Axl Rose spent most of the day in a Stockholm jail cell after allegedly biting a security guard in the leg at his hotel, police said.
The Guns N' Roses frontman was arrested early Tuesday after attacking and threatening the guard and causing damage to the Berns Hotel, where the alleged scuffle took place, police spokeswoman Towe Hagg said.
Rose was released from jail that evening, after he admitted to the charges and agreed to pay a fine of $5,500, Hagg said.
The 44-year-old rocker was also ordered to pay $1,360 in damages to the security guard, she said.
Catarina Oscarsson, a spokeswoman for concert organizer Ema Telstar, said the band wasn't traveling with a publicist and would not comment on the arrest. More...
Santa Cruz, California's eclectic and unclassifiable musical group Estradasphere has signed with The End Records. The band will release their fourth album - and debut for The End Records - titled "Palace of Mirrors," on September 19th, 2006.
About the signing with The End Records, bassist Tim Smolens comments: "We're very excited to be a part of The End Records' lineup. We are appreciative that The End had the vision to take on an unclassifiable act like ourselves. We've had a wonderful experience in all of our efforts with our previous label, Mimicry, and we hold them and Mr. Spruance in the highest regard."
"The new album by Estradasphere distills the elements in the group that are clearly the strongest, while trimming the fat of our previous efforts," he says of their forthcoming release. "Expect to hear Romanian gypsy death metal, heavy doses of 60's foreign cinema rock, expansive orchestrations, progressive spaghetti easterns, no lead vocals, and even an automated calliope band that can be struck up for just a quarter. The new album embodies everything that is unique and wonderful about this band."
"Although Estradasphere is known for its instrumental prowess, the band takes a stand against the poor taste that characterizes most 'progressive' music. They are clearly more concerned with the aesthetic of the sounds they use than how many gazillion notes-per-second they can play; if you're looking for Mullet Prog Rock, look somewhere else. If Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is Rock against Rock, Estradasphere is Prog against Prog."
Upon release of "Palace of Mirrors," the band will start a full-blown tour of North America.
One Dead Three Wounded drummer Mike Zahodski is leaving the band. According to the group, "Touring is not an easy life and ultimately it took its toll on Mike. This has not been an easy decision for us but, with his approval, we've decided to keep this thing going. Mike's leaving on good terms and he'll be playing with us until we can find a replacement. This has really been a huge loss for us."
Candidates for the position must ultimately reside near or in Philadelphia, PA and should be able to tour full-time. You can contact the band at ODTWbooking@gmail.com for more information.
Saosin, The Outline, and Forgive Durden will tour together in August. Here are the tour dates:

Magus Beast post a message to their fans on myspace about the loss of their drummer:
"It is with great sadness that MAGUS BEAST will be losing drummer Bob Delmini. Bob is not stepping down by choice, but has been ordered by doctors to stop playing immediately or he would stand a very good chance of going deaf. This is not something out of the blue, Bob has been battling this for some time and it has now gotten to the point of where the line has to be drawn. We lose our brother in the battle, but he will always be a member of the MAGUS BEAST family and his kick ass playing will be around as he has completed all his trackers for the new MAGUS BEAST CD.
If anyone knows anyone who could fit the bill, send them to us immediately. We have way too much on tap right now and will not stop.
We have a couple of shows coming up in late July that we fully intend on playing, so spread the word, and help the Beast find a new drummer ASAP.

Quebec-based avant-garde metallers UNEXPECT check in with the following update:
The definitive release date for In A Flesh Aquarium is now officially announced by The End Records. The album shall see the light in North America on August 22nd. We're currently busy working on the foundations of another album and practicing our new live set on the back of a moose for a better understanding of physical laws whilst playing.
On a somewhat… darker note… we are proud to announce that we'll be part of the last show ever of the legendary and controversial Norwegian black metal band: DISSECTION !
The band recently declared their own death and will offer 2 last exclusive shows in North America: Los Angeles and New York. Being old time fans of the band, it's an honour for us to participate at the New York event, on September 6th, at the B.B. King Blues club. More...
It's really amazing how the world works. I remember just months back for the very first time meeting Josh, the lead singer for Whittier, California's Al-Ce-Mi, in front of The Whisky A Go Go, sharing just a few words, and now here we all are linked up and working so closely together. I'm even prouder that this talented and dynamic punk/metal act is going to have its debut EP recorded by pretty much the best in the business in Ryan Green (Bad Religion, NOFX, Nerf Herder, The Dickies) and it seems like they are really about ready to start turning a major corner now in the music world. I think it's important for us to stay open minded, even being the diehard extreme metalers most of us are. A band like Al-Ce-Mi really does refuse to be labeled and I think that's why they are becoming more accepted in the harsher circles. I got some questions answered recently by the band's guitar player, Ray Mendez .

As previously reported, Poostew recently recorded a split CD with Japanische Kampfhörspiele for release this spring/early summer.
The release-date for Unholy's debut EP "Awaken The Sleep" has been set for August 10th and posted artwork and tracklist. The European version contains exclusive artwork and layout by Szandor Kubassa as well as the bonus track "Scales From A Leper" and comes as 6-pages Digipak.

After nine albums, countless world tours and more than a dozen years of leading their scene, FU MANCHU – perhaps the definitive Southern California hard rock band of the last decade – have signed a worldwide recording agreement with The Century Family. Their tenth, as-yet-untitled album will surface in early 2007 on Liquor and Poker Music in America and on Century Media Records in Europe. An Asian release will be confirmed in the coming months.
“FU MANCHU is one of the most influential rock groups of recent times,” says Marco Barbieri, president of The Century Family and Liquor and Poker Music’s “high roller.” “We’re proud and excited to welcome the band to our roster, and we look forward to being part of a new chapter of their impressive history.” More...

WALLS OF JERICHO have set an August 22 release date for their upcoming full-length album, "With Devils Amongst Us All". The band will be building the hype and playing new material through their appearance on the Ozzfest second stage this summer. Leading up to those dates the band has a Canadian tour with UNEARTH, ALL THAT REMAINS, THE RED CHORD and A LIFE ONCE LOST.
WALLS OF JERICHO, who deliver a fierce onslaught of metallic venom in their guitars while retaining the grit of hardcore/punk, will be the only female-fronted band on Ozzfest's second stage this year.
Regarding the upcoming album, guitarist Mike Hasty said, "[It is] the most varied music we've ever written. It's a lot more anthemic whereas our older material was more about aggression than composition." More...
MANNHAI, the Finnish group whose current lineup includes singer Pasi Koskinen (ex-AMORPHIS, AJATTARA), have uploaded their video for the song "Spaceball" at this location. The clip was directed and edited by Jari Koskinen, while the colors and graphic editing were handled by Jukka Mikander.
"Spaceball" comes off MANNHAI's latest CD, "Hellroad Caravan", which was released in continental Europe on Monday (June 26) via Dockyard 1. The CD, which was issued in Finland on February 15, was recorded at Jive Studios in Helsinki and was described by the band as "heavier and more guitar-driven" than the group's previous album, 2004's "The Exploder".
The "Spaceball" single entered Finland's national single chart at position No. 1 back in January.
The Associated Press reports: Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose was arrested in Stockholm early this morning (June 27) after allegedly biting a security guard in the leg outside his hotel, police said.
Rose, who performed in the Swedish capital last night, was being held on suspicion of attacking and threatening the guard, as well as causing damage to the Berns Hotel where the alleged scuffle took place, police spokeswoman Towe Hagg said.
Hagg said Rose was intoxicated during the confrontation, which broke out around 8 a.m., and would face questioning after he sobers up. "He was deemed too intoxicated to be questioned right away," she said. A prosecutor will then decide whether to press charges against him, Hagg said.
It was unclear what caused the fight, but Swedish tabloids said the guard tried to intervene when Rose started arguing with a woman in the hotel lobby.
Fredrik Nylen, one of the police officers who helped arrest Rose, was quoted by the daily Aftonbladet Web site as saying that the singer acted aggressively toward police and had to be "handcuffed and restrained" in the hotel. "He kept a high profile, so to speak," Nylen was quoted as saying.
Guns N' Roses played a concert in Stockholm's Globe Arena last night, and had been partying at a well-known night club before the scuffle, Aftonbladet said.

Cleveland, Ohio's CHIMAIRA have commenced the songwriting process for their follow-up to last year's "Chimaira", tentatively due in 2007 through an as-yet-undetermined label. The band's vocalist, Mark Hunter, has issued the following update via the group's MySpace profile:
"In February me, Matt [DeVries, guitar] and Rob [Arnold, guitar] wrote a few songs while we were on break and we recorded them into ProTools and emailed them to each other. We were really stoked on the songs back then but we thought that it's been so long, maybe we are all in a different headspace and those songs don't represent us anymore. So for the first day of writing as a band we decided to start with all new ideas...
"Monday Rob played a riff that was kind of left-field for us. We all went with it and spent all night working on it. It didn't seem like Matt or Andols [Herrick, drums] were into it at all...then dinner afterwords they expressed pure hatred for it...I think I hear some potential in it, but good luck getting those two to work on it again!
"So Tuesday started with a fresh mind and after we rocked the old February tapes and heard some pretty killer stuff, we decided to go back and explore the demos we worked on.
"The first track was full of riffs Matt wrote and it's pretty goddamn heavy. We all worked on it together and made it so fucking badass I can't wait to start working on it with vocals. The difference from the demo is night and day and everyone contributed to the song, which is pretty rare for us this early in the game.
"We spent Wednesday tightening up the new jam and started working on another.
This time it was one of Rob's jams from February. We wound up tightening this song up on Thursday.
"So far this song has my favorite CHIMAIRA riff ever in it. I fucking love this one. We didn't change much from the original version he wrote so it went pretty quick getting it all together. Andols and I have jokingly named this song 'Lucifer's Beard' as it is one of the most complex and tough songs for him to play.
"Friday was spent tightening up 'Lucifer's Beard' and then we started working on another one of Rob's songs from the February sessions. This one is a slower song for us, but pretty heavy. It needs some work still and it needs to be played a lot tighter before i am 100%."
CHIMAIRA's self-titled effort, which was issued last August, was the band's final release for Roadrunner Records. "Chimaira" was recorded at Spider Studios in Ohio with producer Ben Schigel. Mixing duties were handled by Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, NAPALM DEATH).
CIRCUS DIABLO, the new project featuring THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy, former THE ALMIGHTY frontman Ricky Warwick (guitar), ex-THE CULT touring bassist Billy Morrison (vocals) and former FUEL frontman Brett Scallions (bass), have announced the addition of drummer Jeremy Colson to the group's ranks. "Jeremy has just spent three years as Steve Vai's drummer, and was also in APARTMENT 26," Morrison writes on his web site. "He is a super nice guy, and a powerhouse behind the kit."
CIRCUS DIABLO recently completed work on their debut album at Drac Studios in Los Angeles. The CD includes a guest appearance by VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum.
CIRCUS DIABLO will be embarking on short tour beginning mid-August. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.
KING'S X frontman Doug Pinnick has posted the following message on the band's official MySpace profile:
"I am home from the last KING'S X tour. It was awesome to play for and meet many of you people at the shows.
"In this time that I have off from touring, I plan on writing a few tunes for KING'S X and solo stuff. The project I did with Jeff [Ament, bass] and Mike [McCready, guitar] from PEARL JAM will be finished soon! They (PEARL JAM) are on a world tour now but since I am home I am planning to do what I have to to finish my vocals, which has been the hold-up.
"I am heading back to L.A. to get in on the mixing of ZERO 1, Hal Sparks' band that I have been producing with Hal. And Will Calhoun from LIVING COLOUR and I have been talking about doing a record together also.
"I just got a memo that KING'S X will be playing the 'Rock Palast' [TV show] in Germany October 20th! This means that there will be more shows booked around that time for you guys living in Europe! And we plan on recording a new KING'S X CD with Michael Wagener in the near future also."
KING'S X's latest album, "Ogre Tones", was released in September 2005 via InsideOut Music. The band's first release for the label was produced by Michael Wagener (METALLICA, ALICE COOPER, SKID ROW).
In related KING'S X news, guitarist Ty Tabor is tentatively scheduled to release his new solo album, "Rock Garden", on September 12. You can check out two songs from the upcoming CD, "Wading In" and "Play," on their MySpace page.
In other news, Tabor has announced that he is collaborating with Wally Farkas of GALACTIC COWBOYS on a new side project, dubbed XENUPHOBE. Described as "a hypnotic soundscape that takes the listener on an hour-long journey to the innermost depths of one's mind," the group's debut album, "1.0" "goes to places only hinted on previous works such as 'In the New Age' (Tabor's highly collectable 1996 ambient release) and tracks such as 'At the End of the Day' and 'Song for Sybo' (Farkas' compositions from final two GALACTIC COWBOYS releases)," according to a press release.
KING'S X's October 20, 2006 concert at the Harmonie in Bonn, Germany will be filmed for the WDR TV program "Rockpalast" as part of their "Crossroads" series. A European tour is in the works as well.
