Celebrating 28 years of existence, American heavy metal act Lizzy Borden is currently out on the road for the "Summer of Blood" tour. While Lizzy Borden tears up the U.S. on tour, the band members are also actively engaged in writing a new record to follow-up "Appointment with Death."
Just prior to hitting the touring circuit, band namesake and vocalist Lizzy Borden chatted with me about the upcoming shows and how the new album is shaping up.
You can also find Lizzy Borden's thoughts in the complete interview below about the band's desire to play Los Angeles again in the future, attempting to avoid influence from other metal bands, and perfecting a live performance to get a great crowd reaction every night. More...
The digital North American release of "Progression," the newest full-length from oppressive noise/sludge metal outfit Whitehorse is now available. In celebration of the release, Brooklyn Vegan is hosting a stream of the entire album at this location.
Originally released on CD earlier this year via Sweat Lung Records to coincide with Whitehorse’s 2011 American tour, the digital version of the album is now available via all major digital stores. The deluxe LP format is in the manufacturing stages now and will be released in the coming weeks.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Mechanical Disintegration (7:38)

4. Time Worn Regression (9:26)
5. Remains Unknown (10:45)
On Wednesday July 6th, Tim Carley, guitarist with The Rotted, severed the top of his finger when a 180kg flight case fell on it from a van. Tim received treatment at a hospital to remove the damaged parts of the finger, including the nail and the torn flesh. The doctors then sewed the remaining parts back together. The incident has left the top of Tim's bone unattached to the rest of his finger, which the doctors have said in time will heal.
In a statement Tim said, "The doctors have told me it will take at least 10 weeks to heal. When I asked her if I could still play the guitar, she replied 'I've heard your records, and to be honest I can't see this making much difference'. The rest of the guys in the band call me Timmy Iommi because of the riffs I wrote for the new album. Today, I got one step closer to walking in the great mans shoes. Unlike half the musicians in Metal magazines I'm not a moaning little girl, so I'm playing Obscene Extreme, Dong Open Air and Bloodstock with 3 fucking fingers and there's nothing that fate, karma and all the other bastards that mock me can do about it. The power of d-beats, blast beats and heavy metal shall never die!"
The accident happened at 11am and by 7pm, Tim was back home and rehearsing for Obscene Extreme Festival which the band will appear at as scheduled this Saturday. You can check out some (very unpleasant) photos of the accident in the video clip below.
Despite doctors orders, Tim and The Rotted will still be playing as scheduled at Obscene Extreme, Dong Open Air, and Bloodstock festivals in the coming weeks.

The 10-track long player was recorded at Grindstone Studios through 2011 with Scott Atkins producing. The "Echoes Of The Fallen" track listing is as follows:
1. To Live Not Remain
2. Blood In The Throne Room
4. Of Gods And Men
5. By Horror Haunted
6. Echoes Of The Fallen
7. The Evangelist
8. Sleep Soundly No More
10. Senora De Las Sombras
Grilled Burgers, Corona and a handful of all-American rock n roll were on the agenda for this year’s 4th of July celebration. The only Independence Day fixture mixing from this equation was fireworks, and due to unrelenting drought, Austinites would have to drive to a satellite community to participate in that tradition. The Spider House Café played host to these festivities. Billed as the “Summer of Sam,” the bill featured a variety of acts of varying style.
For the most part, “Summer of Sam” was a two-stage local band festival. The Sword is a national powerhouse, but still an Austin-based group. The club kept The Sword’s performance on the down low, printing a TBA special guest on the show’s flyer. By far the most popular metal/hard rock act in Austin, most of The Sword’s shows often sell out, so this word-of-mouth performance kept the small club from bulging at the seems, although the group still played to a packed house.
Situated near the campus of University of Texas (hook ‘em Horns), the Spider House Café features an indoor and outdoor stage and an outdoor patio that seems to never end. The event kicked off outdoors around 3 PM. An outdoor bar provided beer to wash down the smoker-grilled hamburgers. The burgers were the school-cafeteria-bulk variety, but costing a dollar a sandwich, nobody complained about the quality.
Arriving around 5 PM, my introduction to the outdoor stage came in the form of electro goth rockers Troller. The guy/girl combo merged vocals amidst heavenly tones of ethereal electronica. One patron told me the beautiful female vocals reminded him of the beautiful-but-deadly song of the mythical Siren. TA of Hod and Ancient VVisdom hailed the group’s music as “fuck music.” I couldn’t disagree with either of those descriptions. I don’t often see goth bands, so their performance was a nice change of pace. According to the band’s Myspace page, Troller is brand new. I expect to see their names on flyers for Austin’s goth-industrial club, Elysium. More...

Tampa bay's thrash/death metal band Generichrist is in the early stages of writing and recording a new full-length album titled "Taste Of Death." The album will be released later in the year on Philadelphia's Horror Pain Gore Death Productions.
Generichrist founder and vocalist Tony Anderson (Cemetery Slut, Skin Tomb) has reported the "Taste Of Death" record will feature ten or eleven tracks filled with the band's signature thrash/death and scum punk sound. The record will also have a guest appearance by horror icon Bill Moseley, who also appeared on the bands last EP "Strangulation Of A Twisted Mind" earlier in the year and on the 7" split with Ohio punk rock/noise outfit Fascist Insect.
"There is no release date set in stone yet but Chris Maraman has already laid down some of the drums and Loucks has started tracking the guitar so the blood is flowing" said Anderson.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of trance metallers Silent Descent. The band is about to start work on the follow up to the Duplicity album. The new album will be mixed by Frederick Nordstrom and released later this year.

Following the recent reissues of some of Neurosis' most seminal earlier albums -- "Souls At Zero" and "Enemy Of The Sun" -- Neurot Recordings is now prepared to unveil the details on the next installment of this reissue series, with a new pressing of the band's "Sovereign" EP.
Originally unveiled in 2000, the "Sovereign" EP was the first Neurosis release issued through the band's own then newly-founded Neurot Recordings, with the vinyl pressing handled by Hydra Head. In chronological terms, Sovereign served as a millennial segue between two of the band's full-lengths of that era; 1999's "Times Of Grace" and 2001's "A Sun That Never Sets."
The Neurot Recordings CD reissue includes a previously unreleased fifth track, with the inescapably feedback-tormented hymn "Misgiven" closing out the reissue, added as a special bonus to this repressing of the recordings. The reissue comes bound in an O-Card/jewel case setup like the other recent Neurosis reissues, with artwork completely redesigned and updated by Aaron Turner.
The reissue of "Sovereign" will be released in North America on September 12, 2011. The cover artwork and track listing can be viewed below.

Century Media has issued the following announcement about signing a new deal with Grave:
"Following Iced Earth and Borknagar, Century Media Records is proud to welcome back another band under the family's wings: Grave. One of the very first Swedish death metal bands alongside Nihilist, Morbid and Treblinka, the band initially released their first demo in 1986 under the band name Corpse, before they switched to Grave in 1988 and throughout all these years, they haven't changed their style very much, while other companions left the true Death Metal path along the way, to bigger or less success. But it's Grave's longevity and consistency that survived any trend since the late 80's and established them as one of the most important death metal bands now and forever."
Jens Prueter, Head of A&R Century Media Europe, comments on Grave's return: "First time I saw Grave was in May 1992 when my friend Robert Kampf (founder of CM) asked me if I wanted to get tattooed by Vinny Daze (R.I.P.) from Demolition Hammer, who was in town with Massacre and Grave. I went to the show with the intention to get my first tattoo but was blown away by Grave's pure Death Metal blast and ended up being way too drunk to still get inked later that night. I never tried to get tattooed again, but I stuck to Grave and I'm more than glad to welcome back Ola and his 'new' guys to Century Media."
Grave's singer, guitarist, and founding member Ola Lindgren adds: "We are very happy and psyched to announce that we have signed back to our old trusty workhorse Century Media Records! After some while of negotiations and a meeting in Dortmund/Germany the week before we played Death Feast Open air, we finally sealed the new deal. The future plan is to have a new Grave studio album out in 2012 and we will start putting the pieces together for that this fall, after the headlining tour of North America. We are truly looking forward to working together again with some of our old friends as well as all the new staff in the CM offices worldwide!"
Grave originally released the band's debut album "Into The Grave" 20 years ago (August 1991) as the tenth album release of the then young label Century Media. As founding member Ola Lindgren remembers in the "Swedish Death Metal" book by Daniel Ekeroth: "We sent our third demo to just every label there was. A lot of them kept in touch, such as Earache and Peaceville. But Century Media was working faster than any of them, so we just went with them without thinking too much about it. Century Media invited us down to Germany to record that single ('Tremendous Pain'), and it was only after that we started to discuss a deal. It felt amazing for us to go abroad, so in a way they lured us into their roster! But it turned out well."
While Century Media and Grave parted ways after 7 albums with the release of 2006's "As Rapture Comes," the band has launched the two albums "Dominium VIII" (2008) and "Burial Ground" (2010) since. In 2010 the band's 12CD+1DVD box-set "Death Unhallowed" (including all recordings from 1986 - 2006) was released in cooperation with Century Media and the early Corpse / Putrefaction / Grave demos have also most recently been released this year as a deluxe triple vinyl set entitled "Necropsy - The Complete Demo Recordings 1986-1991."

The album's title has been announced as "Fragments Of Death" and will be released on the 14th of October via Nuclear Blast. The title is explained by the vocalist in the following way: "Fragments Of Death stands for the ten musical pieces of a puzzle on the CD. The lyrics deal with different modes of death. There will be one song about the current incidents in Japan, for example."
