The track features guest keyboards by Dave Castro and Oreste Giacomini along with the ending choir vocal line by Alessandro Karabelas.

The band adds:

"This is the song that was the most 'anticipated' by fans during our latest live shows and then became a must in every setlist. It’s a real hymn with its solid main riff and keyboard melodies. During the last stages of production, we finalized everything with the choir, recorded with all our vocalist friends, and we got exactly what we were looking for... a majestic arrangement for a solid metal riffing." Korn Uploads Charlie Daniels Cover

Korn have shared a cover of The Charlie Daniels Band classic "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" [feat. YelaWolf] exclusively via Bandcamp today here.

All proceeds from the track will be donated to Awakening Youth, a nonprofit organization devoted to young people faced with the loss of a parent due to divorce, addiction, death, being surrendered for adoption, or other reasons.

Over a galloping bounce, the band rip dueling guitar leads as distortion bleeds into eerie feedback. Frontman Jonathan Davis tears through this timeless story, trading off verses with YelaWolf as they take on the roles of "The Devil" and "Johnny." The fiddle battle for Johnny's soul has never sounded quite like this. Recorded during the sessions for the critically acclaimed chart-topping epic The Nothing, the track honors the late Charlie Daniels.

"I've always said it, but country music is some of the darkest ever," said Davis. "Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and, of course, Charlie Daniels all turned pain into some really powerful music that sounded alive. 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' is a classic story, and we wanted to release it now to help others in need."

This continues the relationship between Korn and Awakening Youth. The organization figured prominently in the documentary Loud Krazy Love about guitarist and co-founder Brian "Head" Welch. Awakening Youth fulfills a mission to uplift at-risk young men and women in the wake of losing a parent. The team offers one-on-one individualized support to personally encourage and motivate and, ultimately, restore families.

Epica Posts Eighth Studio Vlog Online

Dutch symphonic metal giants Epica have recorded their eighth album at Sandlane Recording Facilities in the Netherlands. In April 2020 the recording hit a big challenge as Simone Simons was not allowed to travel to the Netherlands because of COVID-19. Luckily, she was able to remote-record the vocals from Bader Studios in Europe. In this episode, you get a behind-the-scenes look at how she pulled off the vocal recordings.

Simone Simons comments: "We were facing a lot of challenges when the Corona Crisis hit Europe. I had to search for an alternative recording studio nearby to record my vocals for our new album. In this episode, I give you a little look 'behind the studio' where I recorded and on top of that you get to hear some more melodies from our upcoming album. Hope you like it!" More...

Winter Nights Streaming New Album

Set to unleash their self-titled album on July 31st, NYC death metal Winter Nights is streaming the release in full via its premiere on MetalInsider here.

The self-titled album follows the band's 2014 widely praised full length "An Endless Apocalypse". Recorded between 2015 and 2018 at Atomic Sound in Brooklyn, New York, this new album is clearly progress for Winter Nights. Showing its maturity, it’s easy to hear the difference between the self-titled album and its predecessor.

Combining dark, foreboding lyrics and melodic interludes breaking up pounding riffs, the primary themes on the album relate to the feeling of being stuck on the idea of death. The lyrics are a sort of metaphor of losing someone and / or taking your own life for one purpose or another. Winter Nights explains the album in their own words, painting a grim picture:

"If you took a deep breath right before free-falling off a cliff in the pouring rain with a glimmer of sunshine trying to come through dark clouds only to fall into a dark hole and wake up crawling all fours on cold soil with snow falling in a dark moonlight forest."

Cruachan Splits With Two Members

Irish folk metal pioneers Cruachan has announced that they have parted company with multi instrumentalist John Ryan and guitarist Kieran Ball, who have been with the band since 2004 and 2012 respectively. A message from frontman Keith Fay reads as follows:

"Keith here, it's a sad day in the Cruachan camp. Both John and Kieran have decided to call it a day with Cruachan. There are numerous reasons they’ve made this choice and I completely respect them all, they are still good friends and I owe them so much for all their time in Cruachan.

"Kieran came on-board when we first made the decision to switch to two guitars and his contributions, since joining, have changed the band in a huge positive way and helped fashion us into a more professional unit than we had ever been before. John has been my right hand man for nearly 17 years, I find it hard to imagine the band without him. Over time he went from a nervous lad on a fiddle to a fully-fledged pro-musician with a powerful presence and style, the depth he brought to Cruachan recordings is hard to describe and will be equally hard to replace.

"Having said that, the show must go on. We will be recruiting new members immediately but our first priority will be finding a new folk music instrumentalist. If you play violin, whistle, bag-pipes etc and would like to join one of the pioneers of the folk metal genre, touring the world, and playing festivals like Hellfest, Brutal Assault, 70000 Tons of Metal and so much more then send a mail to keith@cruachanireland.com, we’re waiting to hear from you.

"John and Kieran, I wish you nothing but the best in whatever you do in the future, be it together or independently, I hope your show also goes on."

Metal Underground spoke with Keith Fay at this year's edition of the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise. You can watch the interview below. More...
