We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
37 news articles posted on this day.
Oklahoma's Lost Empires has checked in with the following announcement about lineup changes and working on a new album:
"Hey, Metalheads! We've been taking some time off after tour to enjoy the summer, but we're hard at work writing our next album.
"We've made some changes to our lineup that will be forthcoming. We'd like to thank both Brandon and Brad for bringing their insight, talent, and brotherhood to Lost Empires over the past few years, but we are excited about the direction the band is going, and looking forward to adding some new blood to the band.
"Jeremy will also be making the switch from drums to guitar, because he's fucking sick and tired of lugging around 10000 drums. We are currently holding try-outs for drummers and vocalists, so if for some crazy reason you've always wanted to sing or play drums in a metal band, now is your chance.
"We are also currently in the process of upgrading our touring gear, and so it is with a heavy heart that we are putting the Big Blue Bitch on the market. If you or anyone you know is looking for a HUGE kickass blue van in good condition, send them our way.
"We'll see you soon, Metalheads!"
Garden state metallers Gyre will see the official release of new EP "Second Circle" this coming July 23rd via Monolithic Records.
We recently had the opportunity to premiere a new track off the release (available below), and now we also bring you the words of guitarist Ian McCartney, who explains the EP in more depth.
Read the full interview below to find out about Gyre recording the new EP with Kevin Antressian at Backroom Studios, what's happening in New Jersey metal, and the meaning behind the band's distinctive logo. More...
Opeth has checked in with the following announcement about performing on the Melloboat and writing new material for an upcoming album:
"Opeth will return onboard the Melloboat, organized by Mellotronen records in September. Due to a glitch in the machinery this hasn't been posted til now which have led to some confusion amongst Opeth fans wanting to attend. But we'll be there.
"The festival is held between the 6th and 8th of September onboard the Silja festival cruise ship going from Stockholm to Riga.
"Despite notoriously sea-sick band members, Opeth will take a break in the writing process for record number 11 and be there to entertain. Other bands include Icecross, Trettioåriga kriget, Cressida and horror film score legend Fabio Frizzi among others."
Further information on the Melloboat can be found at this location.
Opeth will be performing in support of latest album "Heritage (reviewed here), which split the band's fan base on the fully prog rock sound. Last year Metalunderground.com took two opposing sides to dissect the album, which features no death growls or extreme metal elements.
Warbeast will be touring with Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals later this summer, but the band has now checked in with the following announcement about seeking replacement dates for the planned Canadian shows:
"Because Warbeast is unable to get into Canada (please don’t ask why)… we are obviously not able to do the 2 Canadian dates with Phil’s new solo band on our upcoming tour with them in August.
"So we are still looking to add a show or 2 or 3 on those off dates. So if any promoters, bands or whoever out there can help us with booking something… please let us know. The dates we have open are August 10th, 11th and 12th.
"The shows would have to be somewhere between Royal Oak Michigan (Detroit) and Worcester Massachusetts. So please don’t start offering any shows that are too far out of that route. Look it up on a map if you have to see if it is something that would work for us. Areas like in Ohio or upstate New York might work. I guess if we can’t book anything on those dates we will have a mini-vacation during the tour… which means we will just have to party our asses off… haha!" More...

In celebration of the impending new studio endeavor from West Coast metal marauders Armed For Apocalypse, today Metal Injection hurls forth the premiere of "Better Worlds (The Void)," the band's first official video ever. Check it out below.
The scathingly vitriolic, down-tuned number comes by way of "The Road Will End," set for release in North America via Ironclad Recordings on July 23, 2013. Elaborated guitarist Cayle Hunter:
"The video was shot by Renderblitz on Father’s Day at our practice spot in Chico, California so this isn't a typical ‘band in a warehouse’ video; it's a ‘band in their practice spot’ video, but our practice spot just happens to be a warehouse. Haha. This is our first ever music video so we're fucking pumped. ‘Better Worlds (The Void)’ is an exercise in simplicity and a shameless exploitation of our low, low tuning. Lyrically, it's all gloom, despair and self destruction. Definitely the most negative song on the record. So naturally we decided to make our first ever video for it." More...
Finland's Myon has issued the following brief announcement about recruiting a new vocalist: "The New lead singer of Myon is the, one and only, Marco Mannermaa. Welcome on board. Check the first sample below."

Recording is expected to be completed in early August and is expected to be mixed and mastered by the end of September, at which time a label will be sought to press and distribute the album. A short video from the studio can be seen below. More...
Canadian act Vesperia has released a five minute long teaser video showcasing 30+ seconds of almost every song off new record "An Olden Tale," which can be viewed below.
This teaser release comes in the wake of the live video clip the band released last week of their performance at the Opera House in Toronto for the 2013 Wacken Metal Battle. The band placed 2nd overall out of hundreds of applicants. Check out the clip here.
Comments Vesperia on taking 2nd place in the Wacken Battle: "A HUGE congrats to our brothers in Crimson Shadows (whom of which our bassist Morgan and drummer Cory also play for) for winning the Wacken Battle last night and moving on to play Wacken Open Air in Germany next month! They did have some tough competition though (wink wink) and we shall join them on tour when they arrive back on Canadian soil!" More...

Canadian progressive metal pioneers Voivod have completed a video for their Century Media debut album, "Target Earth."
The video, created by Italian filmmaker and multimedia artist Nicola Piovesan, was created with 3D Motion Graphics using the visions and artwork of Voivod drummer, Away (Michel Langevin). Check out the video below, courtesy of Metalinjection.net.
Here is what Away had to say upon completion of the video: "I met Nicola Piovesan at the Voivod/Unkind show in Helsinki on October 31, 2012. We had a discussion about my 3D Graphics for the album Negatron and Nicola mentioned the possibility of him doing a 3D Motion video for our new album Target Earth. After viewing his fantastic video for THE CORE by the band ON|OFF|MAN, we knew he was the right person to capture the cyber world of Voivod. To us, the result is simply spectacular!" More...
Progressive metallers Haken recently revealed details of the release for their forthcoming third album "The Mountain," which is due to hit the streets on the 2nd September in Europe and 17th of September 2013 in the USA. This new album will follow previous full-length "Visions" (reviewed here).
In conjunction with the UK's Prog Magazine, you can now hear the first track to be released from the album entitled "Atlas Stone." Check it out below. The band had this to say about the track:
"'Atlas Stone' has a delicate mix of soft chiming passages, jazzy interludes and crunching riffs and encapsulates the spirit of the 'The Mountain' perfectly. The song is exhilarating and uplifting but is tinged with a sense of urgency and desperation which reflects one's journey to the peak of the mountain. We can't wait to play it on our upcoming tour in September!"
Rich Henshall and Charlie Griffiths of the band also recently said of the new album: "Musically, the new songs feel rawer and more emotional than anything we've created in the past. All the essential elements of our sound are still there but have been delivered in a more gritty and focussed style. We've really pushed ourselves in all areas and truly believe that this album is a step up from any of our previous work, so we are extremely excited about sharing 'The Mountain' with everybody." "Unblackened," the new live DVD, Blu-ray, and digital video from Black Label Society will be released on September 24th, 2013 by Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Additionally, Zakk Wylde's label home, eOne Music, will release the audio version of the "Unblackened" DVD under the same name. The double disc release will have six additional tracks not found on the DVD, including two acoustic versions of "Queen Of Sorrow" and "Won't Find It Here," and covers of Leon Russell’s “Song For You” and “Aint No Sunshine When She's Gone” by Bill Withers.
Filmed and recorded earlier this year in high definition at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia, "Unblackened" is Black Label Society presenting songs in a whole new light, with greater use of acoustic instrumentation. Wylde plays both guitar and piano, with Nick Catanase on guitar, John DeServio on bass/vocals, Chad Szeliga on drums, Derek Sherinian on keyboards/piano, and Greg Locascio providing additional vocals.
In addition to the concert, "Unblackened" is rich in bonus material. A new interview with Zakk, photo gallery, music video for “Losin’ Your Mind,” and a feature with Wylde visiting HM Prison Stocken in the U.K. are all included. More...
True Widow’s forthcoming album, "Circumambulation" (due out July 23rd on Relapse Records), is now streaming in its entirety via Pitchfork Advance here.
The album, which once again reunites the Dallas-based trio with producer Matt Pence (Yuck, Jay Farrar), was described by NPR as “hyponotic,” with Alternative Press saying Circumambulation “is wrapped in spidery melody, reverb-haunted twang and plodding, almost processional rhythms.”
“I’ve always considered us a simple band but these songs seem even more boiled down,” explained singer/guitar player DH Phillips when news of the release was announced in April. “I’d say the pace is a little different as well. Things are a bit more upbeat.”
True Widow will join Chelsea Wolfe for a full national tour this September (dates below). The band will also perform an August 7th hometown show at Club Dada in Dallas and recently confirmed a spot on Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest this fall. Dates are as follows: More...

Commented the band: "We're super excited to be coming back to Europe for our fifth time! And this time we're going to be bringing along some new music that we've never been able to play overseas! We haven't been able to tour with Parkway Drive since our very first time in Europe in 2010 on the Never Say Die tour, so it's really exciting for us to be able to support them. We're also on the Vans Warped Tour right now in the States, and it's been amazing - I expect nothing less out of the Europe Vans Warped Tour!" More...
Kataklysm will film a new music video in Belgrade, Serbia next month with director Ivan Colic from iCode Productions (Ex Deo, Soilwork, Moonspell, etc.) whose previous work includes Kataklysm’s "Push The Venom" video and Ex Deo’s "Romulus" and "Final War (Battle Of Actium)" videos.
Filming will commence in August for “a very ambitious & sick" video clip for the song "Elevate" from Kataklysm’s forthcoming concept album "Waiting For The End To Come."
According to the band, the plan is to bring the viewers into a visual masterpiece of chaos, a chaos based around the ideals of death, the purpose of life, the human factor, and the semi-coma state that most people in this world exist in.
Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono states: "In a nutshell, we believe we wrote the most intense, intricate storyline for a video clip ever made in death metal and our genre. Big statement? Well, we’ve got big ideas and we need to put it to life with crazy visuals. We hired the man who has the balls and the artistic capacity to execute this task plus one of the best special FX teams in Europe to back him up. It's time to up the game. We’re back and we’re swinging hard."
Kataklysm's "Waiting For The End To Come" will be released worldwide this October.

Finnish symphonic black metal band In Silentio Noctis has resurfaced after three years since the debut LP "Through Fragments of Christianity" was released in 2010. With an all new lineup, featuring members of Rapture, Rain Paint, Carnal Demise and Spirit Disease surrounding founder (and multi-musician) Armi Päivinen, the band has announced the impending release of a new EP "Disenchant The Hypocrites." The EP will be released on August 5th via My Kingdom Music. The track "Chapter I: The Pit" is streaming below.
The EP concept deals with the hypocrisy of both God and his servants. Once again the band fuses Scandinavian melancholy with the most obscure side of symphonic black metal in a majestic mix of Emperor’s darkness with the great Therion’s orchestrations, everything led by the beautifully haunting, operatic vocal delivery by Armi. The release is for fans of Draconian, ealy Anathema, My Dying Bride and Isis.
