Hypnotic Dirge Records has checked in with the following announcement about inking a deal with Obsidian Tongue:
"We are very pleased to announce the signing of the massachusetts-based black metal duo, Obsidian Tongue. HDR will be releasing their upcoming second full-length album 'A Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time' in late July!
"Cold, unwavering, primal black metal with a rich organic sound and real melodic sensibilities, Obsidian Tongue has been praised for their exceptional balance of the melodic and raw aspects of black metal, and that is certainly apparent in the new material.
"A noteworthy contribution to this musical odyssey has been made by John Haughm of the legendary dark metal outfit Agalloch - The Official Page, taking lead vocal duties for the album's title track.
"Obsidian Tongue should certainly appear to fans of Enslaved, early-Opeth, Wolves in the Throne Room, Panopticon, Falls of Rauros, and Alda among others." More...

Irish tech death outfit Dichotomy will release "Paradigms," the band's debut album, this August 14th in physical and digital formats. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"The five piece melodic tech-death metal band hailing from Dublin, Ireland draw influences from bands such as Death, Necrophagist, Gojira and Opeth and was formed in 2010 by guitarists Andy Kealy & Rats with a mind to combine the technicality of death metal with the groove and musicality of other genres. After establishing a lineup in 2010 the band began writing material under the name Dichotomy to suitably describe the contrasting styles used in the music. Summer 2012 bore the fruits of their hard labour as the band took up residence at the world renowned Westland Studios in Dublin to record 'Paradigms' with producer Alwyn Walker."
"Paradigms is about a multiple of things," comments lead guitarist Steven 'Rats' Rahaman. "The 5 of us wanted to get together and write music that we would be happy to listen to ourselves. we all individually have a varied taste in music and style so the music we created had allot of contrast so the name Dichotomy was chosen. The lyrics themselves in Paradigms create a collection of dichotomies. So in a nutshell you could say that 'Paradigms' is about the band name which is about the music."
The track listing is as follows:
02. The Sentient Oppressed
03. All - Seeing Eye
05. No Catharsis
06. Covenant Of The Forsworn
07. Alea Iacta Est
08. ...Of Strife Of Discord

Jon Oliva sat down to speak with me today to discuss his new solo record "Raise the Curtain." The audio portion of the interview can be heard below (transcribed version pending). In the interview, Oliva touched on a myriad of topics, including the upcoming Jon Oliva's Pain record, which will be "the heaviest record" he has ever done, which Oliva describes as "dark, twisted, but very musical." Tran-Siberian Orchestra is recording three albums simultaneously, including Romanov, based on a novel by producer/writer Paul O'Neill, which was at first intended to be a Savatage album after "Edge of Thorns," and then intended to be the first T.S.O. album. Of course, Savatage was touched on along with his appearance at the songwriting clinic at ProgPower USA in 2012.
With the transcription version pending, I present the audio portion here: More...
