35 news articles posted on this day.
While metal bands of pretty much any sub-genre can be found all over the world, different areas have become well known for specific sounds: the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Scandinavian black metal, Bay Area thrash, and so on. But metal continues to spread and evolve across the planet, and now the various Middle Eastern nations are not only developing their own underground scene, but also inspiring a traditional Arabic sound in metal bands from other countries.
Israeli act Orphaned Land may be one of the most well known, with latest album “All Is One” nearing release through Century Media, but there are many more just waiting to be explored in our never ending quest to unearth the metal underground.
Today we’ll cover three lesser known bands either residing in or strongly influenced by the Middle East. If you dig these acts but want something more on the power or progressive side, be sure to also check out Myrath, which was covered in our look at bands getting exposure through the Prog Power USA festival.
Currently down to three members and now seeking a new keyboardist for live shows, Egyptian outfit Sand Aura released debut full-length album “Elegy of the Orient” last year. The album can be ordered directly through the band’s website or streamed in its entirety via Bandcamp.
Sand Aura covers a whole lot of ground sound-wise, working off a proto death metal base with deep and guttural vocals, adding in a folksy edge, and then also bringing out clean female vocals. Give it a listen and decide how it sounds yourself through the player below.
Canadian metal act Osyron has posted the song "Visions" online, which is the opening track off the band's debut album "Harbinger." Check out the song below, or hear the rest of the album over at the band's YouTube profile here.
In anticipation of the release of ninth studio offering, "Deceiver of the Gods," Swedish death metal tyrants Amon Amarth today unleash the second in special three-part mini documentary. Titled "Forging Mjölnir," the crisp black and white film was directed by Luke Daley and offers up intimate interviews with the band.
Check out the first and second clips in the series at this location (Facebook login required). Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen also comments on the new album:
"We decided fairly early that we should go all-in on the songwriting for this album. If we had ideas or riffs that were perhaps a little too thrash oriented or traditional-metal sounding for AMON - or that were maybe too AMON or perhaps similar to what we had done in the past - we would still keep them as long as we really liked them. A few years back we would pass on those ideas and riffs, while now we feel it was right to just go with it. I think the result is that the songs are wider, they have stronger melodies, they are better composed with lots of dynamics in them, and there are no fillers or blanks on there. Everything is as good as it can possibly be, and reflects just how driven we were to make this a great record."
"Deceiver of the Gods" was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire UK and produced, mixed, and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, "Hel." The "Deceiver of the Gods" album will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th, and Japan on June 26th. Catch the band live: More...

Norwegian black metallers Endezzma have announced a short string of headlining dates in Germany and Netherlands this June:
06.06 - The Raven, Straubing (Germany)
07.06 - The Jack, Eindhoven (Netherlands)
08.06 - J.C. de Dukdalf, Wieringerwerf (Netherlands)

Formed back in 1992 by Morten Shax under the original name of Dim Nagel, Shax changed the name to Endezzma in 2007 after recruiting Trondr Nefas and transforming the band into what it is today.
Endezzma’s first release, the “Alone” MCD, appeared five years ago, and the 2012 release of the full-length album “Erotik Nekrosis” on Agonia Records was delayed by a series of setbacks, culminating in the tragic and untimely death of Nefas earlier this year. The line-up on the album includes Morten Shax on vocals, Trondr Nefas (Urgehal, Beastcraft, Vulture Lord) and Thomas Myrvold (Vulture Lord) on guitars, Sregroth (Urgehal, Åsmegin) on bass, Jarle Uruz Byberg (Urgehal, ex-Shining) on drums, and L.F.Frøislie (Wobbler, In Lingua Mortua) on synths. The band describes the effort as "a blend between Lightslaying Rituals' (sophomore release) aggression, and the last split CD The Vision Of Fading Mankind's epic atmospheres."

Following its European release in late 2012 via Kolony Records, this week the third full-length from Australian melodic death metal act Be'lakor sees official stateside liberation through Kolony’s new North American distribution via eOne Entertainment.
To celebrate its stateside release, today This Is Not A Scene is hosting a stream of the massive "Of Breath And Bone" in its entirety. Check it out here or in the player below.
New live ventures for Be'lakor are coming together to take place sporadically throughout the remainder of 2013 in support of the new album. Stay tuned for new updates. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Of Breath And Bone takes the talents of young but motivated and exceptionally talented Melbourne, Victoria-based quintet Be'lakor to entirely new levels since previous releases. Following the band’s self-released 2007 debut The Frail Tide, Italian label Kolony Records brought the crew into the label’s family for the release of their follow-up, in the form of 2009’s Stone’s Reach album. Stone’s Reach led the band to perform at massive international festivals including Summer Breeze, in addition to European tours and solo international appearances across the continent.
"Having refined their talents even further, the band’s superb third album Of Breath And Bone further exemplifies Be'lakor’s superior metal prowess. Boasting nearly an hour of prime, harmonious death metal, Of Breath And Bone proves why the band is considered the leading melodic death metal band in all of Australia, mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street studios (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Amon Amarth)." U.K death metal act Acrania (not to be confused with the Mexican act of the same name) has signed with Unique Leader Records. The label comments:
"Unique Leader Records is proud to announce that Acrania has joined the roster. Acrania is a politically changed death metal act from London, England. Spreading a message and staying one step ahead of their peers, they aim to keep a unique but unrelentingly heavy sound.
"The band has already toured with acts around the UK/EU such as Cerebral Bore and Warpath with upcoming shows with big acts such as Thy Art is Murder, Blood Red Throne and many more. They are set to bring a blistering mix of brutality, slams and blast beats.
"Keep your eyes peeled and watch one of the quickest growing bands in the UK expand to international acknowledgement while staying true to their root sound and passion for music, debut album announcement coming soon." More...

Following the triumphs and critical acclaim that accompanied their first two albums, Over The Top (2010) and Flying Tigers (2011), White Wizzard has now returned with a brand new slab of high-speed heavy metal for this summer.
"The band's main-man, Jon Leon, spent months crafting the nine songs that make up The Devils Cut before heading to the studio with a refreshed line-up of musicians to lay down the tracks. "'All that May Bleed' shows but one facet of a quite diverse album, but we chose this song as a first glimpse into 'The Wild Hunt' because of its bombastic lunacy and white-eyed malevolence which could be said to constitute a main foundation for the album. The lyric is an invitation to sacrificial blood letting, ecstatic zealotry and human sacrifice. The salt of Satan in the wounds of Christ!"

Saille front man Dennie Grondelaers also comments: "The video of 'Blood Libel' is a somewhat liberal interpretation of the track on our latest album.
