We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
28 news articles posted on this day.
Doomed, the band created by German multi-instrumentalist Pierre Laube, has been streaming three songs from its recent album "The Ancient Path" over on MySpace. The Zwickau native has also posted a new song titled "Downward," which will be on a future release titled "In My Own Abyss," over on Bandcamp. You can stream that song below in the player.
Candlemass has issued the following statement:
"We are sorry to inform you that Robert Lowe is no longer the singer for CANDLEMASS. It has been a very difficult decision for the band and has mainly to do with the quality of the live performances.
"For the upcoming shows, Robert will be replaced with Mats Levén [YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, THERION, TREAT, ADAGIO, AT VANCE, KRUX], longtime friend of the band. We are convinced this will work out just great.
"The band is currently rehearsing new and old songs with Mats and we know that nobody attending the gigs at Debaser Slussen, Metaltown, Borås or Southern Discomfort will be disappointed.
"Bring you earplugs….it will be hard, massive and loud!
"Keyboard player Per Wiberg [OPETH, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS] is also joining CANDLEMASS onstage for the live shows."
This concludes Lowe's five-year run with Candlemass, whose ranks he joined in 2007. He performed on the band's three most recent studio albums: "King Of The Grey Islands" (2007), "Death Magic Doom" (2009) and "Psalms For The Dead" (2012).
"Psalms For The Dead," Candlemass' planned swan song, is set for release on June 8 via Napalm Records. Our review can be read here. The band will celebrate the new album with a June 5 performance at Debaser Slussen in Stockholm, Sweden.
Fear Factory releases its eighth studio album “The Industrialist” this week—June 5th, 2012. Although containing different cast members from the days of their defining record “Demanufacture,” “The Industrialist” is what singer Burton C. Bell describes as “Demanufacture”-plus.
As most of our readers know, Gene Hoglan is one of the most sought after drummers in metal. The list of bands he’s drummed with is longer than most paragraphs in this article. It’s for this very reason that Hoglan couldn’t make it out on Fear Factory’s first North American tour promoting “The Industrialist.” Malignancy’s Mike Heller filled in his vacancy. Matt DeVries replaced Byron Stroud as the group’s bassist, which should come as a surprise to Chimaira fans who know him as their guitarist.
Metal Underground.com caught up with Bell on the first stop of the “Noise in the Machine” tour with Shadows Fall in San Antonio. Bell gave us the scoop on the new record, lineup changes (he declined commenting on his relationship with ex-drummer Raymond Herrera) and sharing a bus with Shadows Fall. More...
Obscure Australian death metal band Ocean Of Zero released a couple of demos in 2010 and 2011. Those two demos, "The Wake" and "Shun the Light," are being reissued in the form of an album titled "Where Sickness Prevails" on Obscure Domain/Sevared Records. The track "Crawling Bastard" from the album has been streaming as an upload and is featured below. Another track, "Realm of the Deceased," is also making the rounds on YouTube.
The organizers of the upcoming Summer Breeze 2012 festival have issued the following update about confirming new acts:
"Italy is not exactly a hotbed for dark doom metal. Fortunately enough, there are always exceptions to confirm the rule. With the three albums they have released so far, The Foreshadowing have provided a master class in gloom and doom. Hailing from Rome, the band prove that it is indeed possible to write great atmospheric songs without falling into excessive pathos and kitsch. Especially singer Marco Benevento's clear, ear-piercing vocals take the group's material to a level which is only populated by bands such as Katatonia, My Dying Bride, early Anathema and even Opeth. Don't miss this black pearl of darkness! You will hardly experience anything bigger, darker and more epic at Summer Breeze 2012!
"Breakdowns aren't exactly the most innovative element in metal nowadays... However, if you use them with such conviction and vehemence as Bleed From Within, even the most athletically challenged of metalheads should soon mutate into pit fighter number one. The UK band have two albums out which should appeal to fans of As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon and Parkway Drive, while at times Bleed From Within are even more melodic than the aforementioned bands, only to dive into a brutal breakdown the very next second. All fans of metalcore and deathcore should highlight this band in their personal running order, as this is the perfect stuff for all of them!"
London's When Our Time Comes has released a new official music video for the song "We're Here For a Reason," which can be viewed below. The band commented:

Also, we are currently in the semi-finals of planetrox to win the chance to play Envol Et-Macadam festival in Quebec and would really appreciate your vote by creating a log-in on the site and vote for the video. Peace."
Finally released this year, "Severing Humanity" is the debut from Californian brutal death metal band Deadly Remains. The album is available on Deep Send/Sevared Records. Deadly Remains has a show scheduled for Saturday, July 21st with Sumerian Records recording artist Conducting From the Grave, who are making a one-off stop on the heels of the Summer Slaughter Tour. They will be performing at the Arlene Francis Center in Santa Rosa along with Osasuna, To Play At Arms and Ashkira. The band commented on its history and sound:
"We are SWARM! We used to be the guitar players for California's Jet Black Horror (myspace.com/jetblackhorror) from 2005 - 2011, which gave us the opportunity to experience years of touring, recording and networking with a lot of awesome people — though years of lineup changes with drummers going on to more successful endeavors (Oh, Sleeper and Vital Remains) put us on hiatus for a little over a year.
"With everything we've learned through the years of JBH, and with the addition of drummer Jordan Denning, we have created SWARM. We strive to play and write music and we will stop at absolutely nothing until we are out touring again. Spread the word, follow us and watch us grow."
This September, California avant-garde metal band Stolen Babies will be touring the United States with co-headliners Devin Townsend Project and Katatonia, and special guests Paradise Lost as part of the “Epic Kings & Idols Tour” (DTP and Katatonia will alternate in headlining each show). “We're very excited about being on this tour with such a great line-up,” states Stolen Babies drummer Gil Sharone. “It's the perfect way to start the touring cycle for our new album that will be released later this year with No Comment Records.”

Animals As Leaders was forced to miss their show in Toronto the other day when guitarist Javier Reyes had to return to Boston for a court date after being arrested. Eye witnesses say that he was assaulted by a police officer for filming an arrest they were making before being arrested and charged with assaulting an officer himself. Here's the update from Javier:
Javier Reyes here. I would like to personally apologize for canceling the Toronto show last night. I can explain. After the Boston show on May 26th, I was unlawfully arrested by the Boston Police Department. I had to return to Boston on May 30th for court. As much as we had looked forward to playing Toronto again, there was nothing I could do other than cancel the show and return to Boston to avoid having an arrest warrant filed against me.
I have included a complaint letter a friend/witness has written and sent to the Boston Police. It explains in more detail about the appalling and absurd encounter that occurred that evening. Again, to all our fans in Toronto, I am truly sorry for cancelling the show.
MetalSucks claims that arresting officer Rance Cooley has a history of using excessive force, abusing his power as an officer of the law, and lying to get convictions.
