Three fans with a handheld video camera documented their trip to see Dragonforce in Houston, TX. The resulting “rockumentary” is portrait of adolesence and fandom. You probably don’t need to watch more than a few seconds of this to get the idea, but the point at 5:42 where one kid shows us “the hand that touched Herman Li” and another excitedly details how keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov wrapped his arm around his shoulders is AMAZING. The "rockumentary" can be found entitled "On Fandom" at the following location: http://www.thedeciblog.com/ More...
Meldrum vocalist Michele Madden has issued the following statement on the passing of her bandmate Michelle Meldrum, who died on May 21 as a result of a cystic growth that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain, rendering her braindead.
"My black heart is broken. It has taken me a while to get my head around all of this, but I wanted to thank all the fans of both Meldrum and Tourettes who have reached out to me over this horrible time. We are all so saddened, and I have been inundated with so much mail from those who were touched by Michelle that I have been unable to answer all of it. That’s why I wanted to get this out, to let the fans know that it is gratefully received and that it means so much to me right now..."
Madden and her Meldrum band mates are still pushing forward putting the finishing touches on the new album to release later in the year. They decided that they will continue recording and touring as a unit, keeping the project name to honor their fallen band mate.
"I am angry and shattered that this unexpected tragedy had to happen to such a wonderful woman, and I am gonna use that in the songs. I am about to go into the studio with producer Rob Shallcross in Vancouver to get all the ends tied up. Its going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done but not doing it would be even harder."
Drummer Gene Hoglan is currently on tour with Dethklok, but Madden claims that they will coordinate and be in constant contact while she is in the studio.
Bleeding Through posted a guest blog on Headbanger's Blog announcing the song titles for their upcoming album, "Declaration," and revealing a relationship of disharmonies with their current label, Trustkill Records. Some excerpts from the blog follow:
It has been months and we have kept silent. But this latest slap in the face from our supposed record label has pushed us over the edge. We just read on the Internet that Josh Grabelle plans to release a “special edition” of our 2006 album “The Truth” one month before releasing our new album. Let it be known that Bleeding Through is 100% against this so-called “special” edition. We did not approve the title, cover artwork (whatever it is), track-listing or bonus features for this transparent and obvious cash-grab of a re-release from a record label that despite selling a quarter of a million of our albums worldwide is having problems.
Trustkill no longer employs his sales guy, his art director or his publicist. “Trustkill” is now Josh and one employee in his basement, as far as we can tell. We have kept silent about the fact that we made our new album with a loan from our singer’s dad, a loan from our management and less than 25% of our recording fund from Trustkill. They breached our contract (not for the first time) on March 31st, 2008 when we hit the studio without proper funding and have failed to cure the breach.
Several labels have contacted Josh to help put out our album but he has jerked most of them around and has not come to terms on a deal to get this album out, which we are SO proud of, with the push it deserves. As of right now we have no idea who is supposed to be releasing our album overseas, or even really in the US for that matter. Josh’s website says our album is coming out in August but he hasn’t paid for it so we don’t see how that’s possible. For years now, we’ve watched photographers, graphic designers, equipment companies, bus companies and producers struggle to get paid their invoices and wait for months and months before being compensated for their work.
In better news, here are the song titles (for the first time anywhere) from DECLARATION, which we hope actually comes out someday! We want you all to hear it so bad. We know Trustkill doesn’t have the resources to get it out there and we’re prepared for low sales as a result, BUT, there’s NO WAY we’re handing over a master without the minimum money that was due to everyone so we can pay off Devin (Townsend, producer for 'Declaration'), Brandan’s dad, our manager and credit cards.
Josh PROVE US WRONG by meeting your obligations, or LET US OFF YOUR RECORD LABEL ENTIRELY.

Thrash metallers The Accursed have posted the following message:
"After seven years, four of the five members of THE ACCURSED have called it quits. This is just an end to one era of THE ACCURSED, with Jonathan [Helme, vocals], Chris [Helme, drums], Timothy [Giblin, guitar] and Metal George [bassist George Pacheco] choosing to go their separate ways, and Loki [guitar] deciding to continue on into the unknown. It feels like we just couldn't keep going on the route we were headed; we needed change. We have grown apart musically, and our opinions on where THE ACCURSED should go from here differed between members so drastically that there would be no way to make everyone happy." More...
Former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch has announced that his debut solo album "Save Me From Myself" will be released on September 9th. The albums first single, entitled "Flush", will be available on iTunes on July 8th.
The album takes its name from Welch's book "Save Me From Myself: How I Found God, Quit Korn, Kicked Drugs And Lived To Tell The Story", which chronicles his famous conversion to Christianity and departure from the band. The album also contains the song "A Cheap Name" which is a lyrical attack on rapper 50 Cent. In an interview with CNN, Welch said "I'm not saying I'm better than him, I'm saying that God is telling me something and God is telling me something to tell you, I'm the translator. You can listen if you want but things are gonna happen."
Brian Welch is planning a major tour and all profits from the album will be donated to "Help Indian children get to know God."
Billboard.com reports that after a 12-year absence, King's X returned to The Billboard 200 last week with "XV" (InsideOut/SPV), debuting at No. 145.
Guitarist Ty Tabor commented: "I like a larger percentage of this record than I have in a very long time. There are a few that I think are undeniably some of the best stuff Doug [Pinnick] has come up with," he says.
This summer, King's X is teaming with the recently reunited Extreme for a series of dates on the Rock'n'Roll Fantasy Camp Tour, beginning July 29 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Taking its name from an ongoing annual camp in which fans get to play with renowned rockers, the tour will feature an opening performance by campers joined by Gilby Clarke, Elliot Easton and Glenn Hughes, among others.
"They're filming it for a reality show," Tabor says, adding that he's particularly excited to see Hughes perform each night. "But I'm looking forward to it, because I don't know what to expect."

Swedish black metallers VANMAKT have issued the following update:
"Yesterday we entered the EPM Studio to record our new album Ad Luciferi Regnum that will be mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna in Necromorbus Studio (WATAIN, SETHERIAL) and is to be released by Pulverised Records.
At the moment were working on getting a good drum sound and we hope to record the first drum track either this evening or tomorrow! We are in no hurry this time and it feels really good that we can record this album in our hometown with a close friend behind the 'steering wheel.' Vanmakt isn't a band that likes to rush things, we need to take the necessary time to make this album into something we can always be proud of! But of course we have a schedule and we wont be drinking beer all day long, well, not the one recording anyways! But for now we will take one-two weeks to record the drums and after that we will follow the usual structure with guitars, bass and vocals. I will keep you posted on what is happening and hopefully we will be done with everything in the end of July, after that its time for Tore to put his magic into work!"
The Bloodstock team has announced that NWOBHM legends PRAYING MANTIS have been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2008.
Praying Mantis were formed by brothers Tino and Chris Troy in the mid ‘70s and they later became part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement which swept the UK in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, producing bands such as Saxon, Def Leppard, Diamond Head and most famously, Iron Maiden. Pursuing a direction which was more melodic and AOR-orientated than most of their homeland contemporaries, the band issued their debut album, "Time Tells No Lies" in 1981 to widespread critical acclaim. Management and line-up instability, however, quickly undermined their success and after two further singles, the band temporarily split and remained inactive until 1991’s comeback album, "Predator In Disguise," which featured ex-Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton. Since then, the band have continued to record regularly and play selected live dates and their forthcoming BOA show marks a rare opportunity to witness Praying Mantis perform on home turf.
Speaking out about playing this year's Bloodstock, Praying Mantis has issued the following statement: "We are really looking forward to playing Bloodstock this year. This is our first open air festival in the UK for a number of years but you can be sure that we will give you a set to remember. The stone faced rockers may well recall us from the crazy days of the New wave of British heavy metal, but no doubt will be surprised to hear the vibrance and vitality of the classic heavy rock sound as it is today."
"Look out Bloodstock, the Mantis is coming and will have your head off!!!!!!"
