Satyricon has announced a self-titled album, and follow-up to 2008's "The Age of Nero," is due out this coming September 9th, 2013.
Speaking about the band's new album and return to the live fray in Europe, front man Satyr comments:
"We are back! Sorry it took so long, but we needed the time to be able pull off a record like this. Comparing this one to previous records is time wasted, it is Satyricon; constantly on the move. Naming this record 'Satyricon' was the most obvious thing in the world. We have never done a record which captures the spirit of this band in such a way. Ever.
"It will demand a lot from you as a listener, but I know you will love it. It will grow on you and that is why it will stay with you forever. We won't tour as much in the future as we used to, and that will just make every tour more special. This album and this tour is for you and ourselves. It is our moment!"
"Satyricon" was produced by Satyr and recorded in the band's native Norway, and then mixed by Adam Kasper.

Portland-based Eolian Empire will yield "Street Eagles," the new LP from local trio Honduran, in the coming weeks. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Street Eagles is a dark, dangerous trip through Rip City: a labyrinth of blasted beats, chunked-up chug-a-lugs, and warrior cries—with nary a solo in sight, all meat and bone. The recording by Fester (Rabbits, Nux Vomica, Knelt Rote) at Haywire Studios in Portland captures the band clear, heavy, and sick like never before. Experience a brutal sonic bludgeoning in all its fine detail! Riff after riff of palm-muted madness and finger-clicking bass over a volatile bed of beats both lightning fast and super slow from three twisted technicians way down in the frontline trenches. When you finally emerge from your rites of initiation --battered, bruised, beaten down -- you too will be a shitizen of Honduran.
"Be a good 'Shitizen' and get your Honduran hankering fixed up at Cvlt Nation, who confirms the track is 'great piece of audio destruction' right here. The shit gets real on July 30th when the Eolian deviants drop that sonofabitch via 180-gram LP and digital."
The album's track listing is:
1. Never Forget (Ben Bratt)
3. Pregnant Skeletons
4. Burnt Vestry
6. The Corpse
8. Hiding from the Idiots
9. First World Problems
10. Street Eagles
11. Stampeded by Fear More...

In September/October 2013 Alcest will take a break from working on an upcoming fourth album to embark on a double-headlining USA and Canada tour with the masters of atmospheric rock, Anathema. This is what Alcest's Neige has to say about the tour:
"We feel honored to tour with Anathema and Mamiffer. Since years Anathema is making this unique mix of prog and emotional rock. Mamiffer is the post-rock/experimental band of Faith Coloccia and Aaron Turner, talented Isis founding member and founder of Hydra Head Records. Sounds like a diverse and attractive billing! And this will also be the opportunity for us to play a few songs from our next album. See you in a few months!" More...

"We recently released a lyric music video for this song, so this video shows the flip-side of that, with me playing the grooving, technically challenging, and straight up rocking guitar parts found in this track. Not to mention using a beautiful piece of new gear in the Sabre Guitars Ghost HB-1. Check it out!"
Aeon Zen's new album "Enigma" was released January 22nd, 2013 on Nightmare Records, distributed via Sony / RED.
Blackout has released a three-track album sampler, which can be heard below or over at Bandcamp. The band's publicist also issued the following press release:
"With food, beer and America at the forefront, it only makes sense guitar player/vocalist Christian Gordy and drummer Taryn Waldman would meet at Gordy's 2011 July 4th cookout in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Waldman, a former Hooter's waitress turned big time commercial film editor, and Gordy, a one-legged bartender/artist/BBQ enthusiast were an oddball couple for NY's heavily-styled metal scene.
"The duo began rapidly banging out monolithic snail-paced riffs that could party as much as they could crush. Blackout — referring to blackout drunk, the absence of light, or a mobster hit on an entire family — was the only appropriate title for the band.
"With a three-song demo recorded at the now defunct Headgear Studios in the bag, Waldman set out on the task of stalking and acquiring drum wizard Justin Sherrel for the bass position. The sound filled out and quickly grew like Chuck Berry's mustache. Now with Sherrel's nitty-gritty, rhythm-heavy mud beneath an electrical tide of riffs and explosions, the mighty river of sludge was primed to lurch forward. More...

U.S. black metal act Woe has checked in with the following announcement about postpone upcoming European shows:
"We are extremely sorry to say that our European tour had been postponed. We are already working on a new trip to make up for this. Our apologies to everyone involved. In the meantime, we will take advantage of the opening in our schedule to do another 10 days in the US. Dates will be announced soon."
The shows were to be in support of latest full-length album "Withdrawal." You can read our review of the album right here.
Eric Horner from Throne of Malediction has checked in with the following announcement about a lineup change:
"As you may have heard, there are some changes for Throne of Malediction. Jessica H is now stepping down as guitarist and co-vocalist.
"It is due to personal issues and Throne of Malediction has benefited from her contributions over the years, so wish her the best. We will release one more single song very soon with her on vocals.
"As mainly a two person project, with one now gone, it will be different, but still pretty much the same musical vision and sound. So no band name change.
"On another note, the 3rd album is in progress as of now, with the 2nd on sale and doing OK. Also have a live lineup being formed now to get to doing live shows within the year, as planned.
"Thank you for your support and stay tuned for the next chapter... Ugh!!!"
Throne of Malediction's latest full-length album was "Out of Darkness, Comes Light." Check out our review right here.

Anubis Gate is currently working on the follow-up to the band's previous self-titled album (check out our review right here). The band has now posted the following recording update:
"Day one of drum recording. New drummer Morten Gade Sørensen is simply amazing. On the first day there is always a lot of time used for setting up, tuning the drums, setting up mikes etc. etc. and yet he nailed two of the long tracks and the two short ones, injecting a great dose of vitality into the music. And Jacob Hansens ears are as sharp as ever with great suggestions to both parts and sounds. And as ever his drum sound is fantastic."
Further details on the new release will be forthcoming. The album is expected to drop in late 2013 through Nightmare Records.
Having begun recording a fourth full-length album in March of this year, dark metal act Foscor has issued an update on the progress of the coming release, as well as a news of other projects that the members are involved in.

The album is being released on CD and vinyl formats to stores and distros worldwide and can be purchased directly through the label and streamed over at Dark Descent's bandcamp page.
Hailing from Texas, Imprecation has been firmly entrenched in death metal's underground since its inception in 1991. The early 90s saw the band release a couple of acclaimed demos and an EP (Drowned Records), followed by a compilation of material in 1995 titled "Theurgia Goetia Summa" on Repulse Records (later reissued several times). Not long after this essential death metal compilation, the band went on hiatus until its resurrection in 2009. More...

It’s the age old argument, right? Mainstream ignores and/or shuns metal (unless Metallica is present) and at the same time many in the metal community would rather keep it that way. If metal is accepted by the mainstream with open arms we would all suddenly need to find another form of music to listen to, I guess.
I do not believe that metal accepted by the mainstream is entirely horrendous, since greater acceptance would recognize so many bands/musicians that deserve just as much as pop counterparts and open the doors for more releases and more tours, especially here in the U.S. It would also further validate those of us who spend our lifetimes promoting the scene. “Mainstreaming of metal” does not necessarily have to mean that the music turns commercial.
However, I live under no delusions that broad sweeping acceptance as a form of relevant musical art will ever come true, and I’ve accepted the situation for what it is. With that said, it still pisses me off when the two clash with the obvious tired and repetitious reactions. Case in point: the video of little six year old Aaralyn, who appeared on the NBC talent show “America’s Got Talent,” with her brother Izzy to perform the original song “Zombie Skin.” Check it out here:
On September 3rd, Shadow Kingdom Records will release "The Innocent, The Forsaken, The Guilty" - a collection of rare recordings from enigmatic psychedelic metallers The Mezmerist. The Shadow Kingdom reissue will feature a CD compiled of the band's two EPs, recorded in 1983 and 1985 respectively, and a DVD detailing the history of The Mezmerist.
The Mezmerist is one of the most mysterious US Metal acts of all time. Few even know who The Mezmerist is, and to find an original LP is a chore as the band held on to most of the copies pressed. Originally issued in 1985 and limited to 500 copies, today those copies have gone for extremely high prices on eBay. Pre-orders are available over at the Shadow Kingdom webstore.
The Shadow Kingdom records reissue marks the first time anyone who knew about this lost gem made contact with the band. SKR was fortunate in finding the mastermind behind the band - Thomas Mezmercardo. After tracking Mezmercardo down, an additional five years was spent on this release to ensure it was done properly and with all of the parties and work involved.
Speaking of all parties involved, one of the most interesting things about this release is that Bill Ward did in fact play drums on the four tracks that make up the 1983 EP. The circumstances surrounding the events back then are somewhat of a mystery, even to this day. Mezmercardo sits down and tells the story of how all of this came together on the DVD portion of the release.
"The Innocent, The Forsaken, The Guilty" is not just any old over-hyped cult release that some of these other labels are feeding you. This is the definition of the perfect lost gem in 80's heavy metal history and by far one of the best cult classic metal albums you'll ever hear. Psychedelic heavy metal is the most apt way describe this band that offers shades of Led Zeppelin, Cirith Ungol, and Mercyful Fate. Below is an upload from the original debut EP. More...
Chase Manhattan and Matt Price of Los Angeles-based stoner/doom outfit Behold! The Monolith have issued the following statement on the tragic loss of singer/bassist Kevin McDade:

Our hearts and thoughts go out to his parents, family and girlfriend. Thanks for the time we had and the music we made together. We will, and already do, miss you terribly."
Kevin McDade died as a result of an auto accident on Friday, June 21st. He was 29 years old. More...
Finland's Turisas is streaming the new track "For Your Own Good." The song appears on the new album "Turisas2013," which is scheduled for release on August 26th (EU), September 2nd (UK) and September 3rd (North America) via Century Media Records.
Vocalist Mathias Nygård commented on the song: “‘Turisas2013’ is a very diverse album: it has some of the heaviest and fastest tracks that we’ve ever done, but ‘For Your Own Good’ comes more from the lighter end. It’s a very catchy song and we hope you’ll enjoy the track that we picked to give you a very first taste of the many flavours to come.”

Colorado psychedelic doom act The Flight Of Sleipnir has signed on with Napalm Records. The band recently issued the band's fourth release "Saga" this past February via Eyes Like Snow Records. The first release through Napalm is targeted for early 2014.
The announcement from the label reads: "Napalm Records/Spinning Goblin Productions is extremely proud to announce the world wide signing of The Flight Of Sleipnir. The Psychedelic Doom Masters from Colorado caught our attention because of their musical genius in combining aspects of Doom/Psychedelic with Folk and Progressive elements and magically package them with simply the most beautiful folk/pagan inspired album artworks ever. Here at Napalm we can truly say that we have been fan of The Flight Of Sleipnir for many years and are absolutely euphoric to have this brilliant band join our troops of doom!"
Multi-musician and vocalist Cllay Cushman commented: "The Flight Of Sleipnir is pleased to announce our signing with Napalm Records/Spinning Goblin Productions. We are excited at the opportunity to work with such a reputable label and are honored to gain the support that only a label like Napalm can provide. As fans of several Napalm artists for many years, it is also an honor to be included among so many diverse and influential artists. We have had very positive experiences with our previous label, Eyes Like Snow, but when Napalm showed their interest in TFOS we knew it was time to move on to achieve some of the many goals we have. We are hard at work on our next album which is slotted for an early 2014 worldwide release through Napalm."
