Progressive thrash progenitors Toxik have revealed a snippet of their first recorded song in twenty-four years. The fifty second clip is a rough pre-mix demo (sans vocals) of “Crooked Crosses” off of the yet-to-be-titled follow up to 1989’s “Think This.” Founding member and lead guitarist, Josh Christian, comments on the new music:
"I know it's been a long time and one of the things I always think about is my own reaction when I hear about older bands recording, it's like "Oh no... not again" because let's be honest, it's usually an underwhelming listen and a lot of times it kills the band’s legacy for the fans... but I have a feeling that people are going to be surprised by the intensity and power of our new material. The songwriting demo's which are really just me arranging the parts and programming drums have been getting rave reviews from random listeners in the bands circle... it’s so inspiring for us. We haven't spun off into Nu metal and we aren't trying to rewrite World Circus, It's definitely Toxik, but it isn't your dad's version"
Further information regarding touring, album release date, festival appearances, and album title will be revealed in the coming weeks and months. You can also read our "Sunday Old School" column at the band over here. More...

Hailing from France, Crown (not to be confused with The Crown) consists of two men and a machine who tune their neutron guitars to the Richter scale, and deliver the sound of a molten universe collapsing.
Candlelight Records will be releasing Crown's "Psychurgy" on June 18th, 2013 as part of the label's Cult Series. Candlelight also comments:
"Touching on early Isis, Godflesh, Floor and even Killing Joke, Crown explores the depths of slow tempos through sheer exuberant heaviness.
"The duo’s depth-charging guitars and buried melodic tendencies on latest offering, Psychurgy, snake around hissing electronics, a tribal/military percussive thwack, and the splashing cymbals of a minimal-yet-completely-effective drum-machine.
"Their sound is further emboldened by a massive bestial roar, heavy and oppressive, leading to an abyss of nothingness…. Crown's Psychurgy is dark, spiralng, and obscure and a music trip you won't soon forget."
Avant-garde metal act Scibex has just released first album "Path To Omors." The album is available for free download or for purchase.

As "Tempest," the debut LP from Bay Area funeral doom unit Lycus nears release this July 9th via Washington-based 20 Buck Spin, today the first single from the release is available. Check out "Coma Burn" via Pitchfork.com here. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Having existed since 2008 in some form or another, Lyrucsentered hometown Earhammer Studios with Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Asunder, Pallbearer, Vastum, Samothrace, High On Fire), who captured and mixed the band’s immense Tempest LP. A mature, diverse and utterly monumental album, the three massive hymns on Tempest range between nine-and-a-half minutes to over twenty.
"The canvas of this masterwork is classic funeral doom in the territory of Mournful Congregation, Asunder and My Dying Bride, yet the template is varied as Lycus' palette includes shades of hysteric black metal, old-school death doom pummeling, and even a bit of pull from noise/drone realms. Featuring an incredible oil painting by the Italian madman Paolo Girardi as cover art and a regal layout by Kevin Gan Yuen of Sutekh Hexen (who also contributes musically to the album’s closing moments), Tempest is the most promising debut of 2013 in the doom genre.
"Lycus is planning U.S. Summer tour actions across the West Coast with dates to be announced shortly, and will traverse the continent to wash away the East Coast in the Autumn months."
The "Tempest" track listing is:

IWrestledABearOnce will release third studio album, "Late For Nothing," on August 6th via Century Media Records.
"Late For Nothing" was self-produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by guitarist/programmer Steven Bradley at the band’s home studio in Los Angeles. It also marks IWABO’s first record with fiery new singer Courtney LaPlante, who joined the band with only a day’s notice during last summer’s Vans Warped Tour.
Newly recharged with the addition of LaPlante, Bradley and cohorts John Ganey (guitar/programming), Mike “Rickshaw” Martin (bass) and Mikey Montgomery (drums) are set to keep their fans guessing with "Late For Nothing."
"The entire album came together as a result of us wanting to do something different," affirms Bradley. "We didn't want to make another weird IWABO album or whatever people were expecting. We set out to make something different and better than anything we've ever released. It's a more evolved version of the band. We explored new styles and genres as well—especially in terms of the more spacey, epic, and beautiful parts. It's got the most melodic moments of our career as well as the heaviest." More...

German doom metal magazine Doom Metal Front, now on its tenth print issue as well, is streaming the newest and eighth of its renowned compilations. The anthology, titled "Tears from the Mediterranean," features 50 bands from southern European countries and Mediterranean island nations such as Malta. You may also stream the previous five compilations on that page and listen to the full tome below.
Doom Metal Front is an independent, bilingual (German/English), printed and digital paper spreading the doom over the world. They prefer sluggish riffing, slow rocking and experimental droning stuff, because they are 'born too late.' They ascribe to the belief that 'if you think this music is kind of paralyzing, then you are definitely too fast.'
Vocalist David DiSanto of Philadelphia sci-fi thrash act Vektor has posted the following message online about being arrested after splashing beer on a religious protester:
"Hey everybody, David here. I’ve spent the past few days settling into 'normal' life and enjoying being home, so even though the coals may have cooled a bit since this weekend, I wanted to give my side of the story.
"A lot has been said about what happened, and I just want to clarify a few things. I did not haul out and throw a beer bottle at someone. I was around someone who I felt was antagonizing an event and people I cared about. I was annoyed, and I had a beer in my hand. (Something I’m sure many of you can relate to.) What I did was a momentary lapse in judgment, nothing more, nothing less.
"I’m not some meathead or asshole who would pick on someone for their beliefs. I don’t give a shit what anyone’s personal beliefs are (unless their beliefs include hatred towards a specific gender, race, or sexual orientation – those people are assholes). What the protester was doing wasn’t right – but now that I look back on it, what I did wasn’t right either. I do believe that people have the right to protest, but I guess I draw the line when it borders on insanity. People who show up at a public gathering spouting their extremist beliefs would better serve society in a mental institution. More...

I will always support you in the future as a fan and friend."

Dutch metal act ReVamp, featuring Ex-After Forever and live Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen, has announced that the band's sophomore LP will be entitled "Wild Card." The album is set to drop on August 23, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records. A trailer for the release, which includes the album's artwork can be viewed below.
Jansen commented on how the title of the record came to be: "This album became the most aggressive album I've ever made and in the lyrics I tell a lot about my personal experiences of the last years. This resulted into some heavy stories and some openhearted 'screams' I needed out of my system. It matches the violence of the music in a great way, we wrote as a great team! But not one sentence or word can really cover the contents of this album. Its variety in all its ingredients makes it almost impossible. A wild card is an unpredictable and unforeseeable factor. You don't know what you're getting, or when. That's this album! It's 100% ReVamp and it's your wild card!"
Jansen went on to explain about the album's concept, which can be taken literally in the album artwork: "I am the queen of hearts on it, who is a wild card herself. You see a 'nice' and a 'nasty' queen. The nasty one has a cracked lip, cuts in her face and a bleeding heart in her hand. The other queen looks nice even though queens of hearts never truly are... Again, what is it you're going to get? In that respect it visualizes the music, from aggressive and nasty to melodic and pretty. This theme has been important to me personally throughout my career and also in this album I played with it to the max. I used my voice in so many different ways now! The music invited me to do this, I am super proud of the amazing guitar riffs, the versatile and groovy but mega tight drums and the keyboard sounds and arrangements that bring something new to the table. We hope you like our wild card!" More...
