After recently breaking its silence and then splitting with drummer Mirka Rantanen, Thunderstone announced the departure of vocalist Rick Altzi, who was forced to depart due to his obligations with Masterplan.
The announcement reads: "Thunderstone has parted ways with singer Rick Altzi, who joined the band in 2009 and is featured on the much-acclaimed album ‘Dirt Metal’. As many of you know, Rick recently joined our friends Masterplan and is currently touring with them. The band would like to thank Rick for an amazing job on ‘Dirt Metal’ and the countless fun times on tour. Cheers brother and good luck with your future endeavours!"
Rick Altzi commented: "It's with mixed feelings that I and the rest of Thunderstone have decided to part ways. On the one hand I really loved the album ‘Dirt metal’ and feel proud of what we achieved. On the other hand I now realise I wouldn't have had the time that a great band like Thunderstone deserves. I wish the guys a great future." More...
U.K. death metal alchemists Grave Miasma have completed work on their debut full-length LP, which they’ve christened "Odori Sepulcrorum." Profound Lore Records comments:
"Following up the 'Exalted Emanation' debut EP and the 'Realm Of Evoked Doom' compilation EP respectively, 'Odori Sepulcrorum' is a audio summoning where occult progressive death metal levitation exalts itself as Grave Miasma have created an album that will serve its purpose as a pillar in the realm of death metal artistry.
"Harnessing that uncanny dark, cryptic, and haunting atmosphere through unrelenting death metal hypnosis and ambience, where the clarity and power of the production and instrumentation does not become forsaken, 'Odori Sepulcrorum' is an album which embraces the ancient death metal spirit in its most powerful aesthetic while creating an enrapturing unparalleled death metal vision that’s solely defines itself as Grave Miasma’s oeuvre. The result being an opus that will be recognized as the death metal milestone for our cursed age.
"Produced, engineered, captured and mixed on analog format through the means of vintage equipment by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios, along with being graced with artwork courtesy of Denis Forkas, 'Odori Sepulcrorum' is set to be unleashed in conspiracy with Germany’s Sepulchral Voice officially on 13.9.13 (Sept 17th in North America for retail/distributor adherence)." Today Oregon funeral doom legion Ephemeros offers up another track of gut-wrenching glory. Titled "Stillborn Workhorse," the hymn comes by way of the band’s soul-searing "All Hail Corrosion" full-length.
Doom down your week with the sounds of “Stillborn Workhorse,” now playing courtesy of Cvlt Nation in the player below.
Called “the sonic equivalent of oxidizing razors and toppling gravestones,” by Pitchfork, All Hail Corrosion nods its sullen head to the likes of Mournful Congregation, Loss, and Asunder whilst delving into deeper, darker, more acerbic death/sludge-bent territories.
Founded by members of Nux Vomica, Graves At Sea, Elitist, and Bastard Feast, Ephemeros’ forthcoming "All Hail Corrosion" is set for release on CD and digitally via Seventh Rule on August 20th, 2013 and on vinyl through Parasitic Records.
"All Hail Corrosion" was tracked and mixed by Fester (Atriarch, Stoneburner) at Haywire Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering. More...
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter will return with a new double-album successor to "Moral & Wahnsinn" (2011) on May 30th, 2014. Nuclear Blast comments:
"The inspiration for it was brought home by the band from all around the world. Trips through the Everglades, the snow-covered French Alps, the legendary Giant Mountains and a rehearsal room on a house boat."
"The more uncommon the place, the more appealing it appears to us," front man Fuchs summarizes. The band is also granting fans insight into the origination process in the form of a colorfully illustrated presentation. Check it out right here.
Avatarium, the brand new band featuring legendary Swedish doom metal pioneer Leif Edling, has signed a worldwide record deal with Nuclear Blast.
Avatarium will release its first sonic sign of life on September 20th, 2013 in the form of 12” mini LP "Moonhorse," featuring the title track, the B-side "Boneflower," as well as an acoustic cover version of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs."

Brazil's Soulfly has revealed the cover art for the band's forthcoming studio effort, "Savages," which is set for release on October 4th, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
The artwork was created by artist Paul Stottler. Furthermore, mainman and metal legend, Max Cavalera, commented on the album:
"Recording 'Savages' was an amazing experience for me. I was so excited to work with Terry Date, whom I consider to be one of the best producers of all time. He has done some great records and we have been in contact for awhile since he mixed three Soulfly albums in the past. He came to see Soulfly whenever we played in Seattle, and we finally made it work that he would be the producer for 'Savages.'
"My teammates were awesome. Marc did some crazy guitar noises and we did a 'Mars Part Two' at the end of 'El Comegente' - it's very Led Zeppelin influenced and Marc kicked some ass on it. I wrote 'El Comegente' with Tony Campos. It's in Portuguese and Spanish and it's about Vargas - a Venezuelan cannibal from the 80's. He is the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes. Crazy shit! I worked for the first time on a full album with my son, Zyon. Before recording the album I first worked closely at home with him in preproduction, and it was great to spend weeks on the songs with Zyon, shaping the sound of the record. Zyon did a great job and he hits really hard just like his uncle Iggor - it was amazing recording with my son. A whole record! A dream come true for a father whose life is dedicated to metal. 'Savages' is a celebration of all that.” More...
Enabler has been off the road too long -- nearly two-and-a-half weeks now -- and for the Beer City assassins this is completely unacceptable.
After inundating Europe with Rotten Sound and Martyrdöd in March of this year, Enabler blasted the North American Midwest throughout much of April and May, and then earlier this month did a ten-date tour of Australia. Now, as August begins, the quartet will embark on a seven-city East Coast tour based around a performance at this year’s massive This Is Hardcore fest in Philadelphia. Dates are as follows:
8/06/2013 Cobra Lounge - Chicago, IL
8/07/2013 Dreadful Sounds - Columbus, OH
8/08/2013 The Shop - Pittsburgh, PA w/ Tragedy
8/09/2013 Electric Factory - Philadelphia, PA @ This is Hardcore Fest
8/10/2013 Acheron - Brooklyn, NY w/ Citizens Arrest
8/11/2013 Elk’s Lodge - Cambridge, MA w/ Livver

Vancouver's punk zombie hunting riot band Kill Matilda has issued a studio update on recording with with producer Garth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Mudvayne, The Melvins) for the second time with the band's upcoming yet to be titled EP. Vocalist / guitarist Dusty Exner states:
"We are honoured to be going back into the studio this fall with Garth to complete our EP. We have recorded a few fan favourites and will be recording some new material that we've written since our return to the West coast. It is as yet still under wraps but we know it's going to make our fans weak in the knees!"
The EP will be the follow up to the 2011 debut full-length "I Want Revenge," recorded at Vancouver’s Nimbus Studios. More...
Beauty in the Suffering - the newly launched electro-metal sutdio project for producer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Dietrich Thrall - is officially in mixing mode for music the band plans to introduce to fans starting this fall with the release of "The Crazies."
"The pace is quickening as we begin the jog towards fall - these are exciting times and I am extremely happy to be with you all in the here and now," commented DieTrich.
The band is currently locked away with Skinlab guitarist Provo Provenzano at Pirated Sounds Studio located in Oklahoma City, OK mixing the first three songs which will drop this fall. The band will immediately follow up the digitally released singles by beginning production on a full-length debut album with a release date targeted for sometime in 2014.
After spending the majority of 2012 locked away in a personal studio writing, arranging, and programming 40+ songs, Dietrich began laying the foundation for a new musical manifesto. Chris Emery of American Head Charge was immediately recruited and quickly tracked 7 songs in a marathon 15 hour drum session while Angel Bartolotta contributed drums for "The Crazies."
As Dead in the Dirt's scathing debut LP, "The Blind Hole," nears release in less than a week via Southern Lord, today the band discharges one of the album's most abrasive and violently discordant tracks.
Stream "No Chain" in the player below courtesy of Metalhammer.co.uk. The following press release was also issued about the new album:
"The Blind Hole surges with DITD’s downtuned, caustic riffs and pummeling blastbeats, and delivers their most morose and tonally oppressive material yet through twenty-two tracks in under twenty-four minutes. Though fueled by crushing distortion, the album boasts incredibly clear production values, recorded at Bricktop Recording Studio with Andy Nelson (Weekend Nachos) in Chicago this April, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Nails, All Pigs Must Die, Baptists, Sleep). The cover was illustrated by Bo Orr as with the band’s Fear EP. Listen to the track "No Chain" via Metal Hammer for further proof that the band can and will crush everything in their path with their devastatingly heavy crust attack." More...
Chicago thrashers Diamond Plate have teamed up with Decibel Magazine.com to unleash "Walking Backwards," the first track off their new album, "Pulse," due out August 20th via Century Media Records/Earache Records. For a preview of this upcoming release, "Walking Backwards" can be heard below.
Featuring artwork by Gustavo Sazes (Morbid Angel, Sepultura), "Pulse" is Diamond Plate's second full-length album, and it was once again recorded with producer Neil Kernon (Judas Priest, Nevermore) in the band's hometown at Studio Chicago. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"While their critically acclaimed debut, Generation Why?, was a strategically orchestrated thrash attack, Pulse was written with an emphasis on creating songs from jamming. This 'play what thou wilt' attitude, in addition to 19 year old Matt Ares' charismatic voice, has enabled the band to cover a much wider range of influences on their sophomore effort that promises to please new and old Diamond Plate fans alike."

Comedy rockers Psychostick are at it again, poking fans with a music video for "Sadface," a social media song taken from the band's fifth and latest release "Space Vampires VS Zombie Dinosaurs in 3-D."
Psychostick guitarist Josh 'The J' Key comments: "This song declares war on terrible, bitchy, whiney, pointless, attention-seeking posts. If you need someone to listen to your problems, go see a therapist (No... REALLY, stop reading this and go talk to a professional RIGHT NOW).
"What I love about this video is the feel. We wanted to feel like you were being yelled at you through the internet to knock that shit off. Another great thing about this video is how many hidden gems are in it. If you pause the video and take time to read all the mock comments, you will be greatly rewarded." More...

The mighty GWAR is poised to return to the world of man as today the group announces the first leg of the massive "Madness at the Core of Time" world tour, in support of new album, "Battle Maximus," which is out September 17th on Metal Blade Records.
The tour, which features a completely brand-new show full of slavering creatures and deserving victims, is set to kick off October 2nd in Columbus, Ohio and runs through November 17th in Washington, DC. Tickets go on sale this Friday August 2nd.
Said verbose front-thing Oderus Urungus, "Our loyal slaves have been laboring ceaselessly to create the ultimate GWAR show, and for this they have received nothing but abuse and torment. I know our legions of loyal fans will be delighted to experience a whole new cast of ridiculous characters, all of whom shall meet exceedingly messy ends to the soundtrack of slaughter that our new album shall provide. Get ready world...GWAR is coming!"
GWAR shall be joined by deathcore heavyweights and label-mates Whitechapel, Richmond, VA thrashers Iron Reagan (featuring Municipal Waste singer Tony Foresta) and A Band of Orcs (which is actually a band of Orcs).
The tour comes after an intense lead-up period, feautring the debut of a GWAR beer and GWAR B-Q sauce, several mini-tours and convention appearances, the second season of Oderus on FEAR.net's sitcom Holliston, and finally the fourth annual GWAR-B-Q. Tickets and more information on the GWAR-B-Q can be found at this location. More...
The Ocean is currently making its way through North America as part of the seventh annual Summer Slaughter Tour, performing in support of latest album "Pelagial" (reviewed here).
The progressive sound contortionists are leveling stages nightly alongside the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Norma Jean, Cattle Decapitation, Revocation, Aeon and more.
Founding guitarist Robin Staps comments of the trek: "Summer Slaughter has been a blast so far… we struggled with some technical issues in the beginning and, and finding a setup/routine that works within those 10 minutes changeovers wasn't easy, but we're there now, and have been thoroughly enjoying the past few shows. More good stuff to come!"
The Ocean has added a number of last minute U.S. headlining shows on the Summer Slaughter off days which include performances in Hartford, Omaha, and Vancouver as well as a very special meet & greet on August 6 in Brooklyn, New York at Saint Vitus Bar.
Elaborates Staps: "On August 6th, we will all be hanging out at Saint Vitus bar in Brooklyn, where we played a great show in 2011 with support from Pelagic Records recording artists Family, and The Binary Code, as some of you may remember. We are stoked to see these two awesome bands perform at Saint Vitus Bar again, as well as Black Table. Rumors have it that there is this band called "Pelagial" playing as well, we're very curious to find out what that is all about… we will all be there to sign whatever stuff you bring, preferably foreheads, melons or live animals, so come say hi if you're from the NYC area!" Massacre Records has checked in with the following announcement about inking a deal with Hatsphere:
"We are damn proud to announce the signing of the Danish thrash metal legends Hatesphere! Just in case you aren't familiar with them - which is a shame! - here's an introduction to the band: Formed in 2000 by guitarist Peter "Pepe" Hansen, Hatesphere quickly overpowered the Danish metal scene.
"Hatesphere's first three albums, 'HateSphere' (2001), 'Bloodred Hatred' (2002), and 'Ballet Of The Brute' (2004) upgraded the band’s status from local sensation to Europe’s hottest up and coming thrash quintet. 'The Sickness Within' followed in autumn 2005 - after the band inked a deal with SPV Records - and received raving reviews from the worldwide metal media!
"Hatesphere already toured worldwide, sharing stages with bands like The Haunted, Exodus, Kreator, Behemoth or Morbid Angel. They also appeared on festivals such as Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Roskilde Festival and many, many more.
"Furthermore, Hatesphere made history by being the first Danish band to tour China! 'Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes,' the fifth studio album of the band, shot up to position 26 on the Danish National Music Charts!
"After supporting Dismember on their European tour, Hatesphere released 'To The Nines,' produced by Tue Madsen, which was yet another incredibly well received album. With the album, Hatesphere also won the award for the best metal album at the Danish Metal Awards in 2010! 'The Great Bludgeoning' (2011) entered the Danish National Charts on #40 and won the prestigious Danish Gaffa Award for the best hard rock album!
"Hatesphere are now ready to release their 8th studio album 'Murderlust,' which will be the first release on Massacre Records!" More...

Italian symphonic metal band Sound Storm posted an update on the progress of the writing for the band's third release and follow up to "Immortalia" (see review here). The update was posted on the band's Facebook page and reads as follows:
"NEW ALBUM UPDATES: SUMMER CAMP!
"We'd like you to inform that since August - between Rommelrock fest and Into the Limelight fest - we will be off to a sort of summer camp for the new (it's the 3th!) album pre-production!
"Most of the songs are already composed and ready to blast some ears, so we'll have a lot of work to do on the lyrics and orchestral/choir arrangements. The new album is a natural follow-up of 'Immortalia', but with a lot of new ideas, concepts and...dark epicness! Guitar riffs are probably the heaviest ever done and the drums are the fastest that Federico ever played (Valerio feels the blame for that..).
"Soon we will disclose new details about the new themes, we cannot say more at the moment but...We are sure that you will like it!
"And of course, you will be informed on the release date but it's a bit early for that...
"We are more than excited on the new stuff, and we cannot wait to show you guys what we have been working for the last - hard - months.
"Meanwhile Philippe is warming up his vocal cords...
"Stay tuned for the Summer Camp diary report!"
