Christa L. Titus of Billboard.com has issued the following report:
Since the news broke in mid-May that WICKED WISDOM, the group fronted by actress Jada Pinkett Smith, will play at this year's Ozzfest, little has been heard about the act or how it landed such a coveted gig. But whatever its music sounds like, it convinced tour organizer Sharon Osbourne to put the band on the bill.
"I wasn't sure what to expect when I went to see Wicked Wisdom play last April in a tiny [Los Angeles] club at midnight," Osbourne says. "But let me tell you, I was blown away. When you see and hear Jada with her band it's apparent that she has nothing but love and respect for this genre of music. I totally respect that the band wants to pay their dues playing the second stage on Ozzfest."
WICKED WISDOM is writing all the material for its debut album, which it is co-producing with Ulrich Wild (P.O.D., INCUBUS, STATIC-X). The group is managed by James Lassiter and Miguel Melendez at Overbrook Entertainment, the production/management company owned by Pinkett Smith's actor/rapper husband, Will Smith.
Ozzfest isn't WICKED WISDOM's first high-profile gig: In April and May 2004 the act opened dates on the European leg of BRITNEY SPEARS' Onyx Hotel tour. A spokesperson for WICKED WISDOM says the group — rounded out by Fish (drums), Pocket (guitar), Rio (bass) and Korel (guitar/keyboards) — is "locked down" in a studio recording the album.
Former SPINESHANK frontman Jonny Santos has issued the following update on his SILENT CIVILIAN project:
"I know I havent posted in a while but as I'm sure you all know, I have been busy as hell. Well there is a lot going on right now and I think you guys/girls should know what is happening. There is bad news, and good news.
"Bad news. Due to personal reasons not related to the band, Ryan [Ready, guitar] has decided to bow out and leave the band. This was not an easy decision for him and he will truely be missed. I have been friends with Ryan since high school and have had the pleasure of being in two bands with him and his presence has always brought a smile to my face and those who have had the opportunity to play with him. Chris [Mora, drums], Henno [bass], and myself wish him only the best in life and hope that he finds the peace he is looking for. He said to tell all of you that he is sorry, and he thanks you for the support given during his time in SILENT CIVILIAN. I am sure we will eventually see Ryan surface in something else, but he has much to deal with right now and this band is too demanding of him at this present time. Thank you, Ryan, you will be missed.
"OK, onto the good news. Because of Ryan's departure, we were in a scramble to find someone good, and someone fast. I thought of a lot of people and the one person whom I knew would be right for the job was an old friend of mine by the name of Tim Mankowski. I have known Tim for roughly 15 years and he just so happened to be in BASIC ENIGMA with me and Tommy for a couple of years. He was a shredder back then, and he still is. So… I want everyone to give Tim a big ol SILENT CIVILIAN welcome!! He auditioned the day after Ryan left and is currently up to pace with us in less than a week. He is a great guy and a very talented guitar player. We look forward to having a great carreer together. As soon as he has a MySpace page, we will post a link.
"Finally, we [have posted] the last and final song you guys will get till the record comes out. . .The name of the song is 'Divided' and [is] the first song you hear when you load the [MySpace] page.
"Those of you who are on the West Coast might get an opportunity to see the band live as we are preparing to play a few dates in California next month. We will be playing in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area just to have a little fun. We feel we should get our feet wet, and hope our Cali fans can make it out. I will post the dates as soon as they are booked."

He recalls, "I was totally destroyed. You try aligning your chakra after a gallon of whisky.
"But the thing is I still tried. I can do both."

SOULFLY have finalzed the track listing for their new album, "Dark Ages", due on September 13 via Roadrunner Records.

"Dark Ages" final track listing:

03. I And I
04. Carved Inside
05. Arise Again
07. Inner Spirit
08. Corrosion Creeps
10. Riot Starter
12. (The) March
13. Fuel The Hate
14. Stay Strong
15. Soulfly V
In a recent interview with SoulflyWeb.com, Cavalera had the following to say about the upcoming CD: "The events that took place this past December, with the death of Dimebag Darrell and the passing of [Max's step-grandson] Moses, had a huge influence on the way that I chose to present this album, so I'd say that that made it a bit darker. We did some of the recordings in France, Turkey, and Russia and we used some instruments that you could only find in those countries. Those recordings will definitely have a strong effect on the direction that the worldly and atmospheric elements of the album take. But Marc [Rizzo, guitar] and Joe [Nunez, drums], those guys are both huge metalheads, and they kind of forced me to make a very heavy, brutal album. I don't listen to metal as much as I used to, but Marc just lives and breathes metal. Everything like LAMB OF GOD, SLAYER, MAIDEN, NAPALM DEATH, and some extremely crazy death metal shit. He loves to play those riffs and he's amazing at it, so that'll be on there, too."
OBITUARY, NAPALM DEATH, DEAD TO FALL, and one other act TBA has been announced for a September 1st show at Jaxx in Springfield, VA. More info coming soon concerning other tour dates.

NBC 4 has issued the following report:
The Columbus police officer who ended a nightclub shooting rampage with one shot and the radio dispatcher who guided officers to the scene discussed the incident Monday with NBC 4.
A homemade video of the shooting was released Friday. The camera was positioned at the back right portion of the stage looking into the audience as Nathan Gale began shooting during the DAMAGEPLAN concert at Alrosa Villa on Dec. 8, 2004, NBC 4's Teresa Garcia reported.
When 911 calls came in to police, dispatcher Lisa Lee stayed calm through harrowing events.
"This is probably the worst situation dispatching I've ever been in," Lee said.
Lee, who was handling the radio channel for about 30 minutes, guided officers to the scene. More...
