She is a Berklee School of Music-trained, metal session-playing, former aspiring Lovecraftian scholar and giant nerd, so please fling all your most unflattering granny panties at her. Also, here's a video of her playing an Allegaeon song." More...
Australian / Los Angeles act Devolved will unleash the band's 4th full length studio album world-wide on November 20th 2012 through Unique Leader Records. Titled "Reprisal," the album includes 10 crushing new tracks and is once again led by founding member, drummer, and lyricist John Sankey. "Reprisal" is the first release with guitarist Mark Hawkins and vocalist Mark Haggblad.
Sankey stated about the album: "I deliberately wanted to combine an organic death metal approach with more progressive and modern elements, while still incorporating a cold and futuristic soundscape which has always been a signature of our sound and concept. I had a very specific vision for this Album and it is finally the definitive representation of what I have always wanted Devolved to be. After our last studio release, 'Oblivion', I decided to work on my own and wrote all the new song structures and arrangements in their entirety by tracking just drums and vocals myself. Once they were complete I recruited new guitarist Mark Hawkins who then wrote and recorded all the guitar and bass parts, his involvement really allowed us to push the boundaries of each track and took the music to a totally new level of speed and technicality.
"To say the guitar work on this album is far beyond anything we have done before would be a huge understatement! New singer Mark Haggblad also brings a rejuvenated ferocity to the band, his relentless vocal delivery is extremely aggressive throughout each track while still maintaining a unique tone that fits the dynamics and diversity of the songs perfectly. It has been a renewed creative experience working with such focused and talented new members, and it has definitely allowed us to surpass anything the band has been capable of in the past. 'Reprisal' is without doubt the album I have always strived to create since the formation of Devolved!"
The album also includes a cover of the Exhorder classic "Cadence Of The Dirge" as a bonus track. Both Kyle Thomas (Exhorder vocalist) and Monte Conner (Roadrunner Senior VP) praised the band on this version of the song saying it is an “amazing cover, Devolved have more than done it justice!” Also featured is a guest vocal appearance by Tony Campos (Soulfly, Prong, Ministry, Asesino, ex-Static X) plus guest solos Francesco Artusato (All Shall Perish), Nate Vennarucc (Ontogeny, Anomalous), Malcolm Pugh (Diskreet, A Loathing Requiem), and Vishal Singh
(Robots Pulling Levers). More...
Vocalist Keith Wampler of The Convalescence has issued the following announcement about the band's guitarist missing upcoming shows:

Riverside, California's No Bragging Rights has signed a worldwide record deal with eOne Music. "The guys and I are beyond stoked to be a part of the GoodFight/eOne family. We feel this will be a good fit for us as we grow and continue moving forward," says frontman Mike Perez.
The following press release was also issued about the band:
"No Bragging Rights began to take its present shape in the summer of 2005. Leading up to that point, the band members had been veterans of the southern California pop punk scene before they began work on their first self released full length album, 'Because You Believe in Something Beyond Them.'
"NBR was at a crossroads. Member changes and new ideas took them in a heavier, more hardcore oriented direction. The early 2006 release was well received in the local scene and helped establish the band outside of their home town.
"NBR went on to release three more records over the next five years. Most notably 'Illuminator,' recorded at Lambesis Studios featuring the hit single 'Blind Faith.'
"Beyond excited with the last album, the band returned to Lambesis Studios to record their new record which according to the band, is their most forward thinking material to date. Mixed by Kelly 'The Carnage' Cairns at One Light Media in Las Vegas, fans can expect the new record to be released later this year."
No Bragging RIghts is:

Salt Lake City-based blackened metallers Yaotl Mictlan have confirmed a swift but brutal tour of Mexico this August, taking warrior anthems to the lands from which their ancestors and lyrical concepts hail. From August 16th through the 19th, with two shows in the country's capital of Mexico City scheduled, the quartet will storm through the country with a blazing formula of thrash/death-influenced black metal based on Mayan folklore and history.

The debut "Guerreros de la Tierra de los Muertos" was released by American Line Productions in 2006, and following that the band signed with international kingpin Candlelight Records, who unleashed the more dynamic sophomore LP "Dentro del Mantro Gris de Chaac" in 2010.

"The album is a natural progression from the 2009 Emotionless EP and continues to push forward the musical direction of the band, delving deeper into dark, cold atmospheres and warm acoustic arrangments.

U.K. act Muleta Smiles has issued the following announcement about deciding to call it quits after the departure of guitarist Matt Blockley:
"Well where to start... We've had a great run in Muleta, have been told countless times that we have done good things for our home town which makes us so proud, released an EP of which was recieved with incredible reviews.
"But it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that Matt has decided to leave the band and with absolutely no hard feelings we have decided we are going to fold the band. Its been such a fun ride and we are all still good friends. We got to support tons of bands we genuinely love and respect but most of all we wanna thank our awesome loyal following who made our shows a popular slot to try and get on countrywide. Thanks to every single person who came out to support an unconventional local act and made our shows memories we will never forget.
"Lastly, keep supporting the real local bands. The ones that prioritize songwriting over merch and pretend tours, keep the very reason why we started bands in the first place alive and show up for the bands who represent the music. Thank you all again so much."
American heavy metal band Fozzy, led by WWE Superstar Chris Jericho and Stuck Mojo founder Rich Ward, has announced that the group will be embarking on a tour of the United Kingdom this November, where Fozzy will share the headlining slot with Chicago hard rock outfit SOiL, as well as British alternative metal group Breed 77.
"The U.K. has always been Fozzy's second home, and after the amazing experience we had rocking Download 2012, we couldn’t wait to return to the U.K.," adds frontman Chris Jericho. "That’s why this tour with Soil is so huge for us. To be able to come back to England, Scotland and Wales with a band of their stature is going to blow away our fans, their fans, and make new fans for both of us! Mark my words... for excitement, energy and pure value, Fozzy vs SOiL is going to be THE tour of the fall!!" More...
Nokia Alive has presented the 10th episode of Headbanger's Kitchen, hosted by Demonstealer (Demonic Resurrection/Workshop/Reptilian Death). In this episode, available below, Demonstealer shows how to make Black Label Chicken Curry and also conducts and interview with Randy Blythe from Lamb of God.
In related news, Blythe has spent the last three weeks in a Czech prison due to charges of manslaughter from an incident at a 2010 live show. His bail was recently doubled from $200,000 to $400,000 and as of Sunday evening apparently still remains in custody.
Between the Buried and Me (BTBAM) recently announced that new album, "The Parallax II: Future Sequence," will be released via Metal Blade Records on October 9th, in North America, and October 5th/8th in Europe. The first single BTBAM is performing live and releasing is entitled Telos. The song can be heard in its entirety now in the player below. The album's track listing is:
1. Goodbye To Everything
2. Astral Body
3. Lay Your Ghosts to Rest
5. Extremophile Elite
7. The Black Box
10. Melting City
11. Silent Flight Parliament
12. Goodbye to Everything Reprise
Regarding the concept of The Parallax II: Future Sequence, the new full-length album picks up where the 2011 EP, The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues, left off. "The two main characters of the story take on a journey through space and time with the unenviable task of having to cure the flaws of humanity by any means necessary. While the EP served mostly as an introduction to the characters, Future Sequence contains the action of the story. The lyrics are written in the stream of consciousness style, which really helps to capture the perspective and emotion of the characters. We really enjoyed the challenge of writing this record, and I think we were all pleasantly surprised with how well the music and lyrics jived with one another. I couldn't be happier with how Future Sequence turned out," comments guitarist Paul Waggoner.
Vocalist and keyboardist Tommy Rogers adds his thoughts on the musical direction of The Parallax II: Future Sequence. "This album is Between the Buried and Me on steroids. I feel like we have created an album that perfectly mirrors the band we've been trying to create since day one. An album that has sounds that will stimulate many genres and music fans alike. A conceptual journey that takes the listener to worlds that seem familiar and worlds that make you scratch your head. From start to finish this is music we want to create, not music we think people want us to create. We create songs that keep us (and hopefully you) excited about heavy music. Keep listening… something new will be there each time. Enjoy the music… we enjoyed writing it." More...

Earlier, we posted a number of songs that Deadly Remains is streaming from its new one, "Severing Humanity." Blistering.com has now posted an exclusive stream of another song, "Scriptures of Foreign Tongues," off of that debut release. Check out the song at this location. Deadly Remains is from northern California. The band came into existence in the fall of 2006, producing and releasing an eight track demo called "Moral Crusade" in 2008. In the fall of 2009 Deadly Remains released "Before the Nothing" (once again recorded/mixed/mastered at NB Recording Studios), featuring artwork by Jon Zig.
Spanish brutal death metal band Velocidad Absurda recently put out its second full-length album "Inexorably Doomed to Cataclysm" on Hecatomb Records and is streaming a few songs from it over on YouTube. Below is an upload of "Condemned to Perpetual Agony," plus you can hear the title track and "Dehumanizing the Masses" over at YouTube as well. With this album, the Zaragoza trio has now become a quartet. Back in 2008 before the album "Reborn for the Extermination," the band had lost its drummer, so the rhythm guitarist assumed that post. Velocidad Absurda will also be releasing a split 7" with the band Himura later this year.
We were greeted with the first hints of summer upon arriving at Suvilahti for day one of Tuska Open air metal festival. Ahead was three full days of metal, with a lineup that would please even the trickiest of metal fans. With program guide in hand, with the most interesting acts already chosen; Day one began.
Starting the festival was Finnish thrash metallers Profane Omen. They were a perfect choice to start the weekend, and although the start time was quite early for many, Profane Omen infused the crown that arrived with enough energy to shake off even the most persistent drowsiness. Jules didn’t allow for lethargic audience members with his typical stage antics of headbanging and giving each and every song his all. They played a healthy mix of old songs and new and thus began Tuska 2012.
One thing that was quite difficult was managing take in all the festival had to offer. Having a nasty case of strep all weekend, I was lucky to be able to keep up the pit hopping and running from stage to stage to see as many acts as possible. Starting a mere 15 minutes after Profane Omen was Alcest. More...

Germany's Final Depravity has issued the following statement about recording a new album:
"It's been quite overdue, now the time to act has finally come: we're gonna enter Kreator HQ at Zeche Carl, Essen today to record the follow-up to Nightmare 13!
"Entitled Thrash Is Just The Beginning, the album will be produced by our sound engineer Sascha Risseler (a.o. The Very End, Night in Gales, Words of Farewell, Ninnghizhidda) and mixed & mastered by Dennis Koehne (a.o. Sodom, Exumer, The Very End). A release date has not yet been set.
"We can't tell you how excited we are to begin the production. Gear has already been set up yesterday and it all just feels fuckin' great. Jerome is in excellent shape and premises for nothing-but-fun recording sessions couldn't be any better!
"None of this wouldn't have turned out this way without the help and support of a bunch of damn fine people around us. Let's hear it for Jürgen 'Ventor' Reil, Matthias Kassner & House of Drums, Felix Schiffer, Jörg Sahm, Marina Speckamp, The Very End and our mighty crew Johannes Baron, Jürgen Vetter and Sascha Risseler.
"Very special greetings go out to Tristan Maiwurm - may the Force always be with you! Thrash Is Just The Beginning...
"See video footage of our debut show with Jerome on our YouTube channel."
After taking a break for the weekend, Periphery has picked up where the band previously left off with a track-by-track breakdown of latest album "Periphery II." Commenting on the song "Epoch," Jake Bowen had this to say:
"Epoch is a strange one indeed, people have probably noticed the electronic influenced sprinkled throughout Periphery's catalog, usually at the end of a track. So for us to include one of these types of songs as a track is new territory for us. We realize it's not for everyone but hopefully ear candy for those do enjoy it. The guys liked the uplifting note choices mixed with the driving drum beat behind it so it got included as it's own track on the album."
Misha Mansoor also added, "Just as everyone has been practicing their craft rather obsessively since the last album, Jake has been focusing on his electronic work as much as his guitar playing. He sent us this idea one day, and we all thought it was just too good to use an interlude, and we decided to have it be its own thing, perhaps as a sign that it will be an area to explore and experiment more with in the future. This is the only song on the album that I had no input with whatsoever, and I wouldn't change a thing about it. I love my Jakey!" More...

Windfaerer is not to follow trends or be part of a scene of some sort; it is about independence and being true. Solar feels like a healthy progression for Windfaerer’s music,” he continues. “I’ve included more input from my bandmates in the writing process and we’re excited to show the world our brand of metal with this EP. We are more energized than ever to keep creating.”
I truly would not doubt it if Argentina has almost as many bands as America does, as it's the second largest country in South America. It's history with the metal genre has some similarities with our own, but yet as one would expect it is vastly divergent from our own annals. To arrive at the huge scene they have today, Argentinians went through many hardships in the beginning and along the way.
Back in the late seventies/early eighties rock bands began to play more metallic sounds to add to the rock stylings of locals Pappo's Blues or V8, but during that era there was plenty of government censorship when it came to music. Heavy metal always bore the brunt of the bad press and some bands were even threatened by the authorities. Some bands like Riff added to their own demise by putting out a year-end party "Riff termina el ano sin cadenas," which broke out into such revery, debauchery and violence that it plagued that band for years and almost sounded the death knell for it. The mixing & mastering will be done again by Dan Swanö at Unisound studio - so expect nothing more but the best!
"Joonas Koto will be making his OG album debut on this album with his awesome flawless action-Jackson guitar skills, so the guitar duo Vanhala / Koto is on fire here like never before! The bass parts will be played by Eerik Purdon, the legendary man behind the bass lines of 'The Redshift.'
"We've done a huge amount of pre-production for the album in the shadows, during the gig break on the first half of this year and all we can say is….sounding astoundingly gooooood! The new album will surely continue from where 'New World Shadows' left but there'll be also some stylistic echoes from the 'The Redshift' past as also lots of new spices and flavours. The next chapter of Adult Oriented Death Metal that is...
