My personal confessions are less about what I enjoy that would shred my credibility through a wood chipper and more about which bands I used to despise that I'd never talk shit about today. Namely, I used to really hate System of a Down, Iron Maiden, Behemoth and Chimaira. After only hearing a handful of songs from each, I decided that all were overrated before actually giving their discography a real chance.
Holy shit did I regret that later on after listening to Chimaira's self-titled album, Iron Maiden's “Powerslave”, “Zos Kia Cultus,” and the entirety of “Toxicity” (although I still maintain that “Chop Suey” has always been overrated and overplayed and I'm not a fan of the title track on “Resurrection”).
It's hard to look at yourself after talking shit about music that you were completely ignorant about. Eventually, I moved on to "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son,” “Resurrection,” and “Steal This Album” and realized that I was talking out my ass and sounded like one of those guys who calls eurodance “techno” but has never listened to speedcore or confuses hip-hop with R&B. Arizona's American Standards has posted the following announcement online about lineup changes:
"It's with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of both our drummer Geoff and guitarist Brennen. Both have been with American Standards since its inception. They leave on a good note with the reason that they're at different points in their lives with different priorities then when the band started. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to any future projects.
"With that being said, their last show will be our EP release September 14th at Havana Cabana (formerly Rocky Point Cantina). You can expect a new single and video from the EP early August.
"Going forward we've been fortunate enough to pick up the very talented Craig Burch (The Last March Of The Ents) and Mike Cook (Your Young/The Author) to fill their spots.
"With these new members we've already began writing a follow up full length album due out early 2014. As a decision by the band, we plan to release this album without backing from We Are Triumphant due to disagreements in artist development and vision. Still Life and the respective merchandise will continue to be available through Victory Records.
"We'll continue to play all booked dates as well as have several tour announcements in the near future. As always, we thank everyone for their continued support."

Serianna just wrapped up time in studio for new album "Define Me" with producer Josh Schroeder, who is responsible for new albums from For Today and The Color Morale.
The 13 song album "Define Me" will be released on August 13th, 2013via Bullet Tooth through Ingrooves/Fontana. The first music video for "Exist To Outlive" will premiere on VEVO this July and the band kicks off a U.S. tour with In Dying Arms on August 6th.
Guitarist and songwriter Kris Meyer-Ruef commented on the new album: "The Inheritors record was almost 3 years in the making by the time we had the pleasure of releasing it on Bullet Tooth. It seems only natural that at least 4 years since the birth of that record, Serianna is due for serious growth. Over the past year, we have gone through a major line up change and thought hard about the future of our band. It was pretty apparent to any fan of our band before that we were heavily rooted in metal core, influenced by the bands that could riff the tightest and fastest. We operated like a well oiled machine, tight and uniform. But that was just the problem: we operated like a machine. This new record has given us all the opportunity to pour our hearts into our music in a way that we felt was impossible before. Every one of us has a voice, and you will hear that through every song on this record. We went heavier, groovier, darker and more honest. I know deep down that kids are still looking for something real to fall in love with. We genuinely believe these songs are just that." More...
With over 70 shows booked so far in 2013, New Jersey trio Old Wounds continues its reign of terror this summer with another U.S. tour, this one focusing heavily on the western half of the country.
The centerpiece of the tour is a coveted slot on The Power of the Riff Festival in Los Angeles, alongside The Obsessed, Final Conflict, From Ashes Rise, and more. Other dates see Old Wounds play with bands such as Every Time I Die, Terror, and KEN Mode.
The tour coincides with the release of Old Wounds' new split seven-inch with upstate New York's Trenchfoot, out August 13th on Melotov Records. The following press release was also issued:
"Two of the East Coast's most ferocious young hardcore bands, Old Wounds and Trenchfoot are like-minded outfits breathing new life into the crushing metallic vibes of their older brothers' generation. While Old Wounds nod to the exhilarating charge of crushers like Buried Alive and Turmoil, Trenchfoot play an even darker game, in line with the depressive anthems of Tragedy or Cursed. Both bands' material for the Melotov split was recorded by Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations (Pulling Teeth, Full of Hell). Melotov releases the split August 13th on vinyl and as a digital download." More...
Invisible Oranges is now presenting the premiere of "Captain Keith Pierce," a new slice of the supernatural riff conjuring that fills Phantom Glue's second album, "A War of Light Cones." Stream the track through the player below or at Invisible Oranges here.

Phantom Glue's second album and first for Black Market Activities, "A War of Light Cones" was produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio (Torche, Doomriders). Ballou's connection to Phantom Glue dates back to the 90s when he and frontman Matt Oates were bandmates in The Huguenots.

Oakland-based harbingers Lycus will unleash the ominous curse of their debut LP "Tempest" next week on July 9th via 20 Buck Spin. The full album is now available for streaming at CVLT Nation here or in the player below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"With a honed, masterful approach to their songwriting and delivery, Lycus seemingly adds new vitality to the funeral doom genre with Tempest, the album’s three expansive tracks consuming nearly forty-two minutes of your soul with each listen.
"Recorded and mixed at hometown Earhammer Studios with Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Pallbearer, Samothrace, High On Fire), the album is literally drowning in an ocean-sized pool of incredibly descriptive accolades from media outlets.
"While references to Mournful Congregation, Ahab, Thergothon, Noothgrush and My Dying Bride are inevitable, Lycus deliver both caustic and clean riffs and interject multiple vocal styles and additional instrumentation which elevate the material on Tempest to their own place among the scene’s veterans and forerunners." Australian visionary metal act Ne Oblivscaris, which was nominated as one of the best newcomers of 2012 in our annual awards, has now seen the song "And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope" included in a teaching curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
The song will undergo a compositional analysis by Professor Matthew Hindson, Chair of Composition at the Conservatorium. Matthew Hindson is a classical composer whose works have been performed by ensembles and orchestras throughout the world. His recent ballet music, for example, has been presented by such companies as the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet and the National Ballet of Japan.
Professor Hindson commented on the event, saying: "I will be presenting 'And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope' to the composition students at the Conservatorium next semester as an exemplar in structure, mixing timbres, meters, modes, how to approach virtuosity, sound and noise, extended performance and techniques. The students will need to study 2 technical aspects of what Ne Obliviscaris have done in their music, and then use these techniques in their own classical music compositions."
The Professor continues: "It is my pleasure to introduce such high quality music making to our students, alongside other music by composers including Beethoven, Gershwin, Steve Reich and Peter Sculthorpe. Musicians deserve to hear the music of Ne Obliviscaris, and the music of many other metal bands, in order to appreciate the compositional complexity that lies within it, no matter what their musical tastes." Norwegian act Arvas recently signed with Aeternus Tenebrarum Music Foundation for the release of the "Into The Realm Of The Occult" album later this year. Now the band has also checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Fordervelse:
"Fordervelse is no longer a part of the band... Now, I guess one wonders why I came to this conclusion, to 'fire' a long time friend and partner. Well there are reasons for everything, and there are facts to the matter one simply don't want to share with everyone simply because they are supposed to stay between the involved parties.
"This is between Fordervelse and I and of course it is tragic and sad, for the band and for him, and even for me. I see no reason to comment this matter any further. I wish him good luck in future projects he may join in on and so forth.
"As for Arvas now, I will go on, the two next album releases will be released as scheduled under the ATMF banner. Arvas will also continue to play live sooner or later!"

Austrian metal act Gallows Pole announced that the band will release its seventh album "And Time Stood Still" on July 26, 2013 through Pure Rock Records (a division of Pure Steel Records).
In the 80's, there were some Austrian bands like No Bros, Speed Limit and Gallows Pole, who played classic melodic heavy metal, but they couldn't really compete with the German bands. So, many people never knew that Gallows Pole released some really popular songs on the first two releases "In Rock We Trust” (1981) and “We Wanna Come Home” (1989). With "And Time Stood Still," you will find all the typical trademarks of the quintet: melodic hard rock/traditional metal that meets the unique and authentic, powerful vocals of Alois Binder.
The track list for "And Time Stands Still" is as follows:
1. And Time Stood Still
2. Summer Rain
4. Here And There
5. Rock This Town
6. Take Me To The Heaven
