Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE have cancelled the following dates:
Jun. 29 - Spain, Bilbao (w/ METALLICA)
Jun. 30 - Germany, Freiburg, MTV Campus Invasion
Jul. 03 - UK, London Islington Academy
Jul. 05 - Austria, Vienna (w/ METALLICA)
Jul. 08 - UK, London Wembley Arena (w/ METALLICA)
Commented the band: "Frontman/lead singer Matt Tuck was due to have a tonsillectomy mid-July but, due to unforeseen complications, the operation had to be brought forward at the last minute at the advice of Matt's doctor. Matt is recovering well but has been ordered not to sing for a minimum four-week period, which means that the band have no choice but not to play the shows listed above.
"The band are hugely disappointed but will be going back into the studio as soon as Matt's health is back to 100% to put the finishing touches to the highly anticipated follow up album to 'The Poison', due out late 2007."
Matt Tuck was unable to speak but wrote from his bed: "If I'd known my tonsils were going to cause me to miss shows like these I'd have fucking ripped them out myself long ago. I am totally gutted at not being able to play these shows and the only consolation the boys and I can take from it is that we are now fully focused on the album and we'll be back in the studio as soon as the doctors say I can sing again. I truly can't wait for you fuckers to hear it!"
More information has been revealed about the upcoming re-release of SLAYER's "Christ Illusion" album, due on July 24. According to MTV.com, the limited-edition set will contain the previously unreleased cut "The Final Six", as well as an alternate version of "Black Serenade". The reissue marks the band's first collaboration with new label home Columbia Records; SLAYER left Warner Bros. when longtime producer Rick Rubin jumped ship to head Columbia back in May.
"This version of 'Black Serenade' is the version [guitarist] Jeff [Hanneman] originally wrote, and during the miscommunications of recording, it came out the way it did," guitarist Kerry King told MTV.com. "I like the original version better. And 'The Final Six' was a song that just wasn't finished in time for the record, because [frontman] Tom [Araya] had to head home for [gall-bladder] surgery."
"The Final Six", said King, "isn't going to sound out of place, because it was written for "Christ Illusion". So, it's just another song off of that album, and it's not separate at all. The track was recorded by the time "Christ Illusion" came out — we just had to have Tom sing on it."
The reissue will also boast a bonus DVD called "Slayer on Tour '07". It will include the "Eyes of the Insane" video; a live rendition of the band's 1988 LP track "South of Heaven" that was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, on last year's "Unholy Alliance" run; and a behind-the-scenes, five-minute documentary-style montage of footage shot earlier this year when the band performed in Florida and Australia.
A shadowy anti-religious group with links to heavy metal music has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on Christian sites in Brittany in northwest France, police said Thursday.
Members of the group, which calls itself "True Armorik Black Metal", or TABM, describe themselves as "extremist and anti-ecclesiastical" in a letter sent to local newspaper the Telegramme, which published excerpts on Thursday.
"We are going to strike again, again and again," warned the letter, in which the group's acronym is scrawled in blood-red letters over the image of an inverted Christian cross.
Police, who are hunting a group of Satanists they believe responsible for the attacks, said they were taking the letter seriously and had sent it for analysis by a specialised unit.
Graffiti of the letters ABM was found at nine Christian sites desecrated in recent weeks. Police believe the letters signify Aryan Black Metal, a Satanist movement which has links to heavy metal music, paganism and far-right politics.
Last weekend, the 16th-century Chapel of the Cross at Loqueffret near the remote tip of Brittany was gutted in a blaze, which left just the four walls standing (Photo#1, Photo#2). The doors of the chapel were forced open, and several original polychrome statues were destroyed.
Eight other Christian shrines — six roadside granite crosses and two fountains — were torn down or smashed last month in an area of the Finistere department near the popular holiday resorts of Benodet and Concarneau.
