Pennsylvania progressive thrashers, Believer, have issued the following studio update
"I just wanted to update everyone on the progress. The vox are complete, and the lead guitars are now being tracked. 'The Programmers' also have their nerdy little hands on the tunes. We are also talking with several labels about our new stuff and the progress on this front will help to determine a possible release date, so stay tuned. Once this craziness subsides, we will enter rehearsal mode and start working on the live show. I can't tell you how many shows we will play in the future, but when opportunity knocks, we will do our best to answer. We're pretty stoked about performing live and possibly getting the chance to support some of the incredible bands on the circuit today."
Crowbar guitarist Kirk Windstein has revealed that the band will be recording a new album, as previously reported, which will be released next year. The as-yet-untitled effort will coincide with their 20th anniversary.
In a post on the band's official site, Windstein writes: "Hey, rockers and rockettes. It's been a while since I made a post on here, but I feel it's time to let you know what's going on. I've got about eight songs' worth of riffs written so far and will be jamming with Tommy [Buckley, drums] and Pat [Patrick Bruders, bass] soon on these ideas. We will be putting out a new CD and tour[ing] endlessly on this thing."
"I literally want to play every country that's got electricity! Believe me, Crowbar is far from over. It will never die as long as I'm walking this Earth. So be prepared for the heaviest band in the world to destroy your senses very soon. As always, thanks to the legions of underground fans who have loyally supported us for the last 19 years. Year 20 will be the biggest yet." More...

So far we've done personal recording sessions via a lent digital 8-track from our good friend Kevin Schindel (Twelve Tribes, Mouth of the Architect), a recording session with former bassist and Basilica mastermind Ben S. Jacob, a recording session with As Eden Burns vocalist William Hesser while on tour in Houston TX, a recording session with Asrava guitarist Scott Lashay, and most recently a recording session with former Mouth of the Architect touring guitarist and guitarist of the band The Science Logic, Dan Wilburn. So far we're at about sixteen songs, and we're not quite finished."

Wired's Eliot Van Buskirk has summed up the recent Metallica review debacle and given some insight into the situation. Here's an excerpt:
"Agents of Metallica managed another internet debacle last week, caused this time by preposterous demands that journalists who attended a listening party for the upcoming Metallica album pull their subsequent reviews. Only one publication refused: The Quietus, which held out for nearly a week before complying with the request in order to protect its writer -- only to see the band ultimately overrule its managers' decision and begin linking to the formerly banned reviews.
"I spoke with The Quietus editor John Doran to get the lowdown on what, exactly, happened.
"The short version: While everything else about metal seems to be evolving, certain US-based heavy metal publicists didn't get the memo. And Metallica was as upset about the early reviews debacle as anyone else. (The band's website now includes links to the once-offending reviews.)"
