It looks like Guns N' Roses won't be opening for the Rolling Stones after all. The Stones put their European Bigger Bang tour on hold after Keith Richards was sidelined with a head injury last month, and now the band has announced that the Nürnberg and Leipzig, Germany, shows that Axl and the gang were set to play in July have been canceled. Richards is ready to get back on the road, however, and the Stones' European tour will kick off July 11 in Italy.
Johnson Cummins of the Montreal Mirror recently conducted an interview with former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Montreal Mirror: The last time you and I spoke was right after PANTERA played in Montreal, the time Phil Anselmo made some white-supremacist comments from the stage. Your falling out with him has been well documented. Have you two buried the hatchet?
Vinnie Paul: "Nah, I will never talk to that guy again. That Montreal incident was only one of many other dumb incidents he's been a part of, and I'm sure he will continue to do. I just hope a lot of people know that he was never speaking for the band when he opened his mouth. I really have no use for him and just keep my distance — I'll just leave it at that."
Montreal Mirror: A lot of people are wondering when you are going to get back behind the drum kit again. Any plans?
Vinnie Paul: "I definitely still have a passion about it, but running this record label has been really busy and it's ended up being great therapy for me. Thanks to people like Zakk Wylde, GODSMACK, DISTURBED and Sammy Hagar — those people have really pulled through and helped me get playing again. When the right situation comes along, I'll know it, and I'll be back behind the drums again."
Montreal Mirror: You were in a dark place for a long time after Dimebag's tragic death. How did you get out of it?
Vinnie Paul: "Me and Dime did everything together from day one. When it happened, I didn't think I was really going to be able to carry on. There were several times where I would just wish I could die in my sleep. It was just that miserable. When something this tragic happens, you feel totally out of control and totally useless. You never get over it, but you have to learn to dig deep inside and learn how to cope with it. After a period of time, I could feel his energy, and I just know he wanted me to keep going, and I had to do everything I could to keep going. I also felt I had to do everything I could to make sure his legacy lives on forever. If the roles were reversed, I would be the guy in the sky pushing him on.
Montreal Mirror: Do you have any particular memories of Dimebag that stick out in your mind?
Vinnie Paul: "There really are so many. I remember the last time I saw him. We used to have a code word, which was 'Van Halen,' and that just meant to let it all hang out and have a really good time, because we both thought VAN HALEN were just one of the most kick-ass bands ever. He was warming up on his guitar before our show like he always did, and putting chapstick on his lips like he always did before a show. I just went up to him and said, 'Van Halen,' and he looked over at me and said, 'Van fucking Halen,' and we high-fived each other. I didn't know it, but a minute and a half later I would never hear from him again."
Vinnie Paul has lined up the following in-store appearances at Steve's Music locations in Canada:
Jun. 03 - Toronto, ONT - 415 Queen St. W
Jun. 05 - Ottawa, ONT - 308 Rideau St.
Jun. 06 - Montreal, QUE - 51 St-Antoine St. W

Long Island, NY hardcore band Anterrabae are currently in search of new drummer. Here's a statement from the band:
"As many of you may already know, our drummer has unexpectedly left the band to join Bayside and completely left us hanging. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have a friend temporarily fill in and play drums for us on the Boys Night Out tour that we have just finished. We are now calling on all drummers interested in trying out to join our band. We are seeking a talented drummer who will be committed and willing to put forth effort in not only learning the songs but will help in keeping the band on tour. We have been trying hard for the last year to become a full time band but due to replacing our singer and now a drummer it has been difficult. We have a new album coming out this month on June 20th and we couldn't be happier with it. We want to see it succeed. So, once again, if you are interested you MUST be able and willing to tour as much as possible and practice as much as needed so we as a band can be ready to head back out on the road. If you or anyone you know is interested or has any questions please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org. In the subject please include your name, age, and location to help us keep track.
Metal/death metal outfit Accursed Dawn has officially broken up. Formed in 2002, the band released an album with Pop Faction Records last year. Here's a statement from vocalist Brett Coverdale:
"Well, here we are, exactly 1 year since the last show we played under the Accursed Dawn moniker. To use the term "broken-up" to describe the band's current situation would be sufficient, but there's more to it than that. When things went south last March in Alabama, we all walked away from the fray a little confused, a little angry, and mostly just tired of being around each other everyday. There will certainly not be any finger pointing, no one was or is innocent. These things happen, often to the best of friends & band mates. Last May, Chuck, Will, and myself went out again with our friends J and Alex acting as fill-ins; and we all had such a blast being out with our friends in The Knife Trade again. It was a pinnacle of sorts for the remaining members. More...
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY has announced the addition of vocalist Kyle Thomas (ex- EXHORDER / FLOODGATE) to its lineup.
Thomas states: “This band is stocked with amazing musicians and most importantly quality people. It's great to be in the fold and an honor to be considered by such a great, hard working band as ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY. Above all, a big thank you to goes out to Karrie Hill for contacting me so that this could all be possible.”
“Kyle is a world class singer with an impressive résumé that includes being a founding member of seminal New Orleans metal band EXHORDER and singing with other acts including FLOODGATE, PITTS VS PREPS and TROUBLE.” comments ATP drummer Bryan Cox. Cox continues; “With the singer situation resolved, we will be headed quickly toward hitting the studio and getting it [the new record] on tape. If you are at all familiar with Kyle's work, then you know what he is going to bring to this ATP record. It will be very special and we feel honored and fortunate to be taking the next step forward as ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY with him as a part of the team.”
Guitarist Erik Larson adds “We knew right away that Kyle was the man for the singer spot when we heard him singing on some of the new material. Personally, as an EXHORDER fan, I felt a bit star struck that this guy was singing on our music. It's amazing. So we got him up to RVA for a visit / meet and greet / rehearse - ie: alcoholocaust ATP style. It went perfectly. Couldn't have asked for a better dude to join the band. I’m f*cking stoked!”
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY has been writing for the new record since last July with the music for 14 songs already completed. The writing process will be rounded out with the addition of Thomas’s vocals for what will be their sixth full-length studio album. Expect to see ATP road-testing this new material soon.

NAPALM DEATH frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"As you may have heard, we are back in Wales at Foel recording the next NAPALM album (this place is fast becoming our favourite place to record!). Really, this thing is sounding absolutely immense. If you liked 'The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code', you'll really love this one, I think. We absolutely busted our arses to get everything ready, and the rest of the band really pulled out the stops to make some great, grinding music, with Russ Russell working wonders once again to produce that NAPALM DEATH 'wall of sound'. I also have to mention Chris Fielding, the in-house engineer, who has also made a great contribution to the proceedings.
"I can give you some more titles right now (everything, including the ones you had before, are definite): 'Rabid Wolves (For Christ)', 'In Deference', 'Atheist Runt', 'When All Is Said and Done', 'Sink Fast, Let Go', and tons more. The lyrical debate is perhaps for later but, generally speaking, the album is (hopefully) a deep critique of religion and religious governance/restrictions from an atheist perspective. All jolly stuff, then. And the music: still fast and furious, raging riffs and a couple more SWANS-style tracks this time (like 'Morale'), only progressed a bit more with even more atmosphere and a more rounded melodic vocal performance (if I may say so myself).
"Anneke [van Giersbergen] from Dutch band THE GATHERING has offered up a few parts to a track, which I've yet to hear. But before some people recoil in horror about NAPALM going operatic rock or whatever, this was done for good effect and relevance to the track. It will work. It will rock. I'm sure. And we're grateful to Anneke (who is an awesome vocalist in her own right) in advance for giving it a stab.
"Studio events: Russ threw up in Chris Fiedling's car after a night on the sauce; Dave, the studio owner, decided to shovel the sewage out of the septic tank right in the middle of a vocal session (barf!) and, on a more serious note, I ran over a badger on the single-track road around here. Nothing I could do to avoid him, but mortified nevertheless.
"Oh, and Jeff Walker, ex-CARCASS, turned up in his capacity as master-ligger. We didn't let him sing this time though, and just poked fun at him really."
NAPALM DEATH's new album, tentatively tititled "Smear Campaign", is scheduled for release later in the year.
