreme music. A teaser for the split can be heard below, and the following press release was also issued:
"Recorded as part of the band's new album sessions, Converge offer up the blazing new song 'No Light Escapes.' Already a staple of their live set, this whirlwind of an emotional charged song is a soon to be a discordant hardcore/metal anthem for the band. Also on the release, Converge offer a 'We Are The World' styled rendition of the influential Entombed classic 'Wolverine Blues.' Joining them in tribute is a number of friends including Tomas Lindberg (Disfear, At The Gates, Lock Up), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium), Kevin Baker (APMD, The Hope Conspiracy), Brian Izzi (Trap Them), and more. A new Converge album will surface later in 2012 on Epitaph/Deathwish.
"On the flip side, metal pioneers Napalm Death offer up two new aural monsters. First, 'Will By Mouth' erupts in classic grind fashion. A buzz of brutal guitars and a crushing blast beat lay a foundation for Barney Greenway's vicious vocal attack. All of it uniquely bleeding together to paint a vivid picture of social unrest. Also on the release, Napalm Death offer the slower and textural new song 'No Impediment To Triumph (Bhopal).' A deeply resonant number that lyrically sheds light on the horrific Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984. Without question, 'No Impediment…' is truly a powerful and poignant moment for this legendary band."
Pre-orders are now available through Deathwish, and the track listing is as follows:
1. No Light Escapes - Converge
2. Wolverine Blues - Converge
3. Will By Mouth - Napalm Death
4. No Impediment To Triumph (Bophal) - Napalm Death More...

Last year we reported on anti-gay "heavy metal preacher" Bradlee Dean suing political commentator Rachel Maddow for defamation after she quoted Dean's views on homosexuality and Islamic Sharia law taken from a radio show.
Huffingtonpost.com is now reporting that the suit is being dropped and Bradlee Dean has been ordered to pay Maddow's legal fees. Dean's ministry website and his original statement about the lawsuit appear to currently be offline.
The original spot on Maddow's show prompting the lawsuit can be viewed below. Dean alleged the quote was taken out of context and that Maddow reported on it to purposefully harm the campaign of former Republican Presidential contender Michelle Bachmann, who eventually lost out to presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney. The quote in question from Dean was:
"Muslims are calling for the execution of homosexuals in America. They themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible, the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than the American Christians do. Because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination. If America won't enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that." More...

Israeli power metal band Desert has issued the following announcement about splitting with Sleaszy Rider Records:
"Desert's way had many unexpected turns and we sure had to make some tough decisions on our way, over the last 10 years.
"Splitting paths is never easy! Nevertheless, we are announcing that Desert has decided to depart from it's record label, Sleaszy Rider Records. This was a decision taken by the band, and all six of us agreed on it.
"Desert released it's debut album, Star of Delusive Hopes, through Sleaszy Rider Records, in January 2011, and it's been a great period for us, many awesome shows played, many great friends made, both in Israel and abroad! More...
Vampires Everywhere! has teamed up with AOL Noisecreep to premiere the music video for lead single, "Drug Of Choice." The track is taken from the band's new album, "Hellbound and Heartless," and was directed by Robby Starbuck [Escape The Fate, Asking Alexandria, Pierce The Veil]. Vocalist Michael Vampire explains:
"In a world that considers the human form imperfect without certain robotic attributes, we must all suffer the fate of being unwanted - unnecessary - and the feeling of being less than human. Every day we wake up and judge ourselves against certain commercial fed stigmas that force our minds to consider eating disorders, self-rejection and even suicide. Some people choose another form of self-gratification that helps them cope with the everyday struggle of being rejected and I feel this song was meant to define that notion. Whether you throw yourselves on others to feel relevant or whore yourselves out to feel instant bliss, we all struggle with being imperfect and trying to fit in.That being said, we will never fit into the so called commercial made model and thus we are all pieces to a puzzle that will never be completed."
Australia's 4ARM has been out on the band's first ever U.S. tour, dubbed the "Zombie Apocalypse" tour, alongside Casket For Cassandra, Prey For Sleep, and Deprivation. The group has now dropped off the trek, issuing the following statement:
"4ARM have been forced to walk off The Zombie Apocalypse Tour owing to sub-standard arrangements and communications on behalf of the tour promoters, Nemesis Records.
"As an example, the accompanying photo is of an actual venue at which the band was expected to perform. Needless to say, this was the final straw triggering 4ARM's exit from a poorly organised and misinformed operation. 4ARM warn all bands to exercise caution in dealings with Nemesis Records.
"4ARM apologizes to fans who were planning on attending any of the US dates, but would like to assure them of a return to the US under better circumstances." More...

Another chapter in the Blood Of The Black Owl musical saga is now complete. Bindrune Recordings/Glass Throat Recordings has targeted a July 31st co-release date for "Light the Fires"! on six-panel deluxe gatefold CD. Formed in 2004 by Chet W. Scott, Blood of the Black Owl is widely known for its ritualistic musical exploration, through the transcendence of his solo craft Cycle of the Raven Talons and the heavy drone folk duo The Elemental Chrysalis. You can stream" Light the Fires"! in its entirety over on Bandcamp, or below in the widget.
Bindrune Recordings will release Nechochwen's new six-song recording of ambient native American black metal "OtO" on vinyl LP format on July 31st . The rest is best left to the members of Nechochwen themselves:
The members of Nechochwen are proud to have our newest material released by Bindrune Recordings in the form of an LP titled "Oto". Where previous releases have been rooted in the historic and ancient past, "Oto" focuses on the guidance our ancestors bring to us in modern times. The album title could be called 'Ancestor' in English.
We consider this third Nechochwen album to be a "double EP" with Side A taking an organic, acoustic route and Side B shifting to an aggressive metal assault. The focus of this album is quite simple: ancestral wisdom and Native tradition is relevant and important in our overly complex and distracting present world. Never has man been so disconnected from the very soil he walks on. Just as there are two sides to this LP, there are two sides to all of us. One is at peace with our surroundings and the other attempts to conquer them. This album is a tribute to the balanced, ancestral self.
"Oto," in both conception and inception, is paradoxical in nature. It is the proverbial thread of the past thrust through the eye of the needle that is what we call the present day; a musical time machine that seamlessly shifts between two worlds that could be considered equally shrouded in obscurity. Visually, the title "O+O" invokes a sense of symmetry. Like a human face, it looks equal on both sides. But upon closer inspection, symmetry is but an illusion. Each side holds its own discerning features. Such is the case with this volume of Nechochwen. Two distinctly different notes of the same chord, embraced in a confluence of harmony.
After the infamous "The King That Never Was" music video, Cleveland act Alternate Reality has released a new clip for "Metal Coma." Check out the video below.
"Metal Coma" video was once again directed, edited, and produced by Alternate Reality frontman and Ohio lawyer Steve Delchin.
"The whole world was wondering what we would do to follow up our famous 'King' video," Delchin explains. "Would it be more castles? More wizards? More maidens? Well we decided on a new theme that pays homage to old school metalheads. I'm proud to announce the release of Alternate Reality's 'Metal Coma' video, which was shot on location at the world famous Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, and features over 100 actors drawn from Cleveland's metal scene, legal community, and entertainment industry.
"As always, the goal of our videos is to entertain, and I'm extremely grateful to all the volunteer actors in the Cleveland area who gave up their Sunday afternoon in April to be part of our video shoot. The response was overwhelming." More...

We are back, and we are extremely excited to see all of you again at our upcoming shows across North America! It's been a slow, but steady uphill climb getting back on our feet and getting ready to tour again. We are making sure we do everything right, and that we put together a killer show for you guys - our best yet! There is a lot of new material being worked on as well, but the focus right now is getting back on the road and re-establishing the band... which reminds me, more dates are coming for this year - but that's all I can say for now...
This is our first trip to the U.S. with our drummer Bryan and with our touring singer Amanda as well. They are both great musicians, tons of talent and drive - you will NOT be disappointed! We also have two great bands, Single Bullet Theory and Riksha, joining us on the Devastation tour. We are long time friends with Matt from SBT - should be killer! See you out there!

Anachronaeon has posted a video clip online welcoming new guitarist Kenneth Johansson, which can be viewed below. The band also commented:
"This is a video to welcome our new guitarist Kenneth. This is also the 4th time we rehearsed with him ever, so we decided to make this clip to officially 'out' him as our new permanent member and to show the world that we are learning our material for upcoming live situations. The song 'Mary' is taken from 'The Ethereal Throne' (2012)."
The extreme music world is about to get a much needed cinderblock to the face as the mighty Pig Destroyer has entered the studio to record a 5th full-length record and first album in over five years. The band is self-producing and recording the new album at guitarist Scott Hull's Visceral Sound Studios in Alexandria, VA.
According to a press release, the as-yet-untitled album is a "return to a raw, primitive sound and will feature 19 songs of Pig Destroyer' signature misanthropic grind." A late 2012 release is expected via Relapse Records.
This time around, Pig Destroyer has enlisted the help of Adam Jarvis (Misery Index) to lend inhuman drumming skills to the aural hatred. Now a full time member, Scott Hull commented on the addition of Adam:
"Tracking the drums happened this week and I'm honestly amazed at how Adam stepped up to the task of learning some challenging shit outside of his standard comfort zone. He came into the studio ready to destroy and destroy he did. And in the haze of long studio hours he never settled for a bad take. He's a real soldier. Adam has helped breathe new life into the band and we feel like we are starting fresh. Everyone here is excited for people to check out the new jams."
Additionally, Pig Destroyer has been confirmed for the UK's Damnation Festival this November with numerous other dates and festivals to be announced shortly.
Hungary's Angertea recently finished recording and is currently in the mixing process for the band's fourth album "Songs Exhaled." The band has also now revealed the cover artwork for the album, created by Anna Pukánszky.
Italian metalcore act Endless Fall has posted a brief teaser trailer online for the band's upcoming new EP "Sink Me Down The Grace." Check out the EP trailer below. You can find more info on Endless Fall over at the band's Facebook profile.
Endless Fall also commented:
"The band's will is to create a sound that could be at the same time aggressive and melodic, inspired by big American and European melodic death and metalcore bands. In about 2 years Endless Fall has reached satisfactory goals, such as the opening of Exilia show at Live Forum Assago and many others events.
"At the moment the band is working on composition of new songs to record. Endless Fall will come back soon with first official EP planned for the next months."
Trailer Park Sex has released a new video clip for the song "Fucking Nazis In Your Beautiful City," which is available below. The band also commented:
"These images are not meant to meet 'HD Band Video' standards, this is a cell phone shot street video, meant to show that fascism, police states, and social segregation are alive and well on our streets, while most people look away. GET OUT AND GET BUSY!"
Periphery has posted the song "Muramasa" online, which comes off the band's new album "Periphery II" and can be heard in the player below. Periphery's Misha Mansoor also commented on the track:
"This song is the first part of the 'Trilogy' on the album (Muramasa, Ragnarok, Masamune) and shares music, lyrics and themes with the other two songs.
"It was originally demoed a few years back and it was supposed to be a live intro that we were going to play when opening up with Zyglrox which is in a pretty specific tuning (AGCFAD) so this song is also in that tuning. That idea fell through, and the song was forgotten about.
"When we were putting the 'Trilogy' together, we were listening to old demos that we hadn't heard in a while and this popped up. Listening to it then, it hit us all that this song absolutely had to open the album, and that we had something very special and a little different from our usual fare." More...
Ireland's Mcgalligog has issued the following announcement about parting ways with Daragh Kenny:
"Dear Mcgalligog fans,
"Daragh here, with the saddest heart I must inform you of my departure from the band. My reasons are absolutely nothing musical or to do with in fighting as with most departures. Some of you may not know I have a condition called Cystic Fibrosis which has weakened me over time and has affected my playing to the point where I cannot go on with the gigging lifestyle, which kills me because I love it so much and leaving the band is the last thing I wish to do but it is my only option as to stay would completely bring the band down.
"I've met so many so many new friends since I joined in late 09 and I will always try to attend future gigs by the lads, I've been considering this a few months are really wanted to go off with a bang so im glad we got to concur Germany!
"To conclude, Mcgalligog are the future of irish metal, if you don't think so you are a foolish fool! I will always still be a part of the band and hang out with the lads, they've grown to be part of my close friends and nothing will change that."

Spain's Nexus has posted a drum playthrough video online for the song "Vanishing Points," which can be viewed below. The band also commented on the clip:
"Here's a drum playthrough of the song Vanishing Points, recorded at Cerebro Studios. We used Alex's main kit on this one, a Santa Fe Custom I: 20' Bass drum, Toms 10' 14', Snare 14', DW 5000 Accelerator Pedal and some Sabian cymbals: HHX, AA, HH, Pro Sonix, Stack China AAX 18' and Splash HHX Evolution 12'
"As for mics, we used a Shure sm57 on the snare, a prehistoric Akg on the bass drum and a Se electronics Z3300a and an Audio Technica Mb 4k on overheads. All though and M-Audio Profire 610.
"We did it in record time so there are some cymbals that don't match with the sound because of the take we chose. We didn't edit anything also to keep it raw so there are some mistakes here and there. For perfection we use Superior.
"No quantization, no edits, only (bat)man." More...
Norwegian act Borknagar has teamed up with Decibel Magazine to premiere a music video for "The Earthling," which is taken from the band's new album "Urd" (reviewed here). Check out the video via Decibel or in the player below.
Borknagar's mastermind Øystein G. Brun comments on the video as follows: "The lyrical core-theme of Borknagar has always been to portray the primal encounter between man and Nature, to project the poetry of Nature and to profess pondering about man's existence therein.
"Over the last couple of months we have been working with Twitchy Films to produce a video for the song 'The Earthling'. Thematically, this song really grips onto the backbone of the album 'Urd' and the band in general. As with our music, we wanted to do something really unique and special- and not a typical metal video. You won't see a raging metal band in dim lights with scary effects, but rather a video that sophistically portray the beauty, magnitude and power of the Nature. Kjetil Kolbjørnsrud and David Solbjørg at Twitchy Films spent allot of time and effort to get the right shots and the perfect vibe. They spent hours and days in the Norwegian wilderness to make this video a reality. As you know, Nature is untamable. Hands down for their efforts and the great work! Enjoy, folks!" More...
