O'Captain My Captain barely started out in the winter of 2011 and has already shared the stage with artists such as Molotov Solution and Like Wolves at a Mesa show. Chilean thrash metal band Nuclear has released “Apatrida” via Digmetalworld Records in the U.S. and Sick Bangers Metal Label & Distro in Chile, available on July 25th in Digital and Digipack format, and by late October in Gatefold LP. You may listen to the entire new five-song EP at Digmetalworld, or stream it below.
The new album "Apatrida" was produced by Sebastian Puente and Francisco Haussmann at Audio Custom Studios in Santiago, Chile. The art work was done by Claudio Botarro, who was in charge of translating the band’s idea of a controversial and direct message about the current Chilean political status. Members of the band commented on the new album:
“We tried to bring a powerful concept using iconic figures of Chilean political history. The same old factions fighting over who has the power and money, as true vultures. For those who have no intention of making things right, this is our message. The band has always been straightforward and up front in its albums and we didn’t make an exception this time”
“We had this idea to put out an EP which we think has more flexibility in terms of composition and sound. It is very aggressive material and lyric-wise it has a strong political content. We know for sure it will appeal to those who like our music," stated the guitarists Sebastian and Francisco.
The "Apatrida" promotional tour has already confirmed the following dates:
July 25 @ Teatro Caupolican, Santiago CL (w/ At The Gates)
August 18 @ Club 334, Santiago CL (w/ Poema Arcanvs)
August 31 @ San Luis Potosi, Mexico (w/ Malevolent Creation y Absu)
September 01 @ Mexico DF, Mexico (Ultrametal Festival w/ Malevolent Creation, Absu, Hate Eternal)
This Friday the 13th, Abyss Records is set to unleash the final selection from the Summer of Sickness Campaign 2012 with "Rock N' Rott," the debut from Finland's horror-worshiping heavy rock duo Rocking Corpses. Rocking Corpses was conceived in the end of 2007 after vocalist/guitarist Tony DK realized what kind of music he really wanted to do.
Being a big fan of bluesy rock, death metal and horror, Rocking Corpses was going to be a mixture of all that he loved in music and movies. Some months later, bassist/vocalist Leper Laze got interested in the idea and joined forces with Tony. In 2009 two demo songs were recorded and in 2010 they decided to record a whole 10 piece story about the apocalypse as seen through the eyes of a zombie. Below is the tracklisting and cover art of "Rock N' Rott," plus a fan-made video for the track "925" follows after the jump.
1. Intro - Into the Grave
2. Up from the Grave
4. For Better for Worse
5. Take a Whiskey
6. Life for a Life
8. Rocking Corpses
9. In the Dead of Night
11. Dead End
A medical relief fund has been set up for Cro-Mags bass player Mike "The Gook" Couls, after he was stabbed by former Cro-Mags bassist Harley Flanagan last week. A statement from the BlackNBlue Productions website reads as follows:
"In lieu of recent events at the Cro-Mags show this past weekend at Webster Hall, the family of Mike “The Gook” Couls has set up a donation fund via PayPal to help absorb the extraordinary expenses accrued from having been stabbed multiple times and hospitalized – with no insurance.
"Mike is a recent parent of a beautiful baby girl who could have very easily been left fatherless due to the erratic and callous actions of the perpetrator, Harley Flanagan. It is with great fortune that the aforementioned possibility is not the reality, however, the enormous bills from the hospital are.
"A lifetime of commitment is what Mike “The Gook” has offered the greater Hardcore community. We ask that you please donate in honor of his dedication to this community we are all a part of and also in support of his family."
If you would like to donate to the fund, please send any and all money to firstname.lastname@example.org (please mark payment as "donation.")

"...And Justice For Art" is the result of the tireless efforts from the series' mastermind and frequent PureGrain writer Ramon Martos-Garcia, who is also known in the underground scene for his involvement with Third World Metal bands like Archaios, Divinis Invocat and the indie record label Dark Canvas Records. "In the past, there have been many attempts to tell stories about this subject ", says Ramon, "but never with this level of hindsight and detail. I think what will make this series different is that we are telling stories from different points of view and exploring these cover artworks from a human, psychological, artistic and historical perspective. I truly believe this will be something very unique and special and that everyone reading these articles will be learning and discovering new things about Contemporary Arts and Metal."

Founding Neurosis guitarist/vocalist Scott Kelly is preparing to release his new solo album in North America via Neurot Records on August 14th.
The past two years have seen Scott Kelly touring across three continents, besides recording for and releasing a split 7? with Wino and the most recent Songs of Townes Van Zandt tribute album with Wino and fellow Neurosis mate Steve Von Till. The following press release was issued about the album:
"The new full-length sees Kellyonce again digging deep into very personal territories as on his previous solo works including his lauded Spirit Bound Flesh and The Wake, yet forges a brand new path as fellow musicians Noah Landis (Neurosis) and Greg Dale join this new venture as Scott Kelly And The Road Home. Jason Roeder (Neurosis, Sleep) and Josh Graham (A Storm Of Light) make guest appearances on the album’s seventh track 'The Field That Surrounds Me' and the cover art for the album was completed by Thomas Hooper.
"The eight tracks found on the new opus, entitled The Forgiven Ghost In Me, was recorded by Landis, and runs deep with over forty minutes of foreboding Americana over eight new anthems, showcasing the ever-evolving artist brandishing some of his most expressive hymns of pain, reflection and redemption to date."
Stated Scott Kelly on the album: “This record continues my passion for acoustic experimentation, this time with a more fleshed out sound and a more diverse use of musicians and instrumentation. But in the end, as I have stated before, this is all about the songs in their rawest form. The stories that they reveal and the emotions that run rampant through my heart.” More...

Parkway Drive is currently bunkered down in a Los Angeles studio hard at work on the band's fourth album. The as-yet-untitled effort is the follow-up to 2010’s "Deep Blue," which debuted #39 in the U.S. on the Billboard 200, #2 in Australia, as well as reaching solid Gold and winning the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock and Metal Album.
Fans are invited to check out in-studio photos by heading over to Altpress.com.
The recording is due to take seven weeks, which is the longest time the band has spent on any album. Production is being overseen by Matt Hyde, whose vast resume includes Slayer, Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Hatebreed, and Children of Bodom.
Parkway Drive vocalist Winston McCall comments, “When we finished Deep Blue I was like, ‘I don’t know where we go from here?’ But if there was ever a way to step up from the last record, this is the way to do it. We’re expanding in every way we can. But at the same time – and I say this with every new record – it still sounds like Parkway.”
Stay tuned for title, artwork, and tracklisting details in the coming weeks. In other news, Parkway Drive will also be heading out on tour with Emmure this November.
Today the bestial beings at Decibel bring to the masses “Within Darkness,” the second track off "Perdition Of The Sublime" from German tech death manipulators, Sophicide. Puncture your eardrums on "Within Darkness" over at this location.
Comments founder Adam Laszlo of the track: “‘Within Darkness’ is a song about radical religion — more specifically radical islamists, people who are brought up to defy every form of sanity and reason and stop at nothing to live up to their hideous and inane beliefs. Our society needs to overcome this insanity. It’s time to discard our gods and ‘holy scriptures’ and reach for intellectual enlightenment!”
Set for North American release on August 14th, 2012 via Willowtip Records, "Perdition Of The Sublime" was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Laszlo at his home studio and features 11 smoldering hymns of complex yet rhythmic brutality. Formed as a one-man-project in 2009 by Laszlo, Sophicide means “murder of wisdom” and serves as the central theme of "Perdition Of The Sublime." More...
Greece's Blindfold has posted a playthrough video online for the song "A Beautiful Discord," which can be viewed below. The band also commented on its sound and history:
"Blindfold try not to set limits within their music. They combine lots of the music elements in their style. From sweet, slow, melodies and harmonies to heavy, fast and techniqual riffs and solos Blindfold reach the hearts of not only rock and metal fans.
"Blindfold were formed in the year 2007 by Nick Mavromatis and Alex Malioukis. Many line up changes took place while Blindfold were trying to find their sound and musicians capable to cope with the requirments Nick and Alex had set for their band. After many audiences with musicians Blindfold found the best within their age." More...
Empress is a new prog quartet from Berkshire, which will be releasing a debut single in the form of double a-side "Left In Awe / Nostalgia" on September 16th. The band will also be supporting Baroness on 12th July at the Barfly in Camden. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Empress has been writing since the start of 2011, honing their style together; quietly and carefully. The result is a sound that belies their young age – all are in their early 20s. Soothing and vicious in turn, they juxtapose gentle harmonies with frantic ferocity; relaxed strumming followed by a detonating roar.
"There are as many elements of Mastodon, Metallica and Opeth in the music as there are of the more melodic Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Elbow – all huge bands and all huge influences on Empress. If that seems like quite the motley crew, you’ll understand why Empresses’s sound is so hard to pin down."

Reign Of Vengeance has released the music video for "She's Best Kept Headless." This version is without the story line cut scenes and depicts the band performing within the desert underneath the scorching and tormenting Arizona sun.
Vocalist Marshal "Fucking" Beck comments, "For those of you visually-gore obsessed fanatics that version will be coming soon. For now, you'll have to read the lyrics and allow the demented part of your own mind to visualize the brutal, blood-soaked, and horrifying story line as it unfolds. Olden day style when people actually knew how to read books and use their own imaginations to visualize certain things for themselves. The lyrics are within the description."
The video for "She's Best Kept Headless" was shot and edited by www.HorrorMerch.com. The band has recently started work on the follow-up to its 2011 release, "Disemboweling Swine". Sometime during 1980 searching for a harder/faster outlet than the current NYC punk rock trend, three teenagers from Jackson Heights, Queens: Jack Flanagan, Jose Gonzalez and Ralph Gebbia formulated The Mob. Once the concept was established they added high-school bud Jamie Shanahan on drums, to round out the 4 piece assault. The early Mob sound was heavily influenced by what was going on in L.A. and D.C.
Fast forward to 2012 and The Mob is back in business. This year's Black N' Blue Bowl marked The Mob's return to the stage and to the forefront of the NYHC scene after a ten year absence. Along with performing at the Black N' Blue Bowl this year, The Mob has recorded newest offering "Back to Queens" which will be released in true "MobStyle" as a 7" vinyl including the track "That's It." This release is limited to 1000 individually hand numbered copies which were signed by all four members of the band.
"Back To Queens" is the first in a series of four 7" singles that will be released by The Mob on Weathermaker Music. The artwork for the singles was created by New York tattoo artist Mr. Den. While each single has its own distinct artwork, once all four are released each piece takes on a new meaning as one part of a complete piece of art. There will also be a digital version of the single available which includes a bonus offering of "Zoo Crew." More...

Australian act 4ARM recently announced the band was dropping off its first ever U.S. run, dubbed the "Zombie Apocalypse" tour, due to problems with Nemesis Records and having to play subpar venues. Nemesis Records has now issued the following statement about the issue and the venue in question:
"It is unfortunate that we had to drop 4ARM from the Zombie Apocalypse Tour. It became clear to us that the band’s refusal to play The Workshop, and their choice to leave the venue instead of supporting their tour mates would negatively affect the morale of the entire tour. We strive to promote a culture of solidarity between the bands and with the club promoters we work with. We did not feel it was in anyone’s best interest for the bands, promoters, managers, and most importantly, the fans to be finding out if 4ARM was playing each date as we rolled into the venue.
"With regards to the venues along the tour route, The Workshop has seen great metal acts including: Six Feet Under, All Shall Perish, and Dying Fetus. Also, there are a number of bigger name venues on the route including: The Dirty Dog Bar in Austin, TX, El Corazon in Seattle, WA, and The Oakland Metro in Oakland, CA(where the tour is set to end at the Bay Area Metal Festival).
"In addition, each band was provided proper directions, dates, times, and the contact numbers for both of the tour managers.
"We wish 4ARM the best, and there are no hard feelings from our end. We would also like to thank CVDM(Central Valley Death Metal) for their hospitality at the Workshop, we are looking forward to the rest of tour with the remaining bands, and we appreciate everyone’s hard work toward making The Zombie Apocalypse Tour a success."

Finnish extreme melodic metal superstars, Children of Bodom, have released the following statement regarding their frontman Alexi Laiho's stay in an Oslo hospital for the past week and a half:

U.K. based act Sylosis has just released both versions of the cover artwork for the upcoming album “Monolith.” The artwork can be viewed below was handled this time by Dan Goldsworthy. Vocalist and guitar player Josh Middleton commented:
"We're beyond pleased with the artwork for Monolith. It needed to be something to accentuate the dark, gloomy vibe of the album without going for anything too cliche' or stereotypically metal. We listen to a lot of 70s progressive music and with the Art Nouveau style was quite popular at that time. At this point we don't want to reveal too much about the concept but one of the figures on the cover loosely represents the devil in disguise or a satyr. Some of the inspiration behind the concept came from Greek mythology.
"Working with Dan again as awesome. He's very patient, eager to please and can very quickly tap into what we're trying to put across. We always like to pay as much attention to the artwork as possible and it's never been an after thought for us. It's about creating a complete piece of work so the music and the packaging really go hand in hand."
Dan Goldsworthy also states: “Visually, the cover artwork for Monolith has taken notable inspiration from the Art Nouveau movement. Diverting from the usual flowery aesthetic of the style, Monolith has a significantly darker vein running thoughout, as fitting with the sonic nihilism of Sylosis’ music. More...
Cleveland, Ohio's Affiance has released a lyric video for the band's new single "You Will Be Replaced," which is available below.
Affiance singer Dennis Tvrdik previously commented on the song: "To be honest, we are pissed off. This song is a message to everyone who has slammed doors in our faces or tried to hold us back. Your taunts have only increased our pace. It's the beginning of the end. We feel this is the best song we have written and we're excited to finally share it with our fans, and hope it will cure any confusion about what type of band we are or what genre we belong in. It's far more metal and a more fine-tuned version of our best stuff from our first album, No Secret Revealed."

Eyeconoclast also commented, "We are very proud to announce a worldwide deal with Prosthetic Records (Beneath The Massacre, Septicflesh, Hour of Penance, Gojira). This is the right boost to spread Eyeconoclast music throughout planet Earth, and we feel very excited for this achievement after years of Death Metal training within the underground.
"We are back with a new label and a new singer, so guys say welcome to Giuseppe Di Giorgio, a killer vocalist and great frontman that you'll see in our next shows! We are going to start recording our next full-length on July 21, in our guitar player -Stefano Morabito's- 16th Cellar Studio (Hour of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Inherit Disease). Stay tuned for more album details, but know this: it will be faster, heavier and louder than anything else you've listened before! Headbang is the law."

The Maryland DeathFest organizers have posted the following on the festival's Facebook page in regard to MDF 2013:
Greetings, everyone. In case the rumor hasn't made it to your ears, we can let you know that Sonar (the home of MDF since 2006) is closing. Why? That's not important. What is important is that we've known about this situation for months, and we were already searching for a new location only a few days after MDF X ended. Currently, we have THREE locations to choose from, all of which would be in Baltimore. Once some more logistical and financial planning takes place, we can make a decision on next year's location. With a little luck, we'll reveal that info before the end of July. Worst case scenario, we'll let you know sometime in August.
In the meantime, we will be announcing the first round of confirmed bands for MDF XI very soon, maybe even as early as next week.
Maryland Deathfest XI is scheduled to take place on May 23-26, 2013 in the Baltimore area, at a venue to be determined.
