With tongues only partially planted in cheek, two man blackened death metal act Christgrinder has now dropped the new EP "Smoke Crack, Worship Satan." Members Baron Von Christgrinde and Cardinal Sinne conducted an interview with Metalunderground.com to discuss the new EP.
Commenting on the lyrical content and themes of the band, Cardinal Sinne chimed in, "I’m a firm believer that the best metal is well aware of how silly metal inherently is.... So where anti-religion crops up in our lyrics, although it’s delivered in a campy, amusing way, we take the underlying theme of the evil of religion seriously."
While explaining how the EP came about, the metallic heathens also discussed combining various influences into a single musical package, getting a crack-smoking pope onto a T-shirt, and the difficulties of finding musicians willing to play death metal in small towns. More...

Philadelphia death metal battalion Goreaphobia has joined forces with Dark Descent Records for the release of the band's new full-length, "Apocalyptic Necromancy." Slated for release on August 9th, 2011, the follow-up to 2009’s "Mortal Repulsion" was recorded, mixed, and mastered by drummer Jim Roe and features new guitarist VJS (Kult ov Azazel, Crimson Moon, Demoncy, etc.).
Commented Dark Descent label head Matt Calvert of the signing: “When the opportunity presented itself to release the new Goreaphobia album, the choice was easy. Those who are familiar with the underground know that Goreaphobia has a longstanding reputation of producing some of the filthiest death metal around. I’m more than excited to be a part of this new chapter of the band. After speaking to each member personally, it became very apparent that Goreaphobia and Dark Descent Records are a perfect fit and I look forward to helping spread their message to not only long-time fans, but new ones as well.”
Added guitarist Alex Bouks: “Myself and the rest of Goreaphobia are very excited and pleased to be working with Matt and the rest of amazing team at Dark Descent. The label is off to great things. This is a very fresh and positive start for us to be releasing our new record with what I believe to be the next great metal label around today.”

Finnish progressive death metal super group Barren Earth recently finished a stint in the studio recording the band's second full-length album. You can check out Metalunderground.com's interview with the band during the recording process by heading to this location.
Barren Earth has now also checked in with a report of the band's performance at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival. The blog post from the band reads as follows:
"After the 5-week tour of North America, there was a pause in concert activities for us. Wisely so, as time was spent on rehearsing new material and getting ready for the studio instead. Our first show in over 3 months was to take place on June 11 at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, Germany, immediately after the album recording sessions.
"As mentioned earlier, Sami was having a gig with Kreator that same day, so filling in for him was guitar maestro Markus Vanhala (Omnium Gatherum), once again.
"On Saturday morning the alarm clock was set for 04:00 am, so it was a pretty early rise. But earliness is a relative concept, since after calling a cab and picking up Mikko at 05:00, it was apparent that for him the hour was actually very late, since he was just coming from the bar…
"Our flight was from Helsinki to Berlin. Considering the earliness/lateness of the hour, I decided to get some sleep on the plane. Unfortunately, this was not to be an option. Being as we were seated behind and in front of families with small children, and crying small children at that, sleep kept eluding me. And when I say crying, I don’t mean as in sobbing, but more like as in screaming, or actually like as in hysterically shrieking.
"I have never been to a pig slaughter house, nor have I ever heard what kind of sound a pig makes whilst being slaughtered, but listening to the high pitched screams delivered on an equally high amplitude, I can’t imagine swine slaughter sounding too much different from the sounds heard on that plane. So, definitely no chance of dozing off. More...
In the first of three installments, members of the Dutch symphonic death metal act Mayan offer some insight into the tracks that comprise the band’s debut album, "Quarterpast," which is set for North American release on July 12th. The first part of the track breakdown can be viewed below.
01 | Symphony Of Aggression: “The most complex song, guitar-wise & the easiest to record. Frank [Schiphorst, guitarist] used a Bo-El MC7 with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge, and for the clean part a different MC7 with a thicker neck. We have Floor [Jansen of REVAMP, ex-AFTER FOREVER], Simone [Simons of EPICA], Henning [Basse of SONS OF SEASONS], Mark [Jansen, MAYAN & EPICA guitarist/founding member] and Arien [van Weesenbeek, MAYAN & EPICA drummer] already singing in this opening track. During the recordings, we were very open minded and used all singers' qualities.”
02 | Mainstay Of Society (In the eyes of the law: Corruption): “Originated from the outro guitar lick of track one’s ‘Symphony Of Aggression.’ Frank jammed this lick at the end of ‘Symphony’ and Mark wrote the base of ‘Mainstay’ in just one afternoon, based only on this lick. This one also includes the hardest guitar riff to play. It's a track with mainly grunts, just some female vocals by Simone in the chorus.”
03 | Quarterpast: “The boys choir was recorded in London for our album, originally to be used in another song; however, the way they performed made us decide not to and put different music underneath, to give it an extra eerie feel.”
04 | Course Of Life: “Typical spontaneous song written at Mark´s place around the same time a multi-track fart-song was recorded. You don’t wanna know. Mark pressed ‘play’ on that certain recording later on, windows open. Great to see the faces on those people on their bicycles passing by!”
You can also visit the Mayan landing page at this location and listen to “Drown The Demon” and “Celibate Aphrodite” in their entirety. Mayan is comprised of:
Mark Jansen – Composer, Grunts & Screams
Jack Driessen – Keyboards & Screams
Frank Schiphorst – 7-String Guitars
Ariën van Weesenbeek – Drums & Grunts
Rob van der Loo – Bass
Isaac Delahaye – Guitars
Periphery has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with guitarist Alex Bois:
"Hey Guys! We have some sad news to share. Alex Bois and Periphery have decided to part ways. This is truly a sad day for Periphery, because Alex has been with us since the beginning, and he is like a brother to us. We're going to do everything we can to make the most out of this unfortunate situation, and soldier on like we always have in the past when faced with setbacks.
"In regards to all of our upcoming shows and tours, worry not! We will have special guest artists filling in for Alex, so our touring plans will not be changing whatsoever. Throughout all of this, we really appreciate your support and understanding.
"See you soon."

Evile will be releasing the new album "Five Serpent's Teeth" on September 26th, 2011. The band has now revealed the album's artwork, which can be viewed below. Evile's Matt Drake commented on the new album cover:
"So here it is, the artwork for Five Serpent's Teeth. As is always the case with Evile, we try and do things a bit differently from what we've done before, so we fancied something a bit more design-orientated this time around. It's been done by a great artist by the name of Gustavo Sazes and he really came through for us as we were struggling to find something that visually accompanied the music, so hats off to the man! Make what you will of any meaning you think the cover may hold, much the same as you will be able to do with the lyrical content of the album; we know what it means to us, so enjoy!"
Evile also recently posted a cover online of the Lady GaGa track "Born This Way," which can be heard by heading over here.

Australian thrash metal band Truth Corroded has signed a European / Japanese deal with Ultimhate Records for the release of the band's latest album "Worship the Bled." The label will release the album on September 16th, with the band following up the release with a European tour in early 2012.
Commenting on the deal, Truth Corroded bass guitarist Greg Shaw states: "The band is extremely pleased to be a part of the label. Ultimhate Records have a great and diverse range of bands, and we feel our sound has found the perfect label to represent us in Europe and Japan. Furthermore, like our Australian label (Truth Inc. Records) it is run by musicians who know the industry from going into battle for their own music. After years of hard work to get where we are it is great to be working with a label that has a shared experience and work ethic. The label has been very supportive and plans for touring in support of the album in Europe were put into place immediately. For us this is an aim we have long fought for, and we look foward to taking our music to Europe and building our profile further."
"Worship the Bled" features Kevin Talley (Six Feet Under, Misery Index, Daath, Chimaira) on drums and was mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren of Scar Symmetry at Black Lounge Studio in Avesta, Sweden. Artwork for the album was designed by Bjoern Gooses of Killustrations (Aborted, Dew Scented).

Tri-State five piece death/thrash metal band Legionary has announced it will be entering the studio shortly to record the band's debut album "Arcane Divisions." The band has also posted the following blog post online regarding the upcoming recording sessions:
"So earlier this week, Frank and Mike visited Dave over at Little Door to set up the click tracks, tempos, and time signatures for all 10 tracks. Even with just one foot in the door, the excitement has already began to sink in for all of us...
"It seems that we all have a child like adoration for studio time. Tony and myself were recording virgins during the process of creating the demo last summer with Dave but the experience was definitely far from painful. For a group of dudes who had only met about a month earlier, it was actually an extremely satisfying and awesome time for all of us... Everyone expects a bit more stress doing 10 songs since we happen to be 5 of the most obnoxious perfectionists when it comes to this music stuff, but that's quite alright!
"Frank will be bringing his drum set by the studio some time this weekend so that everything will be ready for him to begin recording drums on the 11th... The way things are looking at the moment, we would HOPEFULLY be finishing up all recording by the first week of August before handing the tracks over to Frank's uncle 'The digital doctor' for the mixing/mastering process... Now we have the very painful task of waiting to get started on this beast! More...

The bands associated with the tour this year are as follows: Norma Jean, Sleeping Giant, The Chariot, War of Ages, Close Your Eyes, Texas In July, I The Breather, The Great Commission, As Hell Retreats, and Sovereign Strength. Regardless of your stance on religion, you have to commend these bands for their drive. On July 1st, I was on hand to catch the first date of this 2011 tour. More...
Dolk, vocalist for Norwegian black metal act Kampfar, has announced that he will begin his new book looking at the history of the black metal genre. Dolk commented on the project by saying;
"This was not supposed to be revealed yet. But I decided to do so through my personal [online] profile. Even my bandmates don't know this yet. But I have now finally started my longtime plan to do/write a book. This has been an idea I had for ages now, due to all the questions I get from the 'media' about this theme/topic/period of time.
"I have been so tired, in a way, to tell parts of this story without being able to tell the whole story. So the book will be about the early years in black metal and about my side of the story of it all. This book will step on someone's toes, that's for sure. But it's my side of the story. This book is for those who are interested (and it's some sort of a soul and mind surfer for me personal). To the rest…Well, I don't give a fuck! It's all very early in the process yet. But I have decided to go all the way now.
"Anyway…This has been a long process for me and a big step to make it official. Besides my woman, you are the first ones to know this at all.
