Genghis Tron has announced the details of a five-volume "Board Up The House" remix series.
Beginning in August and continuing through the rest of 2008, Genghis Tron will be releasing five 12" remix records on five different record labels (Temporary Residence Ltd., Lovepump United, Relapse Records, Anticon Records, and Crucial Blast Records respectively). Each volume will be limited to 1,000, pressed on colored vinyl. "Board Up The House" cover artist, Jon Beasley, will also be providing each remix album with alternative artwork.
Each record will feature a select number of Genghis Tron songs taken from "Board Up The House," remixed by a variety of artists. Some of the participating artists include Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ulver, Dntel, Telefon Tel Aviv, Steve Moore, Jesu/Justin Broadrick, Danny Lohner, Rob Crow, Subtle, Odd Nosdam, Circle, Tim Hecker, and many more to be announced soon.
Genghis Tron commented on the series: "We are very excited to announce a series of special Genghis Tron releases which we've been scheming for quite some time now. Those who have been following us for a while know that we've always been interested in remixes, but to date we've only released a few GT remixes on a few tour-only CDs. We've wanted to do something grander and more 'official' for a long time, so we're proud to say that we've finally assembled a very massive, very official remix project. We reached out to lots of musicians who we admire and overall we've been completely overwhelmed at their willingness to participate in this massive, awesome project. More importantly, the remixes are sounding pretty mind-blowing so far...we're excited to share them with you."
Each release will be available for pre-order for roughly a month prior to its release. Temporary Residence Limited is slated to release volume one of the series in September, with pre-order beginning in July. Further information, including preview tracks, artwork, pre-order options, and more will be announced over the coming months.
Metallica is fueling the rumors online of and all-Metallica Guitar Hero Game (or at least add-on pack) with the following mysterious post to their MySpace blog entitled "METALLICA GUITAR HERO GAME. . . FACT OR FICTION?":
"An all Metallica Guitar Hero game . . . fact or fiction? Idle internet gossip, wishful thinking, or the real deal? Let's just say that perhaps, just maybe, if you've already mastered "One" on GHIII there might be a pile of 'Tallica songs in your future.
"More details later this summer . . ."
This statement was apparently in response to a feature on Gamespot on June 2, 2008 that stated:
"Guitar Hero: Metallica is no longer a case of wishful thinking or idle speculation–it's fact. When sifting through an SEC filing of Activision's over the weekend, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Edward Woo–associate of the highly visible Michael Pachter–uncovered a gem in the section where the Santa Monica, California-based publisher discussed its upcoming game slate."
Massacre Records has signed the doom metal band DAWN OF WINTER. The band will release their new album, "The Peaceful Dead," on November 14, 2008.
In the meantime, check them out on MySpace.
Debello Recordings is set to release the Zatokrev's sophomore album, "Bury The Ashes," which was originally released in 2006 by the Swiss label Get A Life! Records. The release is not firm, but late summer / early fall is being targeted.
The label comments:
"Once in a while you come across a band that speaks to you on some sublimely inexplicable level. For me, Zatokrev is that band. Something about their sound takes me back to the early to mid-nineties when extreme music was sincerely passionate and image an afterthought.
"Hailing from Basel, Switzerland, Zatokrev fuse heavy, floor-crushing grooves (ala Cult of Luna, Callisto, etc. but more coarse) with raspy dual-vocal stylings (think Scott Kelly & Steve Von Till) creating an ominous blend of good ol' fashioned skull-fracturing, down-tuned hardcore and metal."
In the meantime, you can check out some of the band's material on their MySpace page.
After some delays, Singapore thrash metal band Bhelliom's long awaited second album, "The Colossal Tragedy" has been announced for an August 2008 release. The albums was produced by Joshua (Blackisle Studio, Rudra) and mixed by Alan Douches (Hatebreed, Mastodon and Sepultura).

Black Market Activities has announcesd the addition of Sweet Cobra to its roster. The band's Hawthorne Street Records release, "Forever," will be reissued through Black Market Activities on June 24.
Sweet Cobra will play day two of "Dudefest" in Indianapolis on June 21 at Zanies Too.
"An admiration for '70s inspired groove rock and remnants of a hardcore driven past brewed the foundation for Sweet Cobra," states the press release. "The mind-boggling grooves and sludgy, down-trodden guitar riffs make avoiding toe-tapping nearly inescapable. Driven by murky grooves, Sweet Cobra incorporates the disgruntled fervor of hardcore as the finishing touch."
Sweet Cobra formed in 2002 with drummer Jason Gagovski (Suicide Note) and vocalist/bassist Botchy Vasquez (The Killer, Challenger). Guitarists Robert Lanham and Matt Arluck later joined on to complete the line up. The band made its debut on Seventh Rule Recordings with "Praise," introducing Sweet Cobra's boundary defying sound. Picking up where "Praise" left off is 2007's "Forever," originally released through Hawthorne Street Records. "Forever" offers eight songs, encompassing a similar reefer madness, with production by Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian Circles) and mixed by Sanford Parker (Minsk, Buried at Sea) at Volume Studios.
Sweet Cobra has shared the stage with Mastodon, Pelican, Converge, High on Fire, Isis, Coalesce and many, many more.
