Vocalist Chad Ackerman has been around the metalcore block, providing vocals for iconic act As I Lay Dying as well as Arnold impersonations for the governator themed band Austrian Death Machine. For the last three years Chad has been working full time with Destroy the Runner, which was in the process of recording a third full-length album and follow up to 2008's "I, Lucifer." The band then unexpectedly broke up after a period of relative quiet, leaving the fans wondering what happened and what the fate of the new album would be.
Chad took some time to discuss the breakup and the recording that had been done so far on the third album. An audibly emotional Ackerman commented, "It was just sad how everything went down. I really wish we could release that third album or even just a song or two to say goodbye to fans, like a farewell to let them know how it sounded. Everyone went through a lot of work and it would be awesome to give those fans who were there from day one something to part with." He also discussed his reactivated band Chapter 14 and the circumstances behind the band's decision not to release the new Destroy the Runner album. More...
Ape has been forced to cancel two shows and has issued the following update, without many details, as a result:
"Unfortunately APE will not be performing on June 4th at Hollywood and June 5th at the Atria. We have some internal issues to deal with. We sincerely apologize to the promoters who booked us, the bands on the bills with us, and the lovely people who support us and come to our shows. We have been scrambling like crazy to find another band to take our spot because the news was just brought to our attention last night. Things will be dealt with accordingly and there will be some new APE news in the future."
Depressive black metal band Austere recently called it quits. Here's the vague update from the band:
“It is with much sadness that today, May 19th, 2010, we announce the end of Austere. We would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported us over the years, and we hope you’ll continue to support us in our current and future endeavors.”
Tim Yatras and ‘D’ have two other bands on the go; black metal band Woods of Desolation and mellow rock band Grey Waters, while Mitchell Keepin is presumably focusing on Nazxul.
Jorn Lande (Masterplan) has offered his talents to honour the musical legacy of Ronnie James Dio, with his new album aptly entitled “Dio,” to be released on Frontiers Records on July 2nd in Europe and July 27th in the U.S.
Handpicking some lesser known tunes of the Dio era, along with some of the true classics, Jorn offers a fine collection of songs that present the music of the Man and the Artist, with a unique twist. In Jorn Lande’s own words: “Throughout the years I have had the privilege of both meeting and working with many of the musicians that have inspired me on my musical journey. Ronnie James Dio has inspired me through decades, and this man's influence continues to add colour to my creative spirit. Ever since the first time I heard his royal roar back in the 70's, I have been fascinated by this extremely talented man's creative force and dedication to music. His career has been going on for so long and includes so many great songs, that it was a challenge to decide which songs and what era to focus on. I ended up focusing on the DIO era.”
The album also includes an original song for which a videoclip, shot by Thomas Tjader (Pretty Maids, In Flames) was produced. Jorn says: “I wrote 'Song for Ronnie James' as a tribute and a personal thanks to the man who has been my mentor for more than 35 years. This great man has affected my life and career in such a way that without his presence, I would not have become the artist I am today.”
The “Song for Ronnie James” music video can be watched below.
“Dio” was mixed by Tommy Hansen, Jailhouse Studios, and the final tracklisting includes the following tracks:
Song For Ronnie James
Shame on the Night
Stand Up And Shout
Don't Talk to Strangers
Lord Of The Last Day
Lonely Is The Word / Letters From Earth (2010 version)
Kill The King*
Straight Through The Heart (live)

Chile based metal act Procession is holed up in the studio recording afull-length album titled "Destroyers of the Faith," which is set to be released later this year via Doomentia Records. Procession has now issued the following recording update:
"Approved, sealed and worshiped: BASS (and I write it with proper big characters) is done now and the raw mix with the drums has become one of the heaviest things I've ever heard in my condemned existence. Pounding every second and blowing the speakers with every arrangement, solos, etc. Claudio managed to create such an atmosphere with excellent licks and bridges full of heavy metal anger! A fucking perpetual pulse that's kicking our guts!
"Of course this part of the process couldn't exist in a boring state of sobriety and consciousness, so we have been drinking a lot of beers, listened to Manowar, Riot and Black Sabbath, went to a couple of bars, spoke loads of shit and made it happen as if it was any random weekend... loyalty! This has been the best recording sessions ever. I start with the guitars on Monday."

People turned out in droves to see the show with so many amazing bands on the bill. If they couldn’t afford to get in, they would hang outside and listen because it was just too good to miss completely. The slow, swampy, southern metal was complimented so well by the high humidity and heat of the night. Beer flowed (everywhere) and ears became numb as each of four bands took turns breaking amps. Australian rockers Airbourne have posted a music video online for "Blonde, Bad, and Beautiful," which can be viewed below. Roadrunner Records also issued the following statement about the video clip:
"Don't you just hate it when you're on the flight home from a long tour trying to get some shut-eye, but the rest of the passengers want to run around in bikini's and show off their poll-dancing prowess? This very conundrum is documented in Airbourne's brand new music video for 'Blonde, Bad, and Beautiful' off of their sophomore release, No Guts. No Glory. Join the Aussie's below on T&A Airlines as they drink, party, and most of all rock.
Amalgama has checked in with the following recording update:
"Vocals are done. I cannot express to you in more satisfied terms how good that feels to put those words down. Recording sessions can be tedious and exhaustive, testing the limits of your vocal chords and, in some cases, your patience. However, this last and final session was so rewarding and productive that I thought I would pass along my distinct satisfaction with the whole experience. Our producer and engineer John Spomer has been, and continues to be, a consummate professional and a great friend to Amalgama. Over the course of the recording of this EP, he has brought out some of the best performances from each of us individually.
"We tracked the final notes squeezed out of my throat at Four Legs Records in Orange County, NY. Nestled away in the basement floor vocal booth, we completed all we set out to accomplish, rich vocal harmonies to counterbalance some of the heavy riffage laid down just a few short weeks ago.
"Shows are coming in fast and furious as we gear back up to start playing shows around the northeast and beyond. The prospect of getting back onstage is an exciting one for all 4 of us. We'll be announcing the title of the new EP, debuting the artwork, and releasing more show information in the coming weeks. Until we see you again from the stage, stay metal."

Greek extreme metallers Rotting Christ have checked in with the following announcement about canceling their South American tour due to front man Sakis being injured:
"Rotting Christ’s frontman Sakis has been involved in an accident in which he has sustained injuries to his leg that will keep him glued to his bed for at least a month. Whatever doesn’t kill us will make us stronger!"
Anger As Art has issued the following statement about the recent death of Bitch drummer Robby Settles:
"There seemed to be a lot of losses of people who were influential in the month of May. But, one that really hit me was the passing of my friend and band mate Robby Settles. Robby was a huge influence on me and on the way I conducted myself over the years – even today. It was about the approach to your craft – to never go half assed. In 2004, I was asked to join Bitch as their bass player – a gig that I have relished. While I was not there for the glory days of the 80’s (I was in a couple of other glorious bands at the time), the impact they had on me still held true. He was a kind hearted gentle giant.
"I have played with a lot of drummers in my career. There is a certain standard that I look for – one that very few can hold. Robby certainly held it. He had a consistent solid approach that was somewhere between John Bonham and Buddy Rich. There was an extreme confidence to perform with Robby – just seeing him behind the kit in complete control while the mayhem and theatrics were going on was a great feeling. Every fill was consistent and solid, and he was a human metronome. The mark of a great drummer is when you can tell who it is simply by the way they hit their snare drum. Robby was one of those guys. His influence on Bitch is such that it bears questioning whether or not the band continues without him. Those shoes cannot be filled. More...

Texas death metal act Decrepitaph is currently streaming a new track online titled "Birth of Hideous Apparitions." The band issued the following update about the song:
"First off, go to our MySpace page to check out a brand new song from the new 'Conjuring Chaos' MCD! Take a listen to 'Birth of Hideous Apparitions' and become possessed by blasphemy once again! We are offering a cool package deal that is similar to what we offered for 'Beyond The Cursed Tombs', but with some different items we've never had before like tapes and patches! This deal is only happening from June 4th to June 19th! We had to up the price on overseas orders because we took a beating last time and we'd prefer not to Lose money on shipping all this! But still, it's a sweet deal and I'm sure our overseas fans can understand having to pay a bit more!
"We would like to let everyone know that once we get to 50 pre-orders, we will be stopping the special sale. We only have 50 shirts and patches for this, so that is as many as we can sell! Just so you know, we sold over 100 of the package deals for 'Beyond The Cursed Tombs', so please act fast if you want one because I really doubt this is going to be available for the full two weeks! Once again, we'd like to thank our small but loyal fan base for continuing to support Decrepitaph in everything we do! We will never compromise what we set out to do and we will never release something that we aren't personally proud to put our name on. More...
