Entitled "Act I," the release will be unleashed to North American fans on September 4th, 2012 in 2-CD, 2-DVD and Blu-Ray format.

"With an elaborate track listing of solo tunes, Nightwish classics and various covers including a rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 'The Phantom Of The Opera,' Gary Moore’s 'Over The Hills and Far Away,' Whitesnake’s 'Still Of The Night' and a variety of video extras, Act I provides a full-fledged bill of fare to every diehard TARJA fan."

Victory Records welcomes dynamic South Wales, UK metal/hardcore outfit Continents to its roster. An announcement video has been posted online and can be viewed below. Kerrang magazine describes Continents sound as, “Energy-fueled epic-core with lots of aggression, a healthy blend of raw shouts and low end growls and foot stomping hooks.”
“We've always tried to put our own passion for our music before external influence, the most important thing for us is that we enjoy the music we play, and if other people enjoy it too then that's awesome,” said vocalist, Philip Cross. “We like to mix elements of our favorite styles and influences, and then put our own perspective on things to see where it takes us.”
Victory Records also commented:
"Formed in 2010, Continents quickly established themselves within the UK music scene. They are five self-proclaimed 'lads with a party attitude who love getting groups of people into a room who share their passion for music.' In concert, this UK bunch throws a blistering barrage of songs and energy at the crowd which is evident in their first music video from the band’s self-released single 'Trials;' which received over 10,000 views on YouTube, in just the first few days. Thanks to 'Trials,' in November the band was voted as a favorite YouTube UK Metal Act and was featured on the YouTube home page.
"Continents will be killing it on stage Saturday, June 30, at Leeds University for Europe's biggest indoor metal/hardcore festival, Ghostfest 2012. They will be joining the likes of Emmure, The Black Dahlia Murder, Comeback Kid, Defeater, and many more! Watch for the announcement of Continents debut album and stay tuned for updates!" More...
Bay Area, CA's Loma Prieta is about to embark upon a Summer European tour, which will take the band all over Germany, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Rebuplic over the course of the next month. Dates are available below.
Loma Prieta is on tour in support of the band's debut album for Deathwish, "I.V." The following press release was also issued:
"Formed in 2005, Loma Prieta have been a mainstay of the Bay Area hardcore community for more than half a decade. In that time they have released four 12 inch records and two 7 inch records mostly on their own label, Discos Huelga. They have also toured the U.S., Japan, Canada, and Mexico numerous times, all while members play in several other hardcore bands (Punch, Beau Navire, Us Haunted Bodies). While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the rich tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling, each Loma Prieta record is substantially different from the last. Nonetheless, Loma Prieta have managed to forge a distinctive form of expression that is entirely their own." More...
Multi-instrumentalist Arjen Lucassen has posted a new video for the track "Pink Beatles in a Purple Zeppelin," taken from his recently released concept solo album, "Lost In The New Real." The video was mainly shot where Arjen grew up, near the sea in Holland. Check out the video clip below.
In regards to the video, Arjen comments: "It's a very 'Dutch' clip, windmills and all! So you could say this clip goes back to my roots, also musically. It features many visual links (at least 10!) to the bands and albums that I grew up listening to. Peace, man!" More...
Ambient act Gauchiste has released a new music video for the song "Viols," which can be viewed below. The song comes from the self-titled Gauchiste album released earlier this year. "Viols" was shot by Tracy Keats Wilson and Kenneth Close at Little Black Cloud Records. Tracy commented:
"Our goal was to create something that wasn't filled with stereotypical images typically associated with heavy music. The idea was to study our surroundings and discover the weight, beauty, and unearth darkness in surprising places like delicate orchidaceae that upon closer investigation look monstrous and erotic or a simple swinging rope curled accidentally like a noose."
Experimental, dark ambient / noise trio Locrian is set to release the band's most recent recording (previously available only on vinyl) "The Clearing" as a 2CD/Digital deluxe album with a bonus disc re-titled as "The Clearing/The Final Epoch" via Relapse Records.
The second disc contains almost an hour of previously unreleased material containing the band’s signature sound of ominous crescendos mixed with powerful atmospherics and pulverizing tension. This deluxe reissue, housed in a mini “tip-on” gatefold package will see an August 14th release and is available for pre-order now at this location.
Locrian, located in Chicago, IL and Baltimore, MD has released over 20 recordings on an eclectic array of labels in the band's relatively short but prolific career, including a recent split with label-mates Horseback. Additionally, the group plans to enter the studio later this year for a full-length Relapse debut.
Dark Funeral, which signed on with Century Media Records last month, will be returning Australia to terrorize stages this November.
The currently announced dates for the tour, presented by Metropolis Touring and Ragged Company, are as follows:
Thursday November 22nd - Brisbane The Hi Fi
Friday November 23rd - Sydney Factory Theatre
Saturday November 24th - Melbourne Corner Hotel
The Infinite Staircase released debut album, "The Road Less Taken," in March of 2009, and the group is now working on a follow-up release. After Oblivion is the last band that Metal On Metal Records has signed for a 2012 release and the first death metal act to join this old school metal label's roster. Jowita Kaminska-Peruzzi, the label owner, states:
"We are not much into death metal. We like some classic and even contemporary bands, but really very few, so obviously we are extremely picky as fans when it comes to this genre. And a death metal band has to completely blow us away to pique our interest as the label. Such was the case with After Oblivion - when they contacted us, we listened to the three songs from their 2011 EP 'Vultures,' then listened again... and again. We could (and did) listen to them on a loop for hours... Why? 'Cause we love Death and After Oblivion is so uncannily similar to Chuck's band, in particular their '90s era (when you hear those vocals, you may think it's Chuck himself!), we could only succumb to this new amazing band. U.K. act Surfaces has issued the following announcement about deciding to call it a day:
"Hello guys! This is an announcement to say that after the show that we are playing on Saturday in Brighton, Surfaces will no longer be continuing as a band.
"We all greatly appreciate all of the help and support that we've received from our friends, everyone who's been involved with putting us on at shows or helped us out in any way over the last few years! Thank you to anyone who has ever come to see us live, bought merch or just enjoyed listening to our music.
"We all had a great time being in this band together and as previously mentioned will be playing our last show this Saturday at The Hydrant in Brighton. We would love it if some of you guys came down to see us and hang out! Loads of awesome bands playing so should be a sweet show! Plus we'll be selling off all of our merch super cheap! Thanks!"

Metallica's Kirk Hammett announced today that he will publish his first book, "Too Much Horror Business - The Kirk Hammett Collection," this October via Abrams Image. Orchid's Curse has announced the band will be heading into CodaPop Recording Studios in Halifax on June 22nd to record the follow up to the 2010 sophomore album "Voices: The Tales of Broken Men."
Along with the help of producer Jason Vautour, the band will record 11 new songs for the yet to be titled album. In addition to working alongside a producer for the first time, Orchid's Curse has enlisted the help of Shaun Thingvold (Darkest Hour, Lamb of God, Strapping Young Lad) to mix and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, Glass Casket, He Is Legend) to master the new release.
The band issued the following statement: "We couldn't be more excited to hit the studio! After completing a few weeks of pre-production we are happy to say we have crafted not only our most vicious but also our most diverse album to date. When we released Voices in 2010 we promised we wouldn't make you wait 4 more years for the next one and we are happy to be delivering on our end of the promise."
The album is tentatively scheduled to be released in Fall 2012 on Diminished Fifth Records. More...

Vancouver, BC's melting pot metallers Tribune have posted a video recap of their six week North American "Dark Arts Tour" that saw the band travel and perform across the USA and Canada in support of new album "Elder Lore/The Dark Arts." Check out the video clip below.
Tribune vocalist Bryan Baker also stated in a blog posting on the band's website: " ...it was a total blast, and we already can’t wait to tour the States and Canada again (it sure as hell beats working a day job)! Having said that, we in Tribune need a bit of a rest from the road, some time to visit with our friends and families, and also time to finish writing the next album. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ll be idle. No, we’ll be playing an after-party show at Iron Roads Studio June 23rd, then playing another Courtenay show at The Mex June 29th, then Brian Else’s birthday bash, again at Iron Roads, on July 14th."
Bay area thrash legends Testament revealed to Greek webzine Rock Overdose (see article here) that the band will be filming a video for the new song "Native Blood." The song appears on the forthcoming LP "Dark Roots of Earth," which is scheduled for release on July 27th, 2012 (Europe) and July 31st, 2012 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records. Pre-orders are available now at this location.
Guitarist Eric Peterson revealed the details: "We are working on a video right now… actually we start tomorrow. It’s gonna be for the song 'Native Blood.' We’re gonna film it in an Indian reservation. It’s about people who were oppressed in life. We haven’t done one (video) in a while, so we’re kind of excited about that."
In the interview, Peterson elaborated on the injury to drummer Paul Bostaph that led to his departure last December:
"Paul Bostaph got injured about a year and a half ago and he was ordered by his doctor to stop playing for a while and it just kept taking a lot of time. We needed to get started for the record and Paul told us to start without him, but it kept going further and further and we ended getting a drummer for the record. We found Gene Hoglan who played with us in the 'Demonic' album."
The Gates Of Slumber has announced that former drummer "Iron" Bob Fouts will sit behind the kit on the band's next U.S. tour. The band has parted amicably with J. Clyde Paradis, who recorded and toured behind last year's "The Wretch" (Rise Above Records). Fouts drummed for the band on previous releases "Conqueror" (2008) and "Hymns of Blood and Thunder" (2009), which both landed in Decibel Magazine's "Best Albums of the Year" lists.
Band founder Karl Simon (guitar / vocals) and longtime comrade-at-arms Jason McCash (bass / backing vocals) invited Fouts to fill-in for their upcoming tour with Hammers of Misfortune, which kicks off July 18th in Chicago. "We had a lot of good times together with Cool Clyde and created a massive album that will last the ages however now we are just personally headed in different directions," said Simon in a statement.
"I'm really stoked to hit the road again with our long time friend and former member Bob Fouts and I am really looking forward to see what tomorrow may bring!" added McCash.
Tech-death/groove metal outfit Common Dead is slowly but surely morphing from solo effort to full ensemble. Originally the lone wolf project of guitarist and vocalist Andrew Laurenson (who performed all instruments on the band's earliest three albums), Common Dead now includes the talents of drummer Bruno Allemand. Allemand is a former collaborator with ex-Cryptopsy's Alex Auburn and spent many years in the Montreal-based Black Sabbath tribute group, War Pigs.
The band is in the process of inducting additional members and honing material for shows, which should include tracks from Common Dead's solo era alongside new material from the group yet to be recorded.
In addition to this development, a new site has launched for the band, featuring lyric sheets, audio, music videos, merch links, and more to come. Visit this location to check it out.
Common Dead released its flagship effort "Diatribe" (reviewed here) in February 2012, the last solo work before the induction of new members.
Wolfchant has issued the following announcement about canceling the band's previously scheduled appearance at the Kilkim Zaibu Festival:
"Dear friends and fans of Wolfchant,
"Unfortunately we have bad news for you! Because of health problems (accident of our drummer Norgahd and Lead Guitarist Skaahl) we have to cancel the Kilkim Zaibu Festival in Lithuania.
"We are very sorry about this situation and hope that you can understand our decision. We hope that we can make up the gig at a later time and wish you all the best. Best Regards."

German progressive/technical metal titans Obscura recently wrapped up a tour of Japan. The band has just released live footage from one of the shows that was filmed in Tokyo. The entire set was filmed and is available for viewing below. The setlist from the show was:
Flesh and the Power it holds (Death cover)
Frontman Steffen Kummerer spoke about the Japanese tour and Tokyo show: "With the recent trip to Japan the Omnivium world tour is almost finished. It was a pleasure to meet our fans from the land of the rising sun again, thank you for your never ending support! We would like to share our Tokyo concert with all of you, so feel free to see the fan filmed material below."
Warriors of Metal, Inc. has announced that the Kansas City, Missouri progressive power metal band Ancient Creation has had to cancel its appearance that this year's Warriors Of Metal Fest V Open Air. According to lead vocalist Steve Bentley, complications arising from the pregnancy of lead guitarist Peter Nisenkier's wife, who needs to be induced on June 29th (the first day of the festival), will effectively take the band out of the action with one of its most important members needing to be home.
Bentley states: "Peter is pretty broken about having to cancel. We deeply apoligize and are saddened because we were really looking forward to [playing at the Warriors Of Metal Fest V Open Air] but [at this point] we have no choice." We at WOM, Inc. wish Peter and his wife well and hope there are no undue compilations for the birth of their child.
Replacing Ancient Creation will be the melodic heavy metal band Brazen Angel from Atlanta, Georgia. Brazen Angel fully impressed the Warriors Of Metal Fest organizers with its great music and high energy performance at last year's Pathfinder Metalfest III and were invited to get on our event's waiting list or as a prospective band for the WOM Fest VI Open Air in 2013. They had already arranged a mini-tour worth of performances on their way to Ohio to attend our festival this year as a band to support our efforts, and so they made this selection an easy one for us. "Ghostmaker," the third full-length from Philly's adrenalized death/thrash quartet Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, is out now in North America via Candlelight Records.
The mob at MetalSucks, who are obviously big fans of the hard-partying Rumpelstiltskin Grinder ethos, are streaming all twelve neck-wrecking tracks from "Ghostmaker" for a limited time. Get blasted right here. The band's publicist also commented on the album:
"With more than forty-five minutes of nonstop soul-crushing thunder, Ghostmaker shows the outfit at their most antagonistic yet, while also showcasing the most talented musical prowess from RSG to date.
"Now in their tenth year as a unit, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder currently contains members of Absu, Woe, Azure Emote, Ashencult, Fucked Forever, Total Fucking Destruction, Smoker & the Rollers and more. 'Ghostmaker' was produced by the members of the band and bears cover art by gore artist Mike Hrubovcak (Sinister, Grave, Hate Eternal, Cattle Decapitation, etc.) as with several of the band's previous releases."
According to Billboard.com (full article at this location), Queensrÿche and singer Geoff Tate have parted company over "creative differences." Crimson Glory vocalist Todd La Torre was tapped to replace Tate, as prior to this report the remaining band members went on to form Rising West with the vocalist.
Rumors have been circulating about trouble in the Seattle progressive metal band's camp including the band's recent performances in Brazil and culminating with Geoff Tate's statements to the crowd at Rocklahoma 2012.
In an excerpt from the exclusive story with Billboard, drummer Scott Rockenfield was quoted as saying:
"Over the past few months, there have been growing creative differences within Queensryche. We want our fans to know that we hoped to find a common resolution, but in the end parting ways with Geoff was the best way for everyone to move forward in a positive direction. We wish him the best of luck with all of his future endeavors. We can't wait to bring Queensryche to our fans with Todd behind the microphone."
Billboard could not get a comment from Tate through his agent Jeff Albright of the Albright Entertainment Group prior to running its story.
La Torre made it clear that he has no intentions on leaving Florida act Crimson Glory, stating on his Facebook page: "I am not a 'former member' of Crimson Glory. Both bands are fully aware of my involvement. Crimson Glory is still alive and well, and we are continuing to write material for the new record. Queensryche enters a new chapter, buckle up." More...

Finnish symphonic metal band Stratovarius named Status Minor/Random Eyes/Solution .45 drummer Rolf Pilve as the band's new drummer following the departure of Jörg Michael. The official announcement on the bands official website reads:
"Last year Jörg Michael announced his departure from Stratovarius after sixteen years of incredible drumming, countless tours and nine studio albums. Jörg played his final tour with the band in 2011. One of the last concerts in Finland was recorded, and will be released as a Live DVD/Bluray on June 27. It is titled 'Under Flaming Winter Skies – Live In Tampere.' Check out a one-song sample of the song “Black Diamond” here.
"The DVD is the first live DVD the band has ever released, and sadly it is the final for Jörg Michael. It includes two hours of a very powerful live show, plus a 30 minute long documentary about the band with interviews with all band members. It is a must-have for all Stratovarius fans with lots of inside information, very honest interviews, and the once in a lifetime departure of an outstanding member and friend: Jörg Michael. Even though he will still be working for the band on the management and agency side, it was a dramatic and nostalgic moment when he finally left the stage.
"As a bonus track, the Bluray disc contains a 5.1 mix of the 18 minute song “Elysium” from the last studio album with the same name.
"It was not easy to find a new drummer who is not only an excellent musician and a cool guy, but also courageous enough trying to fill the big hole Jörg Michael has left.
"24 years old Rolf Pilve from Finland is that courageous and gifted drummer."
Singer Timo Kotipelto had the following comments: "Although the competition was fierce, Rolf was clearly the best one of the bunch. His precise playing, sureness and right attitude was there right away. He has an astonishing technique and to top that of he has a very musical way of playing, so he can bring something of his own into our old songs as well. Rolf has played a variety of different styles of metal, so fast tempos or more progressive parts will not be a problem. Whatever songs we might compose in the future – I have no doubt that he will be able to play them. He had to be a really good player, but also a nice guy. We were not looking for a Jörg Michael clone."
Pilve also commented: "I had prepared for the audition thoroughly, learning all the songs we agreed on, with the live-endings and everything. In addition to that I had also learned some extra songs just to be safe. Playing with the guys was excellent, and already the next day after the audition I got to hear that I had been the best one of the drummers they had auditioned. What followed was yet another audition where we would play more casually and jam."
One of Pilve's other bands Status Minor had the following comment on its Facebook page: "Status Minor's drummer Rolf Pilve is also the new Stratovarius drummer!!! Really big thing for Status Minor too!!!"
Rolf Pilve will join Stratovarius for the first time on stage at Tavastia, Helsinki, Finland on July 11, 2012. The band also confirmed the following live dates: More...
