Candlelight Records today confirms October 9th as the North American release date for Daylight Die’ new album, "A Frail Becoming." Mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Katatonia, Devin Townsend), the album features photography from award-winning Jonathan Mehring and packaging design by Agni Kaster. The release of "A Frail Becoming" silences a nearly four-year writing gap from the quintet.
“A Frail Becoming is an album which, at many times during its creation, felt as if it may never be realized,” states drummer Jesse Haff. “As each of our lives proceeded down different paths, the challenges and obstacles we faced felt daunting and at times impassible. Out of this struggle we forged ahead, determined to write the best collection of music we've ever created. Thankfully our perseverance prevailed and A Frail Becoming stands as the most accomplished and varied album of our career.”
Recording of "A Frail Becoming" commenced in late 2011. Bassist/vocalist Egan O’Rourke coordinated capturing individual performances of Haff, guitarists Barre Gambling and Charley Shackelford, and vocalist Nathan Ellis. By year’s end, the raw tracks were ready for Bogren’s critical touches. Haff notes, “While still sounding distinctly Daylight Dies, each songs stands independently on its own, uncompromisingly representing a reflection of the moment in time they were each born in. Expect beautiful and haunting guitar-driven dark metal, enveloped by a wall of rhythms and textures one minute, and deeply expressive guitar leads, solos and acoustic passages the next.”
The album's track listing is:
2. The Pale Approach
4. Dreaming of Breathing
5. A Final Vestige
7. Hold On To Nothing
8. Water’s Edge
9. An Heir to Emptiness
Daylight Dies is also currently working on a video for the song "Dreaming of Breathing." The clip is being filmed by Ramon Boutviseth, who also directed "Lies That Bind,” a video filmed shortly after the release of 2006’s "Dismantling Devotion."

Metal Blade Records has issued the following statement about inking a deal with death metal act Antropomorphia:
"Metal Blade is proud to announce the signing of Holland's best kept secret over the past 24 years! AntropomorphiA is legion to Death Metal lunatics of the underground and will infect soon enough all worshippers of classical Death Metal and bands such as BOLT THROWER, GRAVE and AUTOPSY as well as newer high class acts as BLOODBATH or HAIL OF BULLETS.
"AntropomorphiA was created under the influence from bands such as Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Infernäl Mäjesty and Bathory in a tiny town in Holland in 1989.
"Over the years they got more and more brutal, released several demos and the Necromantic Love Songs MCD in 1993, but went on a hiatus in the late 90s since other bands became more important.
"Fast forward 2009 when other projects moved into the background, AntropomorphiA got re-activated. The line-up is still the same, original members, F (vox/guitar), M (drums), S (bass) form the trinity that is AntropomorphiA till this day.
"In early 2011 AntropomorphiA made their first live appearance since 2001 at the Neurotic Deathfest where they put up a convincing brutal show. At the end of 2011 most of the new record was recorded and the band is taking their time to make sure this album is something more, something huge, resulting in Evangelivm Nekromantia - an album consisting of nine tracks, divided into three chapters of each three songs. Lyrically driven by nekrophilae, murder, necromancy and necrolesbian lust. Mastered at Necromorbus Studios by Tore Stjerna." More...

Finnish metal band Norther has decided to call it quits after sixteen years, leaving behind a legacy of six full length albums, the last of which was the 2011 Century Media Records release "Circle Regenerated." The band announcement reads as follows:
"We hereby announce after a long and careful consideration that we have decided to quit Norther.
"During the last year it has become clear that we are not able to tour or do shows as much as we would want to, this being due to members´complicated and time consuming life situations. We have been forced to find session members and turn down too many gig offers. We simply cannot act as an active and working band and it is clear that these issues are not solved in the future. This is everything but an easy decision for all of us, but all this have taken the band to the point that pulling the plug is the right thing to do. There is no drama, this is a mutual decision and we all remain as good friends. The last show of Norther will be on the 10th of August at Brutal Assault Festival 2012 (CZ).
"However, most of us will continue in other bands: Jukka in Wintersun and Amberian Dawn, Aleksi in Medicated and ASXX, Daniel in Naildown, Heikki in Naildown, Tuoni and Amberian Dawn, and Kristian in his solo project.
"Norther would like to thank especially our FANS, friends and partners for their support for the past 12 years. Also great hails goes to Tomi Luoma, our ex-members Toni Hallio and Petri Lindroos, and producer Anssi Kippo for their contribution. It has been one hell of a ride and together we shared truly unforgettable moments!!

Masters of mesopotamian black / thrash metal, Melechesh, have finally made their debut album "As Jerusalem Burns," available for digital download. The long out of print landmark album can be purchased over at iTunes here. Commented guitarist/singer and mainman Ashmedi:
"Finally available for legal downloading. Our Debut album from 1996, 'As Jerusalem Burns...Al Intisar' means a lot to me, it was recorded with next to nothing budget in the city of Jerusalem and all the odds were against us, at the time no one paid attention to black metal being made in the holy city, with time we changed that.
"We recorded it live to tape so this means we all played at the same time without any breaks in the songs so no room for corrections or to remake one particular part. If we felt there was one little mistake we would re-record the whole song all over again, I think this gave it a sense of authentism. So for now it is available as a digital format and that’s it. Hopefully we will also make it availed on vinyl for the first time.
"Furthermore one day we perhaps might license it on CD for re-release. The music is raw as we intended it to be with hints of middle eastern music. This is Melechesh more than 15 years ago though half of our sophomore album 'Djinn' was written then.“

Nuclear Blast is extremely proud to announce the worldwide signing of San Francisco's Orchid. Commented the band:
"After many months of talking to different labels about our future, we’re very excited to announce that we've decided to join forces with Nuclear Blast. We’ve been working on new material on and off for the last year and we’re feeling really good about the new songs. It seems like they're a continuation in the same tradition of the material on our first full length, 'Capricorn,' but also, show some new sides of our music that should surprise everyone and show that Orchid isn't a band that just wants to keep making the same album over and over. We're really excited for everyone to hear it!“
Commented Nuclear Blast head of A&R, Andy Siry: "Ever since we first heard of Orchid and witnessed their perfect way of bringing back the glorious days of rock music, we knew we had to work with this amazing band. After meeting them on their most recent European tour we literally were blown away by their stunningly intense performance! So here we are, proud as f*ck, welcoming one of the most hopefully and authentic bands to the Nuclear Blast family. Every single one at the label loves ORCHID and so will you! CHECK THEM OUT!"

Deeds of Flesh founding member Erik Lindmark has issued the following announcement about taking over all vocal duties and parting ways with Corey Athos:
"As many know a couple years back we did a drastic member change where I decided to go from doing both vocals and guitar to just guitar and backing vocals and adding Corey Athos, Flesh Consumed to the line up. Corey was going to take over basically all of the vocal duties allowing me to concentrate more on just playing guitar & doing some back ups here and there.
"We thought this would be a good move allowing the vocals to be more aggressive and in your face like on our last release 'Of What's to Come,' we made the decision while writing this album which is why you hear the progression in both vocals and guitar work from our previous releases.
"This would also allow myself to get a bit more technical and crazy on the guitar work as you hear with the added leads and over writing on OWTC. Unfortunately the years of playing has taken its toll on my left or fret arm and I have been diagnosed with a severe level of tendonitis. Recording is not an issue because songs are broken up into small sections and I am still recording on the new release 'Portals to Canaan' but live is an issue.
"If I play for more then about 2 minutes straight I get an overwhelming amount of pain in my fret arm and can no longer put any pressure on the neck and have to stop. This in turn live would leave nothing for me to do if Corey is doing vocals and I need to be replaced on guitar. So what we have decided is I will be doing all vocals live but not playing guitar. Might be a bit weird but it's either that or quit which I do not want to do.
"On future releases I will still contribute to the writing process and recording so I won't be completely out of the loop as far as guitar work goes. Inevitably this means Corey will not be part of the current line. He put in a tremendous amount of effort on the lyrics for Portals to Canaan and will get writing credits in the release. We wish him the best with Flesh Consumed and all other future projects.
"This was a very difficult decision for me but I feel it is the only decision to move forward with Deeds of Flesh. I am trying to remedy the situation but we are planning on touring for the new release next year and didn't want this to be a surprise so thought this should be brought on now rather then later. Hit us up and let us know what you think."

Every week, we catch up with band members and metal fans to get their best stories from live shows. Many bands and fans alike share a fascination for the myriad ways that crowd members can express their love of the music through brutality in the pit. Other bands would rather see the look of a deep emotional connection with the music on the faces of the crowd rather than blood running down their faces. MetalUnderground.com writer Frank Serafine interviewed three Impending Doom bandmates at a Nashville tour stop, who share three stories as well as what they really like to see at a show. More...

Children of Bodom's Jaska Raatikainen has checked in with the following tour recap, with features additional information about front man Alexi Laiho's hospital stay in Norway:
"I am writing this last blog of the summer tour little late but wanted to tell about what happened in the last days on it. It feels different now when everything happened a few weeks ago. Luckily we were so close to end and had a chance to play most of the shows. Unfortunately the shows in Oslo and Malmö were canceled, as well as one of the two festivals we were supposed to play in Finland. Canceling a show is always such an unpleasant thing to do and it is frustrating when it happens. COB is not a band that easily cancels a show.
"The half way of the tour is usually the worst and toughest one. You know how long you have already been on tour and you know what there is yet to come. This tour was quite easy and short for us and like I told before I enjoy touring in Europe especially in the summer, although I got a little sick at some point, which was not that nice. When the tour is coming to its end I start hoping that there would be little more nice countries and cities you could visit. You hope it wouldn´t have ended so soon.
"We played this one festival, Basinfirefest in Czech Rebublik. It was weird mix of folk and metal festivals. Very hot and nice athmosphere though. Good crowd. Finnish band called Apocalyptica also played there after us and it was nice to see friends playing.
"The next day I woke up to bright sunshine. It didn´t only look hot outside, it really was very hot. We were in Dischingen at the festival called Rock Am Härtsfeldsee. Nice little village festival again. That day we did a signing session which was something special to our normal daily routines. Only funny thing was that almost every fan spoke German to us. When we spoke English to them they were quiet or kept talking German. I learned the basics of German in school and we have had German crew guys so we all understand something.
"During the night heavy thunder storm covered the whole festival area. We heard that some people were injured by some flying items. Fortunately nothing serious happened. Also a good thing was that the show was in a tent and they collected all the people inside and closed it totally. We started at midnight. We were tired but happy that everybody was there and enjoying. That night there was supposed to be a shower at some gym hall but the local promoter turned that to a shelter for campers. Kindly thought, of course, but also it meant that me and Henkka had to take showers with the garden hose behind a bus. Cold, but did the job nicely. And yes, we were naked hoping the guys from Rage wouldn´t come out from their bus, because it was behind their bus where we were hiding. More...

As announced last month, Rage Nucleaire's debut album is entitled "Unrelenting Fucking Hatred." This raw manifesto of black metal has been scheduled for an October 19th release (November 6th in North America).
The cover artwork and tracklisting will be unveiled later in the summer. A 2-LP edition will be available in North America, strictly limited to 300 copies, and available through Season of Mist's e-shop.
"If anyone had ever told me that someday I'd be signed to Season of Mist, I'd have laughed at them," guitarist Dark Rage comments. "The point is, being accepted into the SoM family, along with such ungodly notables as Arckanum, Mayhem, and Deathspell Omega, is like being given a Sith name - it feels great to be part of SoM's evil empire."
October File has announced plans to retreat to write a concept album and release a live record. The band commented:
"After a busy summer of shows with Fear Factory and Prong, and some smashing festivals – Hellfest being the highlight – we are now going to bury ourselves in our fourth studio album.
"The album is entitled 'The Application of Loneliness, Ignorance, Misery, Love and Despair - An Introspective of the Human Condition.' It will be a concept album based on the contents of the aforementioned title. Taking a look at the human state, what we see and what we feel in certain situations, and how we look at things totally uniquely. We hope that the album will see the light of day in March 2013 on the Candlelight label. More information as we see fit to release it.
"In the meantime we will release a live album/DVD with the performance taken from last year’s Bloodstock Festival. It will come as a limited edition of 1000 only CD/DVD sets and will be entitled 'Renditions in Juxtaposition – Live At Bloodstock.' Vinyl rights are being negotiated with a label, more on that when we have the information. The CD/DVD will be released via the Candlelight label on 22nd October 2012.
"Some one-off shows, etc. will happen, details when we have them… stay safe, it’s a dangerous world."
In the daily track-by-track breakdown of new album "Periphery II," the band has now reached the 12th track titled "Froggin' Bullfish." Periphery's Misha Mansoor comments on the track:
"I originally wrote this song in 2009 on a whim one day. I believe Tom Murphy was supposed to come over to work on some songs, but ended up canceling on me leaving me with nothing to do, so I decided to record on my own. It was a while ago, so I don't really remember exactly what I was going for, but i really dug the idea of a song having a nice triplet/shuffle feel to it, and I also remember thinking the song was sounding pretty Nobuo-ish at times, so I definitely ran with that. I'll admit that the middle part of the song is heavily influenced by the FF7 slums theme (Where Cloud goes dress shopping) because it felt oh so right haha. It kinda sat there for a while, as this was before Spencer was in the band, and none of our previous singers felt inspired by it, but when Spencer first took a stab at it he ended up demoing ideas that really breathed new life into the song, and those ideas made it to the final version. This is another song that he just manages to hit all the notes I wanted to hear, and it made it feel like a fresh song even though the original arrangement was untouched. It is definitely one of the quirkier songs on the album overall, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a song has to grow on the listener for them to really get into it, but this is one of my favorite songs that Periphery has put out just because it really doesn't sound like anything else we have done to me, and I don't even know how I would ever approach writing a song in this style again."
