Meldrum, the multinational hard rock/metal band, is set to release third album 'Lifer' this fall via Reversed Records. 'Lifer' was produced by producer/engineer Rob Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, GWAR, Zimmers Hole, West of Hell) and Gene Hoglan (Testament, Death, Dark Angel, Dethklok).
The first single from the album, 'A Toast To Romance' will be available on itunes Tuesday July 31st. A teaser for the album can be heard below. Reversed Records also commented:
"Michelle Meldrum passed away at the age of 39 in May 2008. 'Lifer' stands as a proud tribute to Michelle and her lifetime commitment to creating and performing music. Michelle wrote the material for the album with drummer Gene Hoglan (Testament, Death, Dark Angel, Dethklok), along with new members bassist/guitarist Laura Christine (Warface) and vocalist Michelle Madden (Tourette's). Partial proceeds from the album will go to Michelle's son Jake Thomas who she left behind when she passed.
"Meldrum has toured worldwide with Lemmy Kilmister's Motorhead, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, Sepultura, Danzig, Nashville Pussy, as well as sharing the stage with many more. Touting a combination of mammoth vocal styles along with aggressively melodic vocals, mind bending guitar riffs and a rhythm section that creates fiercely bombastic grooves, this is what gives Meldrum their unique, cutting edge sound." Good To Die Records has released a compilation album online for streaming and "pay-what-you-want" download. You can check out the release, which features punk, rock, and metal acts, in the player below or over at bandcamp. The label also commented:
"Good To Die is ready to get you caught up with its first digital-only compilation. Featuring tracks from all of the label's releases to date, this handy little primer is rife with furious riffage, impassioned singing, and energy to spare. This free collection wraps together tracks from prog-metal dynamos Dog Shredder, the angular, furious punk outfit Deadkill, and the titans of sci-fi power rock Sandrider.
"This compilation also boasts a pair of exclusives. You can grab your first taste of Portland's queerest rockers Gaytheist, via 'Condemn The Condemners,' a cheeky politically minded blast from the trio's upcoming full-length Stealth Beats (out on August 21st).
"And you get your first glimpse into Good To Die's most recent signing: the sludge punkers from Portland known simply as Rabbits. A sample of the band's future Good To Die release, 'Meth Valley 99' both pays homage to the influence of Sonic Youth and gives the trio a chance to show off their love of steaming noise and throat-shredding screaming. All the goodness of Good To Die in one neat, tidy, and cost-free package? What the hell are you waiting for? Those eardrums of yours aren't going to puncture themselves." More...

Serbian death metal act Exorcised has signed on with Razorback Recordings for the release of a new album. Razorback commented:
"Razorback Recordings has unearthed yet another horror-crazed band from the bottomless pit of hell, EXORCISED!
"We were very pleasantly surprised with their 4 song demo, 'Reflections of Horror,' which rages on in a classic 80's style of pure thrashing Death Metal! Remember the first time you watched the original Evil Dead and the Gates of Hell, while listening to Death's 'Scream Bloody Gore,' Possessed's 'Seven Churches,' and classic demos from Exmortis, Morbid Angel, Pestilence, etc. This band of demons comes up with some deadly riffs with an extremely raw sound, totally ignoring the overproduced sounds of today!
Spawned from Vancouver’s underground back in 2008, Lovecraftian death metal trio Auroch, which is currently on the "Canadian Abomination Tour," is on a mission to give Canadian extreme metal traditions the respect they deserve, bringing them to the countless maniacs always anticipating the next epic death metal assault.
Following a number of smaller releases, Auroch will finally be unleashing its first full-length album "From Forgotten Worlds" on Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 and is available for pre-order via bandcamp.
“We can barely wait to unleash these 8 hymns dedicated to condemnation and time collapse. This is death metal violence at its most relentless,” says vocalist / guitarist Seb Montesi.
Intergalactic Mutant Overlords GWAR are plotting their return to the road this fall. Taking a break from working on their new album as well as an extended arctic slumber, GWAR is back with an entirely new show. Your lords and masters will be wreaking havoc across North America, with support coming from DevilDriver, Cancer Bats, and Legacy of Disorder. The tour is currently scheduled to kick off October 12th in Philadelphia, PA and run through November 26th in Millvale, PA. More dates are expected to be added in the coming weeks. Tickets go on sale this Friday July 27th and Saturday July 28th.
When asked for comment on the upcoming tour, GWAR front-thing Oderus Urungus muttered something incoherent, then when prodded a bit more muttered something else incoherent. After the third attempt for comment something more intelligible came from the mouth of the warty one:
"Once again GWAR returns, hoof and nail, to our old stomping grounds, North America, on a tour of utter destruction, and this time nothing less than the greatest power in the universe will do as our primary victim! That's right, this time GWAR, fresh from our battle with Death, takes on another of history's biggest assholes...God himself! Seeing as we don't have the new album done yet, we really had to do something spectacular..."
Oderus belched out a midget and continued, "This tour will also see the arrival of a new Scumdog brother to aid GWAR in our quest to destroy everything that sucks. That's right, I can finally reveal certain details regarding our new album...ever since our missing band mate Flattus Maximus took his leave of Earth, members of the Maximus tribe have been showing up at our Antarctic fortress, not only to pay their respects but also eat all of our food. And also lay tracks on the new album! You see, every member of the Maximus family rips on guitar (though Flattus taught them all they know), and they were anxious to help us fill the void left by Flattus. We have been working with his brothers Pustulus, Infecticus, Bubonus and even the shunned Corpulus...and right now they are fighting it out as to which one of them will stay here with the mighty GWAR for the 'FATE OR CHAOS' Tour...and beyond! Get ready world, this fall shall see the birth of a new Scumdog!" More...

Thunderous sludge metal duo Black Cobra has returned to the band's hometown in San Francisco to recuperate from a seemingly endless bout of heavy-duty touring across multiple continents in support of fourth LP "Invernal." The band surpassed playing its 600th show since the release of debut LP "Bestial" in 2006 on the recent set of tour dates.
While the bands plan on staying off the road for the coming months, Black Cobra shall remain far from dormant during that time. Black Cobra issued a statement this week with some info on what is to come:
"It's been a really killer few months, but it's also good to be home. We have some stuff coming up on the horizon during the rest of the year though. The Japanese release of Invernal should be on its way soon, and a video for 'The Crimson Blade' is in the works. We're definitely going to keep moving."
This month Black Cobra was also featured on Fox News Latino. Check out the coverage at this location and also watch a full 'Cobra set from Saint Vitus bar in Brooklyn via Metal Injection or in the player below. More...

Premiering first on MetalUnderground.com, U.S. metal outfit Common Dead is now streaming "Inveigh," the band's third music video supporting the album "Diatribe" (reviewed here), and sixth music video in total.
Not unlike previous videos from Common Dead, "Inveigh" was directed and edited by the sole instrumentalist behind the album, Andrew Laurenson, with aiding camerawork and equipment provided by Valérie Delorme and JP McGurrin.
The band founder comments: "'Inveigh' is a track about the anonymous drive or passion that keeps you alive, which can be different for each person. Choosing to live, even when there's no clear reason to do so. For some, the ability to create something that will exist in this realm, even after they are gone, may be all they need to strive on."
Originally the solo endeavor of Laurenson (who performed all instruments across the band's first three releases), Common Dead has committed to a roster expansion since the last album, with the aim of including an ensemble for upcoming efforts. Reviewers often label Common Dead as having a thrash/death backdrop with sporadic forays into tech and post-metal territory, adopting a broad range of themes including vengeance, civil disobedience, and metaphysics.
After posting commentary on the song "Froggin' Bullfish," Periphery has now moved on to the track "Mile Zero" in the band's track-by-track commentary of new album "Periphery II." Misha Mansoor comments:
"This song started out as a very short soundclick demo. I had actually written all the parts that are in the demo in a Guitar Center whilst trying out the new Mesa Mark V which had just arrived, and sometimes you just get inspired by good sounding gear. The part I demoed ended up being the middle section of the song, and I remember being very intrigued by Mark's phrasing and style and was definitely letting that influence me (even though he wasn't in the band yet). This sat as a very short demo for a while because I just didn't have any other ideas for the song, and didn't want to force it. But when Mark joined up, I knew he and I would have to complete this since he was an influence on the writing. The first riff of the song was something that he had been jamming on for a while, and it is the perfect example of how a simple riff can be just as moving and powerful as a complex one if written just right. We started recording his ideas, and as I was writing riffs to add to his, I realized that my original Mile Zero ideas fit perfectly and fluidly moved the arrangement along. Before we knew it we had a complete song, and at that point Spencer started to demo some vocal ideas for the complete arrangement.
"When we heard his demos we knew that this song had to be on the album. It has a very different vibe from the other songs, and the arrangement is a lot more progressive than the beginning of the song might leave the listener to believe making it a pleasant surprise in my opinion. The finishing touch was Wes Hauch's solo. Wes is one of our best friends, and we have always told people that he is the best guitarist that people don't know about yet, we wanted show people why we believe that, and his solo is definitely one of my favorite moments of the album. Again we gave him no direction and just told him to do his thing, and he just went to town on that section. An interesting to note about the section that he solos over is that it is technically the beginning riff of the song, but with the downbeat in a different place. More...

The Company Band will release its “Pros & Cons” EP on July 31st through Weathermaker Music. Legendary rockers Clutch own the label and their front man, Neil Fallon also sings for The Company Band. Most fans can only hear the group in their cars and home systems because the group primarily works from the studio. However, they scheduled rare appearances in the Northeast to promote “Pros & Cons.” In a way, a The Company Band recording is a corporate retreat from their full-time gigs in Clutch, Fu Manchu, CKY and Fireball Ministry. This time the group’s five members met in Venice, Italy.
Now the group has put down their paddles, wiped away the marinara sauce from their chin and is ready to get down to business. The said album is for all those who have kept their radio knob on Classic Rock stations for the past twenty-five years. Guitarist Dave Bone spoke to Metal Underground.com about this “basic, meat-and-potatoes hard rock and heavy metal” album and served up a heaping portion of history about the band and himself. More...

Killswitch Engage, which is currently embarked on the Trespass America tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Trivium, and more, is now performing a new song titled "No End in Sight" during the band's set. Roadrunner Records got in contact with newly returned frontman Jesse Leach to discuss the tour and the upcoming Killswitch Engage album. Excerpts from the interview follow:
Roadrunner: So what can you say about the next record at this point?
I’ve got a couple of songs done, I’ve got a bunch to go, but I’ve got a lot of ideas. I listen to it every once in a while out here just to keep me familiar with it, so when I get home and attempt to finish the record, it’s still fairly fresh in my mind. Sonically, this is definitely – it’s got a more urgent feeling to it. It’s a lot faster, there’s definitely huge melody going on, but the songs are a lot shorter. Not one song really goes over the three and a half, four minute mark. I just anticipate lyrically and vocally it to be a very urgent record. We’re at a state in this world right now where someone needs to talk about what’s going on. There’s a lot of apathy in this world, there’s a lot of really screwed-up stuff in our government and the world’s governments, and the whole class vs. class thing, the protests that happened all around the United States – there’s a lot of unrest, and I think it kinda needs to be touched upon. And it’s up to the metal community to have a voice, and that’s what I’m aiming to do with this next record – make it very important. Make it matter.
Roadrunner: Given that you’ve been out of the band for 10 years – obviously they’ve welcomed you back, but is everybody on the same page regarding what the songs will be about? Are you running the lyrics past them as you go? More...

The track list for "Lights Out" is as follows:

Lordi’s longtime keyboardist Awa has decided to leave the band. Awa's final performance with be at Simerock in Rovaniemi, Finland on August 11, 2012 when Lordi celebrates the band’s 10th Anniversary. Awa joined the band in 2005 and first appeared on the 2006 release "The Arockalypse."
The new keyboards, yet unnamed, has already been chosen and will play on the band’s next studio album, planned for early 2013. The characters and character names of the new keyboardist and new drummer will be revealed together with new masks and outfits before the release of the band’s next studio album.
Awa commented on her departure:
"Playing in the band has been an incredible experience and clearly one of the best times in my life. I have always been very fond of Lordi, its music and image, and will surely be following news about it closely. The band and the crew were and will always be a second family to me and I will be missing them and our fans greatly. However, seven years in the band has been physically and emotionally very demanding. You have to be in a band like this 100 %. If you are not able to do that anymore, you have to let go and give space for something new.
"I want to emphasize that I am not going to leave music or making music, because music is the most important thing to me in life. I am on a creative break now, but have several new ideas already. You will hear about them if and when the time is good. I also believe that I can still be seen behind the keyboards some day."
Mr. Lordi commented:
"We have been discussing this behind the scenes for quite some time, but nobody knew that this year would be this kind of a year of changes for Lordi. Of course you always believe and wish your current line-up would be permanent and final, but these are not issues of faith. Situations change, things happen and plans are renewed. All the rest of us in the band wanted her to go on with us, but we also understand her decision and respect that. We know that this decision was not easy for her either. It took a long time to come to this conclusion.
"We agreed already earlier, that she will not participate our next album studio sessions. In this case she would have had to hang out with us for the next couple of years. Naturally it would have not been fair to her, to the band or to our fans."

Manilla Road is an amazing band. Few 80s metal acts successfully ran the gauntlet of time to still be with us producing great material, and even less manage to keep anywhere near the level of consistency Manilla Road has in terms of producing bona-fide classics. But I'm not here to regale you about psychedelic solos, masterful riffs, or Mark "The Shark" Shelton's soaring vocals. No, I'm just briefly going to make fun of the album covers, covers which span from epically terrible to over-the-top awesome. More...
