A legend in the European metal scene, Dan Swanö has been involved in dozens of albums and projects on both the producing side and the performing side.
In years gone by, Swanö's musical credits included underground gems like Edge of Sanity and Nightingale, along with being involved with acts such as Bloodbath, Diabolical Masquerade, and many more. Over the last decade his focus shifted much more to a behind-the-scenes role, creating a build up of creativity that now finally sees its outlet: Witherscape.
Dan came together with Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg to form Witherscape, which will release debut album "The Inheritance" on July 29th in Europe and August 6th in North America via Century Media Records.
In our new interview with Dan Swanö, he explains the concept behind the album's story line, what it was like to switch from producer to musician, and how getting back into drumming and growling was a physically taxing experience. Read on to see Dan's thoughts on these issues and much more. More...
Veteran bassist Dan Lilker (Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, Nokturnal Hellstorm, etc.) has signed on to compose original music for "Seed to Son," a sci-fi horror short in pre-production in Rochester, NY.
The filmmakers are currently raising funds for the short via kickstarter, where you can find more information about the film and see a teaser featuring music by Lilker. Check it out right here.
Lilker has previously worked with director Mark A. Zuniga on the quirky short Red Balloon 2, available at YouTube.
Drummer Gabe Seeber of Sacramento's death metal juggernaut The Kennedy Veil will be filling in for Decrepit Birth on the entire "Hell In July" tour run with Six Feet Under and Cannabis Corpse.
With The Kennedy Veil being midway through recording a new full-length and only bass and vocal tracking remaining, Gabe had the time and availability to hit the road while the rest of the band returns to the studio to wrap up the recording process for "Trinity of Falsehood."
Decrepit Birth stated the following via Facebook: "We are pleased to announce that drummer Gabe Seeber (The Kennedy Veil) will be filling in for us during our upcoming tour and and headline festival this July! Due to having such a short amount of time to learn our material, our set at the Homeless One festival will be a bit shorter than expected, but we still promise give you all our absolute best!!! A HUGE thank you to Gabe for busting his ass to keep us going with such short notice!!!"
Recording sessions for "Trinity of Falsehood" officially got underway in June, with Gabe traveling out to NB Recording in Santa Rosa, CA to lay down drum tracks with producer/engineer Nick Botelho. Multi-camera video footage was captured, and studio video updates will eventually make their way online once the band wraps up recording sessions later this month.
"Trinity of Falsehood" is tentatively set to see a release in Late 2013 via Unique Leader Records.

“This was one of the easiest songs on the album to both write and record,” vocalist Trevor Pool told Revolver. “The song was written on my basement floor for eight hours straight. We used Tabit (a computer program that lets us tab out our music and hear what it sounds like) for some preproduction so that I had a song reference to help me write vocals. I wrote the song from beginning to end.”

"In the Episode II, the peaceful life on Morfuidra is being disturbed by the invasion of the huge'n bulky mothership 'Dradnought,' which arrives from the nooks of the hyperspace. The ship sends out a squad of smaller fighters on the planet to cause terror among the Morfuidran people.
Something must be done to prevent this from happening. The council realizes that the elders' dreams are about to come true - the dark future of Morfuidra is now about to unfold..." More...
Vocalist Ilija Stevanovic from Sangre Eterna has checked in with the following update about working on a new album:
"As the frontman of Sangre Eterna I would like to thank you all. Your support and our passion for music are the things that are keeping this band alive. Lots of things happened since we released 'Asphyxia,' we had some great and bad moments, but as you can see we survived even the hard times. What we can promise is, that the band will continue with its hard work and that our upcoming material will be the band's best result so far.
"Now, few words about our future plans: I am leaving for Miami, FL but the band will stay active. I will return to motherland in January 2014 and then we will finish the recording of our third album, after that we will wrap it up and send it for the mastering. I will probably write some of the lyrics in the U.S. since I will have a lot of free time. I can promise you some a real good stuff. The story behind the album will be revealed once the cover art is done.
"Keep those horns up, cause we will blast the world this time! Going to Florida to finish this masterpiece. Wish you all the best. Over & out."

Chapel Hill, NC's experimental act Horseback has announced a singles and rarities collection entitled "A Plague of Knowing."
This limited edition 3-disc collection compiles a half decade’s worth of compilation, vinyl only, demos, live recordings, and previously unreleased Horseback material from 2007-2012. The album will see a CD and digital release via Relapse Records on August 20th in North America (August 19th UK/World and August 16th Benelux/Germany). The band comments:
"From the beginning, this project has been about personal revelation and the creative processes that lead to a deeper -- and broader -- understanding of the Self and the world. Horseback has been, and will continue to be, an exploration of the darkest of shadows and the simplest of joys.
"Though each of Horseback's full-lengths has been carefully sculpted into a semblance of unity, the process is never really pure. Where there is purity, there is lack: a poverty of the whole, a void of meaning. The mangled forms on display in this collection are stitches in a larger fabric, however unsightly they may seem. There is no hidden knowledge, only the viral horror of understanding. The flags read 'Revelation, if it kills us; give us a plague of knowing.'"

After issuing an update on Lemmy Kilmister's health that indicated Motorhead would still be performing live this Summer, the band has now checked in with this statement about canceling upcoming shows:
"Regretfully, Motörhead announces it has had to cancel its remaining six summer festival appearances. The band hate to let their fans down by missing any shows, but they expect to be back in full force this Fall.
"As you may have heard, earlier this Spring Lemmy had some medical maintenance for the long-term good, He was, at that time, advised to rest, but once feeling better, he of course resumed his life as usual. He has since been advised that he should immediately take some more time to rest.
"Lemmy says: 'I'd like to thank everyone who wish me well, it was a tough decision for me as I don't like to disappoint the fans especially in times where economy is bad and people spent their money to see us. But sometimes you can't do anything else than following doctor's orders, but be sure we will be back and kick everybody's ass.'
"There you have it! You can now stop worrying, redirect those cards, flowers and chocolates to a loved one (who will appreciate them far more), keep calm and carry on! Lemmy and Motörhead certainly are! Thanks and see you in the Fall for their new album in the form of a massive Aftershock..."

Having lost none of their integrity, Watain continues to push the boundaries of the scene with their fifth full-length, refusing to compromise their sound and vision. Amid the tracks teeming with the band's classic sound, The Wild Hunt also features clean vocals (a first for the trio!) which, as front-man Erik puts it, '...is just us being brutally personal and honest. During the next few weeks, while Lamb of God is gearing up for several dates overseas in August, vocalist Randy Blythe is busy preparing for the release of his upcoming memoir. The following press release was issued about the book:
"The memoir, which puts emphasis on the past year of his life, is an incredible, harrowing, heartbreaking, and redemptive story told in Blythe’s already well-recognized writing style. It seems that almost every major media outlet has attempted to righteously cover the story of Blythe’s arrest, incarceration, trial, and acquittal for manslaughter in the Czech Republic last year, but now, the man at the center of it all unveils the truths of the ordeal, personally detailing every aspect in his own words. No ghost-writers, no co-authors, just Randy Blythe, himself.
"Randy Blythe is pleased to announce that the rights to this currently untitled memoir, currently slated to hit stores in the spring of 2014, have been sold to Executive Editor Ben Schafer at Da Capo Press by Marc Gerald at The Agency Group. Da Capo Press is a member of American publishing company the Perseus Books Group. Da Capo Press is an excellent home for Blythe’s memoir, as they are already recognized internationally as the publishers of several other memoirs by heavy metal greats like Tony Iommi, Corey Taylor, Rex Brown, and Al Jourgensen."
